HP Envy 15 -J029nr "BIOS RECOVERY"

I upgraded my BIOS and it said it was successful but now it boots with a black screen. I have tried the Windows+B Key but it flashed 2 times on the Caps Lock which means BIOS Corruption. I erased the hard drive a long time ago so I have no access to HP_TOOLS on there but I can create one for the Flash Drive.

My question is how to get the BIOS FILES on the flash drive to flash it properly? Any idea?

I'm sorry that you're having this issue with your Envy system.
If you created the BIOS Recovery key from the SoftPAQ and the BIOS still does not recover, please make sure that you power on the system with the USB key plugged directly in to the computer (not into a USB hup or port replicator). It this still doesn't work, it may be that your system has an unrecoverable error such as a corrupted boot block, hardware issue, etc. If this is the case, you should contact the HP Support team in your country / region and they can let you know what your options are for service.

I put it on a Flash Drive and after I used the Windows+B and powered it up this time instead of flashing 2 times on the caps lock, it does not flash at all so that's different. It still does not read from the flash drive either to re-write or do whatever it is suppose to do. Tried using the UEFI Diagnostics USB from HP and putting the files into the right folders but nothing seems to work. Guess will ship it in tomorrow when I get my box.

Toshiba A105 BIOS Recovery Process Questions

Ive got a Toshiba Laptop A105-S4284, Model #: PSAA8U-0FH02K that froze while trying to flash the BIOS. Now, when I try to boot it up, it gets stuck in the same place it did during the flashing; on the Toshiba splash screen with the status bar at the bottom showing about 20% complete. Options available on this screen are: Press F2 for System Settings and F12 for Boot Menu. Pressing F2 results in a beep and the status bar is replaced with the text "Please Wait..." but nothing else happens no matter how long I wait. Pressing F12 doesnt do anything. Pressing ESC takes me to a screen that shows the typical system info -- Phoenix Technologies Version 6.00; Intel Calistoga CRB.T3A Reference BIOS; VERSION.MAK 1.53. It looks like its at least partially POSTing since it shows CPU, Cores, No TPM or TPM has a problem, and system RAM and stops there. I cant get into the BIOS and cant boot into Windows.
Ive read the posts on here regarding the BIOS Recovery Process and was hoping someone could provide some clarification for me, especially since Ive already waited a week with no reply on another tech support site forum. :-(
Anyways... Ive downloaded the Crisis Recovery.zip files to create a Recovery Disk and am trying to follow the instructions.
There are a bunch of files in the .zip and Im not sure exactly which files I need to have on the boot disk Im creating.
The files in the .zip are:
- crisboot.bin
- CRISDISK.BAT
- makeboot.exe
- minidos.sys
- phlash16.exe (actually PHLASH16 version 1.6.5.4)
- wincris.exe
- wincris.hlp
Ive downloaded the BIOS Update from Toshibas website for the A105-S4284. Which file do I need to rename to BIOS.WPH and add to my Recovery Disk directory? Do I want "s10gm600.rom" or "1988d600.ima"? I extracted the file from the bootable BIOS installation diskette (1988d600.exe) to get the 1988d600.ima file.
I ran wincris.exe and only the following files end up in the directory Ive designated for my Recovery Disk:
- BIOS.WPH
- MINIDOS.SYS
- PHLASH16.EXE
Do I need any of the other files from the original .zip?:
- crisboot.bin
- CRISDISK.BAT
- makeboot.exe
- wincris.exe
- wincris.hlp
If someone could provide some clarification on which files to use and most importantly, if those are the correct files for the laptop Im trying to fix. I think all the posts Ive read are for laptops newer than this one and it seems the secret to succeeding at recovering a BIOS is using the CORRECT files. Ive searched all over and cant find any posts from someone with an A100/A105 who has been able to do a BIOS Recovery from a CD, USB floppy or USB flash drive.
Is there ANY hope?

I had the same thing happen to my A105 4094. I've looked at some of the other blogs, but I'm not sure if I should try the corrective action they suggest. Not sure how common the different models are.
I'm going to keep trying to resolve this. If I find something that works, I'll write again and let you know. Please do the same for me and other A105 owners.

