HP envy 17 dual bays

I have a HP Envy and I would like to install a SSD in one of the bays. I have followed a post on how to do it.
The post talks about a HP Envy dv7t-7300. I can't find "dv7t-7300" as a model number anywhere. Where do I find the model number?
Also what SSD do I buy, sata , sata II, or sata III?

Connecting OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro Dual-Bay (RAID) Enclosure help setup

System info:
Enclosure: OWC Mercury Elite-Pro Dual Bay (RAID Enclosure)
Comps: Mac Pro & MacBook Pro 13"

Connected enclosure via firewire800 with 2x 2tb hitachi drives.
So I picked up an Open Box version of essentially this enclosure:

(the differences is, the light is not in the direct center of the enclosure as pictured and the little blue switch is not on the logicboard under the fan like it was pictured in the instructional booklet).
Now going through the instructional manual, and wanting to set it up as a RAID 0 i noticed that on my enclosure there wasnt a place on the board for it to switch it to proper type of configuration i wanted.
And their site is a little messy (imho) to find the proper info and so many variants of their enclosures.
So heres what my enclosure board looks like:

I put two 2TB drives in the enclosure (2 Hitachi Deskstar 7200s).
plug it in via FireWire800 to my MacBookPro and get the initialize the drive alert and thats where iam at. I havent set up this particular enclosure before so im not sure if its all software controlled now and the best way to go about configuring it the way I want it to (RAID 0 for now).
and how to go about in the future changing it if i say wanted RAID 1 or JBOD.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks, though the problem has been resolved courtesy of Loudspeakermusic's link.
The problem is that the manual doesnt state anything about this particular drive.
As you can see from the image:
mine does not have the actual jumper settings like indicated of Page 5 of the PDF Manual (the same Manual i got with the actual enclosure).
So the firmwire utility helped as I was able to create the RAID or RAID 1 or SPAN/JBOD properly.
According to OWC if there drive was over 1TB in size I must click on the Enable Large Disk box to allow me to use 2x2TB drives then once I set the firmware to RAID 0, i can format them properly in Disk Utility.
So far I'm running the 2x2TB (4TB) in RAID 0 on my enclosure fine and can transfer just well.
Like Loudspeaker stated, i have to have the drive directly connected and not daisychained as I did not know why I wasnt able to change the firmware settings.

2. Is it possible to boot off the SSD and will it require a boot loader from the HDD?

Yes it has a mSATA port.
I think so but it won't be easy to set it all up.

ENVY Dv7 dual SSD's win8 sees only drive 0, drive 1 not seen.

I have an ENVY DV7-7243cl laptop, I replaced the original 1TB HDD with my seagate 750 GB solid state hybrid drive, installed windows, no problems there, however yesterday I installed a second SSD (crucial 512GB). The BIOS sees both drives, but windows only sees the 750GB boot drive, if I put the new SSD on external USB windows sees the drive and allows me to initialize it. I'm not sure why two SSD's won't work together. Is there something missing a driver perhaps etc... I have the latest BIOS version F24

SeriTek/2ME4-E Not Compatible With Oxford Bridge - Dual Core

After weeks of extensive testing I was able to confirm; the SeriTek/2ME4-E is not compatible with Oxford Chipset 924, or 934, (OWC Quad Enclosures). The incompatibilty issue is related to my Dual Core 2.0, (perhaps other Dual Core models as well).
After weeks of back n forth, FirmTek support was not totally co-operative. Had to push toward resolution, which I later confirmed myself. Flashing to different firmware, formatting a NEW system drive, the whole 9 yards.
It appears compatibility design is geared mostly toward Mac Pro systems. Someone here pointed to the 'Bridge' as a possible 'culprit'. In my situation it's definitely true. I've taken all my drives out of OWC Quad enclosures, and will sell them on Ebay. I'll stay with DIRECT SATA connection thru dedicated dual bay enclosures, and continue using the SeriTek/2ME4-E.
This issue may not be common to others, but thought I'd post this information anyway.

