HP ENVY 14 Heat and FAN issue

Hello Team,
I am having an issue with my new HP ENVY laptop.
I purchased it because some of my application uses lot CPU and I found this laptop can fits my requirement.
Now IF I use this application ,My laptop burns like anything and  heat is that much as i can not even touch the air wings .....
(running dynamips application)
Second issue is the FAN...Sometime its having lots of NOISE (without  running my apps) and its relay annoying to hear that voice(same like Datacentre server noise)
I already bought cooling pad and i think my BIOS is also updated.appriciated your inuts ASAP.
my config  is as below.
BIOS Version:              Hewlett-Packard F.13, 27-08-2010
System Model:              HP ENVY 14 Notebook PC
System Type:               x64-based PC
Processor(s):              1 Processor(s) Installed.

Available Physical Memory: 3,167 MB
Virtual Memory: Max Size:  12,153 MB
Virtual Memory: Available: 9,027 MB
Virtual Memory: In Use:    3,126 MB

i may have just fixed it without even trying to!
i saw the new mountain lion thing, and saw that there was a beta for Imessage on the mbp and i decided to download it, and since that download, it started cooling back down and the fan turned off for the first time in almost a day without me putting the computer to sleep myself!!!
i dont know if it will stay like that, but hopefully it was just a freak thing!!
EDIT: NEVERMIND... THE LOUD FANS ARE BACK...

  • World of Warcraft from Core 2 Duo to i7: heat and fans

    Hi,
I've been playing World of Warcraft on my 2008 Core 2 Duo 2.93MHz for some time now, with moderate rendering settings, at 1024x640 in window mode so I could check mail and other things. I was very satisfied with the whole thing.
I recently upgraded to the top 2.66MHz i7 with 8MB RAM. With exactly the same settings WoW now uses apparently more CPU cycles and brings CPU heat between 70° and 90°. Therefore fans quickly jump towards 6000rpm. I tried to lower the settings, to no avail.
And I thought with that new machine I could use WoW with full resolution and settings...
Is there something I should be aware of?

    Hi
My i7 macbook pro also runs very hot, i.e. 90 degrees when playing Championship Manager or Dragon Age Origin with all settings at max.
Mind you, the i7 in the macbook have turbo boost speed around the same as you old macbook, also it have hyper threading which increase the core temperatures.
So overall, the i7 have more transistors than the core 2, so it will produce more heat and require more air flow to cool it therefore faster fan speed.
for me, I've stooped play games on the macbook for the reason as I don't want the CPU to operate so close to its maximum temperature for long period of time.
I'm don't think its harmful to the macbook to play games continuously. But I don't think the macbook is not designed as a game laptop, and no other applications I use stress both the CPU and GPU close to 100% at the same time for any long period.
But I do have a PC if I want to play games.

  • Battery, heat, and ringer issues

I recently purchased the Iphone 4s.. this is my first iphone
I did the update that Apple sent out to help the battery and it seems like it worse then before the update??  My phone has been off the charger for 45 minutes, I sent 1 text message, and had 1 phone call.  The percentage is now at 87.  It the last 2 minutes i have watched it go down 2%?  Is this normal?  Also, the phone gets REALLY hot...
If not, what do I do now??
Also, I keep missing phone calls because I don't hear the phone ring... but the ringer is all the way up..
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

    1. Connect your Z10 to the wall outlet charger for an hour and then with the Z10 powered on, and with it STILL CONNECTED, remove the battery for a minute and replace. This will normally reset the the on-device battery meter and allow the charging status and percentage to show more correctly.

  • Heat, and Fans, and a Power Supply issue! Oh, My!

