HP Envy 4500 connection issues

Hi. My Envy 4500 all the sudden will not print, becuase a message on my mac printer icon reads, 'Printer not connected." It HAS been connected....I don't know what happened. The driver appears to be missing from my computer, too. The printer itself, which is wireless, is lit up, so it is on. Ideas? Thank you.

Hello @bogarrity, and thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I see you're running into connectivity and software issues.  I'd be happy to help!
I am posting an HP Support documents below that will show you how to find which version of the Mac operating system you are using:
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend reinstalling the HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer Drivers.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thanks again for posting on the HP Forums!

Just setting up my new printer, and am strugggling to print over wifi. I can print frm my Ipad if it isconnected to theprinters wifi but not from my laptop, and neither through the router. As I am living student halls Im unsure whether that will be an issue altough the printer seems to connect to the wifi fine, and shows up on the network. When i print iteither says the printer is not connected, or that the printer is out of paper- which it defo isnt. As I am using the hp instant ink service its really important that it is connected properly to the internet

    Hi Ames45,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you are trying to connect your Envy 4500 printer to the wireless network that is available in your student dorm.
Please check with your dorm advisor as many colleges and universities don't allow printers to be connected and/or used over their wireless networks.  I'm not sure if having your own router connected to their network will allow you to connect the printer that way so the printer can have its own active internet connection.  I have included the Why Do I Have to Connect to the Internet to Sign Up for HP Instant Ink? document which has a couple of FAQs that addresses how often the printer needs to be connected to the internet and what to do if the printer will not be able to connect to the internet for an extended period of time.
If your school allows the printer to be connected to their wireless network, I would recommend that you set a manaul IP address and manual DNS servers.  I have included a link to another post that has the steps, with screen shots on how to do this. Please do not worry that the screen shots show a Photosmart 7510 printer, the steps are the same.
If you prefer to speak to someone about this, please call HP’s Cloud Services at 1-855-785-2777 if you live in the USA/Canada region. If you live outside the USA/Canada region please click here to find the Technical Support number for your country/region.

  • HP Envy 4500 printing issue

I am unable to print to my HP ENVY 4500 with a wireless connection. I have had it set up and working since Christmas, it says it is connected to my home network with excellent signal strenght and both laptop and desktop recognize it. Jobs go to the printer que but the I get and error printer offline message. I have ran the HP scan doctor program that came with the printer and it keeps sending me to wireless set up page.
**Intersting note is when I select the printer from my desktop control panel ( there is a green check mark and it says it is ready) and look at properties there is no IP address under the location setting.

  • ENVY 4500 CONNECTS TO WIFI, BUT WON'T PRINT

I AM USING A MAC LAPTOP RUNNING OSX 10.7.4.  I ORIGINALLY INSTALLED THIS WIRELESS PRINTER USING THE WIZARD AND I HAD NO PROBLEMS PRINTING UNTIL I CHANGED MY ROUTER.  NOW, EVEN THOUGH I PRINTED OUT THE WIRELESS NETWORK TEST RESULTS PAGE WHICH SHOWS THAT THE PRINTER WAS SUCCESSFULY SETUP, IT WILL NO LONGER PRINT.  I HAVE NEVER USED A UBS CABLE TO CONNECT TO MY LAPTOP.  I'VE READ NUMEROUS COMMENTS IN THE FORUM AND TRIED THEIR SUGGESTIONS, BUT I CANNOT GET IT TO PRINT EXCEPT WHEN I CREATE A DOCUMENT AND E-MAIL IT TO THE PRINTER WHICH IS CUMBERSOME TO SAY THE LEAST.  WHEN I TRY TO PRINT THE NORMAL WAY,  I GET A MESSAGE THAT "THE PRINTER IS NOT CONNECTED".  BUT IT IS CONNECTED AND THE WIFI  ICON LIGHT ON THE PRINTER IS A STEADY BLUE LIGHT INDICATING IT'S ON THE NETWORK.  I SIMPLY CANNOT FIGURE IT OUT AFTER HOURS OF TROUBLESHOOTING.  PLEASE HELP!

  • HP Envy 5530 Connection Issues

    Hello,
I just purchased the HP Envy 5530 and have everything set up, however I cannot print anything. The printer is connected to our wi-fi, and the computer is a desktop that is directly connected. We have multiple devices in the house all connected to the same wi-fi, and none of them will print anything.
I have run the install program multiple times, and everytime the same thing happens. The printer shows it is connected. I enter the IP address and the installation program searches for it, but can never find anything. Same thing when trying from a mobile device or laptop. Searching but with no results.
    PLEASE HELP!

