HP DV7 Pavilion won't boot

Hello,
My laptop is HP Pavilion dv7 4177sf . I am not able to run it.
Whenever i press power, it works for a moment(fan+leds , without display) for like 3 seconds, then it restarts itself.
Then, it just goes like that (working fan, capslocks led is blinking - there is like 3s pause and one 2s blink , and it goes on and on). There's nothing on display.
I've tried to do HARD RESET and all those things - nothing works. I've plugged external monitor - nothing.
I removed RAM/HARD DISK, tried diffrent slots -> nothing.
As I pressume, it's something wrong with the BIOS. Last time I've been trying to update it with new UEFI one and when I was restarting , the laptop just power off.
What can I do ?..

Hi,
If the battery of the HP laptop is not in a good condition, sometimes booting problems might happen. To remove any static charges accumulated in the battery, you would have to remove the battery and press the Power button for about 25-35 seconds. Then reset the battery. Even after this, if your laptop is not booting up then you could perform the battery calibration and press F8 key to boot in safe mode.

  • HP dv7 1150us won't boot after bios update

I have a HP dv7 1150us that I was given to replace my other HP that died.  I put my hard drive from my other Laptop in this one, it ran good.  I was updating the drivers for the new PC, there was a Bios update, I did it.  When my laptop rebooted it would not go past POST and the caps lock & number lock are flashing 4 times, pause, and repeat.  Other then buy a new motherboard is there anything else I can do?

Please try the BIOS Recovery method
see if this does the trick,

  • HP Pavilion p7-1414 Won't Boot from CD

    Hello,
I recently bought an HP Pavilion p7 1414 desktop computer, I'm trying to boot from a CD to reinstall Windows 8 - I've set the CD to boot first in BIOS, but when I restart the computer and have the CD in, 'press any key to boot from cd' isn't showing.  It just boots straight to the computer's HDD into Windows to log in.
I have Windows 8 64 bit. 6 GB of RAM and a terabyte of HDD space.  I'm just looking to reinstall Windows 8 for a fresh start.  Any ideas why it won't boot from the CD?
    Greatly appreciate it!

    Hi..
Try to save the settings in BIOS before you exit it.
Force boot the pc to the dvd drive.
Keep the disc in and restart the pc.
Also check the functionalty of the dvd drive >> check if other disc are working on the drive.
Check if the discs work on any other  pc.

I have a HP Pavilion DV5 1251nr that won't boot up. The light at the power connector comes on nothing happen

First thing to try is a hard reset. Remove the battery and power supply. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Wait another 30 seconds. Now plug in the power supply. Then try to start the computer. Let us know if that works. If not, we need to start thinking about hardware issues.

  • Pavilion G2-b27SA Laptop Won't Boot - Fan Whirs and Hard Disk Light Comes On but Nothing Else

    Hi
My Pavilion G2-b27SA laptop won't boot. The fan whirs, the hard disk and wirless lights come on but nothing happens on-screen and the fan goes quiet after a couple of seconds (to a low whir).
I've gone through and tried the solutions in this thread - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-e-g-Windows-8/Laptop-will-not-turn-on/td-p/102825 - with no luck. Specifically, I've tried a hard reset and hitting F10 when the laptop tries to boot. Neither has had any effect.
Is there anything else I can try to get the computer working again? If I take it to a laptop repair shop (I'm out of warranty) will they be able to do anything, or is it effectively dead now?
Thanks in advance for your help.

The laptop can always be fixed if you have a bottomless wallet. On a no-start with flashing lights it is likely the motherboard and a motherboard replacement if you have the shop buy the board and bill you for labor will be about $300 give or take 25%. Before we give up, it could be bad memory or a few other less expensive things. Assuming they do not charge too much just to diagnose it; take it to the shop.

  • HP Pavilion G4 won't boot

My HP Pavilion G4 won't boot. It starts up, goes to the HP logo screen then blacks out and the process is repeated endlessly. When I press the ESC butto. To access the device info, boot options, etc., it does not shutdown or turns off/on abruptly.
When I first opened it, it says something about a thermal error (overheated maybe) but that was already hours before my sister last used it. She says everything was fine and she was able to shut it down properly. I don't know if it's important but we're using it without a battery for 1-2 years now.
What could be the problem here? I hope it's just a software issue and not a hardware one. Praying that there's a fix where I won't lose a single file.

    Hi @VIPN
Welcome to the HP Support Community! I see that you are having a problem getting your notebook to boot to Windows. I will be happy to help. When it goes to the black screen do you get a flashing cursor at all on the screen?
Try booting up in Safe Mode to see if that works. If you got the thermal error I would suggest trying the HP document Reducing Heat Inside the PC to Prevent Overheating, it will have you cleaning the fan using compressed air.
Does the Caps or Num Lock keys blink at all? If so how many times?

  • Pavilion p6-2185ef - PC won't boot when upgrading graphic card

    Hello,
I recently tried to upgrade my graphic card to a 760GTX (I also upgraded the power supply)
When I try to boot my computer with the new graphic card (all powered up including those pci express slots), everything is going OK, until the boot get stuck to the screen where I can press escape to access the bios.
And from there, I can't do anything. The PC won't boot any further, and I can't even access the BIOS when pressing escape (which usually works).
Since I don't reach the OS booting part, I don't think this comes from windows.
I tried to disable the PCI security in the BIOS, but then it seems that the displays is switch to the motherboard (even when I use the former graphic card (which still works fine)
I tried to upgrade the BIOS, it changed nothing.
I'm welcome to any suggestions on how to solve this issue.