From the FirmTek Web Page; "Third Party Enclosure Compatibility - FirmTek cannot guarantee compatibility with third party enclosures." Somewhere there's also mention of 'Oxford' The tech also repeated over and over it could be the enclosure bridge.
It definitely WAS.
I tried one of these; http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MESATATBE/ I REALLY LIKE IT , and for $27 you can't beat it, (getting 2 more). For my money, I don't care how much noise the fan could make, as long as it COOLS those babies. Many other OWC enclosures don't have fans. Selling all my bridged enclosures on Ebay to recoop some $$
About the SeriTek/2ME4-E; I'm stuck with it, but it's FAST, so I'll make it work. I even picked up another 2 Port FirmTek card on Ebay for $40!
I'm keeping this Dual Core running as long as I can. No intention, No money for Mac Pro.
With 7-8 large capacity drives with so much valuable data, and soooo much $$$ invested, this was my only solution.

*Internal Bay Drive or External Lacie?

Hi All
Need some advice, which one to get...
Buying a macPro and was wondering about the pro's and cons of an extra bay drive. If i get an extra bay drive I cannot take just my drive and work else where unless they have a macPro. I just need advise should I get an extra bay for the macPro or get an external Lacie. I will be using the mac for editing media in FCP.

Why not both? You are going to want to use your drive bays, and you are going to want external drives for backup and storage and off-line. Only thing I question is whether to go with LaCie.
Also, I prefer external SATA whenever possible. You can add a dual bay SATA case and PCI bracket for two unused SATA ports (hidden away). Pick up NewerTech kit $24.
Or there are FW/SATA cases that use SATA drives.

Steps installing SSD as second drive or bay in P775

Hi all,I have toshiba satellite P775 for couple of years and very happy with it. I am pleasantly surprise that it came with an open second drive bay drive. The SSD price has been coming down, so took this opportunity to install SSD as my primary drive and then move my old/existing drive to the second bay. Items needed.1. Installl software that can image disk or partition to my new SSD. I choose freeware, EaseUS Todo backup.2. Get 2.5" Sata SSD drive. My old/existing drive has 2 partitions: one 100GB for OS & apps and the rest is for my data. My SSD drive needs to be bigger than my OS & apps partition so that I don't have to reinstall my software.3. I bought part K000122700 (second hhd cable adapter) from partstore.com for $40 after tax & shipping. It took 2-3 weeks to arrive because it's special order.4. I also need a very very very sharp utility knife. The cable on part K000122700 is a bit short thus I have to cut off a bit of plastics that are in the way. WARNING: may void warranty, and risky...blah blah...5. Screwdriver.6. Window OS CD. Steps:1. Install freeware EaseUS Todo backup.2. Backup my existing/old drive3. Power down PC, remove power plug & remove battery. Open both bay (primary and secondary)4. Add the new hard disk adapter, K000122700. Try to maneuver it to fit into the secondary bay. Figure out what/which plastic are in the way. Protect the cables and board around that area with thick piece of cardboard before removing the bits of plastic casing. Keep the new adapter safe while plastic trimming with sharp utility knife.5. Install the new adapter along with new SSD drive in second bay.6. Close bays, add battery and restart machine.7. Using EaseUS Todo backup, copy the OS, software/apps & settings into new SSD. I kept my data in seperate partition in my old drive. Data stayed with the old drive. I've also added a bit of filler made of rolled cardboard to secure my secondary drive better. Look at picture.13. Close all covers. Add battery & power.14. When first startup, it'll ask for boot from a windows CD. Then do a repair.15. Remove CD.16. Restart. Now the startup with new SSD. Everything was a fine for me. The tougest part for me was removing the bits of plastics (step 4) because I was afraid of cutting some other cables or board nearby. Step 14 was also scarry because it took some time for the OS disk to do the repair. I also need to unactivate software license (eg: malwarebytes, norton, ....) in my old drive and reactive them in my new SSD. Results:P775-S7100 - 17.3" - Core i5 2450M - Windows 8 Pro with Windows Media Center 64-bit - 6 GB RAM. (I have updated the OS two years ago).I bought PNY Optima SSD 240GB firmware n0530a, not the fastest disk, but it's on sale for $60. Total cost of upgrade is ~$100 (SSD+2nd HD ribbon/adapter). Decent price to pay for all the performance gain with lower run temperature too. Its like getting a brand new machine with lots of horsepower (though with same cpu). Very responsive, faster boot time, faster application launch & load. Disk performance is a bottleneck that can be easily solve with cheap SSD. The toshiba dual bay makes the expansion easy. I use freeware, CrystalDiskMark to test performance. BIG IMPROVEMENT........... Attached are my pictures.

