HP ENVY 15t Quad TouchSmart Recovery Disk

I recently purchased this computer and am trying to make recovery disks.  I ran the recovery manager and the program does not see my WD passport 1.5 TB drive.  Is the drive the issue or is there another problem?
thanks

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and product number (p/n) of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer, inside the battery compartment or on the startup BIOS screen. Please see How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? for more assistance locating this information. DO NOT include your serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and post it here for our review.
Please see HP PCs - Creating a Recovery Image on Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a USB Flash Drive (Windows... for instructions on creating your HP Recovery Media.
DVD Media;
1) Recovery Media Creation software saves a recovery image to a set of discs using blank, writable DVDs (DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R, or DVD+R DL). HP recommends using blank DVD+R discs. Use a name-brand label from a manufacturer you trust, as these recovery DVDs are very important.
2) You need at least 4 blank DVD+R discs. The Recovery Media Creation software program states how many discs are needed at the beginning of the process.
3) The Recovery Media Creation software program allows you to save only one complete recovery image on a set of discs or a USB flash drive.
4) The Recovery Media Creation software program requires an uncorrupted recovery partition (Recovery Image (D) to create the recovery image. Uncorrupted means the recovery partition has not been modified or removed.
5) The recovery image creation process takes about 30 minutes per DVD. The entire recovery set does not need to be created in one session.
6) The Recovery Media Creation software can be aborted at any time, except during the writing (burning) process, by clicking Cancel . The next time the Recovery Media Creation software program is run, it automatically starts where it last stopped.
USB Media;
1) Use a blank, high-quality USB flash drive no greater than 32GB and one that is NOT branded as Windows 8 compatible.
2) The recovery image creation software allows only one recovery image to be created. If you created a recovery image on other media, you can not create a recovery image on a USB drive.
3) The recovery image creation software requires an uncorrupted recovery partition (FACTORY_IMAGE D:\)
4) Uncorrupted means that the recovery partition has not been modified or removed.
5) The recovery image creation process takes about 30 minutes.
I have created dozens of DVD Recovery sets using Sony, TDK, and HP 16x DVD+R discs. I have also successfully created a half-a-dozen recovery USB Recovery Flash Drives using USB 2.0 32GB Patriot Axle Flash Drives... they work like a champ. It is most likely best to use USB 2.0 Flash Drives that aren't listed as Windows 8 compatible, however many USB 3.0 Flash Drive should also work. You may just have to try a few.
Hard disc drives of any kind are not supported for the creation of your Recovery Media. Please make sure to use a USB Flash Drive or DVD+R discs.

Hi  , Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j050us Quad Edition Notebook and issues with the battery not charging. Here is a link to calibrate and test the Battery. Calibration should eliminate this issue. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue. HP Battery Check in HP System Diagnostics for Windows 8, would give you details of charging and discharging.Testing and Calibrating the battery using HP System Diagnostics in Windows 8. At the starting of the Notebook, Press F2 to select F2 System Diagnostics. Then choose Component Tests, then battery. Please let me know of the test results. Thanks.

  • Envy 15t Quad hinge screw

Took my HP Envy 15t Quad TouchSmart laptop to a repair facility to have them repair the problem with the left hinge and they said it was a stripped screw and they couldn't fix, however they said this was a common problem with these laptops.   I've had this laptop for almost two years but the problem began probably a year ago with a slight noise when I closed the lid.  Got gradually worse and now it is a big problem.  What fix can HP offer me?

  • Where are the left and right action buttons on the touchpad on the HP ENVY 17t Quad TouchSmart

My new HP ENVY 17t Quad TouchSmart laptop has a touchpad, but no left or right action buttons.  How do I simulate their action.  Apparently a single tap simulates a left click, but how do I get a right click?  How do I drag a cell in a spreadsheet (to copy it) using the touchpad?  I may have to end up using a mouse.

I believe that model features a ClickPad, which doesn't have distinct left/right-click buttons but does have left/right-click areas where the buttons would normally be. See Using and Configuring the ClickPad for more info.

  • Where Are the Drivers? Envy 15t-J100 Touchsmart

If I do a search for drivers for my laptop it shows nothing. HP ENVY TouchSmart 15t-j100 Quad Edition Is this normal? Does HP sometimes take down divers for a computer? About the only thing I can think of why they don't have anything up is because of Windows 8.1??

It certainly doesn't look as if HP follows thru because there are still no drivers posted as of July 2015.  I too am looking for the drivers to my laptop.  Are they trying to force me to pay for support?Paul_Tikkanen wrote:

  • Envy 15t J000 Quad edition CTO BBV error?

