HP encrypted drive :Unable to unlock media

Hello,
I have encountered a problem which caused me unable to access my laptop.
When i start my pc yesterday, after key-in my password at WinMagic screen(which is the screen before Windows start), then a pop-up shows "Unable to unlock media, please re-try after the computer restart"
So i did, but the outcome are the same with same pop-up message.
I tried searching on google and found one relevant case saying that i will have to leave my lappy for 4 days, 2 for the drive itself to encrypt and 2 for itself to decrypt.
Other case says that only HP recovery can help to restore my access yo Windows.
I do not have recovery file and that i do not want to lose all my data, please advise me what to do to resolve this issue.
Thanks so much.

I logged a support ticket about this issue. This is what i got back after a couple of weeks. I never went thourgh the whole thing as the user i had the issue with just backed all there data up and we whiped the drive and reinstalled. But see the below. The username and password probably dont work anymore but you can atleast use the below to get hp to help out. Sorry i dont have the file anymore from that ftp either. There are alot of images that go with the below as well but i just copyed the text. Thank you for contacting HP Customer Care Centre. This e-mail is in reference to theWe appreciate your patience while troubleshooting and resolving the issue. Issue: Drive Encryption Issue Please try the below steps and download the tool from the below link:    FTP Access  :     ftp://temps2er:[email protected]     Drop Box Host:    h2.usa.hp.com  (15.201.164.55, Failover: 15.240.92.59)    Login:            temps2er    Password:         ma!PC3zp  (NOTE: CASE-sensitive)Its strongly recommended that the hard drive is backed up prior to repairing. • HP Drive Encryption Error: Unable to unlock media.

Hi I looked around to see if anyone else is stuck with the same issue I am in but I haven't been so lucky. I was finally able to login into my HP Client Security since awhile and while looking around I clicked to have my hard drive encrypted not putting a lot of thought into it. My laptop rebooted due to Norton while I was at work. When I came back and tried to login via the HP Drive Encryption like I would usually do it would not let me instead a message appeared that it was "unable to unlock media. To try again when it would re-start" I thought okay I would try again. However no matter how many times I try to login the same message would come out. I really don't know what to do and I am afraid I will have to do an HP recovery if I don't find a solution.

Bumping this post.  I have the same exact problem.  I checked box to encrypt hard drive.  Now upon booting back up, I get that I am "unable to access media".  I can't use my established password and my 3 question sparekey doesn't work either.  I really don't want to start from scratch again for something that wasn't my fault.  Don't put the software on if it isn't going to work properly.

  • Unable to unlock encrypted disk images created with Snow Leopard using Lion

Anyone else unable to unlock encrypted disk images created with Leopard and Snow Leopard with Lion?  I know that they made changes with the release of FileVault 2 on Lion and Snow Leopard cannot use Lion encrypted disks but I thought it was backwards compatible where Lion should still be able to work with Snow Leopard created images (it was in the pre-release versions of Lion).
When attempting to mount an encrypted disk image created with Snow Leopard on Lion the normal password prompt appears but then just reappears every time the password is entered and does not unlock and mount the image.  I'm positive the correct password is being entered and it works just fine when done on a machine running Snow Leopard.

Not in cases when the computer successfully boots to one OS but produces three beeps when an attempt is made to boot it to another. If it really was a RAM problem that serious, the computer wouldn't get as far as checking the OS version, and it has no problems booting Lion. In the event of a minor RAM problem, it wouldn't produce three beeps like that at all.

  • Time Machine - External Hard Drive will not unlock

Laptop: Macbook, OSX 10.7.5, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB RAM
External: 320 GB, Seagate Free Agent Pro - 9KV2AA-502
I just bought this external a few weeks back and ran TimeMachine. Backed up my computer about 5 times since the purchase. I decided to encrypt my backups and set up a password.
If you try a bad password, you can try again, over and over, but once the correct password is entered, the drive does not unlock and the password window remains greyed out.
The drive does show up on disk utility but the partition is also greyed out.
Any hints as to accessing the drive? I do not mind reformatting the drive since it is primarily used for backing up my system.
    Thanks!

