HP Envy 5660 - Paper jam message

Our HP Envy 5660 printer is 2 weeks old.  It was purchased at an electronics chain store.
Set-up was easy.  No issues until the second week of ownership.  An error message popped up reporting a paper jam issue.  Followed directions to take out the jammed paper.  Note, there was no paper jammed nor any pieces of paper stuck in the printer.
I thought perhaps the paper tray needed attention.  Not the case.
No changes have been made to our system before the issue occurred
Somebody, please help us clear up this problem.
Thanks, Tomodachi

Hi @Tomodachi
Is this the document you used to troubleshoot the original paper jam message? A 'Paper Jam' Message Displays on the Control Panel.
If not, please skim through it to ensure you have done all of the necessary troubleshooting. If the issue persists, I suggest leaving the printer on and unplugging the power cable for a minute to perform a hard reset.
If the issue still remains resolved, I'd call HP. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.
I hope this helps.

Hard Reset – While printer is powered ON, pull
the power cord from the printer then from the
wall. After 30 seconds reconnect power to
wall and printer. This will trigger a ‘dirty power
up’ and restore the printer to a known good
condition (if it is possible). No user settings

  • HP Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus false paper jam message

I am ready to throw this printer out of the window! I am tired of false paper jam messages. The printer will be fine for a few weeks, then...another jam message that may take hours to clear. I have: reset the printer, searched for paper jams, verified the latest firmware, jiggled, and even moved the print cartridge rack to the right (which surprisingly has solved the problem a few times). The only thing I have not tried is an incense purification ceremony. Come on HP, quit telling us to try all the useless procedures. There is a sensor in the machine that is malfunctioning. Fix it! Instead of throwing it out the window, I will put it on the sidewalk and invite passersby to take out their frustration with a hammer. This would make a great video! Additional info: If I am able to run 'align printheads', that frequently fixes the situation. One more bit of evidence that there is some sensor on the blink.  8/28/14: HP support personnel said that the problem I was encountering was most likely due to a faulty sensor.

I bought the 8600 Plus on June 20, 2014; received my first "false paper jam" message yesterday (08/27) after loading Legal size paper and adjusting the paper tray accordingly - and No! I did not mix different size papers in the tray. The Paper Jam message continued; I tried all the steps outlined in the fix it guide offered on the HP website (except those that stated: "press the right arrow, go to settings and print a test page". Why? Because the error message was the only thing on the display! Then I saw all the posts about this same False Paper Jam message and decided to try one step mentioned by an HP user, i.e., load different amounts of paper into the tray. I did that and - what do you know? It began to work but the print cartridge then jammed itself way to the right and began making machine gun type noises so I just shut it down. And, yes! I used the power switch first then disconnected the power cord. My printing use had been very light, there's still @ 85% of ink left in the original cartridges. There are no paper pieces stuck anywhere. There is no lint, dust, or other debris. The printer was never dropped or taken apart. it simply has a major series of flaws. So, what's my next step? STAPLES doesn't want it back, and frankly, I don't want a replacement 8600 that has the same design flaws built into it as this one does. And, apparently, I am not alone...I also don't want to wait for a class action lawsuit to settle this all out 2 years or more from now for pennies on the dollar. I would like to get my full purchase price back, and not have to pay for shipping & insurance to send it back to HP. I must say I have had previous success being the owner of many different HP products, but this 8600 is same Lemon that the Edsel was to Ford (if this is unfamiliar to you, I'm sure you can look it up) Paul Botticelli

  • Continuous paper jam message HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m

No jam, paper will not feed, get message again and again paper jam. Even with no paper in hopper.  If i stuff the paper way up inside it feeds completely through the machine.  Was working fine printing 12 of 14 pages then it started the no feed paper jam.  tried many levels of paper in the tray will not feed unless i jam it in halfway.  then it feeds the single or whole pile (what ever amount that is pushed way in) all the way through. There is no paper stuck in the machine, anywhere, I have looked very carefully.  My thought is something is broken inside or a switch that's popped out that starts the initial paper feed.  When i look in where the paper lies the driver arm is stuck up not down on the paper.  It is stuck in the up position i put a very slight pressure on it to see if i could manually bring it down to contact paper but it would not move it was solid in the up position.  I can assume that it drops down when printer is told to print but it doesnt come down just get upper rollers running.  Thank you very much for your time and help

@ pat-75, just too piggy back off what Ciara_B said, the document she provided is the correct document for the false paper jam you are receiving.
Also, make sure and do a hard reset with the printer.
    Hard Reset:
Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall
    Wait 30 sec
Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall (Make sure the printer is plugged into the wall and not a surge protector)
    Let me know the outcome.

  • I am unable to resolve a false paper jam message on my pixma MP450

paper jam alarm - there is no paper jam.  It is a false error message.  I have gone through the steps advised.  Any other ideas?