HI everyone! I just got a envy 15t, and decided that I'd rather replace the standard hard drive with a SSD. I created recovery media (wasted 2 disks that failed to complete), and was going through the process of booting the SSD from the recovery media when I got "restoration Incomplete". It got through copying information from the 6 disks fine, and was (I think) in the process of installing drivers and the like, when it stopped. It gave me 3 options; save log, details, and retry. retry does nothing, as I insert the disk as instructed, but they fail to be recognized as recovery media. I've installed everything twice, and it failed twice, and the diagnostics on the computer return PASSED when run on the SSD.
The following is what came off the details page, with removal of time code. Help??!! HP phone Reps have no clue as to whats going on.
    ChkErrBB.CMD : Detect some error during PININST_BBV.
    check C:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
    or, check check C:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootMerge.log
Critical error condition was detected at BBV1...
Refer the following file if exists.
            - c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
            - c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBoot.log
Switch to 2ndCap's WinPE and show [Recovery Manager]'s Incomplete dialog.
because RM's dialog can't appear on [Start] screen in Win 8 enviroment.
customer may not notice RM already shows error dialog.
There migt be unexpected reboot during BBV Clean or Last....
The process will cause CTO panic becuase the image might not be normal...

Hello, no I ended up just purchasing Windows 8 Pro and installing a fresh version on my HP Envy Touchsmart j053cl.
I installed a new SSD in the laptop and the recovery disks simply wouldn't get past the BBV error, even after I reset the default settings on the BIOS.
I spoke with HP support and they told me the recovery disks would not work with an SSD, which was really disappointing, as I've owned many HP laptops that have supported SSD easily. They also wouldn't send me a free new set of recovery disks because mine may have been broken.
I really love my Envy 15 and think HP should always keep the customer who wants to use SSD's in mind, as they are fairly common with users who own quad core Intel laptops. Thanks.

There is nothing wrong with your computer. The flash to F.64 went fine, however the new BIOS can't locate the boot record on the hard drive. Please back-up the hard drive, including all your personal data using a Linux LiveCD and external hard drive, or connect the drive to another working computer.

  • Hp envy 15t j000 quad edition ssd upgrade: what to know

Hello everyone so im going to buy an hp envy 15t j000 quad edition for school and was looking online to see what i can upgrade on it to make it faster. Im not very knowledgable with computers so i need lots of help! While doing so i found out the hp comes with a hard disk drive (hdd) and that these are prone to damage over time and dropping, moving, ect. I learned that solid state drives (ssd) are prefered and can make the computer significantly faster and wont be as vunerable as the disk drive. Im upgrading the envy with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M Graphics with 2048MB of dedicated video memory, 15.6-inch diagonal Full HD BrightView LED-backlit Display (1920x1080), and the 12GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) option. Will any of this affect my swapping of the hdd? I also was wondering why the 8gb ddr3 system memory (2dimm) didn't affect the price for switching to the 12gb option. There isnt a difference right? also would the 24gb accelrated cache be of any use? For my last question i think i heard that i would need to clone or buy another copy of windows 8 to put on the new ssd. will there be any problems doing this? Am i in for a headache?

I went on to Tom's Hardware to looking into the 16GB memory.. there is a recent report where adding 16 gb-ddr3 ram.. will increase the life of a SSD drive by 63% compared to 4gb.. here is the link.. thought it was interesting and supported my thinking in reducing the number of HD writes.
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-ram-endurance,3475.html
thought I'd share it with you.. what do you think..
Did you find the 1tb-SSD? try newegg.

  • I'm trying to install a new hard drive on my Touchsmart but the recovery disks won't boot.

The Touchsmart 300-1120 is only 1.5 years old and it's hard drive is already fried.  I bought a new hard drive, ordered the recovery disks, and it still won't boot.  I've changed the boot order to go from the CD drive first, but all it does is click and then give the same error message it gave when the fired hard drive was in.  I checked the diagnostic, and it can see the new hard drive...it just won't boot.

Sometimes they do work - i've done it before.  I have a late 2008 Macbook Uni and used the install dvd of my 2009 Macbook White and it worked.
Why not just clone your hard drive?  It'll save you a lot of time doing a clone rather than doing a clean install.
Unless you're having issues with your old set up or  your old hard drive is dead.
You can download Carbon Copy Cloner - install your new hard drive in a external usb enclosure (around $10) and clone fromt here then test it before you install it in your Macbook.
Once you've done the swap, you can install your old hard drive in the USB enclosure and use it as a backup drive.
    Good luck

  • Can Envy K203TX recovery disks be used to recover an Envy K204TX?

Hi, The first thing i did when i got my Envy K203TX notebook, was create a set of recovery disks. Then I discovered that the notebook has several issues.HP sent me an on-site tech, and the tech said these issues were caused by several faulty hardware (display panel, motherboard, and the case has a bad battery lock). He helped me return the notebook as DOA. The problem is, HP store couldn't get me another K203TX, I paid like $150 more and upgraded to an Envy K204 TX. I now have the 204TX and this notebook has no issues at all, it's as good as it can get.My recovery disk set from the Envy K203TX is still with me. Question> Can I use these disks to recover my K204TX in case disaster strikes? Or shall I throw away these disks and create a fresh set of recovery disks for this computer?