  • Can i recover lost data from encrypted drive by Bitlocker

Hello Dears. I had encrypted my drive by Bitlocker in windows 7.
few days after my friend did quick format in my encrypted drive.
my 300 gb of data lost. and nothing saved
    i remember unlock password.
how can i recover my data ??? i need my data
i tried drive recovering tools (advanced EFS data recovery, easeus . . ,) . but . . . it's encrypted and formatted drive.
can i undo quick format and decrypt ???
sorry my english is not good.
    someone help me please.

BitLocker is not the cause of failed to recover files.
Format a drive will clear all data saved on the hard disk. Thus recovery formatted data will be a hard disk based technology but not related to operation system. There is no build-in data recovery feature in Windows operations. So we will needto use third party recovery tool or contact third party data recovery company for current issue.
As recovery missing data service will be expensive, we can also check emails and contact friends to see if that can help get a part of files back especially for photos, documents etc.

  • Encrypted drives accessible by other users

    Howdy,
I am looking into encryption methods for OS X (previous post here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22321009#22321009) and in playing around with it i found the following:
If i have an encrypted drive or partition mounted on my desktop i can not secure it by simply unmounting, logging out or starting a password protected screensaver. Another user can sign in through 1. fast user switching, 2. the main login window after i have logged out and 3. by using the 'Switch User' button at the bottom of the screensaver when it asks for a password. As soon as the other user logs in, there are my encrypted drives or partitions, no password asked!
The only way to secure an encrypted drive is to 1. Restart the Mac, 2. Turn off the Mac or 3. in the case of an external device, physically disconnect it.
Am i overreacting or is this a huge security concern/flaw and more importantly, are there ways to plug these holes if multiple users have to have an account on the same system?
I have read something similar a few months ago that mentioned simply unmounting a drive was not secure but it did not cover other users or offer a solution (can't find the article anymore).
    Jay

This is how mounting volumes works in OS X. Once mounted, a drive is available systemwide, and not restricted to a specific user. The encryption that OS X sets up on a drive is per-volume only, and not intended to protect the data from other users on the system. Instead, its intent is to prevent someone from finding your drive and plugging it into another system to overcome security and access your files.
Ultimately the mode for securing files from other users of the same system is to not rely on encrypted volumes. If mounted, the unencrypted drive will remain unlocked and re-mountable. The only way to secure it again is to fully detach or eject it from the system.
However, overall it is not really a security flaw in the system. While intuitively it may seem the system ought to lock the drive again once ejected, this behavior still falls in line with how the system already handles local drives, where any volume (encrypted or not) is viewable accessible by other user accounts.
The way you can prevent another user from accessing the mounted volume is to get information on the volume, and then click the lock at the bottom to authenticate for changes, and then uncheck the box to ignore ownership on the volume. This will have the system observe permissions restrictions for files on the drive, but keep in mind this will only be restrictive to non-administrative accounts, as any admin can re-check the box and have full access to the drive again.
An alternative option is to use an encrypted disk image to secure files. Unlike encrypted drives, the system should fully eject an encrypted disk image when you eject it, requiring its password to be entered when mounting the image again. Unfortunately as with other mounted volumes, if you mount the disk image in your account and keep it mounted, then another user that logs in at the same time will be able to access this volume.

  • Genesys CTI  Driver-Unable to create Driver for GplusVoice

I have a 8.0.0.4 and Genesys 7.5 integration. We are receiving the following error messages in our CommSessionMgr and Scomm Logs when we attempt to make a connection from Siebel to the Genesys CTI Server. There are no firewall ports blocking any traffic between Siebel and Genesys and then are on the same subnet and VLAN. Also, we can establish a basic connection to the Genesys T-Server without Siebel in place. We think that it may be a configuration issue somewhere but we are not sure where to look. I was just wondering if anyone on this board had any basic ideas to troubleshoot this issue besides looking through the log files and the Comm Drivers and Profiles section etc.

  • Windows 8: Bit Locker encrypted drive "Access Denied" external drive

I rebuilt my computer and installed win 8.1 pro.  Now my external drive comes up as an empty drive with "Access denied".  Here is the kicker: I had turned off bitlocker on the external drive long ago as it interfered with automated backups.
    Running the commands suggested here:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/738c1760-c96d-430f-9ae6-1f28f5c60998/windows-8-bit-locker-encrypted-drive-not-found-or-access-denied?forum=w8itprosecurity it shows the bitlocker but as unlocked.  Drive still shows empty.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

Ahh, turns out to be permission issue not bitlocker (or maybe bitlocker caused it to lose permissions, don't know).
Opened MyPc, right click on drive ->properties->security->advanced and selected apply to all.

