HP Elite L2201X HDMI to Displayport

Hi,Operating Systen - Windows 7 64bitI have a Lenovo Y460p laptop. It has a HDMI out on the video card. I also have an HP Elite L2201x with a DisplayPort in. I bought a Startech.com HDMI2DP which is supposed to actively convert the HDMI to DisplayPort. When I plug up both to the converter, the monitor just blinks orange. The monitor has been installed using the CD. The converter has been hooked up correctly. I don't know what the problem is. Can anothing help?

gsuren, Here are the specs for your HP Elite L2201x 21.5-inch LED Backlit LCD Monitor. According to the specs, your HP L2201x monitor has a single DisplayPort input and no other video connections. You must connect the monitor to a computer with native DisplayPort output or use an "ACTIVE HDMI-to-DisplayPort CONVERTER".  From "HP ZR24W and Displayport"11-05-2012 06:53 PM - edited 11-06-2012 07:46 AM  @ off1c3r, mikasa, bcody79, and others with the same DVI-D or HDMI to DisplayPort issue. The problem isn't with the monitor... it is with the way you are trying to connect your computer to the monitor. The monitor has a DVI-D input and a DisplayPort input. If your computer doesn't have native DisplayPort output, you can't use the monitor's DisplayPort input without an expensive active converter.  But you say you purchased a DVI-D or HDMI to DisplayPort adapter cable??? Wrong, unless it is an active converter there is no way to go from DVI-D or HDMI at your computer to a DisplayPort monitor. The cables you have purchased are designed to go from a computer's DisplayPort output to a monitor's DVI-D or HDMI input. This is facilitated by the graphics adapter sensing an active DVI-D or HDMI connection (via adapter cable) on the DisplayPort output and switching the signaling to DVI-D or HDMI. Please read DisplayPort.org/FAQs for more information on the subject. You can also check out wiki/DisplayPort for more information as well. From DisplayPort.org; Q: I just purchased a monitor that only has a DisplayPort connection. How can I hook this up to my computer that only has VGA, DVI or HDMI?A: There is not a cost effective way to do this. The adaptors that are available only work from a DP computer to a VGA, DVI or HDMI monitor and not the other way around. If you have a desktop you can purchase a graphics card with DisplayPort. Our best advice: Before you purchase a DP only monitor make sure you have DP on your computer.

  • HP ELite L2201x and Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop?

Hi, I bought an HP Elite L2201x Monitor, and I want to connect it to my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop.
I got a display port to HDMI port cable but my laptop doesn't recognize at all the HP monitor, it is like if it were not there!
Any advice? I thought about using the port I use to conect to a proyector, but idk if that makes sense at all!
    Thanks for your help!!!

    >I got a display port to HDMI port cable but my laptop doesn't recognize at all the HP monitor, it is like if it were not there!
display port and HDMI are two completely different solutions.
Also a display port source can deliver hdmi signals (so this way the cable will work), a hdmi source often (always?) can't support dp signals.
This is how I understand this FAQ:
    From http://www.displayport.org/faq/;
Q: I am the owner of a new 27″ iMac, which I was planning to use as a high- resolution display for an HDMI equipped Blu-Ray player. I have purchased the DP-to-HDMI adaptor after being advised by Apple technical that it would function as an input, but having tried it, discovered that the device will only OUTPUT. My question is, why won’t the adaptor pass signal the other way, and what is the adaptor doing if it’s not powered, and it’s tiny, that it can’t do backwards?
A: DisplayPort-to-HDMI adaptors and DisplayPort-to-DVI adapters are very simple and only operate one way. For instance, when a DP-to-HDMI adaptor is connected to a PC that supports DP++ (multimode) capability, the PC senses the presence of the adaptor and sends HDMI signals over the DisplayPort connector rather than DisplayPort signals. No signal conversion is performed by the HDM adaptor. HDMI signals are merely passed through. The unique DisplayPort adaptor capability enables the PC to connect to a variety of displays via the DisplayPort connector including HDMI, DVI, and VGA. VGA adaptors are more complex and perform active signal conversion from DisplayPort to VGA. These adaptors also operate only one way. Unfortunately, HDMI does not support conversion to other display formats as does DisplayPort.

Again, that cable won't work... this time it is a Thunderbolt Port Mini Display Port DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Cable

  • HP LP2275w Monitor HDMI to DisplayPort possible?

    Hello forum,
In the proccess of connecting my monitor HP LP2275w to computer HP Pavillion. The computer has HDMI and VGA output, the monitor has DVI and DisplayPort inputs. Recently bought a HDMI to DisplayPort adapter, in order to use the HDMI-cord, but it does not work. My computer does not "find"the monitor what so ever.
Why does the adapter not work? Do I need som sort of drive-updates?
Hopefully the forum has all the answers.

    Hi,
In theory they are BOTH using digital signals therefore just straight one to one BUT practicality, this is a hit and miss business in many cases. Back to your connection: have you tried to use F4 key which tells the machine to send signals to the monitor ?
    Regards.

  • DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort

    Hello,
I'm a Windows user but getting a rMBP 15". I was wondering which would be the best way to hookup an external monitor to the MacBook?
I have a high-end 27" monitor with 2560x1440 resolution (LG 27EA83)  that has dual-link DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort connectors. Since I can get a Thunderbolt DVI connector for the rMBP, but the laptop also has HDMI and DisplayPort connectors as well, which one of these would suited the best to connect the monitor to the rMBP?
Since I have no speakers, at this point I'm only focusing on display quality and don't care for audio.
    Thanks.
PS: In case if I were also concerned about audio, would you recommend HDMI or DisplayPort?

Conveniently, I did order a DVD-D cable by sheer luck. I just picked the first one that had male connectors at both ends.
Now that I've got that in place, I seem to only be able to get a max resolution of 19290 x 1080 according to the options I see in the Display control panel. I've got the DVI-D cable out from the monitor and into a DVI to mini-display port adapter that connects to a Thunderbolt port on the rMPB.
I think the display is now a little sharper than when I was using the HDMI connector, but that could just be my imagination.
Time to start Googling this to see if I can sort out higher resolutions.
I had no idea there was so much variation in cable type when it came to this stuff.
    Thanks for your help!
UPDATED: I finally did what should have in the first place and looked up the specs on the monitor I purchased. 1920 x 1080 is the highest resolution the monitor offers. I can live with that. It's still nearly 2x as large as my rMPB's 15" screen. [http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27EA33V-led-monitor]

  • Hp elite l2201x wont work with active converter

    i bought the
StarTech.com HDMI2DP HDMI or DVI to DisplayPort Active Converter
    these are the specs :
The HDMI2DP DVI or HDMI to DisplayPort Converter converts an HDMI, DVI or Mini DVI input signal into a DisplayPort (or Mini DisplayPort) output, eliminating the cost of upgrading your source device hardware or purchasing a new display. With support for full HD resolutions up to 1920x1200, the HDMI2DP converter is the perfect solution for connecting devices that have an HDMI, DVI single-link or mini DVI output, such as video cards (desktop or laptop), video game consoles or home theater receivers, to your DisplayPort-capable display
THIS SHOULD WORK FOR THIS MONITOR RIGHT? BECUASE ITS NOT!

    Hi,
Just return it (the adapter) and get your money back.
    Regards.

  • Yoga micro-HDMI to Displayport options

I'd like to get video from a Yoga with micro-HDMI output (female) to a monitor with (normal) DisplayPort input (female).
I've looked around and there don't seem to be many good solutions for this. Aparently HDMI to DisplayPort is not possible without an active adapter? The best I've been able to come to is:
    1) Monoprice high speed micro HDMI (male) to HDMI (female)
    then
    2) Cable Matters HDMI (male) to DisplayPort Converter (female) - this plugs in USB for power
    then
    3) DisplayPort cable (male to male)
Are there any better solutions for this? That's $55+ just to get to DisplayPort. I also think the Cable matters converter will likely send at max 1080p signal.
    Thank you for your input(s).

What model of monitor is it, if it is a DP++ input it should be able to use a passive adapter but will be limited to I believe up to 1920x1200.
    I own a Y510p SLI, and Yoga 2 Pro

  • Cinema 30" PC Monitor can use w/HDMI or DisplayPort?

    Hello,
I have a  5 years old 30" Cinema Display I use as PC monitor. I want to upgrade my motherboard, and the ones I am interested in do not have DVI ports anymore, only HDMI and DisplayPort. Is it possible to adapt my display DVI cable to either of these ports and still retain 2560x1600 resolution? What do I need to do?
    thanks

  • HP Elite L2201X

Is there something I can do to connect a P 100b all in one pc series to a HP ELite L2201X? I bought this thinking it would be a simple thing to do but when I saw the cable I was stuck can anyone help me? Is it possible? what do I need?

    Hi,
As you can see on the above link, it ONLY has:
    I/O ports
    6 USB 2.0
    1 microphone/headphone jack
    1 RJ-45
    1 line out
In short, if you need to connect to an external monitor, you need to use USB port, something like the following adapter:
       http://www.amazon.com/electronics/dp/B002FJQXXC
Unfortunaterly the monitor ONLY has display port (DP) for input and the PC only has USB 2.0 ports therefore you won't get waht you are trying to do without spending more money. With USB 3.0 ports, you can use USB-DP adapter:

