HP Elitebook 8770w Fingerprint Scanner Driver

The device is listed as working in Device Manager but does not show up to Biometric Devices or the SimplePass software.
Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise
The scanner shows up as VFS491.
Currently installed driver is Validity Sensor v4.4.228.0
Using HP SimplePass Identity Protection v 7.1.5.9
Any ideas?
This question was solved.

Well, not being able to see anything in the Biometrics with Protect Tools makes as much sense to me as anything in Protect Tools can do --  I do not have, nor can use, the Protect Tools software on any of my little consumer systems.  Smiling.
I hope the software continues to work and that it provides the services for which it is intended -- it might be pretty good code from what I can glean from the documentation.  As long as it works, then it is well enough.
Happy Computing to you!
Kind Regards,

Anyone have any idea what to do?

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I grasp that you updated your system to Windows 7 professional. All was working well until an automated Windows update was installed and now the fingerprint reader is not working.
You have tried to reinstalling the original driver but receive an error when trying to uninstall it.
Would you try deleting the driver and not uninstalling it.
There is also a Digital Persona Fingerprint Reader Software(null) ,have you tried deleting/uninstalling and reinstalling it?
If the issue remains, as it was working until the update was installed you can try a restore or removing that particular update.
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7)
To view the installed updates go to the control panel/programs and features/view installed updates.
If you believe the updates caused the issue you can
If the recovery partition is still intact you could try reinstalling the driver from it.  Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7)
    I hope this helps!

  • Fingerprint scanner not working_Can't re-install fingerprint scanner driver on my dv6-1080el

    Hi all!
I'm facing a really annoying issue with the fingerprint scanner on my hp dv6-1080el.
I recently switched to Windows 7 professional 64 bit (3 weeks ago) and installed all the drivers needed (fingerprint scanner included).
After few days in which the systems was perfectly working, following a windows automatic update -I guess- the fingerprint scanner stop working. Then, I tried to re-install the driver (original one downloaded from hp site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-75502-3&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&... but every time I do that, I got this error message:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly
    'policy.8.0.Microsoft.VC80.CRT.type="win32policy",version="8.0.50727.762"publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchiteture="amd64"'.
Please refer to Help and Support for more information.
Obviously, before doing that, I uninstalled the device in the "device manager" and then, once the system is rebooted, windows automatically install (successfully) the driver for the biometric device and according to what written in the device status the device is "working properly".
Actually I cannot even see the fingerprint scanner icon when I log on to the system, so the device is clearly not working.
Can someone tell me how to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance to everybody can help me on this!

  • Need to reinstall Fingerprint Scanner driver

I accidently deleted driver for fingerprint scanner and now I cannot use it.  I have searched to see if there is a biometric device section in listing of HW devices and there is not.  I do have recovery drive if that would help get  it working again.

  • DigitalPersona fingerprint scanner driver

    Greetings,
I recently purchased a DigitalPersona U.are.U 4500 fingerprint scanner and would like to integrate it into labview for various purposes. Using the free SDK that DP provides I was able to quickly create some test code (attached here) but thus far I am unable to get it to work. Specifically I am using their ActiveX external code but I am not necessarily tied into that as they also provide .NET and few others in their SDK for interop.
Can anyone shed some light on what I am doing wrong? I am guessing it has something to do with the event handler.
    Just some background:
    Fingerprint scanner
    SDK download
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
You could do this with LabVIEW with USB Instrument control, using VISA commands. I have a link to an article that describes how to do this but as the article states, you will need to understand the device's communication protocol.

  • Validity Fingerprint Common Driver for Windows 10

Hi,This is a solution. You'll be able to use your fingerprint scanner through Windows Hello without any HP softwares (i didn't even try to use simplepass). I'm running Windows 10.Download and install:http://support.lenovo.com/in/hi/downloads/ds103635 I hope it works also for you