I am now unable to link media(MTS files)  in Premiere pro CS6 after updating to 10.8.3.  Instead of the folder where the MTS files where there is now "AVCHD" with the quicktime symbol.  When I control click, it just offers me with the quick look option.   Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Ipod locked and unable to unlock

i have been having some problems w/ my ipods hard drive. i think i was able to fix the problem but a new one arrived. my ipod is locked and i am unable to unlock it. everything else appears fine but i just can't unlock it. i plugged it into my computer and it synced w/ itunes just fine. so i tried to reset it and toggle the hold button. i tried to reset it w/ the select and menu button. i tried to restore it but that didnt' work either. i was just wondering if there was a way to unlock it through itunes or if there is anything else that i might be able to do to unlock it.
    thanks

Hi. From what I've learned, you have to restore it, which will erase the hard drive so you better have everything backed up if you want it back. I'm still doing that...have yet to attempt the magical "restore"...if that even works. Did you know that if your warranty is expired, they can charge you $30 bucks to help you...over the phone! Stupid update! Good luck.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
did you get a message when trying to import from the memory card?
did you use a card reader?
what was you exact workflow for attempting the import?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?

  • Unable to unlock folder via "Get Info uncheck Locked"

Hi, a folder I am trying to remove (stored on the Time Machine hard drive) is for some reason locked, and, I am unable to unlock it by unchecking the Locked check box. It momentarily becomes unchecked, then, half a second later becomes checked/locked again. Any suggestions?
    Thanks
(Also...quick question: is there a way to add a comments column to files viewed in iTunes, similar to the columns for date, musician, last played, etc....?)

The folder is on the Time Machine hard drive, the physical drive within the TM Capsule; it is not within the Time Machine backup image.
I'm using the hard drive of TM Capsule as an external drive accessible by all computers on a wireless network...is this okay??
Sorry about the confusion. The TM Capsule hard drive has files and folders similar to the following:
    Photos
    Font Library
    computername1_001b6312312322.sparsebundle
    computername2_001b6312311231.sparsebundle
    computername3_001b63121232222.sparsebundle
    PersonalStuff
    SharedStuff
    z_erase
Inside z_erase I placed the folders I would like to unlock and delete. I cannot move them to the Trash...they came from other folders like PersonalStuff or Photos, not TM sparsebundles.
Thanks again, sorry about the mixup

  • Repeatedly asked for encrypted drive password

Hi - I've just partitioned an external drive into two and encrypted each seperately by right clicking on them and choosing encrypt drive - all went well. One partition is for time machine and the other for random files. Then the first time I reattached the drive I was asked to put the encryption password in again, so I did and asked for it to be added to keychain - now everytime I plug the drive in it asks for the password again even though it is in keychain. I've deleted them from keychain and started again but I still end up with the same problem. Also, if you click cancel when it asks you for the password it goes ahead and mounts the drive using the keychain password anyway! What gives? Is there something wrong with the encryption or keychain? What am I missing?
    Thanks!

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • Data Recovery from Partitioned and formatted Bit Locker Encrypted Drive

Recently because of some issues in windows 7 installation from windows 8 installed OS. it was giving as the disc is dynamic windows can not be installed on it. so at last after struggling hard no other solution i partitioned and formatted my whole
drive so all data gone included the drive which was encrypted by bit lockers.
For recovery i used many software such as ontrack easy recover, get data back, recovery my files professional edition but still i couldnt able to recover my data from that drive. then i found some suggestion Using CMD to decrypt my data first
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee523219(WS.10).aspx
where it shows it successfully decrypt my data at that moment my drives were in RAW format excluding on which windows is installed and then in CMD i check Chdsk which also shows no problem found. but now problem is still i coudnt able to recover
my data then i format the drive D and again tried to recover data using above software after decryption still no result.
Now i need assistance how i can recover my encrypted drive as it was partitioned and also formatted but decrypted also as i have its recovery key too. thanks

    Hi ,
I am afraid that we cannot get the data back if the drive has been formatted even if use the
    BitLocker Repair Tool.
You’d better contact your local data recovery center to try to get data back.