    Hello,
Please try the below steps to check if there is connectivity between the printer and the computer ( wireless).
     > Open an Internet Explorer  / Firefox . Type in the Printer's IP address in the address bar of Internet explorer and hit Enter Key.
    > If printer's info show that indicates they are connected .
    Let me know the result.

  • HP Envy 4500 - issues with paper feeding on intial setup

I just bought this HP Envy 4500 this afternoon and I need to use it asap.  Upon initial set up (before any wireless connections), I am stuck at the paper feed needed in order to print the test page. I loaded plain white paper but it still tells me to load the paper.  It sounds like it's preparing to print but then the paper does not feed, it never pulls the paper in.  I have used 3 varying stacks of paper to try to get it to pull and nothing.
    Please help.  TIA

    Hi @Loopster2,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are setting up your HP Envy 4500, but it is not recognizing the paper, so it keeps asking you to load the paper.
Please make sure the Paper Tray is pushed all the way back, alot of the times if you are getting this error it is because the paper tray isn't installed properly.

  • My toshiba laptop won't connect to my HP Envy 4500 printer

I have recently attempted connecting my Toshiba laptop, which runs Windows 8, wirelessly to my HP Envy 4500 printer. I'm trying to scan something onto my laptop, which I have done with the printer before. I have the remote app, and I have connected to the printer's wireless network that pops up in the wifi section of my computer. However, when attempting to get the printer to scan, using the option on the printer's screen, it said that no device was connected, and to make sure the software was installed and that scan to pc was enabled. I opened the app on my laptop, hoping to get better results using it that was, but it told me that the printer was offline, though it was clearly on. I am not entirely sure why the printer is not recognizing my laptop, even though my laptop recognizes it. I spent nearly two hours disconnecting and reconnecting, as well as turning the printer off about three times. I am about to uninstall the app and try reinstalling it, but I am doubting the results will be any better.
I see no other way to fix this problem, as there is no USB port in which to connect a USB cable, like myprevious printer, and am wondering if it is my latop, not the printer, that is faulty. It works for printing when it comes to the other devices in my household, but I have had problems even printing with my Toshiba before. I have only attempted scanning with one other device: a HP Pavillion Media Center TV PC desktop. I am starting to think that the scanner is defaulting to only reognizing other HP products, and request any and all advice in fixing this issue.
    This question was solved.

    Hi AMakkei,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you cannot scan with your HP Envy 4500 to your Windows 8 laptop, and I am happy to help you with this connection issue!
For further assistance, I will need to know following information:
If the printer is able to make copies by itself.
If the power cable plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
In the meantime, please try going through this guide. A 'Computer Not Found' or 'Connection Error' Message Displays during Scanning, and let me know what happens!
Hope to hear from you, and have a good day!

  • HP ENVY 4500 Printer "Error. Cannot connect to Server"

    Hey everybody,
    I work in IT and have a client that recently purchased a HP Envy 4500 all-in-one. She called me to install it for her and I got it set up with no problems. After a few days she told me that her printer wouldn't scan. It was giving her this error message;
"Error. Cannot connect to Server. Check Server name and address."
She has this computer connected via USB and I have already reinstalled the driver and ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor with no success. I have tried a lot of other solutions that people have been posting with the same issue but none have worked. This has become a huge issue and I don't see HP trying to find a solution. If no soultion will fix this, then I will be returning this printer for her and getting something that works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    bbritt91

    Hi bbritt91,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I understand that you are getting a connection error message when trying to use the scan to email feature of your Envy 4500 printer.
To be able to use the scan to email feature the printer must be setup with web services which requires the printer to be connected to your wireless network with an active internet connection. I have included the Getting Started with ePrint document for reference.
If the printer has been setup with a wireless connection, please set a manual IP address and manual DNS server for the printer. I have included a link to another post with the steps, including screen shots, on how to do this. Please don’t worry that the screen shots are for a Photosmart 7510, the steps are the same.
Please let me know how it goes.

