HP ENVY 15 Notebook needs new battery

So the battery is dead on my HP Envy Notebook 15 (Product number: A9P58UAR#ABA). The battery model is the HP LR08XL. I believe the battery is dead because the power light is white and blinking, the computer can't detect the battery anymore no matter what I use to try to identify it, and the monitor and keyboard lights immediately go black if the power cord gets unplugged for even a moment. I've even tried some restart tricks that I've seen recommended on forums about HP Envy models. I just want to install a new battery. The main problem I see right now is that I don't know how to remove this kind of battery and have read it may have been "factory sealed" or something (why would they do that?). Anyway, how do I change the battery in the model above? Thanks!

  • PowerBook G4 probably needs new battery and power jack. Worth the repair?

I have a PowerBook G4 that is about 4.5 years old, with a 1.33 GHz Processor, 512 MB RAM, and a 60 GB HD. I got a new MacBook Pro recently, so I'm trying to sell this old PowerBook, but there are a couple problems with it.
One is that it still has the battery the computer came with, so it's safe to say that it's dead. Another problem is that there's a minor dent on the side by the power jack that makes the interface a bit fussy. Sometimes it needs to be fiddled with to contact correctly. So, in addition to a new battery, the external casing (and/or the DC-in) may need to be repaired, and I know doing so is few hundred dollars. Is it worth it for this computer? It's going on 5 years old, so I'm wondering if other things (like the hard drive), are going to fail soon.

Looking at ebay, there are two Powerbook 1.33Ghz models with bids between $185 and $249. If you're looking to sell it, and the hard drive is operating fine now, it's longevity shouldn't be a concern. That said, notebook hard drives do seem to have a higher failure rate the 3-5 year range than desktop drives.
Replacing the lower case, DC-in card, and new battery can run you around $450. You'd almost be better off taking it to Apple, to see if they'd send it to the Apple depot for around $325 to repair the DC-in problem. (I just sent one to the Apple depot for a logic board replacement, and they replaced the battery, too). Even so, you might have difficulty recouping that in a sale.
It does have Leopard, which may help the price you might get when you sell it.

  • Macbook Needs new Battery.  Where to buy?

I have one of the slightly older Macbook pros (just before unibody). I need to buy a new battery.
Apple wants $129 for a new battery. I find this to be ridiculous.
Anyone know where I can buy an alternative battery or buy from an alternative source? I know Apple hates it when a new market is created because they charge ridiculous sums for something so basic, but I am all for it.
Now if they would just allow google voice on the iPhone too

You're welcome to buy the cheapest replacement battery you can find on Ebay. If you do, you'll stand about a 50-50 chance of getting useless junk without any meaningful warranty. I find that to be ridiculous, and I'd much rather pay good money for a dependable battery from a vendor whose support and warranty I can rely on.

  • Need new battery and DVD burner for T61

    Hi,
I need a new battery.  Old one has totally died and won't hold a charge.
The burner is a different story.  Sometimes it will read discs other times it won't read at all, so I'm thinking it's on its way out.  Can someone supply correct part numbers?  Do you need the current part numbers of the parts that I have?
    Thx
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
if you have a 14.1" 4:3 standard screen or 15.4" T61, you will need the T60 type battery now commonly referred to as battery 41+ 6-cell or 41++ 9-cell by Lenovo marketing. If you have a 14.1" widescreen T61, you will need battery 33 4-cell, 33+ 6-cell or 33++ 9-cell.
Here is a useful post with some detailed information I shared with someone else facing similar T61 DVD Burner issues: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/optical-drive/m-p/1077041#M67668. As for part numbers, you will some listed in T61 System Service parts here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-67911#16. I.B.M./Lenovo loves to use many different part numbers for the same component based on the different manufacturers and different Thinkpad models. But basically, what you need is the Ultrabay Slim (PATA) type DVD Multi-Burner which fits T61, R61, T60, x60 dock, x61 dock, etc.: ThinkPad DVD Ultrabay Slim Burner - Overview.
If you need, I have all of these parts available, including New and used Genuine Lenovo T61 batteries and DVD Burners at terrific prices. I have sent you a PM with more info. Check you "New" messages at the top of this page
Have a great day. (I do not work for Lenovo)

  • Why does ipod screen flicker and shut down?Possibly need new battery?