The 203 has 15.6" diagonal FHD anti-glare WLED-backlit (1920 x 1080) http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04529223 The 204 has 15.6" diagonal FHD WLED-backlit touch screen (1920 x 1080) http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04529254 I would save the old disks but make a new set from the new laptop as it has touch screen. REO

  • HP Envy dv6 7398ca. win 8 64 bit. During recovery disk 4, get 3f0 error

    Hi,
I have a brand new HP Envy dv6 7398ca.win 8 64 bit.  I had a problem that caused me to do a system refresh. After that, Windows update and MS Office would not update/install. Talked to Tech Support, they wanted me to go thru every service and started task to see if one was corrupt (requires reboots and update and recovery from win Update). Anyway, decided to do a system recovery/system reset. I had recovery disks and files backed up, so thought I should be fine.
During Recovery (from Win 8, recovery manager) when disk 4 was inserted, it gets to 56% and then stops with the 'dest drive not connected' msg. The system hangs and have to power off. Tried a couple times, then went to sys reset.  got to disk 4 again and then 3F0 msg with 'boot device not found, install os on hdd'. did quick check on hdd, all ok. Am running a full check now, but takes 5 hours(geesh, like back in the 80's again).
I can't believe the hdd is bad, because it goes through format, and 4 disks of loading files ok, and keeps stopping on the same spot.
Any ideas, before I finish waiting the 5 hours (1tb drive). Any ideas for after it finishes the test (I'm betting it's okay).
    Thanks so much!

    Hello socalfun64,
    You’re getting an error 3f0.
Here are steps that Big_Dave  wrote that might help with the problem.
The below solution may correct this problem:
Download UEFI Shell x64, rename the file to shellx64.efi, move it to FAT/FAT32-formatted USB-flash. Label the USB flash drive something that you will quickly recognize.
Insert the USB flash and then power up the HP UEFI enabled laptop and tap the ESC key to allow you to display the Start up menu.
    Select Boot device Options (F9)
    Select Boot from EFI file
Select the USB flash drive and hit enter
You should now see Shell.efi. Hit enter.
Ignore all the screen information that scrolls down on the screen
Once in the shell enter bcfg boot dump to see current boot manager entries. Option 00 should be the hard drive or SSD, option 01 the USB drive (UEFI) and option 02 the Internal CD/DVD Rom drive (UEFI)
This posted HP document will give you some ideas on how to remove, reorder and add the entries in the EFI boot manager. Review #3
If you’re not able to correct the problem, you may have to send the laptop in for repair.
Here is a link to a number to call HP and see what options they have to repair the laptop.
Let me know how everything goes
    Have a good day.

  • ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Hard Drive Thickness

I'm looking to replace the hard drive in my ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition with an SSD. HP's site currently does not list the thickness the the preinstalled hard drive. I would prefer to get an ssd that does not leave any extra unused space in the computer. What is the thickness of the hard drive installed in the ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition so I can upgrade to an equally sized ssd? Thank you.

    Hi,
It's very safe to use 7mm thick, as mentioned in my first reply.

  • Replace HDD with SSD for HP ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Notebook PC

I'd like to buy a HP ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Notebook PC and a HP v300a 120GB SATA Solid State Drive with Upgrade Kit.
Now the SSD has a 7mm thickness.
My question is if I can replace the HDD with this SSD? How thick is the HDD bay in the laptop.
If it's more than 7mm will the SSD move inside it?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The old HDD on your machine is a bit thicker but with at least 4 screws I don't think new SSD will floating around in the case. I actually put new SSD in one of my laptop (not HP) and no problem BUT I don't move this laptop around. If needed, blue tac may help.

  • WLAN for HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC

I just purchased a HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC with Windows 7 (February 2014).
It comes with 802.11bgn 1×1 WLAN module, which is not satisfactory so I would like to upgrade the WLAN to an Intel 7260ac.
According to the user manual, the following two parts are the only WLAN whitelisted by the BIOS:
    #1:
    Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 802.11 ac 1×1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter
    Spare part number = 710662-001
    #2:
Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260 802.11 bgn 2×2 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter
    Spare part number = 717384-001
I cannot find any of these models anywhere! I do find a 710661-001 on Amazon (which would be great if the BIOS accepts it! and good price too at about $35).
Could someone tell me if I can put this WLAN card (710661-001 on Amazon) or where to buy the HP approved #1 and/or #2 card listed above?
    Thank you!

Hi Arnaud_, welcome to the HP Forums. Unfortunately if the parts are not in the user manual I cannot guarantee they will work. You can try to buy it from HP PartSurfer.