  • Deskjet Advantage 3540 (Envy 4500): Computer won't connect with printer during software installation

I just bought this printer and I am trying to install it by using the HP installation CD but I am running into difficulties to complete the process. The problem is that the computer won't connect with the printer (but my printer connects fine with my Wi-Fi network) and installation does not complete.
The HP software installation process appears to go  normally (at least no error messages are shown) but when it gets to the part where it asks me how I would like to connect to the printer (Wireless or USB cable) I get an error message when I select Wireless Mode. My printer appears listed but as soon as I select it, a dialog is shown stating that "network installation could not be performed".
Below are the dialogs and what happens (text is in portuguese but you get the idea)
Dialog 1: selecting wireless connection mode
Dialog 2: printer appears in list and I select it
Dialog 3: Error message is shown, no further details
    Here are some more facts:
    (1) Printer connect fines with my Wi-Fi network: the connection details are correctly shown in its display (Wi-Fi SSID and IP 192.168.0.6) ;
    (2) If I go to a web browser in my computer and type in the IP address, I can access the printer's webpage fine;
    (3) I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling HP software;
    (4) I've resetted my router;
    (5) I've executed "HP Print and Scan Doctor" utility and it states my software hasn't been installed (which I don't understand) and it tries to download HP software and install one more time and I get to the error.
    (6) If I go to "Start" menu, I can see the HP group is empty (installation only creates icons on my desktop). See picture below:
My OS is Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate (Service Pack 1)
EDIT: I've just discovered the inkjet Advantage 3540 and Envy 4500 appear to be the same printer, each target to a different market.
Help is much appreciated as I tried a lot of things to make this printer work wirelessly with my computer but without success.
    Thank you,
    Joao Pedro

  • Envy 4500 e All-in-One - Still connects to network but won't talk to computers

I turned on my Envy 4500 the other day to print a paper for school, but it wouldn't print. It's connected to the same network as my computer, and I changed nothing, but now it simply won't cooperate. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, disabling my firewalls, restarting, running the Print and Scan doctor, resetting the printer to factory and reconfiguring the wireless settings, and nothing is helping. The Wi-Fi settings show that the connection is fine, but when I go to print wirelessly it shows the printer as offline. The issue is impacting all of the devices in my home that use the printer, including our Android phones, my Windows 7 desktop, and my wife's Windows 8.1 laptop.
I feel like I've done everything right, and it was working fine before, but for the life of me, my computer and my printer just won't talk to each other over the wi-fi. It works fine USB, but that's obviously not an ideal solution. Does anybody have any advice on this one?

  • Envy 4500 stopped working (wireless issue)

I am using Mac osx 10.9.4, my one week old Envy 4500 has been working fine until yesterday.
My computer cannot find this printer on the network, although running a Wireless Network Test on the printer print out said there is "No problems found" and everyhing is a PASS and the SSID network name it is connected to is accurate.
I have tried uninstalling the printer from the computer according to instructions on this website and reinstalling the driver again, but that has not worked.
My brother is able to detect and print from his PC laptop. So the problem seems to be with my computer.

    Hello @Emilio66,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing issues when trying to print from Microsoft Office and Test Pages from your Windows 8.1 computer to your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer. However, you are able to print from all other programs from your computer to your printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this printing issue.
Recently Microsoft has released a Hot Fix to correct 'Offline' or 'Partial Printing' issues within their latest Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Operating Systems as they recognize this as an issue within their Operating System. The issue occurs when you have a networked printer and a corruption with the WSD (network) port on the Windows Operating System. This issue appears to affect a variety of networked makes and models of printers. Therefore, I am going to have you run the Hot Fix to correct the network printing issue. Please click here to install the Hot Fix. Once the website opens select the button for Hotfix Download Available. Please follow any onscreen prompts to install the fix. Once the fix is installed you should have no issues printing to your printer.
If the printing issue persists, can I please have you click here to download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool. This Tool will run on your computer and 'fix printing' issues for you. Should any driver, software, or connection conflicts be found than the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool will attempt to resolve those conflicts for you. Once the Tool has completed please test printing again.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • What could be the issue with Envy 4500?

I have a linksys Cisco E1000 router and Charter cable internet.  The Router DOES have the firewall turned on.  I have installed the 4500 exactly as I should and it initially showed up on my Network, printed and everything was peachy.  Fast Forward a day, and the printer can't be located on my network, yet it still says it is connected.  I need a solution.

Hi @Rightgrl , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I can see you're experiencing connectivity issues. I'd like to help with that!
I have a couple of steps I'd recommend.
First, I would recommend a power reset on the printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
Second, I'd suggest following the steps in this document:
    Wireless printing center Troubleshooting Issues
Also, I'd recommend turning off the firewall.