    Hi kate-o,
Since you have already verified that there are no paper jams or obstructions in the printer, we can try to perform a roller cleaning on the printer to see if this will solve the problem.  To do this, please follow these steps:
Ensure that the printer is powered on and remove any paper from the Auto Sheet Feeder (ASF).
    Press the <Menu> button.
Use the right / left cursor button to select [Maintenance/settings], then press <OK>.
Note: This procedure is skipped if your machine is in Scan mode. Proceed to step 4.
Use the right / left cursor button to select [Maintenance], then press <OK>.
Perform the paper feed roller cleaning three times.
Use the up / down cursor button to select [Roller cleaning], then press <OK>.
When prompted to start roller cleaning, use the up / down cursor button to select [Yes], then press <OK>. (The paper feed roller cleaning starts.)
Check if the paper feed roller cleaning procedure resolved the issue.
Load a sheet of letter-sized plain paper in the ASF and open the paper output tray.
Use the up / down cursor button to select [Roller cleaning], then press <OK>.
Use the up / down cursor button to select [Yes], then press the OK button. (Paper will be fed.)
If paper is not fed properly, repeat step 6 up to three times.
If you still experience the same issue after performing a roller cleaning on the printer, it will require servicing.  Please click on the Contact Us link below to obtain your servicing options.

  • Receiving a false paper jam error message for a 6310 all in one printer

I have an hp 6310 all in one printer.  It is showing a false paper jam error message with no paper in the printer.  I have tried all  of the fixes that have been suggested on the website as well as on you tube to no avail.  Nothing works, I have cleaned all of the parts that have been suggested to clean and reset the printer. I am still receiving the same paper jam message with no paper in the printer.  Does anyone have any suggestions to try to fix this printer.

Do you here any clicks or other sounds when the 6310 first starts up?
I'm trying to fix false paper jam error on Sharp Fax/copier,F0-4450.
When researching the problem, found suggestion that a bad solenoid could cause that error.
After completely disassembling the copier found that wasn't the problem.
I here 2 clicks during start up that sounds like gear slipping a tooth, as if something is preventing a shaft from turning.
    Back to the drawing board.
UPDATE!!! Took fuser out, turned gears with screwdriver til 81/2x11 paper went thru, lubricated ends of fuser roller with powdered graphite lube.
    3 page fax came thru.

  • Hp INkjet 3545 paper jam and improper shutdown messages

I bought and new packed piece of Inkjet 3545 all in one printer about 2 days back. After installation of the cartridges, black and tri color, and closing the top lib, the printer has been persistent with a paper jam message. The display tells me that there is a jam, but i have checked very tohoroughly everywhere. not a piece of a paper. The printer was box packed when i received and it has been in this adamant loop ever since.
Also along with this paper jam issue, the printer always tells me that last shutdown  was "an improper shutdown". I have tried with the shutdown button and with a reset to factory settings also. Nothign seems to work. Can someone help me with this. I checked the  discussion board ad many folks have similar issues. But none of the suggestions seem to work for me.

    Hello @nazgul,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Deskjet 3545 prompting with a paper jam message. I will do my best to assist you! Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector. I just want to see if this makes a difference.
Follow this entire HP document on A 'Paper Jam' Message Displays on the Control Panel. Please double check to make sure there is no paper within this printer.
If your printer is stating "Improperly shutdown", this is fine. It just means you unplugged the printer in a different way. Please try this reset on your printer. Leave the printer turned on>Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer for more than 60 seconds. Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!

In the case of the CP1215, the paper jam error is FALSE!!! No one who is complaining about this issue has a paper jam!! You can post replies with your condescending link to your Paper Jam Resolution site all day long and it will NEVER rectify the situation hundreds of people are having with this printer! In my case, I have 2 printers with this exact same issue. My CP1215 as well as my 2200D both are completely useless due to a false "Paper Jam" message that won't allow the printer to print. Neither printer has printed more than 500 pages!!!!!
Thank you HP for transitioning from one of the best tech companies in the world to just another company that has no time or money to be concerned with the problems its customers are having with one of their products. I used to be proud that I owned HP printers if for no other reason than the quality of the products and the reputation - I even recommended your products to everyone who would listen. Not any more. Maybe one day one of the revolving-door CEO's will do a Google search for problems customers are having with your products and will see that the company's status quo isn't acceptable and do something to fix the problems internally that are affecting so many of your customers and also help the thousands of individuals who have basically hit a wall with regard to finding any kind of solution to the problems they have with their printers.

  • Paper jam error message - HP Officejet 8500 pro - please help, deployed no return option

You may have solved this now but this problem seems to be inherit to the HP design. I have it also after 6 months of operation.   I have downloaded the new firmware and it does not help.  I have found a  symptom of the problem is the arm does not drop down and the paper does not feed.  Then, loud clicking noises take place and a "out of paper" error happens.  Countless calls to HP does nothing to solve this.  One partial fix I tried after reading it here is to set your paper settings for " HP Premium Inkjet Paper" This seems to work but the printing is at a much slower rate.  Not a final fix. I have been trying to work with HP, but they are making it very difficult to stay with them.

