HP EliteBook 8730w sound with no Bass
Hi Guys
My laptop is only 3 weeks old, I have had Windows Vista removed and Windowx XP installed for work purposes.
Originally music on the laptop speakers and headphones was scratchy, so I has the speakers and sound card replaced.
This has removed the scratchy sound, but the music is still flat, with no bass what-so-ever.
Guys in my office has the same HP laptop and theirs work fine.
What am I missing?
Hi Support,
Lack of Bass
Laptop is barely three weeks old. Love it to bits but compared to my previous Lenovo, the lack of bass drives me crazy. I am a programmer and I write code with my earbud glued on.
Speakers vrs Headphones
Noticed that sometimes with the earbuds plugged into the headphone jack sound still came outta the speakers. Going into Control Panel, the ff dialog confirms my suspicions that there is a problem. I have my earbuds plugged in but judging from the active sound meter, to the system, it's the speaker playing and NOT the headphone.
Slight Improvement
Clicking on the Speaker and then on Configure I managed to improve the bass a bit by tweaking the ff:
Conclusion
Sound plays alright but the bass response and dynamic range suffer? Basically for us Bassoholics, it simply aint good enough.
Are there any workarounds anywhere or software out there that might improve the bass response and overall frequency range?

Distorted sound with more bass equalizer preset
Hello,
My Problem is that my iphone has either no bass or too much. If i activate the equaizer preset more bass - it sounds like completely distorted (but not with all songs). If i turn it off the sound is weak and just not "nice". I testet the same tracks wich i downloaded from the music store with the same earphones - sennheiser mx 55 with my macbook and my ipod - it was much much better. So the haedphones are okay - it has to do with the iphone. Can u please help me - and please don´t tell me to not use the equalizer - this is no option because it sounds lame like... If there is no way to solve this problem i will try to return the music ibought and maybe use a different player from the appstore?? Greetings from germany. Simon p.s. i think this is a huge quality issue wich apple isnt able to solve right now.i wish it would be this easy but - i only have downloaded music from the itunes store on my iphone - not much but completely downloaded from the itunes store. I found out that these songs have different "sound" one is clear and the other is very dark with much bass. But if i transfer them to my ipod they are much better and not distorted. What can i do with my iphone to get this probelm solved or what can i do to give the music back?

AC Adapter/ Elitebook 8730W -Can I use 200W safely?
I have an EliteBook 8730w laptop. It comes with an external 120 watt or 150 watt Smart AC adapter.
A friend gave me a replacement 200W AC Adapter which was originally for the 8740w. It fits my 8730w but is it safe to use as its a higher wattage than the original?
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi:
You probably should call HP support and ask them.
I can give you my opinion, which is, it probably would be OK. It is also a smart A/C adapter and should quit charging your battery when it senses it is fully charged.
The wattage shouldn't matter. Your notebook will put less of a strain on the 200 W adapter than it did on the 150W one.
You may even want to touch the adapter to see how warm it gets. It would think it would get less warm than a 150W adapter since there is less demand on the 200W one.

Terrible Sound with the Original Apple iPod shuffle 1st Generation
Just found my very old shuffle and wanted to give it to my 5 yo son to listen to. So I loaded songs on it but unfortunately the music sounds terrible - very tinny, low volume, almost techno with no bass. We are using the latest OS so I'm wondering if that's the problem. Any one have a possible solution? Did a factory restore and this didn't help at all.
Thanks for any advice!Does this happen with any set or earbuds you try with the Shuffle? Was this something that wasn't a problem until recently?
If nothing else, try a hard reset of the iPod to see if that helps clear up the problem.