Netlander, First off thank you for taking the time to pen this post about your intall, very imformative. Figured I add my two cents for what it's worth for anybody else thinking about attempting this. I have the P775-S7148. My computer is a couple years old and was overdue for a refresh, figured while I was at it I would do the swap to SSD hard drive. Stuff I ordered:Like you I ordered the little sata/Board/ribbon cable part: K000122700, I also order a second hard drive caddy that comes with 4 screws off of Ebay, and a screw pack for the computer, 500GB Crucial MX200(which comes with Acronis), and a Sata/usb cable. I chose to do the factory refresh, then clone method, easy business. 1. Make a list of all your programs, verication keys etc and gather up all the software you'll want to re-install.2. Back-up all your important files.3. On the P775 hold down 0 when you start the machine and follow the instructions. It'll boot into the Safe Mode screen, select start normally and it will take you to the screen you'll need. follow the instructions.4. Once windows is re-installed, I installed my anti virus, and downloaded Acronis.5. Next I plugged in my new external hard drive into the usb cable and cloned the drive. After that it's standard business of install your software updates etc. Computer Install:1. Unplug power, remove battery.2. Remove the L shaped center panel and the 2nd removalable panel next to it.(At this point I studied the computer case and the little sata board that was ordered and it was obvious this part was meant to be installed in this computer. So instead of cutting plastic I opted to open the case up and install the card properly with two screw from the screw pack I ordered.)3. Remove every screw you see on the bottom of the computer, there's a silver screw underneath the primary hard drive that needs to come out to remove the keyboard. 4. You'll need to remove the keyboard, start by using a thin knife and pri from the outside forward corners closest to the screen it will lift up and pop out.5. Disconnect the touch pad ribbon cable.6. The case just un-snaps from there, easy business. Be gentle though.7. Since you have case open might as well clean your fan and cooling fins, the fan is removed via one screw.8. Once you have the top case open you'll see a small space where this little card you purchased needs to be installed. Route the ribbon cable through the little slot it needs to live in and connect it to the motherboard.9. Ok put your computer back togethor, don't forget to lock the keyboard ribbon cable or all your key will decide not to work very well, yup I screw that up.10. Next install your new hard drive in the new caddy, take your old hard drive an install it into the secondary slot, it locks inplace just as Toshiba designed it, the screw on the hard drive caddy have slots they lock into. No need for spacers, both covers have built in spacers that also prevent the hard drives from moving away from the sata connectors. Your done! Install your software, do the million windows updates, and your golden. My computer runs better than it ever has, this SSD config is the way to go. Love it. Low power on USB port for external hard drive