    Hi,
The NVIDIA GTX 760 will not work in a PC with a version 7 BIOS.
Open up the Run window and enter: MSINFO32
Verify your BIOS level.  It should be a version 7 BIOS.
There are some specific MSI NVIDIA GTX models that should work.

  • Computer Won't Boot Up

Here is my issue, my computer one day was working fine and the next it won't boot properly.
    System Specs: Satellite T235D-S1345RD (Laptop) - Windows 7 (64bit) - BIOS 1.7 - 4gb RAM -
I have gotten the computer booted one time. I am unsure why it did that time but did not do it another time.
Since that one time I put the computer in hibernate and when I tried to bring it out it told me it failed when coming out of hibernate so it went to reboot and now won't boot.
Here are the few steps I have done to try and get it working.  When it boots up it gives me an error message (says that power failed or for some reason it did not boot)
I have ran "Repair Computer" and it does not do anything.  I try start windows normally and it goes no where.
So I then tried F8 and got into the Advanced Boot Menu. First one I tried was Start Windows From Last Known Good Configuration. (or something like that I forget the exact wording)
When it does that the computer will start to boot up go to the "Windows Loading" screen and then it flashes a blue screen (there are words there but it flashes so quickly I cannot read it) and it goes back to the boot screen and acts like it is restarting and continues in that loop.
Next step - Enter F8 again tried "Repair Computer" and it loads to a black screen with a Cursor but nothing ever happens. I have given it over 30 min and nothing happens.
So next step- I enter F8 again and try to boot up in safe mode and again when it loads it flashes a blue screen and then nothing.
EDIT - I found how to show the blue screen. It says UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. Not sure what else I should do after I get that error message. Message Reads:
It reads UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME and says if it's the first time I've seen the error screen, to restart the computer. Then it tells me if it appears again, to check and make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
"If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode."
    END EDIT
Next Step: I come to you guys here on this forum. I am a bit perplexed and lost at what to do. I wonder if this is a virus but I cannot get the computer to respond to try to get  into it to check.
Ideas? Advice? What should I try? I can get into the F8 menu but not sure what else I should try. I will try anything to get this computer up and running!
Thanks for any and all help.

    Hi:
The 24 character failure ID usually indicates HDD is failing/has failed. You need to replace it with a new one.
    Specs: http://support.hp.com/in-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5191856/model/5...
    Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03099531
    Check warranty: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/weInput?cc=us&lc=en
    Order recovery USB: http://support.hp.com/in-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-6c13cl-Entertainment-Notebook-PC/5191856/model/5...
    Contact HP: https://support.hp.com/in-en/contact-hp/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-6c00-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-serie...
If you're under warranty, HP would send you replacement HDD.
If you're not, buy any branded 2.5" SATA 9.5mm thick internal laptop HDD and replace it yourself. But HDD of at least same capacity HDD as the one that came with your laptop (640gb) so that recovery media would work -
Go through page 56-58 in the Manual for replacement procedure. It's quite simple DIY job.
    Something like this:
    http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16822236561
If you've not yet created the Recovery media to restore the factory settings after replacement, you have to order a set of Recovery USB from HP.
For salvaging the data from old HDD, I suggest you take out the drive. Connect it to another PC using SATA to USB adapter - copy all the files you need.

  • Fuzzy Display - PC Won't Boot

    Hi there,
I have a friend who was using her PC (a Pavilion a1000 running XP3) when it suddenly gave the BSoD. She hard re-booted, now it gives a fuzzy display and won't boot past the HP logo screen. I can't get into the BIOS setup, or safe mode. It won't get beyond the logo. There are no error codes or beeps. Just freezes at the logo with the fuzzy display.
Before I do anything else, does this sound like something obvious to anyone? Any input is appreciated. And if more information is needed, just let me know and I'll gladly supply. Thank you in advance.

    GTifeld, welcome to the forum.
Without the full model number I can't be specific.  However, from the models in that series it appears that the computer is 8 years old.
My first thought when I see these symptoms with older computers is a failing/failed power supply unit (PSU).  Here is a guide to help you troubleshoot the PSU.
If it appears to be okay, then, check to assure that the memory is seated properly.  Over time the memory can shift.  Also, it could have failed, as well.  While you are at it, check all of the other components and clean inside of the case.

When I power it ON, it beeps 5 short ones and there is a pause for a sec or two and then beeps 5 times pauses again for a sec or two and then beeps 5 times and then there is no more beeps.
However the power button light continues to flash with a amber color.
I have reseated 4 memory modules, video card as well.
Any thoughts what could be wrong?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Remove all memory modules. Try only 1 module in the slot next/closest to the CPU.  Try each module in that slot.

  • My Pavillion dv9700 notebook won't boot unless I first...

My Pavillion notebook won't boot unless I first boot to a cd. Here's the problem:
I have a dv9700 notebook. It wouldn't power up. A local shop said I needed a new motherboard. I ordered one and installed it. Now when I try to boot it gets to the part where the hard drive starts to spin and suddenly shuts down only to power up again and endlessly continue this loop. I have found that if I first boot to a bootable cd and then at the cd menu choose "Start Windows" instead of "Boot to cd" the computer will start Widows Vista and run normally.
I have reseated the RAM and tried only one card at a time and switched slots. The BIOS is up to date. I have booted on ac adapter only. Battery only. Tried another ac adapter.
The BIOS hard drive diagnostic fails, showing no hard drive installed. I have tried the hard drive in a USB enclosure. It read fine. I have tried another hard drive in this computer, still reboots over and over.
I can't figure out why I need to boot to a CD first then switch to Windows Vista on the hard drive.
    Any ideas? Thanks
