HP EliteBook 2760P TouchPad Replacement

If I had to guess, it looks as if you need to remove the keyboard, take out a few screws underneath that, and then a few from the back of the chassis. Here's the underside. Match it to the screw placement on the back chassis and see what screws need to be removed. You may need to use a small flat head screwdriver to separate it from the motherboard and the backing.

I have an HP EliteBook 2760P laptop that the left touchpad button does not work anymore.  The right touchpad button does work, so I don't think it is a driver or setting issue.  I cannot find any documentation on a part number for the touchpad or how to remove it.  I found youtube videos for other HP models where it looks like the touchpad is built into the palmrest and you have to replace the whole palmrest.

  • How do I create a recovery partition on an HP EliteBook 2760p using Windows 7 64-bit Professional

    I have an HP EliteBook 2760p using Windows 7 - 64-bit Professional
My original problem is that I couldn't create the Repair Disc
I found out that the problem was with a file that was on the recovery partition
I backed up the recovery partition from the same make and model computer
I reformatted the partition and recovered the backup to the reformatted partition
    It didn't work
How do I create the recovery partition  I have the 2 disks that came with the tablet PC

If you do a factory restore using HP recovery discs it will put everything back including recovery partition. I don't know if any way to manually re-create the recovery partition.
NOTE: back up your files as Factory Restore wipes ALL data.

  • Elitebook 2760p Ericsson hs2340 WWAN device recognition problem in Windows 8

    Hi,
I installed an ericsson hs2340 WWAN card in my Elitebook 2760P and it worked great, even in Windows 8.  Recently, I was managing my HP updates and flashed the bios update.  When the update was done my WWAN card was gone... well, mostly gone.  I can find it in device manager under "USB controllers" but it's in conflict (!).  There is apparently a problem with the device name (?) as I receive this message when I try to update the driver: "HP hs2340 HSPA+ Mobile Broadband Module USB Device" "The name is already in use as a service name or service display name"
I've tried uninstalling the device and re-installing the drivers, checked the bios settings, and fixed the problem with "Telephony" services post-update (Control panel->Administrator tools->Services->Telephony->turn on WWAN, set to "automatic"). I'd rather not have to reinstall the OS if I can avoid it, and I'm not even sure it would be helpful.  Anybody with experience or advice?  Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much.

    Hi:
If you have the HP Power Assistant software installed, see if removing that resolves the problem.
If it does, and you want to have the software, go to your notebook's support and driver page, click on the power assistant software link, click on the revision history tab and install a very early version of it.
If removing the software does not resolve the issue, you can reinstall the current version of the software.
I wouldn't have any other ideas for you to try other than what I have suggested.

The middle touchpad button on my EliteBook 8530p is not showing up under Mouse in Control Panel so I can't configure it to open links in a new tab when pressed. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

    Hey shifty137,
Try re-installing the touchpad driver: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3782359&...
Then, in the Mouse control panel, go to the Synaptics tab and see if you can configure the buttons there.

  • T60 Touchpad Replaced and not Working

I recently replaced my touchpad (palmrest) and plugged it in. I actually have to disable it in bios in order to use my trackpoint. I have the most recent drivers and utility for Ultra Nav.
When I select to activate my touchpad in the bios settings, I then get a warning triangle, and my trackpoint becomes "hidden" in the device manager and inoperable, I can't use it.
Any ideas on how to ge both working? I feel I am close!!

    Thanks for the reply,
The touchpad does show up in the bios, so I think the system board is whole, but who knows. I just tried to boot up with the trackpoint disabled and the touchpad automatic, and the problem I explained before where the device manager shows the ultranav pointing device with a warnign triangle and hidden. I think the synaptics driver files for the trackpoint are the same for the touchpad.
Is there way to test or check the system board?
Most diagnostic tests will be inconclusive. There are specific ways to test the system board, but it's not something you'd want to do, it would be far less work and cheaper to simply replace it then diagnose it, but getting back to your problem...   you didn't answer my question, so lets start from the beginning....
You replaced the palmrest/touchpad assembly...    Why?
Does the replacement have the same problem as the original?
If I wanted to dianose the problem I'd do it the fastest and cheapest way possible, by pluggin in a known good part and seeing if it works. That sure beats tracing and testing microscopic circuits for hours, something that lenovo repair centers don't even do, they simply replace parts. Used T60 parts are cheap, so whatever you may need shouldn't be a problem to get.
Regarding your drivers...   windows generic drivers will work, and I've never seen the problems you describe, but if you've installed improper drivers, it could have caused such a problem, but again, I really don't know what you did, or even what started all this and what problem you were trying to fix, but if you want to see if this problem is hardware or software, you can try booting from a Linux LiveCD, boot up with option to make no changes to your system and see if both trackpoint and touchpad work using Linux, if they do, then you have a driver problem, in which case I'd uninstall all mouse devices and reboot. Windows "should" enable generic mouse driver so you can use the system, then it would only be a matter of installing the proper drivers, , but do this AFTER you've determined it's software, not as a test, or you'd be likely to just complicate things even more.
You can get a Linux LiveCD at Ubuntu.com.