    Thanks for posting this..
The driver is working for me on an EliteBook 8570p, though i did have to foce it a bit...
I upgraded from a  Windows 7 install (not factory image) to Windows 10 and decided to try out the new build-in OS sensor support. On Win7 I didn't use it because it needed the HP tools installed and that was more bloat then i am comfortable with.. of course the problem is getting the drivers.. Windows seems to have installed a driver which  is over 2 years old and doesn't even seem compatible with the OS fingerprint API. I'm not entirely sure whether Win10 is using the same one as Win7, but in any case, driver update didn't find a newer one which was compatible with the OS fingerprint features.
I downloaded and installed the version Lucadebe posted ( Removed link for error in link ). (Note that the installer does seem to dissapear all of a sudden, this is normal i think, it just adds the driver to windows, it won't actually update the device.)
I restarted, but unlike for the other people that wasn't enough in my case. The reason for this was that the posted driver does not actually list the VFS491 as a compatible sensor..
So basically i had 2 options:
       1. use the driver (from lenovo) posted by the thread creator which is certified as Win10 compatible, but doesn't officially support my sensor.
       2. use an older (but still relatively recent; a few months old) driver (from lenovo) which does support my sensor, but isn't certified as Win10 compatible. There are several versions to chose from here, although NONE from HP..
The first driver does list the newer VFS495 sensor (mine is VFS491), so i figured i'd force it and see if it works, rather than use a slightly older driver (also from Lenovo) not listed as Win10 compatible.
I went into device manager and opened the properties for the biometric sensor. On the driver tab i selected 'Update driver' -> 'Browse local dirvers' -> 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.
Next, because the new driver doesn't actually list my sensor as compatible, i had to uncheck 'Show compatible hardware'.
If you are using the HP provided driver it will by default have a driver selected from manufacturere 'Validity Sensors, Inc.'. They were acquired by Synaptics, so the new driver will be available under 'Synaptics FP Sensors'. I actually installed a number of newer drivers, but the one posted above should be listed as 'Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=003d)'. Select it and click next to install..
After installing the newer driver, opening the Sign In options screen suddenly showed an additional header "Windows Hello" with a button to add a fingerprint...
So far, working like a charm.
@PeerOne: I would get the driver from the HP site with the right driver match... IF HP actually bothered providing driver updates. As it is, the only recent drivers for the VFS491 are available through lenovo.  I have the HP Softpaq manager installed.. while the application itself got an update for Win10, the only 'driver' still being updated through it is the BIOS. Everything else is ancient...
I find that especially dissapointing because these are generic drivers provided by Synaptics.. the OEMs simply have to repackage them.. but even that's too much of an effort it would seem.
Also, considering windows 7 can upgrade itself to windows 10 in place, there are going to be a lot of people who will need win10 compatible drivers..
It saddens my that we have to rely on another manufacturer to provide us with drivers for HP products... Lenovo is still providing drivers for laptops that are older than mine, even drivers for newer operating systems..
Will definitely have to consider this when we have to replace our current laptops..

  • The Fingerprint scanner doesn't work on my HP ProBook 6455b

When I got the laptop, it had Windows 7 on it and the hardware was customized so the laptop has  2.8gHz CPU and modified GPU and that's it. It came with the fingerprint scanner, but never worked and I never tried to set it up. Now, I upgarded to Windows 8, and now 8.1 Preview.
    Operating System
     Windows 8.1 Pro Preview 64-bit
    CPU
     AMD K10 55 °C

    Optical Drives
     hp CDDVDW TS-L633R

Now, I installed HP Simplepass, but nothing happens and when I attemp to enter my Windows password, it says "invalid". I checke Device Manager and it says under Biometric Scanner, Validity Scanner, and updated it.
Please help and let me know if you have any suggestions; it would make an even better birthday, especially being 6000miles away from home as a student-ambassador for Germany (Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange)-US State Department/CB

    Hi,
See if you can access the notebook in Safe Mode as follows.
Shut down the notebook. Tap away at f8 as you start the notebook to enter Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter.
If you can access your Admin account in this mode, click the Start Menu, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools and launch System Restore.  Pick a restore point before the SimplePass update and then proceed with the restore process.  When complete, Windows will reboot as normal.  See if your original password/finger scan now works.
    Hope it works..

  • Lenovo B570 Fingerprint scanner not responding/is gone and other issues

    Hi,
I've been having some issues lately with my laptop. It comes with a fingerprint scanner, but as of yesterday is stopped working. Normally I can login by swiping my finger, but now it doesn't even show up. It usually has 3 users slots on the login screen. Mine, my sisters, and another slot for the fingerprint scanner. Now that third one doesn't even show up. My fingerprint scanner isn't reading anything at all, nor is it even showing up in many places. I have no idea what could have caused this. Any help?
    I'm running Windows 7 64bit on my Lenovo B570.
I'm not sure if it's related, but when I went to check my drivers to see if it was a driver issue, I found that a bunch of hardware was not working due to driver issues. They wouldn't let me update, giving me a Code 31 error, saying that the file could not be found. The ones that aren't working are listed below.
    Microsoft 6to4 Adapter
    Microsoft ISATAP Adapter
    Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface
    WAN Miniport (IKEv2)
    WAN Miniport (IP)
    WAN Miniport (IPv6)
    WAN Miniport (L2TP)
    WAN Miniport (Network Monitor)
    WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
    WAN Miniport (PPTP)
    WAN Miniport (SSTP)
If anyone could help me fix this, I would be eternally grateful.