Hi all!
I'm new here and I have some question about my brand new hybrid - HP Envy x2.
Couple days ago i found an issue that usb ports are powered by from motherboard even when tablet with dock is turned off or in hibernation mode. This is problematic when I leave device with plugged usb hub, external HD, speakers (powered from usb port) and mouse. After 8 hours in work when I go back home I saw that battery is about 10-15% lower than before leaving Envy x2. I disabled USB charge mode in BIOS, but after that I have problem with working of my external HD.
When I try to attach hard drive to computer and then I try to turn it on nothing happens - looks like system (Windows 8.1) can't boot. But after immediate unplugging HDD from USB system goes to procedure of starting. I also tried to plug Toshiba HD after turning on my Envy x2 and being in desktop, but nothing happens. Light on HD is blinking, I can hear from it sound like clicking (trying to start?). Also HD is visible in Device Manager but not in My Computer (as additional partition).
I have tried to change boot options in BIOS by positioning of devices (priority to boot from CD ROM, HDD, OS etc.) but did not fixed problem.
After couple of tests provided to found why my HD did not work properely in disabled USB charge mode I know that USB port did not give minimum value of power from supply. I found cable with one plug on one side, and with two plugs on other side (like "Y" type). Then i plugged one end into first USB port, then second end in second USB port and finally - last end of cable to m HD and booooom! It works!
Here is my question: Is there any ability to change that kind of power supply on USB ports? I want to power mu external hard drive from one USB port, not from two. I have USB hub but don't want to use two USB ports (on the opposite positions of docking station) and additional USB cable. I have the most recent BIOS (F12) and all fresh drivers installed on my computer.
Any solutions?

I am not going to take credit for this. I had a similar problem, but all of my USB ports stopped working for EVERYTHING! USB Hard Drives Keep Disconnecting or Not Responding

Hi,
This is a long post - but one that I hope someone can offer advice on.
The Hardware
Mac Pro running OSX 10.8 (but this has happened on all versions of the OS i.e. 10.6/.7 etc)
3 x Internal SATA Hard Drives - All working perfectly.
External Drives:
2 x Western Digital My Book 1TB USB Hard Drives
1 x Seagate 750GB Hard Drive with USB2 connectivity
2 x IcyBox Dual Bay USB2 hard Drive enclosures using JMicron Chipsets - these enclosures have 2 x 1TB Western Digital Green in each (totaling 4 TB across the 2 enclosures).
D-Link 7 Port USB2 Hub
The Problem
- USB Hard Drives connected to the Mac are ejected from the system without notice and at random times AND/OR
- The external hard drive remains mounted, but when trying to write to the drive/partitions, Finder throws an error message up saying the operation cannot be completed - error code -50.
- Time Machine: TM will back up successfully several times, before eventually throwing an error up that it cannot create the folders required on the drive.
- The only way to be able to use the drives again is either remount the drive, or in some case, it is required to completely power the drive down and then reconnect.
Re-creating the problem
I have honestly not found a sure-fire way of replicating the problem. It seems completely random. It happens when I am actually sat at the computer, but it also happens when I am away from the computer.
In the past - my Time Machine hard drive has been one of the Western Digital MyBook drives. I also used the second MyBook for SuperDuper backups (extra redundancy). The 4TB drives in the IcyBox enclosures have been used to backup my ripped movie collection.
Recently however - I decided to have 2 of the 1TB drives in the IcyBox enclosures to be TM and SuperDuper backups. I have however reverted TM back to one of the Western Digital drives, purely for testing purposes. SuperDuper is backing up to one of the 1TB drives in the IcyBox.
I am trying various things to see if I can find the issue, but it is such a random event that it is taking ages to even come close to find a problem. Sometimes the drives will stay active for a few days, sometimes only a few hours, even minutes.
Theories
I have several theories as to why my USB drives continually disconnect.
1. The D-Link USB Hub.
Could connecting the drives through the hub be causing the problem? I don't really see how, unless it is a documented case that D-Link USB hubs do not play nice with OSX? To try and rule this out I have connected the current Time Machine back up drive (Western Digital MyBook) directly to the USB port on the back of the computer. The SuperDuper (IcyBox enclosure) drive is currently connected through the D-Link hub. I have removed all the other drives from the enclosures - so at present I have only 2 external drives connected (1 x 1TB Western Digital MyBook, 1 x 1TB Western Digital Green inside one of the IcyBox dual-bay enclosures - connected through D-Link Hub).
2. JMicron Chipset
I have done a bit of research on the internet and there are a few indications that perhaps JMicron SATA-to-USB controller chipsets found in a lot of external hard drive enclosures (including the dual bay IcyBox external enclosures that I have) do not play nice with OSX. If the JMicron chipsets in the 2 IcyBox enclosures is a problem - would that cause issues with other USB devices on the USB bus off the Mac? (i.e. can the JMicron chipset in the enclosures cause devices such as the WD MyBook drives which I assume use a non-JMicron chipset, to experience similar failures?)
3. Green Hard Drives
As I have said, I have 4 Western Digital Green 1TB hard drives inside the IcyBox Dual Bay Enclosures. Could the fact that these drives are 'Green' be causing a problem? They do go to sleep after x number of minutes, but they do wake up when required. But could on the occasion when I have problems, could this be caused by the 'Green' feature interrupting OSX in waking the drives? Coupled with JMicron chipset, could this be compounding the issue?
Possible Solutions
I am prepared to spend money on replacement drives and/or enclosures etc - but I would hate to spend x amount of money and have the same problem. So I am hoping to get some advice on what drives/enclosures are more than likely to work flawlessly with OSX.