EliteBook 8730w bluetooth absent in Windows 7
I've got an HP EliteBook 8730w (model no. ) with Wnidows 7 Ultimate build 7100 on it. I have drivers for just about everything, except bluetooth. The bluetooth device does not even show up in Device Manager. I tried downloading what I thought was the bluetooth driver for Vista ("Software Support for HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth Wireless Technology for Microsoft Windows Vista v6.0p" - sp39805), but it eventually tells me that I don't have a bluetooth device connected. Everywhere I look, the specifications say this model does have bluetooth. Any ideas?
Even though I'm running Windows 7 RC (Build 7201) and the EliteBook model I have is 6930p, I had exactly the same problem with bluetooth drivers.
It was really frustrating at first, but after poking around for some time I was able to resolve the issue.
Here is the solution that worked for me:
Enable "Bluetooth Support Servic" in your Services snap-in (type services.msc on the command line).
Download "HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth 2.0 Wireless Technology" from the HP support web site.
Extract files from the driver setup executable (in my case sp39479.exe).
Open the extracted folder, navigate to Win32 or Win64 folder based on your OS.
Find "Inst.exe" file and run it as an administrator.
Restart your machine after the installation.
Open DeviceManager in you Control Panel and click "Scan for hardware changes".
Wait for Windows 7 to detect & install your Bluetooth drivers.
Voila! Your bluetooth is good to go (hopefully).
Next step for me was hooking up my Wii Remote via bluetooth (http://www.simplehelp.net/2009/01/14/how-to-connect-a-wii-remote-to-your-pc/) and downloading GlovePie (http://carl.kenner.googlepages.com/glovepie) to start using the remote as a PC game controller. -
Distorted Subwoofer Sound from Heavy Bass - Gigaworks S700
When I first got this speaker system, the subwoofer worked great. After awhile of some heavy bass from rap music, the subwoofer got this distorted sound. I sent it in for repairs and when they sent it back it worked good for a little while. After some more heavy bass the distorted sound came back again. I call it a "ripple effect" that occurs. It's okay with a little bass, but if I put in some rap music with heavier bass, it gets really annoying with that "rippling" sound. The bass is much weaker than it is supposed to be. I already sent it in once, and I figure sending it in again will just be a waste of time. It would be nice to just get a replacement, even if I have to pay for the sub seperately. Even that wouldn't guarantee it would work, because maybe Creative's subs are just not that good for heavy bass.
My subwoofer has been like this for several months now, but I haven't done anything about it because I figure it will be a waste of time. I figure I just buy another speaker system from somebody else in the future, but today I decided to post this here. Anybody else have a similar issue with the subwoofer? Maybe I could ask Creative for a replacement sub, but I don't know if they'll do that. When I first contacted them about it, I wanted to know if I could just get a replacement (free or at a cost) because I didn't want to wait a few weeks to listen to music, but they ignored that part of my email and sent me an RMA number and stuff anyways.