    Hello,
My iMac G5 2Ghz (20") has been experiencing issues lately which I thought were resolved back when I brought it in for the "Repair Extension Program for Power Supply Issues". I took it to my local Apple Store and they replaced the power supply as well as my HD. The machine kept shutting off at random times as well as heating up, so it broke my HD after several months making me forced to bring it in. First and most importantly, the machine is producing a significant amount of heat which I believe is not normal, especially when doing simple tasks such as opening a file or folder on the desktop just after boot. I don't mean to complain about the heat, but the whole room is filled with hot air and it feels like somebody turned the heat on. I have several other Macs around my house and no two of them make as much heat as this one. (iMac G4 and eMac G4) The fans power on from time to time, but "rev up" when doing CPU intensive tasks. I understand the fans need to be at a higher speed, but they were never this high when I just used iMovie back in 2005 when this was new. Now, I know others have been having issues in these related areas as well, but is there anything else I can do. I have tried about everything, but I am just worried that power supply and HD will go again. Also, the highest inside temperature I recorded was "161.4°F". I thought that the normal temperature was "70°F", so if anyone could tell me that as well, it would be appreciated.
I have tried just about everything:
    PMU/SMU reset
    PRAM reset
    reset-all
    repair permissions
You name it, but fell free to reply with something new. (the fans are already clean)
    Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. I at one point ran the hardware test using my installer disc and all was fine. It seems that the fans were actually running better when I booted from the disc which leads me to think it could really be partially a software issue. There is a possibility there is something corrupt in the system files, but I had to reinstall Mac OS X a few times due to them replacing my HD. It seems the computer runs cool with the lower versions of 10.4, but warmer with the higher versions of 10.4. It now makes sense because it shipped with a lower version and over time got worse with the higher versions. I am assuming that the people who got their power supplies replaced had the lasted update possible causing this issue. I cannot be 100% that it is software because I do not know exactly which system files run each hardware component. I am currently using the machine a lot and would not be too happy without it for about a week. (although, before the holidays come it may be best to bring it in before the holiday gift repair parade comes in!) Thanks again for the advice and if anyone owns this machine, feel free to share your message.

  • Heat and Fan on Retina MacBook Pro

    Hi Guys,
This is my first post in the forums and I just wanted some advice on an issue. I know there are existing discussions - but I've read conflicting answers in each. I'd like to know if the fan and heat I'm experience on my brand new 15 inch mid-2014 Retina MacBook Pro is normal.
I use Adobe Premiere Pro CC to edit 1080p video for a YouTube channel. I've noticed that after I begin exporting the fans kick in within seconds and the heat jumps up substantially. Idle, the temperature I've measured with SMC fan control is roughly 35-40 degrees, but within a minute of exporting - this jumps up to around 98/99 degrees. I understand that the fans would start after a certain amount of time and that the temperature would rise. But is it normal to rise to 99 degrees????
I've not noticed this with games, but just when exporting.
    Thanks for any help.

That screen shot is very helpful. You have a four core CPU and each core can handle two threads so the %CPU can be over 100%. In your case, it's over 700% total usage with 800% being all there is available, so your rMBP is working very hard indeed. While I start cranking up the fan speed using smcFanControl just as you are, there's just so much the fans can do given that load. And we don't know how hard the graphics coprocessor is working, and that just adds more heat. I suspect the lower temperature may be because the intake ports may have been partially blocked on your lap; it really doesn't take much given their location. It looks like your laptop is doing the best it can.
There's a reason why five large fans were used in the Mac Pro towers (not counting the graphics card fan).

  • Closed Screen, External Monitor, Heat, and Fans

We have our MBP connected to an external Dell Ultra 22" dvi monitor (awesome!). We use apple BT keyboard and mighty mouse (again awesome!). Now, my concerns:
    1. Screen damage from keyboard - I've read (to my disbelief) that mac laptop/portable machines can't be closed without some type of material laid on the keyboard to protect the screen. Is this true? If yes, does this cause a heating problem?
    2. We use the MBP for email, web surfing, calendar, etc. Nothing very heavy at all. The fan comes on after 20-30 minutes of working and the machine is very hot (iStat 140F for processor and graphics processor).
Since moving over to mac at the release of the intel processors, I've bought 4 (17" imac, 20" imac, 24" imac, and now a 15" MPB). I do love the look and the OS but some of the issues are kinda silly. I can't believe we tolerate it so well.
Anyway, thanks for looking and any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

While many of us use some fabric that sits between the keyboard and the screen, such as ScreenSavrz its not needed. There is some clearance between the keys and the screen. I like it there just to be sure As for creating heating problems I don't keep the fabric on the keys while its own.

My MBP runs between 50 and 60c which is right in the ball park of your temps. Ambient temperatures also effect how quickly the MBP will warm up. That is, if its 32c (90f) then the mbp is going to get hotter quicker. I recommend a little app called SmcFanControl It gives you the ability to set the fan speed and thus provide better heat management on your MBP.

Well all computers and operating systems have their own idiosyncacies. Overall I think Macs and OSX are so much superior to windows and Dells that I don't mind some of the stuff we need to put up with

  • Pavilion dv7 - heating and fan problems, hinge broken - DO NOT PURCHASE THIS JUNK!!!