Ipod screen flickers, but music still plays. Then it will shuy down. I ahve restored it , but still does this. My 9 year old lives on this ipod, he is going through withdrawal now!  Possibly new battery? Thanks

Might as well be a hardware defect, especially if you can still listen to music after the screen shuts down.
To make sure it is not the software, set it up as new device, without using the latest backup afterwards.

  • How to tell if old iPod needs new battery?

I have a Classic A1136 gen 5 iPod I used on a trip six years ago. I'm now taking another long trip and want to use it again.
Is there a way to test whether the battery will remain strong or is reaching it's life limit? Would someone at the Apple store have a test they can do? I don't want to have it die on me in the French countryside!
    Thanks,
    Karen

No, I haven't used it at all since the last trip. But today I used it to listen to an audiobook for an hour or so, walking, and it was fine.
    Wow.  Consider yourself extremely lucky.
So, are these easy to install?
According to the exellent step-by-step guide over at http://www.ifixit.com the battery replacement procedure for the 5G iPod Video is of moderate difficulty.  If you'd like you can purchase the replacement battery from them if you'd like, but you could probably find it cheaper still from eBay, Amazon, or other online retailers.

  • Need new notebook for law school.

    Hey guy's,
I just started my first year of law school. I want to get my first Mac. I'm a bit conflicted about whether I should get a Macbook Air or a Pro.
Portability is essential to me, my iPad just isn't cutting it anymore. A CD-Drive isn't essential to me, I could buy the superdrive if I need it, and the smaller HDD capacity isn't an issue either cause i'm planning on buying an external HDD also. All of these factors point me towards a Macbook Air but what worries me about the Air is that once I buy it I can't upgrade it later on, and this computer has to last me for at the very least the next 4 to 5 years.
Main reason I want a Mac is because, almost everyone in my class has one, they're good looking devices, like I said I love my iPad and my iPhone. Lol! All jokes aside, I mainly want a Mac because my neighbor has had his Macbook Pro for the last 5 years and the only problem he's had with it is he had to buy a new battery for it. Clearly Mac's are built to last, but that's a Pro I don't know how long Air's last. Also even though I said earlier on that the CD-Drive isn't that important to me, the fact that Pro's come with one is nice.
I asked my friends with Mac's which one I should get and it was a waste of time, my friends with Pro's told me to buy a Pro and my friends with Air's told me to get an Air.
I already have 2 PC's at home, I want to be able to use Microsoft Office ( I don't like Pages), I'm waiting till the 15th, hopefully Apple will announce new MB Pro's and that will help me decide. I want a notebook where I can download and save cases from Westlaw ( The Westlaw iPad app doesn't allow it). Also I hope to purchase the Thunderbolt display next year.
I'm sorry this is a little long it's just that I felt like I needed to give you the most information possible so that you guy's and gal's could give your best possible answer. Lastly I'm sorry if there are any grammatical errors or if this all seems a little incoherent, English isn't my first language.
Please answer I don't know what to do!
    Cheers!

I own both a Pro and Air..., I wouldnt part with my macbook Air (owned 3 of them) for anything.   Used to repair laptops, and owned well over 100 diff. varities. As a person who generally doesnt like anything,....I love the macbook Air.

    Macbook Air:
Only one moving part, ultrafast boot time SSD, the full power of laptop with the weight of an Ipad (close).
Air is the only Mac that has Haswell, 802ac wifi, and incredible 12hr. batt life in 13" I5.
Recommend buying the Air with 8gig Ram.
Pack around a regular laptop around about 20 days, then an Air, .....after that the standard laptops stays at home.
Only one moving part, the fan. No moving HD heads to crash or moving platters.  Runs a LOT cooler than anything else out there (which = durability).  Heater is a killer on a scale of 10X over that of accidents.
Also the AIR has far fewer parts to fail inside than a standard laptop.  Really only a few replacement parts
The Air in general is faster due to the SSD, also if you have a 802ac Router (i.e. Airport Extreme) then the Air over wifi is a LOT faster than ANYTHING out there
If youre going to be dragging a notebook around campus all the time, the Air makes things a lot more lovely.
The FINAL consideration of course is your application USE, and needs regarding same (see specs and video above)

  • MacBook - new battery or new notebook?