don't buy it. I had the paper feed problem - now a paper jam message (with no paper jam) - and HP is not interested in my business.  I installed this on 1/22/2010 and after about 300 pages, it is unusable.  (and "out of warranty")  Ridiculous.  I have gone back and forth with HP over the past 3 weeks and I have no progress to report.  Sad.Excellent history with 970 - 970Cse - 7310cxi - and coutless printers before that.  WHAT HAPPENED???ok - done venting I think. I don't know how to fix this - HP doesn't seem to know what to do besides replacing it with the same model that eventually has the same problem.  I will keep watching this in case there is real progress on this issue.  In the meantime, I fired up the 7310 and will NOT buy another HP unless I hear that they have their act back together.  (If they take too long, I'll go to Consumer Reports and pick the best printer there (non-HP)) Good Luck

  • Officejet 8500a false paper jam issue

Hi any one who can help me,
I have a 8500a which is just out of warrenty and is now one big paper weight.
Basically gone through all the steps of cleaning the printer yet it still keeps coming up with the message.
So let me take you through what happens. On start up (of the paper weight) I get a message 'Improper shutdown' which I just simply 'ok' then it starts up. makes a few normal noises; then it use to to pick up a page, feed it about halfway through, then come up with the 'paper jam' message. Now however doesn't even pick up the page and comes up with the message.
Now this printer hasn't even gone through an ink cartridge yet, and has broken down oh and is my second one luckily the first one broke down in the first month or so.
please help me before I take my paper weight down to the tip and never buy hp ever again. cheers

Hi Ciara_B, cheers for the reply. Looked at the picture and i think it's the bit on the left hand side of the printer where the gear wheels move around, is that right, and is that known as the capping station? If so then yes ive checked there. I've moved the printer head out of the way and removed the cartridges too and looked through there. Basically ive had a tourch out and well can't see anything untowards or any peice of paper.
is there somewhere it could have fallen if it was a tiny piece?
    cheers for your help

  • HP 5740 Paper Jam Issue

I just got a brand new 5740, and when I went to set it up, I recieved the same paper jam message. I did what was instructed, but it still will not let me continue. There had never been any paper in there to get jammed up in the first place.

    Hope I can help you.
First, please see if you can make sure you have the latest version of firmware on your printer. If you hit the "?" mark and then touch Printer Information, you'll see the FW Version as the last thing on the screen.
The most current ends in 1336MR. If you have a number <1336, please update the FW.
The easiest way to check for FW is to have the printer connected to web services. The small icon on the upper left is for Web Services and under that menu is to check for update.
    Then...
    Settings/Tools/Advanced Cleaning.
Normally, this requires sending out of a cleaning pad by HP, however, try feeding a piece of card stock through tray 1. This may fix your paperjam.

  • HP Officejet 5610 All-in-one paper jam problem

Please is anyone out who can heIp me.
I tried to print a word document from my computer and my printer came up with the following message: Paper jam: clear jam and press ok. I have looked through the printer to see if there is any paper jammed in the printer. I just couldn't find any. This is the first time I have experienced this paper jam problem with my printer.
On pressing the OK button resulted in the printer making some strange noise (sounding as if it is trying to pickup a paper) with the catridge mechanism sliding from one side to the other for about 10 seconds without a paper in the paper tray being picked up. It then shows the paper jam message again and again. It has been the same for the last 5 hours and I need to print some documents urgently.
I have tried all of the following troubleshooting I found on the HP website without any joy.
Step one: Remove any loose paper Remove any loose paper from the input tray.
Step two: Clear the jam from the back of the Allin-
One 1. On the rear of the product, press in the tab on the left side of the rear access
door to release the door. Pull the door away from the product to remove it. Gently pull the
paper out of the rollers. CAUTION: If the paper tears while being removed from the
rollers, check the rollers and wheels for torn pieces of paper that might have remained
inside the product. Loose pieces of paper will cause future paper jams. Replace the
rear access door. Gently push the door forward until it snaps into place. Press OK to
continue the current print job. If the issue is not resolved , continue to the next step. If
the issue is resolved , you do not need to continue to the next step. If these steps
resolved the issue , there is no need to continue troubleshooting. If the issue persists , see the next step.
Step three: Clean the rollers Turn off the unit, and then unplug the power cord. Press in the tab on
the left side of the rear clean-out door to release the door. Remove the door by
pulling it away from the unit. Wipe the paper rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened
with distilled or bottled water. Rotate the rollers with your fingers to clean all the way
around. Allow the rollers to dry completely, and then replace the rear access door. Plug
the unit back in and turn it on. If these steps resolved the issue , there is no need to
continue troubleshooting. If the issue persists , see the next step.
Step four: Clear the jam from the automatic document feeder (ADF) Lift the cover of the ADF.
Lifting the ADF cover Gently pull the paper out of the rollers. CAUTION: If the paper
tears when being removed from the rollers, check the rollers and wheels for torn pieces
of paper that might be remaining inside the product. Loose pieces of paper will cause
future paper jams. Close the cover of the ADF. If these steps resolved the issue ,
there is no need to continue troubleshooting. If the issue persists , see the next step. The
next step couldn't be done because the paper is not loading.

@CAGY, take a look at this HP link on how to clear a jam.
