HP ENVY 700-049 Won't Update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x20018

I recently purchased an HP Envy 700-049 desktop and have updated to the latest Windows 8. I have re-downloaded and installed all of the Windows 8 drivers listed on the support page. I disabled the wireless LAN in Windows (no way to do so in the BIOS that I can tell). After all of that I went to the Windows App Store and ran the 8.1 update. The machine reboots and begins to configure the devices, but stops prior to completion with the error SYSTEM_THREAD EXCEPTION NOT_HANDLED.
On reboot I am given
0xC1900101 - 0x30018
This is showing up in Google...and I tried common reccomendations (install updates, install latest driver, disable WLAN)... are there any additional suggestions or am I just going to have to hang tight on MS to fix this?
My wrist is getting tired from bouncing over to the quickbar. :-)

I am on 8.0, trying to update to 8.1. I can't install the 8.1 drivers. It is for all intents and purposes a new OS. The 8.1 drivers clearly indicate to me that the OS is not at a compatible level "Your system does not meet the operating system requirements. Update has been cancelled. (9998)".
I did note that the intel onboard driver was not good, don't know where that fell by the wayside, but I re-installed the HP Win8 driver and things were good.
There are two graphics cards, onboard and radeon. I updated the catalyst drivers too.
All of the HP drivers were up to date, all of the Windows Updates are installed.
I disconnected ALL devices except for the mouse and keyboard.
The drivers are installed fine for 8.0. But the way that the windows 8.1 update is delivered is through the Microsoft App Store. It downloads, installs and reboots. There is a second reboot where it starts updating the drivers. I know that it's a problem at that particular point, but without being able to isolate the driver that it's having a problem with...it's a crapshoot.
I researched a bit and looked at the winstore.log files, but nothing in there seems to indicate a specific driver...I think this is the log at the point where the update chokes...

I'm not sure where that "travel log" is written to, but that may have more information in it. I'm not seeing anything obvious in the Event Viewer. I tried to narrow down the time, and I see some errors popping up, but I'm not quite sure if they are related.
I may keep troubleshooting, I think I may just clean out the app store cache and give it a try again. There was a comment that I read that seems to indicate disabling file sharing settings can resolve the issue. I also saw a suggestion on downloading the preview and then updating from that. This is a fairly new box (at least to me), and it's running fine otherwise...but I would like to get 8.1 running to get the integrated tools. Worst case scenerio I could just download from DreamSpark and reinstall.

HP Envy 700-414 won't boot up. HELP!

I had recently downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 and was planning to dual boot with my HP Envy 700-414 (with Windows 8.1). The installation seemed like it was going good, then Ubuntu prompted me for a restart to complete the installation, however, when it restarted, it won't boot up Windows 8.1 OR Ubuntu. It will just remain frozen on the HP logo. I've tried to go into the BIOS or changing to boot to boot from my CD again so I could attempt to re-install, but when my computer turns on, it will just stay frozen on the HP logo.
And when I press F10 or F9 to change boot settings and what not, it won't do a single thing. It's like it's stuck or something. And I don't know how to go about troubleshooting this.
PLEASE HELP!!!!! I've had this desktop for less than a month! Could this be a motherboard or hard drive failure? (I REALLY hope not)
Note: I don't want tips on how to dual boot, I just want to know what I could do get my computer to boot up again. Even if it means I'll lose the data on my HDD.
P.S. - I also might have allocated too much space on my hard drive when I was trying to install Ubuntu. Don't know if that would have anything to do with it though.

Ipod won't update in windows 8

All of a sudden, Itunes won't update my Ipod in Windows 8. It doesn't even recognise that the Ipod is connected.
I got one error message from Itunes that the driver had been corrupted and it was trying to fix it.
I got another message from Windows that it had blocked the installation of an unlicenced driver.
I uninstalled Itunes, rebooted and reinstalled it without result but no error messages.
Just had a Windows update so I think that is the culprit.
When I plug in the ipod to the USB port, I get a sound acknowledgement but Windows doesn't seem to know it is there as there is no explorer icon and it doesn't show up in My Computer

Acrobat 9 might have compatibility issues with Windows 8.
Try changing the compatibility of Acrobat to Windows Xp and then check.

Monitor with HP Envy 700-056 going black UPDATE

After doing some extensive searching, it has become clear that if you are a gamer or do any high end graphics that a DVI to HDMI is not going to work well. While working with graphic intensive programs, the screen resolution my change and it is important to have a dedicated graphics card, such as NVIDIA, that has the ability to do an HDMI to HDMI connection.
I did exactly this by using a new Laptop and using the HDMI to HDMI connector to the VIZIO. This worked and the VIZIO never went black. The laptop has both the Intel and NVIDIA Graphics cards.
So, after spending a good chunk of change for the new HP Desktop, I am now forced to either go with a new desktop that has the HDMI port or buy a dedicated graphics card like NVIDIA. Again, HP failed to make this very clear and are obviously aware of the issue as others have posted blogs regarding this very same problem.
As to why a new HP desktop does not have the option of an HDMI on the tower is beyond me. With more and more people opting out for Smart TV's as their monitor it would make sense to have an HDMI on the tower and not just the DVI to HDMI connection.
I would highly recommend that anyone that is a gamer or uses programs that are graphic intensive to make sure that you have a dedicated graphics card on your desktop.......the DVI to HDMI will not work...that has become painfully obvious.

