Can you boot into safe mode? http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
If not, how about Recovery? http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718
If you can, run Disk Utlity and repair the disk. You can try rebooting normally, but I would just reinstall after quitting Disk Utility.

  • NEO4 Plat Sli SIL3231 Raid problem - Can't boot after BIOS Flash!

Hi, I have and Neo4 Platinum SLI. I had "the problem" a while back with the nVida raid where there was a hang on shutdown. I then created a RAID0 using my two Rators on the SIL3132 controller, and have three hitachi drives hooked up to SATA1 - SATA3. Back then, I had trouble getting my SIL3132 array to be the main boot volume. I could boot when no other drives were attached, but as soon as I attached them, I get the boot disk error after post. Somehow I got it to work, but not think this time, I flashed the BIOS and ran into the same problems, as the BIOS got reset.
First, I went in and re-enabled RAID on the sil3132 controller, and change the boot order to have the RAID voluime be the first boot device, and my other drivers be the next on down the line. Upon rebooting, my system hangs after verifying DMI pool at a blanksscreen for 5 - 10 minutes then gives my the "missing HAL.dll error". if I go back into the BIOS and disable SATA1/SATA2 and SATA3/SATA4 my computer boots just fine. I even completley disconnected my three drives an my system boots just fine. I have searched these forums and could not find anything close to my issue and wondered if it is something I am just missing in the setup. I will say that at POST my IDE devices has always read:
    IDE Primary Master [None]
    IDE Secondary Master [None]
IDE Primary Slave (my first DVD/R drive)
IDE Secondary Slave (My second DVD/R drive)
IDE Third Master (a 250gb drive)
IDE Fourth Master (a 250gb drive)
IDE Fifth Master (a 250gb drive)
    IDE Sixth Master [None]
Is this normal? all my hard drives are SATA. the raptors and three SATAII drives.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Since the Nvida raid problem seems to have been fixed (as far as I read) I would like to go back to using the nVidia raid controller. I just need to back up my system first!
    Thanks in advance.

    Jkmet,
I have noted the same problem, with a USB Pen drive.
If I leave it plugged in and shut down, the next time I cold boot it tries to boot for the pen drive.  What I found out the any time you add a drive before booting the BIOS places it at the top of the Hard Drive Priority list making it the boot drive.  Same thing happens when I plug in a new SATA and does not mater where it is connected.  So, what I have to do any time you add a drive with the power off you have to boot to BIOS reset the Hard drive priority list, then save, exit and reboot to boot from you windows drive.
I am sure this is a BIOS Bug, but MSI states that the way it should would work.

  • Elitebook 8560w keyboard failure after BIOS update

    Hi,
I have recently updated to F.22, however, I suffer from major problems: the keyboard and touchpad not longer works as expected. I suffer huge delays between input and reaction of the computer. I have to hold keys for several seconds for actions to take place. However, USB connected devices (mouse/keyboard) works just fine. I am not able to roll back my older BIOS because of notice -failed BIOS signature.
    O/S: Windows 7 32 bit.
Could you, please, help me? It's a shame that first post here is asking for help
    Thanks,
    Jonas

Ok. Update - after BIOS hard reset, the computer turns on again. Anybody has any ideas how to roll back older BIOS (officially it doesn't allow to roll back to older BIOS version than F.20 as per HP
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=be&prodTypeId=32...
"NOTE: After this BIOS update has been installed, previous BIOS versions cannot be installed."
Is it possible to override it somehow? Could there be any other solutions?

  • Z77A-GD65 Cannot boot from Bios A

    Hi,
I was fine for years until about two weeks ago, when PC sometimes didn't boot up (no VGA signal, keyboard dead). I fixed the situation by trying to turn it on/off again few times and then it worked. Few days it was OK, and then it happened again. Fixed by the same way. Today, it happened again and I wasn't able to fix it.
I checked LED error code and it was cycling about 5 codes like 49,55,4F, .. (see the attachment). I tried to check/remove all components with no success. I also tried CMOS clearing (connect pins, battery out), but still nothing.
At the end, I tried to switch to Bios B and PC booted without any problem. I updated Bios B to the latest version and now I am fine. It also looks that problem is fixed.
But what is wrong with Bios A? I want to fix it and use it, but I don't know how. I tried to update the bios with Msi forum hq usb flashing tool (booted from Bios B and then switched to Bios A before flashing), but it is still dead.
Thanks a lot for your help.