This message is targetted towards people looking to purchase an HP Pavilion dv7 series of notebooks. Hopefully they are scanning these boards prior to purchase, something I (very) regretfully did not do.
    My system: Intel i7 Q720 @ 1.60GHz, 8GB, ATI mobility radeon HD5650 1GB, Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
Almost immediately, there were severe overheating problems. Even under normal use (1- 4% CPU, Word, Excel etc.) it became too hot on the left side to keep on my lap. My kids actually burned their hands on that part. I once used it on a table with a vinyl tablecloth. It actually melted the vinyl!
Running any CPU/GPU intensive software causes a shutdown due to overheating, a real nuiscance with playing games or watching video in HD. Just as a test, I ran one computationally intensive program overnight while I kept the machine in my freezer. Even then, it overheated and shutdown! (I have not overclocked; just running my software on the hardware as purchased).
Even in normal use, the fan runs very high, and is very noisy. It is so noisy that I cannot leave it on in my bedroom.
Finally, because of the positioning of the vent, I am certain that the intense heat weakens the left hinge. I am very careful with how I open lids, always with both hands on the lid. Within two months, the left hinge cracked. I argued extensively with HP, but they insisted that it was my fault, and I was charged for the fix.
I'm wondering whether the designers ever turned on (let alone stress tested) these units prior to selling this piece of !@#$.
Added bonus: within 4 months, the hard drive failed, though I can't pin that on HP. While the drive was getting replaced, I went out and bought an Acer. It had better specs than the HP, was cheaper, lighter, and even with the CPU at close to 100 percent, the heat is hardly noticable, and the fan is barely audible.
I bought HP because most of the scientific instruments in our labs is manufactured by HP, and it is truly high quality , high precision equipement, some of it running for over 25 years problem free. From that, I really trusted the HP name, I trusted that their PC division would have equal quality and standards. !#$% was I wrong! I'm glad they're getting out of the PC business.
The only reason I'm keeping this junk is because I took the extended warranty at the store, and under it, after three major repairs, they will get me a new notebook of equal or greater value. I can't wait for that inevitable third breakdown!

The dv 7 eg 4012  is the biggest disapointment:
the hinge brakes, it has an overheating problem!!!
Be prepared to replace it after 12 months or pay the bill for the repairs, hundreds of dollars.
I purchased the laptop directly from the hp online store about a year and a half ago.
First of all I had to install the latest drivers because hp is not making sure it comes with up to date drivers.
To find out what the problem was I had to contact the costumer service about 6 times.
After about 12 months the laptop startet splitting at the left hinge.  The HP Costumer Service looked at the photos and told me this, Quote:  "We have received the attachment of broken hinges and find it is an user damage hence, the service of the Notebook would be done on chargeable basis."
Before you want to buy a hp laptop, please type into google:  broken hinge hp laptop
And you will see hundreds of posts of disappointed costumers.
Even class action lawsuit have been taken out against them.
For me, this was the last time that I invested about a 1000 Euros( bought it in Europe) in a product which needs to be replaced after a year and a half.
Please stay away from this product,
except you have plenty of time and money to keep this machine alive.

  • Start up and fan issues

Last week, when I was adjusting permissions for a folder, I selected the wrong folder (the hard drive actually) and changed permissions to all read and write. As soon as I realize what I done wrong, after about 5 minutes, I cancelled.
It didn't seem to affect the computer the next few start ups, but a couple days later, my CS3 programs wouldn't start up due to some errors. Great. I think there's a major issue from what I did. I restarted, and then it went downhill.
    1. Start up - chime ok
    2. Goes into grey apple logo screen - ok
    3. stays in grey apple logo screen for a long time, and after about 3 minutes - fan starts to go in turbo mode. This goes on indefinitely.
Cannot shift, cannot command S, cannot command V. No boot keys work, except that
I can do pram reset and go into open firmware though.
Since this mac is a used mac (Mac G5 - serial number G85466****), there is no start up disk that came with it. However, I have the latest OS - Mac OS Leopard 10.5.6. I cannot get it to boot from the disk, even if I press C at start up.
    How can I fix this?
    <Edited by Host>

Tried option - I must have missed this one, but was able to get into the OS cd this way, so I've reinstalled the OX and it seem to work now. I am running repair permissions right now, to fix anything I might have screwed up.

  • Any problems with heat and fan noise on Guild Wars 2 Macbook Pro retina?

I am thinking to start Guild Wars 2 Mac beta on my Macbook pro retina, but i have been reading in different forums that it heats up the system and that the fan kicks off really loud when playing the game. Anyone has any experience on this? Any guild wars 2 gamers please give me some feedback.

