I grasp that you are unable to close your notebook or it falls apart. If you believe new hinges would resolve the issue, her is a link to the HP Envy 6 Maintenance and Service Guide, pl3ease note page 22 for the screw kit and hinge cover part numbers. Here are 2 links where you can check for the parts if desired.  HP Part Surfer and HP Parts Store

I grasp that you are unable to start your notebook. The power link was blinking but it would not power on.  You removed the battery and retried to no avail.  Now when you reconnect the power adapter you see the indicator light but still no unable to power on the notebook.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 10 takes about 6 minutes to open but then won't close

My old computer died so I am installing my Adobe Premiere Elements 10 on my new laptop with 8 gb Ram, 1 tb storage and Windows 8.1.  When I click on the icon to open it it can take up to 5-6 minutes to open and if it does, when I try to close it, it won't close.  I just get programs fails to respond.  Can any body help me?

What video card is your Windows 8.1 (assumed 64 bit) computer using? NVIDIA GeForce or other?
Please check the Device Manager/Display Adapters to confirm the video card/graphics card and how many cards.
Is the card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
Are you working from a User Account with Administrative Privileges? And, do you have QuickTime (latest version) installed on
    the computer with Premiere Elements?
Are you  using a pen and tablet device instead of a mouse?
Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
Please consider the above and then we can decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • Confirm navigation on chrome won't close

so the confirm navigation box on google chrome will not close, and I've tried just about everything
I've tried to use esc, turning of wifi, quickly hitting the x out button.
how can i close it? because if it won't close then it won't let me turn my laptop off. btw i have a macbook air.

to anyone still having this issue on their mac (mine's a pro 13") instead of using esc key, turning off wifi and stuff i've found another way that worked for me since none of the others did.
hover to the top and go to battery percentage. right click on it and it will tell you the apps that are using the most energy right now, i.e google chrome. click on google chrome and it will open a new window showing energy usage. make sure google chrome is selected, and then click the close button along the top (big cross thing). then when it asks you if you want to quit chrome, click FORCE QUIT and it should shut all windows. you'll lose all your tabs, but it saves having to do any installation or waiting for battery life to run out.
    good luck!

  • Pages is frozen and won't close

I'm unable to close pages, and it is completely frozen up. I've tried command+Q and shutting off the computer, but neither works. I can't shut off the computer because pages won't close. Is there something else I can try, or should I just bring my laptop in?

Try Force Quit (under the  menu) or Option Command Escape.

  • X won't close applications

    Hi All -
Got a brand new MacBook Pro here. I have been playing with the new stuff and navigating my way around. However, found a quirk that I am not happy about. When I am working with a few windows up, the red X will not close the window. I have an iMac and a PowerBook - and I have never had this problem on either of those computers. Only the new one.
I will click on the red X (with a wireless mouse) - I can click, click, click all I want. It won't close. I have used the mouse pad as well. Same issue.
I just checked and I'm all up to date. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know why this is happening?

I'm having exactly the same problem. It doesn't happen often but when it does I find that if you click on the top of the window in question and drag it then click the X it closes.
Although the effect of the problem is very minor, especially if you can close the window after dragging it a little like I can, but it's a problem that shouldn't be there.
And yes I'm on a 6 month old Macbook Pro unibody. I'm using the mid-2009 15" version with the single bottom panel and user non-removeable battery.
I'm also suffering from the intermittent touchpad mouse click problem many people have experienced.
As the problem with the red X button is so infrequent it's difficult to test using another user account as has been suggested. As sometimes I can use the laptop for a session and not experience the problem. Other times it can occur many times. Setting up a new account to test it is only viable if you were to us that new account for all your computing needs instead of your actual account.
I'm wondering if this problem is related to software currently installed on the machine and running in the statusbar. I recently did a full format to try and fix this and some other problems and I didn't see the problem occur again until I copied my documents and application settings across. I currently have the following software open all the time in my statusbar, so if anyone else has this software installed and have the same problem we could be onto something.
    Simplyfy Media Server
    Caffeine
    Logmein
    Evernote
    Time Machine
    Bluetooth (enabed)
    Connected to Wifi
I'd be very interested to see if any fellow suffers are running the same software as me. To repeat... I did not notice the problem after a full format and install until I started to load software and settings back in. I did not reinstate previous OS settings, only library settings for 3rd party software.
I too am up to date and this problem only occurred in the past few months.

  • New laptop won't turn on!

So I was browsing the Internet on my newly purchased hp envy 360 laptop that I've had for less than 2 weeks. I left my laptop sitting on for about 10 mins and when I came back it was shut off. I assumed that perhaps it died so I went to charge it, however what I noticed was that the light that indicates that the laptop was charging was not on. So now my laptop won't charge and won't turn on. It's absolutely dead, nothing lights up or blinks.
It was not in heat, never been dropped, no scratches or liquid spilled on it. So I'm shocked that this would happen. Is there any solution to this?

    Try this
Does your laptop run on battery or not
Try any replacement battery you can get or charge the device battery on another laptop , if the device is working
Then it might be the charger failed due to unstable electricity and need to be replaced , or charger input socket is not working
If not, try calling customers service to see if there is possible solution, or the device should go to support center
    Hope I helped

half an hour later i found at the problem and fixed (temporarely) the problem.
one of the hinges is not working anymore, just like a car ball hinge.
    to fix it:
    1. unscrew the screen cover and then detach it from the screen (the screws are covered by some plastic or rubber protection)
    2. unscrew the hinge and then pull it sideways until it breaks loose. I used some force, but tried to be careful. (picture 2 and three)
    3. put the cover back on the screen.
    4. either try to get a replacement hinge (the part number can be seen only partlally) or use the screen only with one hinge, which I did. When closing it or adjusting it, just be carefull to hold with the hand the side without a hinge. When fixed it stays there as before.