I just opened this drive up in Finder. I heard the drive wake up, but when I came to copy a file over (tried various file sizes) - I got the error -50 message.

A few common BSOD messages I've had:
STOP: 0x0000003B didn't get the string code
STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00000000000c08a2....) didn't get rest of string
STOP: 0x0000001A (0x0000000000041790, 0xFFFFFA8008CD2190, 0x000000000000FFFF, 0x0000000000000000) - Memory management... got this the last 2 times it crashed
Although there have been a few others. This one seemed to be a one off while trying to install Windows Updates)

The crashes seem to be at random, but most often they occur while browsing the internet. For example I can be watching movies or tv shows through XBMC for hours and it runs perfect. Then I'll load up an internet browser and it will crash not long after.
Although the last crash I had was while watching a TV Show in XBMC. My computer had not been on very long, and it was only 10 minutes into the show. Although I was running jdownloader in the background. I also have AVG 2012 Free Edition running permanently.
Things I've tried that didn't work:
I've disabled the USB3.0 drives and the problem still occured. I thought they might have been the issue as they cause my computer to freeze on boot or in the BIOS (or boot EXTREMELY slowly) when it's switched on. Although the second I switch it off everything continues as normal. Would like to fix this issue too, but compared to the BSOD it's really a nothing issue.
I've updated my video card, USB 3.0 and Ethernet drivers.
I've upped the voltage on the RAM (not by much).
I've fiddled with some of the Turbo etc. settings for CPU.
I updated to the most recent BIOS.
I switched web browsers. Originally I had Chrome and each crash seemed to happen while using it, so I went to Firefox and it didn't change at all.
I switched my RAM around (Blue slots to black and vice-versa)

I've removed 2 sticks of RAM. When/if it crashes again I'll swap in the other two sticks. Unfortunately it can run for ages before it crashes, so it's hard to tell whether an attempted fix has worked until it crashes and I know for certain that it hasn't.
Im pretty sure RAM is the most likely cause of the problem. But the PC was running fine up until the last 3 weeks or so. I got a BSOD a few weeks back which seemed to be a one off. Then a week or so later another one. Now it's happening daily.. sometimes 3 or 4 times. I would google the codes back when they happened and was lead toward different possibilities.. which is why I tried Chrome, Drivers and unplugging USB devices. Although obviously RAM seemed to be the most common possibility.

When did you start to see this crashing start?
Try running >>Memtest86<< on the RAM individually.
Try to uninstall jdownloader.

External hard drive doesn't mount

I have a Thermaltake dual bay with two 1.5TB hard drives set up but the RAID got corrupted. I re-partitioned one of the hard drives so that I can just do a copy but somehow the other drive was not working...guess it didn't see the RAID. I deleted the RAID "slice" and not the drive just shows disk2s2 on the partition and won't mount. Using the iskysoft freeware I can recover the files it seems but it's $90. Is there a way to mount the drive?

Run Disk Utility to copy a partition disk2s2 image dmg.
Then connect this image in Disk Utility and try to repair the disk.
If it does not use a professional data recovery software such as Disk Drill (you can check whether the recovered files in the free version) or DataResсue.
Do not write to the disk you want to restore!