I have had my MacBook for about 4 years now. My battery dies within one hour now. Is it worth it to replace it with a new battery or should I consider purchasing a new notebook?

The model 6,1 Late 2009 and the model 7,1 Mid 2010 use an A1331 battery.

Here's installation instructions. You'll need a Tri Wing Y1 screwdriver in addition to the usual #00 Phillips screwdriver.

  • I have 1 GB RAM on an '07 MacBook Pro. 1) How do I check remaining memory? 2) I have Microsoft office 2004 - do I need to buy more RAM to upgrade to '11? 3) I need a new battery ... Is it worth the $$ to buy a new battery, RAM and Microsoft office 2011?

I have a MacBook Pro from '07 with 1 GB of memory. The battery is shot and my AppleCare has run out. I just upgraded the OS to 10.6.8. But a few questions:
1 - How do I even check how much memory I have left on this computer?
2 - How do I check how many battery cycles are left?
3 - I want to upgrade to Microsoft Office '11 because I don't have Adobe Acrobat to creat pdf's and I need to be able to do this for school... Instead of buying acrobat, I figured I would just upgrade to Office '11 because I can generate pdf's from Word. Roughly how much RAM does Office '11 take up?
4 - Does Apple still make batteries for this computer (from '07)? How much do they cost?
5 - How much does 1 more GB of memory cost?
AND lastly -- is it even worth it to spend the $ on more RAM, a new battery and Office '11?
Or does it make more sense to just get a new computer entirely? (trying to avoid this).
ANY help would be sooo appreciated! Thanks.

1 - How do I even check how much memory I have left on this computer?
If you're asking how to check to see if you need more RAM, open Activity Monitor and go to the System Memory tab, then compare page outs and page ins.  If page outs is 10% or more of page ins, you probably need more RAM.
2 - How do I check how many battery cycles are left?
There's no limit on the number of battery cycles, it's just that the more cycles you've used the more "worn out" your battery gets.  You've got a 4-year-old machine, and if it's still got the original battery, it's probably about time for a replacement battery.  You can check battery health using System Profiler...  look at the Power section under Hardware.
3 - I want to upgrade to Microsoft Office '11 because I don't have Adobe Acrobat to creat pdf's and I need to be able to do this for school... Instead of buying acrobat, I figured I would just upgrade to Office '11
You don't need Office 2011 to create PDFs.  Any application capable of printing can create PDFs on a Mac.  Just choose File -> Print, but instead of clicking the Print button in the print dialog, click the PDF button and choose Save As PDF in the menu that appears.
4 - Does Apple still make batteries for this computer (from '07)? How much do they cost?
5 - How much does 1 more GB of memory cost?
I'll "ditto" sig's answers to these.
AND lastly -- is it even worth it to spend the $ on more RAM, a new battery and Office '11?
Or does it make more sense to just get a new computer entirely? (trying to avoid this).
If Office 2004 is still working fine for you, stick with that and don't incur the costs of Office 2011.  As to the RAM, only add more if the test I mentioned above indicates that you need it.  If you buy more RAM when you don't really need it, you won't see much (if any) performance improvement.  That just leaves the battery...  and if the machine is still doing what you need it to do and you don't really need a new machine for anything, you could definitely buy a new battery and get a few more years out of it.

  • Do I need a new battery?

My MacBook is from 2007 and works great w.o being connected to the power source.  All of a sudden it will not turn on without being plugged in and it says 'replace battery now'.  Any better ideas than buying a new battery?  Do I really need a new battery?
I just upgraded to Leopard because I need that OS to log in to my work computer from home.  Could that be causing a problem?

If you have a MacBook with the removable battery you can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay.