  • HP Elite L2201x LED monitor Grey shadows on both bottom edges

I purchased this monitor HP Elite L2201x without knowing about the display port issue.  Luckily (not really) I only had to purchase the cable as the computer I bought already was equiped with the proper stuff.  About a year after using the monitor it started to get grey shadows on both sides.  I returned it under warrentee and they sent me a "new" one.  Now after the warrentee is done (2 years) and I have had the replacement monitor for about 7 months the same thing is happening to it with the shadows on both sides of the screen.  I called HP ( I purchased it directly from HP.com) they tried to tell me that they cannont find the seriel number in their system.  Duh!!! I purchased it directly from them, and had it warrenteed directly from them yet they can't find it in their system??  Then the guy from HP tech tells me to return it to the store I purchased it from.  After telling him I purchased it directly from HP.com he put me on hold and then came back on the line, took my name, email and gave me a case number and said he would email me where to send the information for warrentee, well he never emailed me, I think it is a big run around for the piece of crap they made, they won't stand behind their product.  Now I am stuck with a monitor (that was not cheap!) that is pretty much garbage.  I have purchased HP computers and monitors for the past 20 odd years for my business and never had such a crappy item.  Usually I get 5-7 years out of them with hard use, computers, laptops and monitors, usually the tech evolves and makes them obsolete before they don't work, not with this monitor!!

  • Dual screen with HDMI and DisplayPort

    Hi all,
I have one question regarding my MSI GTX960.
Today I just received a DisplayPort>HDMI cable to connect my TV with HDMI.
So here is my configuration :
    - GPU HDMI => Primary Screen HDMI
    - GPU DisplayPort => TV HDMI
    Here is my problem :
    - When I boot the computer, the GPU DisplayPort takes priority over the GPU HDMI output which my primary screen is plugged in.
    - Unless I unplug the HDMI cable from my TV (plugged to the DisplayPort of the GPU), it won't boot on the GPU HDMI output.
I tried all DisplayPorts to see if there was some priority but with no chance.
So I'm really disappointed as even if my TV is shut down, the computer will not boot on the GPU HDMI output and I can't access my BIOS from it (unless I unplug the DisplayPort cable before booting).
Is there a way to set default port or fix this annoying issue ?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your quick replies guys :D !

nope, this can't be changed its how its works
That's what I was thinking about and in fact I think it's more related to my TV as when I connect it while shut down I hear the connexion sound. It seems it is more in standby than totally shut and the GPU may have a signal from it.
Quote from: RemusM on 16-June-15, 00:43:16
The ports priority order is defined in VBIOS.
As Svet already mentioned, it cannot be changed.
Maybe having another DisplayPort for my primary screen would fix the problem ? What do you think about it ?

  • Differences between adapters? (MiniDVI- VGA/HDMI and DisplayPort- VGA/HDMI)

    Hello everyone
I'm going to buy a new Late 2009 Mac mini, wich for the time being will be connected to my old 17 inches Samsung LCD using VGA (I know, it's not the best solution but I can't afford buying a new monitor now) and occasionally to my Samsung FullHD LCD TV. So here are my two questions
    1) What's the difference between using a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and a Mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
    2) What's the difference between using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and a Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter? Are both HDCP compliant?
I know these may be stupid questions, but I'm a ex Windows user and the "Macverse" is new to me Thanks

One important difference between the VGA versions of the adapter is that DisplayPort does not output analog video. As such, the adapter is expensive because it has a D to A (digital to analog) converter built inside of it. It may be more prone to trouble, but it is also able to be firmware upgraded, which has already happened one time. Anyway, I would tend to choose the DVI version of the VGA adapter if for no other reason than it being cheaper.
The difference between the DVI/HDMI adapters is not so big I think, so it wouldn't matter which was used to drive an HDMI display. Either port on the back of the mini will support HDCP, and that is important with HDMI.

  • HDMI from DisplayPort

I have a MacBook I bought late 2010, how do I know what mini DisplayPort revision it is (1.1 or 1.2)? Also, how do I know if it supports audio out when using an HDMI adaptor?
Can anyone recommend any good mini DisplayPort to HDMI adaptors? I would love to get one that supports HDMI 1.4 but can't find one.
Also, if using the right cables, can I even succeed in outputting things like 5.1 chanel surround sound or 3D or full HD (or higher) video, or can the DisplayPort hardware not do that?
    Thanks.

That particular cable might not conform to the VESA v1.1a DisplayPort Interoperability Guidelines. There's some information about that sort of audio issue in the following document:

  • Samsung Monitor not receiving signal through HDMI Mini DisplayPort

I have been having issues using my Macbook Pro on an external monitor lately.
Up until a couple of days ago I was using my monitor as the primary display for my laptop and using the Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad, so my laptop has been closed. I tried to 'wake up' my mac as I usually would do but nothing happened, the monitors power light kept flashing, which is what is does when it isn't receiving a signal, so as anyone else would I investigated and found that my macbook was working the way that it normally would except it doesn't detect the external monitor at all.
I have tried changing the cable, changing the monitor from my 23" samsung display to my 42" sony tv, Restarted my mac more times that I could count and have also updated to the latest software that I possibly could.
I am going to buy a new Mini DisplayPort adapter tomorrow but I would rather just fix it with what I have if I can.
Thank you for any help that can be provided.

Check the cable  does not have an air gap at either end.
    Sorry ... no other ideas.