Transferring my files from my 1.1 Mac pro to my new 5k iMac FireWire to lighting?

i Just ordered the replacement for my antique 1.1 version Mac Pro which is loaded with external FireWire hard drives as well as 3 internal 1 and 2 tearabyte and the one tearabyte SSD boot drive it is of course on 10.7.5 it also has a pair of apple cinama displays on from 2006 and the other from 2011
i just bought the machine below picking it up in a week and with it a pair of FireWire 800 to lighting adapters ....
my thought was to transfer my important stuff to the fusion drive via a FireWire 800 to lighting2 cable and the Apple transition software and then get a lighting 2 housing that will take the 3 internal hard drives and the internal SSD then chain my large external fire wire 800 drives and my FireWire brueray drive off of it with one of the adapters
does all this sound ok? I have not been able to find a lighting 2 drive case the takes the old mac pro drive sleds but can a good 4 or 6 bay lighting 2 extrrnal drive case be recomended?
as the old Mac Pro has windows XP sp3 as its boot camp I know it can not make the move.
I do have win 7 pro 64 as my boot camp on my mid 2009 Mac book pro already running Yosemite with all of the boot camp applications and data on an external F800 two tear drive from laci so my first thought was to use the orignal win 7 distrub DVD to create a new boot camp partition on the 3tera fusion drive but I am wondering if it would be better to set up the SSD in its new home as dedicated to the boot camp stuff with the existing win external drives....
Sorry for for all the questions but I am some one who made the transition from 400k to 800k to the first mac+ 5 meg hard drives to the SCCI world then to FireWire 400 then to FireWire 800 and I am hoping that this hopefully last migration for a while with be at least semi painless.... And as I near 70 I am not quite the geek I once was.

i was up until 4AM reading reviews and studying features and prices of every thunderbolt box i could find and in the end ordered the thunder bay 4 from new egg for $516.99 including shipping
as of today i found nothing better on the market for a thunderbolt 4 bay box i could have saved perhaps $35 by getting 2 highpoint dual bay boxes but the loss of versatility and perceived quality crossed that option off the list so OWC thunder bay 4 it is . it should get here just in time too

Upgrading DVD - Add SATA card & Drives -SIMPLE

I just thought I would pass on my successful upgrading and expansion of my Dual 2.0A G5. I'm not endorsing the following products - just want to identify what worked in my scenario.
I bought an internal Pioneer DVR-111D DVD burner (16X and Dual Layer capable) for under $50 new. I followed the owner's manual that came with the G5 for replacing your optical drive. The instructions are clear and straight forward. The only thing you must do first is pop out the disk tray on the new drive using the paper clip emergency eject hole (before you install the drive). Then lift up on the front plate/door to remove this plastic piece so that the tray will open and extend out of the bay without hitting the computer frame. Out with the old 4X and in with the New 16X/DL. Booted up, called up System Profile and there was my new drive. Burned a 4.17GB test disk at 16X and all worked A-OK. No drivers, no configuring, Notta. Just Plug and Play.
Next, I bought OWC's Serial ATA 2-Channel PCI controller card, also OWC's dual bay external SATA HD enclosure box and two Maxtor 300 GB SATA hard drives. At $110 per 300 GB internal drive price, I've decided to archive all my paying video projects to their own individual drives and store them. Between the drive and original tapes I'm covered and the price for storage only gets better.
Again I followed the G5 owner's manual for installing a PCI card. Here is the first snag to watch for IF your G5 has the PCI-X slots where Slots 2 & 3 are 64 bit, 100 MHz and Slot 4 is 64 bit, 133 MHz speed. This OWC SATA card was recognized in Sys Profile in Slot 4 but would not display the drives in the ATA Bus profile nor in Finder. I moved the card to Slot 3 and the 100 MHz speed was apparently more compatible. Sys Profile will identify the PCI Card as a SCSI type but don't let that throw you off. The ATA Bus Sys Profile recognizes two additional busses - one for each Maxtor drive ID'd as disk 2 and disk 3. Your DVD drive will also be listed as an ATA bus component.
The Maxtor internal drives I have come with two pair of jumper pins next to the cabling plugs. The drive arrived in a non-jumpered setting. You need to move the jumper over to the left pair to enable 1.5 Gb/s SATA transfer speeds. Its labeled J4 and also 1.5 Gb/s.
Lastly, this one bit me twice before I solved the mystery. I only had ONE drive show up in System Profile and on the Finder window initially. After much cable swapping, port swapping, rebooting, I went back INSIDE the dual bay enclosure to check cable connections. I noticed the data cable plug on the no-show drive was slightly askew due to other wiring pressing against it. I lined it back straight, powered everything up and that drive showed up now, BUT the other drive disappeared. Back in the box, yep, I bumped that ribbon cable plug on the other drive. Lined it back up and all works fine now. Watch out for these very "position sensitive" data cable plugs.
Summarizing: Even with the SATA card and dual external bay and the two new drives, there is NO configuring (other than giving a name to your new hard drives using Disk Utility). Truly PLUG & PLAY! The SATA card comes with a disk containing the instructions for setting up your 2 Channel card and dual drives in a RAID configuration. Very detailed. I'm not running RAIDs so I did not perform this very extensive procedure. Not sure if this would even be necessary once Disk Utility recognizes the new drives and DU has the ability to configure RAID drives much easier. Lastly, since I do a lot of video work and especially now in HD, larger drives are a necessity, BUT data speeds are also important with the high demands of realtime playback in FCP HD. I decided to go with the SATA bus speeds and drives rather than USB or Firewire drives to match the capabilities of my two internal SATA drives. If you plan to work in HD its probably a better way to go.