I have been playing GW2 for a while now on Beta. The game runs choppier than windows but I think that's because it's a Beta version. I bet after they finish optimizing it things should change, even heat.
As for the heat, it gets super hot. So hot the keyboard gets hot, and when I push in the keys, I feel heat. It's warm enough to cause concern. I don't know if it's bad or not, but the dude at the Apple Genius/Store said, the MBPR knows when it gets too hot and it'll let you know. He said if it plays and nothing is warning me then it's fine. The MBPR won't allow itself to go to catastrophic failure due to heat.
So I took his advice and have played. Just Monday (October 1st 2012) I played for a good 5 hours non-stop and nothing came up so if the Apple Genius guy is correct then I wouldn't worry about it. I do have AppleCare so if something does fail then I will blame the apple genius guy.
It's a fun game, my first MMO, but it's too hard for me sometimes. I don't like that

  • MBP08 Running Vista 32-bit Heat and Battery Issues

    Hi,
I am a new mac user and have just finished installing Vista Home edition through bootcamp on my new macbook pro. First concern I found was the excessive running temperature (after about 10 mins I was cooking my legs) this has probably already been brought up before but I was wondering whether anyone can bring me up to speed on any possible solutions/fixes?
Also, vista seems to have a hunger for battery lifek, again anything I should know? If the problem persists, I think I am going to opt out of using boot camp altogether.
One last thing, is there any performance difference when installing XP? I don;t mind what OS i use, I'd just like the practicality of windows on my mac.
    Thanks in advance.
    - MushMush146

Sorry I did not see that you specified what MBP you had in your signature.
Anyways: In windows your battery gets drained a little quicker because windows can only work with the external video card (9600 M GT), so you can compare it with running in High Performance all the time.
Windows XP is a little faster then Windows Vista (32 bit) because XP uses less resources. 32-bit systems are always limited to 3.3 GB of RAM, so your Vista is not using all of the 4GB RAM you have on your MBP. You can consider installing Windows Vista 64 bit or Windows XP instead, you will have more RAM and therefore a faster computer.
Note that Leopard is not really a 32 bit system, it also has a 64 bit library (and can handle up to 6GB RAM). The hardware in your MBP is fully 64 bit and can handle up to 8 GB RAM. Snow Leopard is going to be a 64 bit system. (and can theoretically handle up to 128 GB of RAM)
I have no answer for you for the heat issues... probably a driver problem everyone is struggling with. Time for a Bootcamp version 2.2...

  • Heat and fans

I am concerned about my new 2.8ghz MBP. I used systemload to ramp up the CPU's to test the fans, and the temp reached 198F before the fans went from 2000RPM to 3000RPM. Even then, it took almost 5 minutes at that temp to get the fans to go to 3000RPM. Is there a problem with the fans? Shouldn't they ramp up before 198F?

In all fairness, you are putting an artificially high load on your machine. Under most circumstances your machine will take a bit longer to start to run that hot. The importing thing is that the fan does speed up and cool down your system. The fans are set to gradually increase at a certain point... if your machine hits that point and continues to rise... it may take a few seconds for the fan to catch up. It is also worth noting that Apple regularly tweaks fan behavior with firmware updates. 198 F (92 C) is a bit toasty... but not unheard of for the type of load you are putting on it. Did your temp get much over 198... or was that when it started to go down?
Unless you expect to be using your machine at 100% capacity on a regular basis, you would not likely see this. Granted... you "should" be able to run your machine at max capacity. If your machine is not capable of regulating the heat under high usage, you may want to have Apple take a look at it. But... if it can keep it to 198 or lower under a maximum load... you should be okay.

  • G5 start up and fan issue-tried evertything

I need advice here...I have a G5 iMac 20" flat screen that I purchased directly from Apple in 2005 and also had them add additional ram when I purchased it. I have had no problems with it other than fans running load on occasion. Here's what happened...I was working online and the computer froze, mouse and all, a force quit didn't work so I pulled the cord and tried a restart. The start up sound did not happen although it sounded like the computer was on. The screen remained dark and the power light came on and off. After about 1 minutes the fans kicked in very loud (think: plane taxing the runway loud). I have tried many restarts, sometimes the light comes on, sometimes it doesn't. I have unplugged everything, tried restarts after that, I have also gone through the steps to reset the PRAM and also the SMU with no change. Only one time did it actually start up, screen lit and progress bar moved but then everything froze halfway through the start up. I inserted the Disc 1 into the slot and attempted to start up using the disc (holding down the C key) and it turns on, no start up sound, I can hear the computer 'running' the disc but it will not fully start up, the screen is dark and I cannot eject the disc.
Am I dealing with a hard drive issue? Does the ram need to be moved to another slot? Help!