Message Edited by yeshua_seven on 03-13-2005 06:53 AMIt sounds like you may be damaging your bass speaker. When you first got your speakers, at what volume did you play them at? What you need to do is start them at a lower volume and let the speakers play continuously for a few hours. You might notice the speakers get louder even though you didn't touch the volume control. Turn up the speakers a little bit and have them play for a few more hours. Keep repeating this until your speakers are playing slightly above your normal listening level. This is called "breaking in" the speakers. Whether or not this does anything can be up for debate, but I noticed that my MegaWorks 550 got louder and the subwoofer was pumping out cooler air after this procedure. If you play your speaker at a very high volume when you first get them, you are asking for trouble. Also, leaving speakers playing full blast for a while can damage them.
As for a replacement subwoofer, you'll have to contact Cambridge SoundWorks at www.hifi.com because they're the ones who actually make the GigaWorks and MegaWorks. The subwoofer for the MegaWorks 550 is the BassCube 82 (but without the internal 6ch. amp). I'm not sure about the GigaWorks. -
Trying to get this "One" sound with Logic pro 8
Hi everyone i spent like 2 hours last night trying to get this sound with Logic Pro 8 soft synths trying to find a sound exactly like or close to this sound: http://home.comcast.net/~tommykry/Weezer%20-%20Troublemaker.mp3
The sound can be heard at 00:19 and through out the song, its like a low bass synth kind of sound that drifts down when its hit, like a portamento kind of thing. In live weezer videos the bass player is hitting a pad on a keyboard so i know its a key sound not a bass guitar slide. ive heard this sound in trance and techno songs as well. I have Sonar 8 and pro tools 8 as well and can look there if i have too, also have an Access viress Ti, But im trying to do this all in Logic. Like i said i played around for like more than 2 hours going through most of all the Logic synths, patch after patch trying to find something close i could tweak, so if anyone has more experience with The Soft synths in Logic Pro 8 and can steer me in the right direction i would be greatful.
Thanks
TommyIn live weezer videos the bass player is hitting a pad on a keyboard so i know its a key sound not a bass guitar slide.
He could just be triggering a bass slide sample...
It's some kind of bass sound that bends down, in a similar style to what a bass player might do. Whether it's a real bass or a synth is difficult to say (and probably doesn't matter a great deal), but in any case it's certainly compressed, and grunged up dirty with some amp sim or distortion...
Try that route... -
Help! Sound Blaster Audigy - bass and tre
Hello! I had a Sound Blaster Audigy. There are any problems in the control with the Creative Surround Mixer. It cannot to set the bass and treble. Why and what is problem with it's Thank you!?Problem with the Sound Blaster Audigy - bass and treblehttp://icq299885550.mysinamail.com/Photo/Creative.jpghttp://icq299885550.mysinamail.com/Photo/Creative2.jpg?Message Edited by mrchan2002 on -7-20062:27 AM
What's the model number of your soundcard? Certain series of Sound Blaster doesn't support adjusting bass and treble so you have to use the Graphic Equalizer software instead to adjust it.

Looking for a MP3 Player with good Bass.
Hi,
I have a Nokia N73 Music edition phone. The built in MP3 player gives a decent output, but deep bass sounds are not reproduced properly and the overall sound is not very impressive (not crisp). I tested with two pairs of good Philips and Sony head phones, using a 2.5 mm audio converter (problem is not with the headphones).
Is there a good Symbian MP3 player with a good equalizer or special signal processing features to produce deeper bass sounds? (Like Sony Ericsson MegaBase)Whatever you do to the sound with the processor (or a DSP) will be a compromise if the output stages aren't up to scratch.
The only things you can do are
increase the bass level (causes clipping in loud passages - I'm guessing this is what you tried and didn't like)
compress the bass (bass will be loud enough in quiet passages, but won't be louder in the loud passages - I think this is a bit more processor intensive and complex and doubt there's any software that does it)
or
reduce the treble and midrange (you will have to turn the volume up, but if you can that's the best option as it should be lower in distortion). I would try this last idea and see how that does. -
I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it. Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there. The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple. They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one. From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate. And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one. Try a new one. Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port. -
My iPad does not have sound when on the Internet, including YouTube, but does have sound with iTunes and other apps. How can I correct this?
If you are sure that you have sound in other apps - and if you can still hear keyboard clicks and get notifications, then system sounds are not muted. Try this and see if it works.
Close all apps completely and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
[SOLVED]No Sound with ALSA - Intel Corporation 82801G HD Audio
Hey all,
I've succesfully installed Arch Linux. My past two attempts have met with failure, all because of my own failure to read and follow directions correctly. This time everything is installed correctly. I am running Kdemod3 on my laptop with Arch and everything works great. I LOVE Pacman and the simplicity of Arch's configuration files. It's super fast and all together simple. My only remaining problem is this:
My sound with ALSA is not functioning. I followed the installation instructions at the arch wiki and after unmuting all of my channels I still would not get any sound. My sound module is snd_hda_intel and it is detected, loaded and the whole nine yards (as far as I can tell). My user is a member of the 'audio' user group also. I looked at the troubleshooting tips on the bottom of the Wiki but decided not to try them as they do not seem to pertain to my card (snd_hda_intel) but I will try them if anyone would like me to.
If anyone has any ideas, they'd be greatly appreciated!:D Anything I can provide that you need I will be more than willing to provide.
Thanks for such a great distribution,
Dan