  • Pop up box in yahoo mail won't close, asks "do you use the yahoo! toolbar on multiple computers?" has option buttons but no response when clicking on anything, pop up box just sits there in the way

whenever I open my yahoo mail when using Firefox, a pop up box appears on the upper left side of the screen, it asks the question "do you use the yahoo! toolbar on multiple computers?" and gives click boxes for "Save to my yahoo ID" and "No thanks, just save to this computer". I get no response to clicking on either box, nor will the pop up close if I click on the "X" in the upper right corner of this pop up. It won't close out and it sits right over the top of the email messages in my inbox. All else seems to work fine, but can't get rid of this pop up box....very annoying.

go mail.yahoo.com as the login entrance for yahoo mail.

  • VI front panel won't close when it's done executing, when this vi was called by reference.

I've created a simple vi set to demonstrate the issue I'm having. I'm dynamically launching sub vi's from a main application. Simply put the main application is my test exec and the subvi's I'm calling dynamically are different tests. In the example I'm posting here the test vi is called Electrical Test 1.vi. I've configured this Electrical Test 1.vi to show front panel when called and close afterwards if originally closed.  Problem is it won't close the front.
Other things to keep in mind
I want to be able to launch the test vi and not wait till it's done.
    I'm using LabVIEW 2012 SP1.
    Solved!

Basically the close after call only matters if the VI is called as a subVI (just like if you open a VI yourself and run it, it doesn't close when it is done).  The two ways around this are to either have your top lvl app close the VI when it is done, this is explained here:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/987B2026B41BD39786256CF800032E8C
or to have your VI close itself when it is done.  Use a This VI reference and the Front Panel:Close invoke node.
    Hope this helps.

  • My scrollbar on my mouse pad on my laptop won't work since I downloaded the 4.0 version. I tried what some other people tried but I still can't get it to work. What can I do to fix it?

I just download the 4.0 version and my scroll pad on my laptop won't work. I have to use my arrow keys or the side bar on the side. The scroll pad works with Internet Explorer and anywhere else just not with Firefox's newest version.

This one is easy. The shortcut is for the old iTunes, that is why it won't work.
I assume you are using Windows.
If so, go to the bottom left of your screen and click the start button. Go up to programs and hold your cursor over it. A list of all your programs should pop up to the right. Move the curso over to iTunes. There should be an "about iTunes" and an iTunes logo there. Right click on the iTunes logo and click create shortcut (you can also just drag it out to your desktop). That will give you a desktop shortcut for your new version.

  • Biometric Reader no longer works on my Envy 17-j092r Laptop

    Hello Consumer Support Forum
I purchased a new HP Envy 17-j092nr Laptop about 15 months ago that came with a biometric (finger print) reader. I just recently had to re-install the operating system and when I did that my finger print reader no longer lights up (blinks) indicating that it is reading my finger print.  I remember before I re-installed the operating system under device manager I use to see a catagory "Biometric device" which contained the necessary driver for the hardware. When I look at my device manager now there is no folder for Biometric Device. I believe what I need to do is to download the driver but I have looked everywhere under HP drivers and not able to find it. I also would think when I boot my computer that it would detect that I have a biometric reader and automatically download the driver.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jim

There are two parts to the fingerprint logon with Windows 8.1 - the Native fingerprint logon Biometrics for Windows logon -- and the ability to support Third party software, in this case, HP SimplePass.
The Native fingerprint logon is a feature of Windows 8.1 -- if it is still part of your Operating System, the infrastructure might show up on Programs and Features as Validity WBF DDK -- if you see such, Do Not delete it, not even should you get excited later and need to reset, reinvent, or reinstall your HP SimplePass environment.  This is not related to your HP SimplePass and you need to leave it be.

  • What can I do if my Windows 7 or Windows Vista laptop won't start?

I have joined many forums in my short computer life. This is by far the best forum that I have been a part of. It really up sets me when people come on here and complain before they have even given any of the staff or advisors a chance to help them with their problem. What can I do if my Windows 7 or Vista laptop won't start.
    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Computer-Troubleshooting/What-can-I-do-if-my-Windows-7-or-Windows-Vista...
This is a great tutorial. Step by step to get your PC up and running and a lot more.Seriosly, if you can't follow this tutorial, you shouldn't have a computer. There will times when this won't work and you will have hardware problems. There are some great people here on the forum that can help you find those problems also. I have tried all these recovery options; they work, and I love my Toshiba laptop. That's why I donate my time to help and that's why others here donate their time. I'm creating this message because I know Google will pick it up. Google picks up every thing

Hi!! You should try the recovery feature in W7. Some times it can be accessed through safe mode. On my model it's easier to use the system repair disc. You can find out how to create that here.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-system-repair-disc
You can learn how to use the system repair disc here.
    http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-use-a-system-repair-disc-to-restore-windows.html
These are basic things you need to know if your going to own a Toshiba laptop.
PS Some day I'm going to convince staff to make a sticky of these things; which would cut their work in half, but then I wouldn't have any thing to do.
Here's what the recovery looks like. You have 5 options to help you. The Dos option can really help if you are familiar with Dos. In Dos you can do a chkdsk---sfc /scannow--- and a whole lot more. Start with the Repair option first and work your way down.
