  • Oracle Virtual Directory (ovd) admin password reset

Not that I have to do this but for troubleshooting purposes, I wanted to reset the binding/cn=admin password.
The passwd file is under [ovd root]\conf\htpasswd
And the utility is under [ovd root]\lib
Specifically, the htpasswd file looks like a key value pair with some sort of hash. A comment line at the top of this file says "use org.mortbay.util.Password to generate crypted passwords" so I tried running a jar that looked promising but it looks to start up an :8080 service.
Where is the documentation that addresses this file or password reset? The password was set during install, is that the only way you can reset it if it is lost (mine is not, just wondering)?

This can be done using the OVD Manager (GUI) software. Use the OVD Manager to connect to the OVD Server and navigate to the Engine>Server>Security tab. From there you can simply enter a new password for CN=Admin.

  • Admin password reset problem. Help!

I just bought a used MBA (late 2010, 10.6.5), and I do not have the admin password. I also do not have the USB drive that came with it.
I would most like to perform a clean install, but at this point I would be happy just resetting the password.
    Here's what I've tried:
    - Tried booting from my Snow Leopard disk using Remote Install.  My disk has a version (probably 10.6.0) which is too early to work, apparently. The MBA has a kernel panic.
    - Tried looking for ways to set another admin account via terminal command. Can't find out how this is done without the existing admin password.
Any way to do this without the thumb drive and without a later version of the Snow Leopard disk?
    Charlie

See this Apple note on resetting the admin password. Under "resetting the original administrator account password" it discusses how to deal with changing with no DVD drive available.

I am locked out of my printer admin.  I am trying to do a firmware update and cannot do it using HP's Firmware updater, it doesn't seem to get past the spinning emblem on the updater window.  I would like to update the firmware on the printer but from what I've seen so far I need to get past the admin password.  Tried every conceivable password and I don't get in. Thanks

Resetting User Password in Lion and Mountain Lion
Boot into your Recovery Partition by holding down the Command and R keys whilst booting.
When the Recovery screen appears, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal.
    In Terminal, type:
    resetpassword
...a small app will open and allow you to choose the user for whom you want to change the password. If you are the admin, be certain that you choose your admin user. Type in your new password twice and give yourself a good hint. Click OK (or Done or whatever) and reboot, enjoying the use of your new, hopefully memorable, password.
    Good luck,

  • Why can't I enter single user mode on my Mac Mini for an admin password reset?

    Hi,
I recently created a new user account for my mac and deleted the old one, not realising that this was the only account with admin priveleges. As such, I no longer have access to administrator priveleges, and cannot grant them to my new user account.
I have tried to boot in single user mode and recovery mode but neither command results in any reaction on the part of my computer.
This thread follows on from a previous, unrelated disscussion:
BDAqua: If you hold alt key at bootup do you see a lock in the middle?
    Yenots: No...what does this mean?
BDAqua: If it did, it would mean Firmware Password Protection was enabled, which prevents booting in other modes, so that's not the problem, are you using a wired Mac KB, or Windows KB?
Yenots: I'm using an 'Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad' [ http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MB110B/B/apple-keyboard-with-numeric-keypad-br itish ]
If you find me here BDAqua, hit me with your knowledge!
Any other contributions are welcome and, now we're under the right heading, will hopefully help other users who have encountered this problem.
    Thanks, Cristo

    Hi,
Thanks for the link to MacPilot, and the sexy screenshot. I found an archived version for 10.4 on the koingosw website. That solves getting into single user/safe mode. Though I'd be interested to see whether sudo nvram boot-args="-s" will result in single user boot.
As for creating administrator priveleges for my new user account, I've found a method which looks good:
         \single user mode\
         cmd-s
         \mount drive\
         mount -uw
         \open 'directory access'\
         lauchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.opendirectory.plist
         \list users\
         ls /Users
         \change password\
         dscl . passwd /Users/<username> <password>
I think that this method intends that if I change the root users password I'll be changing the administrator password  (as root is the only user with administrator priveleges), and subsequently be able to change my new user accounts priveleges using 'netinfomanager'. But I'm not 100%. Could you give me your opinion on this?
Furthermore, three keys 'L' 'O' and '(' aren't working on my keyboard, which means I can't try this until I find an intact keyboard to borrow. I was thinking maybe a mod version of the above instructions would work in terminal using sudo, so I could use the keyboard viewer to type the missing characters. If you have any ideas on constructing such a mod I would be interested to hear them.
Otherwise, Thank You for your help BDAqua! And enjoy your summer wherever you are.