DV6-6000 LF372AV - Fails BIOS recovery

I have a DV6-6000 Prod #LF372AV where the BIOS became corrupted. Didn't attempt update, just failed out of the blue.
First symptom is turn on PC, hear fan come on then immediately reboots. Stuck in this cycle of rebooting forever. With no error codes (such as not even Caps Lock LED blink) I guessed corrupted BIOS.
I tried the Windows+B, but I've wiped this harddrive previously and the BIOS recovery partion was gone.
So, I downloaded and ran the HP UEFI Support Environment Softpaq as directed here:

This partially worked. With a Recovery BIOS loaded on the the USB flash drive, I can hold Windows+B at power up and BIOS loads off the USB key. However, it is NOT replacing the corrupted BIOS on the laptop.
According to the instructions, once the temporary BIOS is installed, a reboot should automatically occur. Instead, NOW it stays on (no more spontaneous reboot cycle) and I get a 2 blink error code out of the Caps Lock LED. It seems that the temporary BIOS loads into BIOS memory, but the stored BIOS itself cannot be overwritten. As I stated earlier, if I reboot, I'm back to the original condition.
So, it appears that the BIOS storage is bad. ???
Even if that is the case, I don't understand why boot into BIOS stops at the error indicating BIOS is corrupted. Obviously the mem copy of BIOS run off the USB flash drive is "more functioning" than the stored BIOS, but I still can't get far enough to get to the BIOS editor or any BIOS update utility.
I tried a second method. I downloaded the latest BIOS for this model laptop from HP support. Then I extracted it and ran the updater. It extracted an even newer version of the BIOS recovery tool onto my flash drive. This had the exact same results as the UEFI Support Environment version of BIOS. Therefore, two different versions of BIOS have failed to repair the corrupted BIOS and have failed to get me past the caps lock LED blinking twice.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Workaround:
There are few steps that has worked for few but not always..
Restart and tap F2. F2 will show an option “BIOS Management” . Select BIOS Management and then select “Roll Over to the previous BIOS”
BIOS Management option will not be available if the system do not have HP_Tools partition installed or if it is deleted.
Fix if BIOS Management is not available
i)                    Press and Hold the Windows Key and B key at the same time when the system is turned off or follow the steps from this link: Recovering the BIOS using key press combination
ii)                 Shutdown the Notebook. Remove the Hard Drive and then turn the computer ON and tap F10 to load BIOS. If it loads BIOS then it should rollback to previous BIOS or it might show a black screen. Just leave the system ON for about 2-3 mins and turn it on with the hard drive and check.

You can download new BIOS versions on the Toshiba website. Search for your model and select BIOS update
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
Download the right file and follow these instructions:
Extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
Make sure that all open files are saved and all applications are closed.
Execute the extracted *.exe file in the temporary folder. Follow the instructions on the screen.
The BIOS update will be done automatically.
After a few minutes the Notebook will restart automatically.

Cannot Update Envy X2 BIOS using sp69946.exe

I have been unable to update my Envy X2 BIOS using sp69946.exe. The executable does brings up a InsydeFlash 4.37 window with blank fields for ID and versions of the current and new BIOS. After several seconds, a popup appears warning me that "No WMI! Do you want to continue?"
If I answer OK, the current and new BIOS version fields show 12 and 14 respectively for less than a second, followed by a reboot. Using Windows System Information, I see both before and after the attempted BIOS update that Windows detects my BIOS as InSyde F.12, 5/8/2013.
I am running Windows 8.1 and have disabled my firewall and anti-virus based on a previous thread, but the results are always the same.
Where am I going wrong?

I understand you're unable to update the BIOS on your ENVY x2 notebook.
Try the steps to update from USB in this guide: HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS, in the section titled "Updating the BIOS when Windows does not start (Windows 8 or Windows 7)."

Pavilion a1240n Bad BIOS Check Sum Starting Bios recovery

I have a Pavilion a1240n when i turn on the computer the first screen that comes up says Bad BIOS check Sum starting BIOS recovery
Checking for floppy...
Floppy not found!
Checking for CD ROM....
CD ROM not found!
Checking for Floppy...

It does this continuously and I cant get pass the screen any Ideas on what could be the problem and how I can solve this issue

1.Remove the Battery
2. Change Jumper setting without Power Cord and reset as default.

Dv6-2000sl USB BIOS recovery

Hi guys, i'm kri.
i have a HP Pavillon dv6-2000sl that present double led blink(capslock & blocnum) I saw that rapresent bios curroption error.
The uefi partition on harddisk called HP_TOOL was empty (contains only SystemDiag Folder).
I'll want to create an USB UEFI bios recovery while i saw on the hp forum, but is inefficent.
The files that i find in BIOS package (support/dv6-2000/driver/ecc) wasn't the same file that the guide use to restore BIOS via USB. The guide isn't specific for this pc and the other online guide(not official) used or CAB.rom package o same files colled bios.wph or other exstensions.