I also had some sort of same problem (Bios A not booting, bios B OK)
BUT remember one thing: that bios switch is not really hardware. To really switch between bioses you must unplug power cord, wait for capacitor to discharge and then flip the switch.
So the sollution for you  (that worked for me twice) is: clear CMOS (search forum for detailed method). Switch to BIOS B, Make bootable USB with BIOS version 10.5 (A5) (because this version REALLY works with option to flash the other BIOS). Update (or just downgrade to BIOS 10.5) and then clear CMOS with powercord out and battery out. Boot from bios B and within bios flash BIOS A from BIOS B. You will have same version on both Bioses. After that switch to BIOS A (again after clear CMOS etc...) and now you just can upgrade to which bios version you want using the USB bootable stick.
I now have BIOS A with version 10.11 (AB) and BIOS B with 10.5 (A5) just to restore BIOS A in case of failure.
First time when I did this was because mobo failed to boot and can't save OC profiles. Second time was (probably) because of many OC testing.

  • Help Please - X200 will not boot after Bios Upgrade - keeps asking for power on password

    Hi there,
I am new to this forum and please let me say a big Thank You for your help in advance.
I am using a lenovo thinkpad x200 running windows vista with service pack 1.
The laptop has always been running fine and has never given me any issues. Unfortunately, all this came to an end yesterday when I ran the system assistant which did a round of updates and it prompted me to reflash my bios.
I did what was instructed and closed all open applications and after the laptop restarted, there was a noise from the harddisk (the sound was basically like what happens if the harddisk suddenly loses power). Then, all i got was a black screen, no harddisk acitvity with only the power cable LED and another LED (with the shape of a N tiled at 20 degrees) on.
I searched the forum and did what was suggested in this entry: http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Blank-screen-after-Bios-Upgrade-on-X200/ta-p/29...
This is what I did so far"
I turned off the power, took out the backup battery and waited for about 30 minutes (repeated this step several times, also removing the harddisk) but to no avail.
I removed the RAM and tried booting and there was that characteristic beeping sound.
I replaced the RAM, redid the CMOS clearing, and now there is the Lenovo startup screen. However, there would be an error code 0271 (no date time) and 0251 (something about default configuration). Then, these disappear and all I am left with is the Bios Power On password prompt. Somehow no matter what I type nothing can be input into the field (and I did not create any password as far as I can remember).
I redid the clearing for the power on password by removing the backup battery as suggested at the bottom of this page http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=migr-59377   but it is no use. Each time I restart, even if I press the blue Think Vantage button or F1 or F11, I still get the same 0271 and 0251 error messages and am left with the power on password prompt.
I am really desperate as I really like my lenovo x200 and there is important data on the laptop. I would appreciate any suggestions on how I can solve this. Its amazing how a simple update can turn into such a disaster. Now i know i should never upgrade or update my Bios (or at least proceed with extreme caution).
Anyone can provide some help to get my laptop workin again?
    Thank you very much,
    Mark

  • Won't Boot, Will Boot AFTER MOBO RESET

Sometimes my Power Mac G4 won't boot. After I reset the motherboard with the little button in the corner it usually boots.
    Any ideas?
Also when I startup (this only happens when it's 'dead') my speakers do this 'noise' thing 6 times. Like, pppsh (pause), pppsh (pause), pppsh (pause), pppsh (pause), pppsh (pause), pppsh (pause).

The tests do finish, it'll take a long time, depending on how much RAM you have. For example, on my system, testing about 1300 MB of available memory with 5 passes can take at least 7 - 8 hours. I usually run the diagnostics overnight and check the results in the morning.
I did forget to mention: The user's guide recommends running at least 3 - 5 passes (i.e. it'll run it's testing suite 3 - 5 times) to try and detect defective RAM since a problematic DIMM won't always fault during the first couple passes.
Here's an example log file I have from a failed DIMM:
MacOS X (Darwin) running in multiuser mode

  • Macbook Pro cannot boot after Yosemite install

I just (tried) to upgrade to Yosemite (from latest version of Mavericks) on a brand new Macbook Pro. It installed the OS, I got to type my iCloud information etc - and I saw a glimpse of the desktop, but then:
I got the Black screen of death (the one where you can only reboot with text in different languages).
Then, when rebooting I got Apple logo + plus a progress bar  (see attachment)
And then a stop sign. (see attachment)
I have tried holding down power button and restart manually 5 times - no luck. The mac is stuck, and I cannot boot.
Please help - I need to get back to work.