    Hi,
Based on your limited inputs, you can login to DC using built-in administrator account and open ADUC and reset the password of your custom domain admin account.
If you have no other administrator account, there is no Microsoft recommended way to reset the passwords for domain user accounts.

  • Password reset customization

We are running 2008 R2 Active Directory, staff log in to Windows machines on the domain so we have no issues with password reset settings there.
The issue we have is that we have students logging in from remote sites via a portal that, whilst using AD authentication, does not give students access to AD. The problem I have been asked to solve is this. When a student forgets their password they contact
the service desk and request a reset. The service desk have password reset rights BUT they do not have direct access to AD, they use an admin password reset tool on the portal which allows them to reset the users password.
This works as far as it goes, but the issue is we cannot enforce the "reset password at next logon" because the portal does not recognize this, it simply says the password is incorrect and denies access.
I need to be able to find a way to enforce a reset at next logon, or at least within 24 hours. The original request was to disable the account if a reset is not done within 24 hours, though that causes other issues as I am not sure how I can reset the auto
disable when the student does a reset.
Has anyone come across this type of requirement before? Is there a magic way to make this happen without having someone check each student account every day to make sure it isn't going to expire? Is there some miracle cmdlet in powershell that will let me
    set this?
If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them, I'm hitting a brick wall.
    Thanks

But that's the point. If a user knows their old password they can already reset it on their own. the issue is with people who do not remember their password. They need to have it reset by the administrator, however_if this is then set to force a reset at
next logon they_*_CANNOT LOG ON_,* they are NOT logging into AD but the authentication is done via AD. The check mark to force a reset at next logon is set, but all it does is reject their credentials on the portal which equates to they cannot log on. So we
either have them using a password known to others for up to 90 days, stop them from logging on by checking the reset at next logon box or try to come up with a solution that allows them to log on using the administrator provided password for a short time
during which they can select to reset it via the self service password reset option.
The bottom line here is that there is no way to accomplish what you want
out-of-the-box. You're either going to have to find a 3rd party application
you can deploy for this, or you're going to have to develop your own
    in-house application.

I have an Envoy 4360 Wireless AIO Officejet eprint printer that I need to reset the Admin password upon in the contrl panel if possible . Forge my Admin password that I set through the Web Portal, using in MAC OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 Any help will be appreciated! Rickll110

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I noticed that you need to reset the Admin password to your HP Officejet 4630 printer. I am happy to look into this for you! I would recommend to restore the network settings to the default settings: Press the Wireless button to access the Wireless Status
menu.Press the button next to Settings to access the Wireless
Settings menu.Select Restore Defaults.Confirm the selection to restore defaults. You should then be able to login in with username: admin and the password is left blank. For future reference, here, is your printer's user guide. Hope this information is helpful, and thank you for posting!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • Can anyone help.  For security reasons I reset my admin password on my Macbook Pro a few days ago and didn't write it down.  Now I've forgotten it.  I didnt receive an installation disc when I purchased my Macbook Pro online - it didn't come with one-help

Please see question above, but also note, I have the Applecare Protection Plan but am unable to get through to anyone on a weekend and I desperately need to use my laptop this weekend.  I can't log in at all now as I've forgotten my admin password.  A few weeks ago I also changed the password on my husband's new MacBook Pro and again forgot the password.  I spoke to someone at Apple and they helped me to reset it within minutes, by restarting the computer holding Command+something else (I can't remember what it was). A black screen with writing came up and I had to type in something like "password" (not sure exactly).  Anyway, this was a very quick and efficient process but I didn't write it down unfortunately.  Does anyone out there know what to do?  Thanks in anticipation

  • How do you reset Admin password (when not logged in as Admin)??

Here's my predicament. I set up 3 accounts on our laptop - one for me and my wife (Standard accounts) and a House Account as the only Admin. Now, I don't remember the password for the House Account, which serves as the Admin.
I am trying to load new software, but it request administrative privileges. To make matters worse, when I try to install the MAC OSX startup disk (like the help manual says you should to reset the admin password), before my computer will restart the startup disk, it asks me for the Admin password. Because I am not logged in as the Admin, I can't even restart the computer when prompted by the startup and install the OS again.
Any suggestions or help with this issue?
    Eric

Did you create an Open Firmware password as well? If not then just insert the OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive and restart the computer. After the chime press and hold down the 'C' key until the spinning gear appears below the dark gray Apple logo.