More than likely, when you pulled the cord you corrupted the drive. If you have access to DiskWarrior or TechToolPro, try running them. You can also take the back off and check the [LEDs|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2831] to try and pinpoint the problem.
By the way, to eject the disk, hold down the mouse button while powering off.

  • Dv7-2185dx Power supply and Fan issues

A little while ago, my fan started making ridiculously loud noises under normal operating.  It sounded as though it was possibly grinding on something, and as my notebook's warranty expired some number of months ago, I decided to take it apart myself and try to diagnose it.
In the taking apart process, a bit of an issue happened, and long story short, two cables got pulled from their white jack head.  It was part of the power supply ( hp spare part # 536857-001), that had two parts that went into the system board, the top of which had a six pin jack head, and the bottom of which had a two pin jack head (with a red and black cable.  When I searched online for replacements, they only seemed to have the top half of the power cable, and not these other two mysterious wires.
After trying to set the wires back in and putting the computer back together, I managed to boot the machine up with essentially no problems.  However, this only lasted a short time in testing, because when I moved the computer back 10 feet to my room from the table I was working on, the screen would no longer power on.  So I began re taking apart the computer, and found out that the computer will still power on without those two wires in, but the screen appears to be completely off.  Not even just the back light failing, but the screen seemed to be completely off.
So this leaves me with a few questions that hopefully someone can answer.
    1)  What on earth do these two wires do or power?
    2)  What is the best way to repair the wire?
    3)  I'm pretty sure that the red wire is on the left side and the black wire on the right side, but can anyone confirm that?
    4)  Has anyone had any similar issues with the fan?  I'm assuming I'm going to have to replace it, but I don't really know.
    Thanks in advance,
    Matthew Nickolai
(photos incoming as soon as I can find a cable to connect my camera to my computer)

What is the real name to that part??? except my laptop is the dv7-2180us but i think our plugs are probably similar. Mine has a short and I tried to order it but ended up only getting the bigger plug instead of both of them. The part number you listed was the one that I ordered but its not the one that goes in my laptop. The pre sales support told me to speak to a technician but since mine is no longer in warrenty I have to call and more then likely they'll charge me or ill get some person I cant understand.

  • Macbook mutliple heat and battery issues!

My MacBook Pro 17" runs so hot I can't hold it, when running with anything OTHER than the lowest screen brightness. CPU is running at half and it still shoots up in heat!
Annoyed now that it has gone through 2 batteries and both have expanded/stopped working after less than 100 cycles.
I have no idea what to do about this... I need this Mac for my Uni work but I can't use it if it's going to keep doing this it's ludicrous.
    Hope you can help!

So yeah, I called AppleCare and reset my PRAM (as I have done before). To be honest, they weren't that helpful. Everything continues to go wrong on this machine and APPLE refuses to acknowledge my difficulties with it. What gives? And why can't there be any help or assistance with this machine. This will definitely be the last Rev A I will ever purchase... EVER. I thought I could deal with it, but I can't.
The fan continues to start running about 5 minutes after starting up. I have less than two hours of battery life after calibrating the crap out of it. I reset my PRAM and do everything that Apple tells me to do, ENOUGH. I have had it. Any thoughts or suggestions would greatly be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

  • Macbook Air and Fan Issues

So I got it... Brand new 2.13 , 128 SSD Air. Having 27inch iMac at home I wanted something light, slim to carry around and for simple use when I am away.
I have to say its fast, faster than I expected and very classy. Installed Snow Leopard and troubles started....
But..... Considering it has SSD I never expected the fan to go up to 6200 rpm without running any applications. Called Apple and we did PRAM and SMC reset and nothing. It goes to 6200 and furiously blow for 10 minutes and goes back to normal. Half an hour later back to 6200. Crazy. My old iBook G4 is quieter than this.
Apple advised me to returned and swap it for new one. What a blow.
So awaiting new one... Anyone experienced something similar?
CPU 52C, Airport Card 35C, (in degrees)

Thank you, it seems like an ongoing problem. Looks like the replacement might have the same problem. I am so surprised Apple did not addressed that issue yet. Maybe new model soon?
But it is amazing piece of kit, I have to say...