Had the exact same problem on my Macbook Air.  Apple Support had me boot with Command-R and repaired disk in Disk Utility.  Everything seemed fine so they told me to reinstall, which I did.  After a few hours I went back to the screen and it asked me to type in my password. After that is tries to install some more and then I get the following message:
OS X could not be installed on your computer.
This core storage operation is not allowed on a sparse logical volume group.
Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.
Each time I try to reboot I get the same message.

  • P67A-C45 (B3) impossible to boot after BIOS

    Hi !
I've just assembled my new config and I experience some boot problems:
    MSI P67-C45 (B3)
    Intel I5 2400S
    GSkill 2x4Go Ripjaws
    HIS Radeon 6670
    Seasonic XSeries Fanless 400W
After assembling, I powered it on for the first time, reached the BIOS succesfully then tried to install an OS from CD and it is impossible to boot it. I tried from several CDs ans USB key without success. From the F11 boot menu, I tried to choose the CD/DVD or the key, without success. Each time the power turned off and the PC rebooted. Everything component seems well detected in the BIOS, CPU is listed, SATA components too...
I checked everything without success... There is one thing that I don't know about is the active phase switching leds. In the MB manual, there are 2 situations listed: OOOX and OOOO but I get another situation as soon as the power is on. The first led is goes on instantly and then the third and fourth so I have the configuration OXOO. I searched the MSI site and the Internet but didn't find if this is a sign of troubleshooting.
    Thanks for your help !

On all my mainboards in the 6 series, all the LEDs are lit when in the UEFI/BIOS. This could possibly indicate pin/CPU contact problems in the CPU socket, but not positive of that.
Thx, that's exactly what I was thinking in the first place. One more question, in that case, would it be possible that the BIOS is working just fine with CPU detected ? Because I have no problem in the BIOS, the CPU is well detected, I just can't boot after it... In one hand, BIOS makes me think CPU is OK, in the other hand, the leds make me think something's wrong...

  • Help - No Boot after bios flash - p7N SLI Plat.

OK - I have a new P7NSLI Plat that I updated the bios to A738NMS.120.
I however did this using a floppy ie ran the amifud from the floppy and the bios file was on the floppy (this is how I usually do BIOS updates) .. It was only after this and the fact the computer now does nothing after the reboot I found the bit that says do not update from a floppy.
So basically I have a machine that doesnt do anything - you push the power switch and the fans light up and the leds go on but nothing else - no beeps from the graphics card and no POST.
The only thing I can find is a bit in the read me that says if machine won't boot use BIOS recovery method - but it doesnt say what that is.
    Help

Please provide full system specs.  Read the >>Posting Guide<< first.
Try to boot in barebone configuration:
    - no hard drives
    - no optical drives
    - no peripheral USB Devices
    - no card readers
    - no add-on cards:
    just:
    - CPU
    - video card
    - one stick of memory in first slot
    - power connectors
    - PS/2 keyboard
Unplug the A/C power connectors from your PSU, then remove the CMOS Battery and let the system rest for while (10-15 minutes), then hit the clear CMOS button at the back panel again, put the battery back in and try to boot.

    hi sathish291
    Welcome to the Forums.
    Can you try the following:
    1. Power down the machine, remove the AC adapter and battery.
    2. Hold the power button for 30secs and reconnect the AC adapter only then turn the computer ON.
If the machine still doesn't power up normally and boot into WIndows then it's likely that something went wrong (could be a bad BIOS flash or an internal component might have gone defective during or after the BIOS update). In this case, you may need to contact lenovo on how to go about getting the unit serviced.

  • Cannot boot after recovering a FileVault 2 protected disk

I used Lion's new recovery HD partition to restore a four day old Time Machine backup. However, two days ago I enabled FileVault 2, which is probably the cause of the fact that I cannot boot my mac anymore. As the whole disk is locked, I cannot access the recovery partition either. Disk Utility of Snow Leopard install DVD doesn't support unlocking the partition, it is grayed out and therefore I'm not able to mount it. I honestly don't know yet how I can fix this problem. Can you help me?

Unlocking worked using the DVD, but I could never really make it bootable anymore. Reinstallation of Lion on the existing partition didn't work either. Just FYI, when trying to make the disk the startup disk it give me the following error: 'Building boot caches on boot helper partition failed'. The only solution that worked and was good enough for me was to delete the partition, reinstall lion and restoring time machine data on the new installation afterwards.