I understand that you are getting a double LED flash pattern on startup, meaning a BIOS problem. I am happy to help.
Had you deleted the contents of HP_Tools at some point in the past?
It sounds like you went straight to trying to make a usb flash device to repair/reinstall the BIOS. Have you tried a basic BIOS restore from the saved image? Mainly using the Windows+B combination as described in this page.

X121e (x120e x130e) Bios recovery help

Hi everyone. After my x220 thread was left unanswered , I hope I'll have better luck with this.
I need bios recovery procedure for x121e ( x120e , x130e).
Im bricked , and neither method found in guides for wincrisis dont work. I think I cant enter bios recovery mode no mather which combinatiom of keys I use. Nothing happens just fan spins and laptop is not reading my usb ( usb led flashes for less than second and thats it.
It would be very helpful if anyone who successfully recovered x121e would post here.
It it means anything, its with amd e450 apu and its japanese version which has Japanese keyboard.

Fixed it!
So for everyone with same model and same problem: It turns out this bios really don't boot-block. So failed bios = paperweight brick without recovery options.
But this is how I solved mine. Bought a SPI programmer, ic test clip (soic8) , some wires and made adapter to connect clip ind programmer. Had some problems , and had also to modify downloaded bios since I didnt have good backup but after little playing it fired right up. If you have good backed up rom, flashing should be easier. This is solution for those with more technical skills , but much easier than soldering the chip.

HP TX2510US Bios Recovery

Hello,
My laptop would freeze on occasion so i decided to update the bios and it froze during the upgrade. When i now power it on i get the num lock and caps lock lights and they blink twice which indicates a corrupt bios. I get nothing on the screen. Is there anyway to fix this? replacing bios chip? bios recovery jumpers? Please advise

I am currently having the same issue as the original poster. Mine happened randomly I was using my laptop just fine yesterday and then turned it off and tried starting it up today and got the issue because it first got to the login screen and then locked up.
Any information or input would be greatly appreciated.

Ideacentre B520 Bios Recovery

Hi,
I would like to know, if there is a BIOS Recovery function for the IdeaCentre B520. Something like the normal Recovery-function for AMI-Bios with AMIBOOT.ROM on an USB-Stick or a Jumper on the mainboard.
I need this just for my documentation. If there will be a BIOS-Update in future, I could be sure, that I can recover my BIOS in case of a bad flash.
If there is no such option, were is the BIOS-chip located on the mainboard?

MSI 880G-E45 Bios recovery

Unfortunately today their was a short circuit in my house,I was playing a game while it happened the pc rebooted itself and when it did it didnt even boot the bios!!
It says Bios recovery is requested insert usb,
So i went to go look for the bios on this website and Its not even here and guess what msi doesn't even have it avaible for this specific motherboard only live update 5 which i can't even use because my pc is current well yeah you get me. so basically all I need is the bios for 880g-e45 thanks(:

MS-6702 (K8t neo) Flashed but now nothing, bios recovery doesn't work!!

I updated my bios to the latest one a few weeks back and have been having problems with setting my apeture size to 256 (Noticed a few other people have too here!)
So I reverted the bios back to the one before which I never had any problems with and now my board appears dead
I get no post screen and the optical drives all constantly seek for some strange reason, I've since unattached everything apart from my agp card, ram, processor and floppy drive in a bid to get bios recovery to work. Sadly it doesn't even try to read the floppy and just sits there feeling sorry for itself.
The LED bracket stays at 4 red lights but nothing else happens. I've had this rig for over 5 months so I know it's not the components before anyone suggests it.
This is doing my head in, thanks MSI firstly for releasing a buggy bios and secondly for killing my board

Have you tried clearing CMOS?
If that doesn't work your board is probably beyond recall. You have two choices:
1. Try to RMA it to MSI or your vendor.
2. Replace the BIOS chip
I have used (2) on several occasions with other vendor's systems. This works if the chip is socketed. I use BIOSFLASH.COM (http://biosflash.com/) - you have to ID your chip, tell them what you have, pay some money and e-mail them a copy of the binary you want programmed. They have a well-documented procedure on their website.
I would recommend getting at least two chips - one known good and one with the latest BIOS. That way you can recover from another problem like this one.
Looking at the example K8T Neo2 ATX board on MSI's site the BIOS is socketed but that may not be true of yours. I have a K8MM-ILSR with a soldered BIOS here, so not all their BIOS chips are socketed.
BTW, which method of flashing did you use? From DOS, I hope...running a BIOS flash from Windows is a recipe for disaster (that's why I know about BIOSFLASH.COM)