  • T430 doesn't resume correctly via fingerprint scanner

Hello, I have a pretty new T430 and occasionally (about 30% of time time) when I try to resume from hiberation or sleep via the fingerprint scanner, it will start to boot, maybe even show the desktop for a brief second, but then stop on a black screen. The cursor is visible and active, the fan and drive are running, but that's it. The only thing I can do is hold down the power button to force a shut down and boot again.
I'm running Windows 8, and I hoped that downloading the new driver from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS029769 would fix this, but it hasn't. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I posted the same exact issue yesterday, but somehow my post is gone.
I have a T510 and mine constantly does this (every time, never fails). I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple times with no resolution. When I do a fingerprint login, it logs me in, shows the desktop and all active content/windows, and then goes right back to the fingerprint screen.
The only way to get it to "stick" (not go right back to the lock screen) is to quickly click and focus the mouse on some application/area within the desktop, as soon as it's visible for the split second that it's shown.
*NOTE*: Mine happens on login, not just resume. If my screen is locked because of idle and I try to log back in using the fingerprint reader this happens every time.

  • HP ENVY 17 G0U21AV - Is there a way to disable the Fingerprint Scanner?

I am using an HP ENVY 17 G0U21AV Windows 8.1.
This model came with a fingerprint scanner in the lower left of the computer. While this seems like a nice feature, it's not one that I am planning on using (I use LastPass for my passwords). I keep accidentally running part of my palm over the scanner which will bring up the screen for HP SimplePass. This can come up at the most inopportune moments, and it can get quite annoying trying to always conciously avoid the fingerprint scanner.
Is there any way to disable the fingerprint scanner?
    Thanks.

    @DSWJoshua,
Thanks for posting. You can disable the fingerprint reader. To be thorough, I will provide steps to disable the driver itself, and Biometric support, so you don't have to worry about it later.
To disable the Driver, go to Control Panel, then Device Manager. Expand Biometric devices. Right-click on the Validity sensor and Uninstall.
To turn off biometric support, go to Control Panel, then Biometric devices. Uncheck Allow users to log on to Windows using their fingerprints and then save it.

  • Envy 15 AMD A10 USB ports and fingerprint scanner not working

    Hi
I've had my HP envy 15 about 2 months now and today all the USB ports as well as the fingerprint scanner stopped working. In the device manager I have 6 entries under the USB headding, all have yellow triangles next to them, all display an error code 19 in the properties.
I have tried uninstalling the devices in device manager and then performing a hard reset. I've attempted to locate the usb 3.0 host controlers for my laptop, but I've had no joy and I've tried running both the Microsoft and HP update facalities to try and force a driver update but so far nothing.
Somebody please help because I'm banging my head against the wall at this point.

    Hello, @LeapM
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you cannot use any USB ports or the fingerprint scanner. That you have error code 19. I will try to assist you with this.

  • Fingerprint scanner issue with Win 7 and Satellite Pro A300

    SORRY MODEL IS A300.
Upgraded/overlayed Vista to Windows 7 Professional and have found fingerprint scanner not working.
Unable to remove program and wont accept fresh install of fingerprint scanner or even new fingerprint to be scanned. (Old Vista program working in background somehwere?)
Is the fingerprint scanner which was installed under Vista now not compatible with WIndows 7.
There seems to be no upgrades or downloads for Fingerprint Drivers for Windows 7 as yet.
    Message was edited by: lasdec1

    Hi mate
To be honest I doubt that Win 7 drivers would be published for this oldie.
I mean the Satellite Pro A30 is a older series and even Vista drivers were not published for this model row
I searched on the Toshiba European driver page but I found only the W2k, Win XP drivers for this unit
So if you want to use Win 7 on this notebook, then you need to collect the drivers at your own hand and this would be the same with the fingerprint reader. Maybe the driver designed and released for other series would work.
It looks like Toshiba is in progress of driver release for different series you could take a look to the different series and could try the drivers.