  • The T510 T520 and so on touchpad replacement

I'd like to exchange the touchpad (not the whole palmrest) in Lenovo T520. How to make it not so that all work and look corectly?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can buy something like this: click me! (I don't have any affilliation with the seller!! Buy at your own risk)
Then you'll need to remove the palmrest turn it up and  undo few screws, replace the parts. Then put the new palmrest back. I did it with a couple of T510/W510, it was fairly easy. Unfortunately it is not documented in the HMM.
Eventually you may find a complete palmrest for less money though... Keep your eyes open

  • T400s touchpad replacement part-number

Hi, the touchpad on my t400s (2801-cto) does not work any more.  Does anybody knows the part number for the touchpad ?
I have looked under my palmrest and the touchpad is glued.  The fingerprint reader is still working fine.
I have seen on eBay new palmrest with no touchpad nor fingerprint reader, so I am assuming that there must be a part numer for just the touchpad.
    Thanks.

  • EliteBook 2530p touchpad sending random commands - even when disabled

On my brand new 2530p running 64-bit windows 7 the touchpad is causing issues.  If I touch it, then the cursor flies all over the screen and random commands are sent.  For example, Visual Studio seems to be recognizing an F5 being sent it there as it tries to debug my current project.
On the laptop itself there's a little button that I can touch to disable the touchpad.  That light goes orange and a little window appears temporarily saying the touchpad status is now off.  Touching the pad at this point still does the exact same thing....so even shutting it off isn't making a difference.

Hi - Not sure if you have been told as yet, but the driver supplied by HP is currently incorrect.  We have been rolling out Windows 7 onto these machines, and have discovered the same issue.
You will need to uninstall the existing synaptics driver from control panel > uninstall a Program, and then install the new driver on www.synaptics.com
This appears to fix not only the issue with the skittish touchpad, but also the issue with the touchpad not disabling when pressing the disable button on the touchbar.
    Hope this helps!

  • Many problems elitebook 2760p

    hey
i have some problems that i had since i bought the pc about 4-5 month ago that i decided to turn an eye on , but today something broke the ice
im going to list all the problems if any one of the HP staff can help me out, because i dont want to waste the time of one of the employees with the live chat
1)the touchscreen & digitizer dont work at lets say 40% of the times --->if i go into hybrid or turn off and when i turn it on it doesnt work then it will not work for hours ,  ( now i have Win8 but even in win7 i had the same exact problem)
    2) the headphone slot doesnt really catch the headphones  its waaaaaay too loose , i didnt care that much because i didnt use the headphones but now i use it all the time and its realllly annoying ,can it be fixed or anything
3)the space key was always way too lose and now it looks like its completely loose (the left side can actually slide forth and back) ---> (if you give me a website where i can buy my own key it would be better (im in italy))
    4)  when the backlight of the screen is on level one or two ,the light dosnt stay constant ,it keeps flashing (when higher than level 3 it stays constant)
    5) the cap of the pointstick kept falling off till today it was lost probably in the street (if you can give me a website that delivers the cap to italy it would be best)
just a question: when its in tablet mode the monitor stays wobbly is that normal?
thanks in advance to anyone who helps , i really appreciate it

Phew - well, here to tell you that it IS actually possible to upgrade the memory on the 2760p to 16gb.
However don't even think about doing it withough buying something like e.g. an iPhone toolkit - or at least something that has a plastic device with a thin angled lip, to squeeze the keyboard forward.
(thanks to your pics and hints I was able to locate this kind of tool)
Also, you may find it fiddly to put the pointing stick ribbon back in to the ZIF slot - unless you have fingers the size of a kid's.
This kind of  nightmare really makes you respect the Japanese and Chinese people who supply us with all these items !!! - they must have the patience of a saint).
I still feel that HP should supply the non-marring tool for this kind of thing.
p.s.only casualty was my F11 key which came out complete with its rubber base thing, which I am not trying to put back in.

  • Permanently disable touchpad on EliteBook 2560p

    Hi,
    I own a HP EliteBook 2560p w/ 8gig RAM, Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I don't know the current BIOS version.
On this model I can (de-)activate the touchpad and associated mouse buttons below the touchpad by double tapping a small dot in the upper left corner of the touchpad (http://computershopper.com/var/ezwebin_site/storage/images/media/images/hp-elitebook-2560p-touchpad/...)
Stupidly this is just the same spot where I usually rest my left thumb (just below the left-click of the upper mouse buttons).
When I double click the left mouse button, the trackpad (de-)activates.
What I'd like to know is how do I PERMANENTLY disable the touchpad (w/o opening the casing and disconnecting the cable)?
    Thank you in advance!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

You definitely should be able to disable to touchpad in the settings. Try following these steps to see if you can find the "Disable TouchPad" option in the Settings.
Control Panel > icon view > Mouse > TouchPad Settings >
(repeat) TouchPad Settings (button) > Click-on Tapping >
CHECK "Double Tap to Enable / Disable TouchPad"
CHECK "Switch TouchPad off for one session"
This should disable your touchpad. Let me know if this does not work.
    Thanks,
    Sean