How do I ingest files from an external drive?

New to Prelude- I'm not able to locate, within the ingest dialog, the USB3 drive on which the files are located. I copied them from the DSLR (D600, mov wrapper.) I see my HD, just not the external. Am I missing something really obvious? Thanks.

We haven't similiar extertal device in hand currently. So we tried to reproduce the issue with an external device ORICO 8628SUSC-PRO dual bay hard drive dock. It has eSATA (3GB/s) and USB (2.0) Ports. And connected it to a Mac Tower with 10.9.2 OS.
After tried several times with different capacity 500GB, 2.0TB, 4.0TB, etc, the hard drives could all be recognized by Prelude CC without any issue through eSATA and USB connection.
We also tried to connect a Synology 4 bay disk station, but failed. Because it only could be attached with kinds of external hard disks.
How did you connect your OWC device, by eSATA cable or USB? I noticed that your HDD has much higher interface than ours (your device interface: eSATA 6.0GB/s, USB 3.0; our device interface: eSATA 3GB/s and USB 2.0). I’m not sure whether the issue is caused by this. We are still working on this issue. Will keep you update.

Problems booting from OSX DVD and External FW HDD

I've been trying recently to take a Dual-Bay Firewire Harddrive unit running a Oxford Semiconductor OXFW911 Chipset. I have two 250GB Hard drives and on one of these I have it Partitioned into 3 partitions. One is my Scratch Partition, one is the Restore of a DVD Install Disc and the last is a "Pre-Installed" version of OSX. I want to be able to boot from the Install DVD partition and the "Pre-Installed" Partition. I have successfully Imaged the Install DVD Partition and was able to boot from that partition once to install OSX on a computer without a DVD drive.
Problem now is that I can't boot from the partition, or I should say, I select it from the Sys Prefs and it will pass the grey screen to a the blue background and just get hung up. It never displays the dialog to select a language to begin the install.
I also can not boot from the Install DVD. It will show up in the Startup Disk in Sys Prefs but always ends up hanging.
I've tried booting using "Option" and it displays my Internal HD and then two icons for the Install DVD Partition on the External FW Drive. Neither one allows for me boot up.
Any ideas for what I may be missing?

It appears that if the Partition with OSX was installed from anything besides the Restore Disc, the Powerbook won't boot to it.
I think this is ridiculous, and if I've went wrong somewhere, someone please correct me.