  • HP Probook 4540s: Fingerprint Scanner Not Working

    Hi,
Problem: Fingerprint Scanner - Windows log in does not give option to log in via fingerprint scanner.
Overview: After installing fingerprint drivers from the HP site and using the HP Protect Tools to successfully enroll fingerprint, I tried logging in via this method but the windows log in screen does not display this option. Device manager correctly identifies and shows the fingerprint sensor - however, the control panel says no biometric devices detected.
I really need help in sorting out this issue. Details of what steps I took trying to make the scanner work are given below.
    Specs:
    1) Probook 4540s
    2) Windows 7 64-bit
    3) i5-3210m, 1Gb Hd 7650m, 4 Gb 1333Mhz, 750Gb 5400rpm, VFS 491 Fingerprint scanner.
Details of the problem and steps I took to install drivers:
After a fresh installation of Windows 7, I went to the HP driver site to download the latest drivers for Probook 4540s:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=5229457&...
I installed the drivers in roughly this order:
    1)realtek ethernet controller drivers,
    2)audio drivers,
    3) the chipset and USB 3.0 drivers (but not the Intel MEI driver)
    4) Intel video driver: faced an issue such that drivers were not being allowed to install. After disabling switchable graphics in the bios, I was able to get these drivers to install.
    5) AMD video drivers: installed after the intel HD graphics driver - installed but Catalyst Control Center was not being displayed. So I re-enabled switchable graphics in BIOS, re-installed these drivers and CCC was now available.
    6) HP hotkey support
    7) HP universal camera driver
    8) Validity Fingerprint sensor
    9) Synaptics Touchpad driver
    10) Atheros wifi & bluetooth
    11) Jmicron card reader
After driver installation, I installed the HP Protect Tools. After prompting for a PC reboot - which I did - it asked for setup of security etc.. Part of this pocess was the enrolling of my fingerprints - successful. However, upon log off/ restart of windows, an option to log in with the fingerprint scanner did not appear in the Windows log in screen.
I opened the Control Panel, and found there was no biometric devices tab, even though device manager showed biometric device and validity sensor (VFS 491). I then proceeded to uninstall HP protect tools and the validity driver for the fingerprint sensor, then made sure these services were running:
    -Credential Manager
    -Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    -DCOM Server Process Launcher
    -RPC Endpoint Mapper
    -Windows Biometric Service
    -Plug and Play
Then as suggested in another forum post, I first installed this :http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55109.exe and then the validity drivers from 4540s drivers page, and then HP Protect Tools.
After reboot HP Protect Tools as before would enroll my fingerprints, but again no prompt at windows login came to log in with fingerprint. However, one change after the installtion of http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55109.exe was that in control panel there is now a tab for biometric devices; however, it says that windows did not find any biometric devices installed. An image is attached showing both the device manager and the control panel!
Please HP provide a solution. Thanks!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Ok problem solved. I dont know whether it is related to the installation of HP windows 7 Essential System Updates and Intel MEI driver or not - but I did install these.
What really worked without doubt was this - > install both the fingerprint drivers and then the HP Protect Tools. Once rebooted, open HP Protect tools, then go to administration in the bottom right corner -> Administrative Console ->Increase System security -> tick windows login security and your done. Now you will be able to log in via enrolled fingerprints.

  • HP Pavilion dm4 3050us Entertainment Notebook Fingerprint scanner

Alright, so I just got my HP Pavilion dm4 3050us (Running Windows 7-Home Premium) a few days ago, and ever since I've been trying to figure out this fingerprint scanner. I just CANNOT figure out how to work it, or even open/start/launch it at all. It's like my notebook doesn't even know that it was freaking built into the dang thing. I've opened the biometric devices section of the Hadrware and Sound section of the control pannel, and it comes up saying "Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer. You might need to attach your device or install device drivers." I also tried opening the device manager and there wasn't even a section specified to biometric devices. I've updated the BIOS to the 2012-02-17, version F.08, 4.75M, and I installed the device driver for the fingerprint scanner that is compatible with my notebook (AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor Driver, 2011-10-28, Version 3.2.1.10, 6.83M). I just don't get how my notebook can't detect something that is freaking BUILT INTO it . . . I have no clue what else to do.
    Please help!

  • Envy dv7-7202tx Fingerprint scanner not working

It was working until this morning. I woke up, turned laptop on, realized the built-in fingerprint scanner on my dv7-7202tx device isn't responding/working (no blinking at the start, it should be) I tried swiping my fingers over it, no response. I researched it online, one of the solution was to uninstall the HP Simple Pass program and the Validity Sensor driver under Biometric Devices and to reinstall both - I downloaded the Validity Driver (sp58900) off the HP website under my product , yet it's still not responding. The only problem here now is the Validity Sensor driver (HP Simple Pass is working fine). I opened Device Manager and scanned for hardware changes, now there's no Biometric Devices (or driver was it) but there is an unknown device under other devices (error code 43). I want the fingerprint scanner working again.
    Note:
Yes, I did reboot after reinstalling. I even shut it down instead of restarting it.
    I need help! Thanks!
EDIT: Also, I checked the Biometric Device under Control Panel, and it says Windows did not find any....
EDIT 2: In the Device Manager, I clicked on Show Hidden Devices, still no Biometric Devices ...

    Hello LouieBot,
There was an update to the BIOS for this notebook on the 15th of last month.  I'd like for you to begin there.
Simple Pass is located here amongst all your other drivers.
Please let me know what happens after you update the BIOS.
    Good luck!