Try a DVI-D dual link to HDMI cable. You will have to use a separate sound cable. Ultra high resolutions (4k) may be a problem in which case you might need a discrete graphics card.

C3 Web Premium won't update on Windows 7 64bit

The auto-update program pops up to indicate that updates are available. When I run the update, it stops midway and tells me that I must shut down XSrvSetup.exe before proceeding. However, I can find XSrvSetup.exe in my list of running processs, applications, or services. I think XSrvSetup.exe is somehow related to the JMB36X service, but I can't shut this service down - not sure what it does either.
Can I not update CS3 Web Premium on Windows 7 64bit?

Cracked it! in task manager on teh processes tab there is an option to "show processes from all users". xsrvsetup.exe is a system process. I stopped it and then ran the update through sucessfully.

ITunes won't update on Windows XP

MSVCR80.dll Missing - I tried to update iTunes when asked by the program, on 2 different Windows XP computers.
Both had errors while installing. Is there a fix?

Acrobat 9 won't update in Windows 8.1

I can't get the automatic updates to work on Acrobat. It has been suggested elsewhere to manually update but I have started this and found it too time consuming as there are 24 different updates between 9.0 and the latest version.
The automatic update system is saying there are no updates available, but I know there are because they are installing if done manually.
Before it started saying no updates available it was saying 'problems connecting to server', but that was changed by turning off a wifi direct virtual adapter in device manager. I would be grateful for help!

Itunes Won't Update in Windows XP

Everytime I click update, nothing comes up. Help Please!
I've tried many methods, including reinstalling and trying to download from the website. Nothing seems to work.

Photo stream won't update in Windows 8

I have iCloud Control panel v. 4.0.2 installed on a PC running Windows 8. My problem is that my Photo Stream photos aren't being downloaded into the appointed Photo Stream folder. I've had this problem before. Reinstalling the iCloud control panel didn't seem to help. Restarting the PC didn't seem to help. Signing out of iCloud and signing back in didn't seem to help. Changing the Photo Stream folder didn't seem to help.
Photos are from an iPod Touch 4th gen, with iOS 6.1.6. Photos are showing up in the Photo Stream folder on the iPod, but not my PC.

HP Envy 700-214 Fails to install windows 10

Earlier this Year, I purchased an HP Envy 700-214 PC 64 bit, with Windows 8.1 that also provided a recovery partition. I have tried to upgrade to Windows 10, from the Windows Upgrade process, which failed 3 times. I then used the Media Creation Tool to download the 64bit iso from Microsoft, when I then burned to a DVD as an image. From my running 8.1, I accessed the DVD drive and ran the setup.exe. It ran through the who initial process of downloading updates and checking the PC for problems and space, It then gave me the options to upgrade and save my personal data. I then clicked on Install, which ran until about 25% completed. I then received a message that the install failed, without a hint of why it failed. I am just about ready to give up and stick with 8.1, as I have never seen such a mis-managed software process as this upgrade in my entire life.....

Hello, Have you used any third party partitioning/cloning software to change partitions sizes or installed an SSD and used partitioning software to clone the OEM factory image to the SSD? The Win 10 upgrade may fail if this is true. On another note the following article by Ed Bott may provide a solution. We know you must upgrade first to tie your device to an activation code so you can install Win 10 on the device again. Ed Bott provides a method for installing Win 10 cleanly that also activates during the installation process. Note, your current Win 8.1 install must be properly activated in order for Win 10 to activate properly. Try setting UEFI (BIOS) settings to defaults before attempting the clean install procedure described by Ed Bott in the above article. Have a recovery option available if this fails. This method is going to require installation of all software you have installed now on Win 8.1. You will be nuking Win 8.1 and starting fresh with Win 10. If it fails you will have to reimage Win 8.1 using a Microsoft Recovery Drive and a good system image stored on external backup drive, third party backup software, or use HP recovery discs to go back to the factory image. Backup the SWSETUP folder on current Win 8.1 installation to use to install HP software on Win 10. You also have Win 10 drivers at your PC's software and driver download site available if you have any driver issues after the Win 10 upgrade completes. Lastly, are you using a wireless keyboard or mouse? If so, try the upgrade or the clean install method (per Ed Bott) using wired peripherals. I have not seen any tips on this but it might help by limiting complexity. Did you run the compatibility checker tool included in the" Get Windows"notification program located near the system clock? Windows 8.1 Pro Bitlocker with HP Envy 700

I just got a new HP Envy 700-249. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro immediately for Bitlocker and Remote Access. The PC will be stored in a relatively unsecure location and is for public use - but will have a few users who have access to install software, store private files, etc. SO I want to be sure that the OS stays safe as well as the data.
I want a way to keep someone from accessing anything on C drive that isn't in the Public folders and make the drive unable to be viewed if booted from anything other than itself. So I figured BitLocker. I've gone into gpedit.msc and set option to allow bitlocker without TPM. BitLocker runs and allows me to turn on encryption. I've tried a couple of types of USB drives and BitLocker says it has saved the key to them. I've checked and they have a BitLocker recovery file on them.
BUT - when the system reboots, it will not recognize the USB drive as the key and will not encrypt the drive. I am stumped.
Has anyone gotten an HP non-TPM desktop to encrypt the OS and data drives with Win 8.1 Bitlocker? How?????

Bit locker was meant to encrypt entire physical drives. Review this MS article.
I would suggest that you install a second hard drive and then move your sensitive files and documents to that physical hard drive and use bit locker to encrypt that hard drive. If you are going to keep the key on an external device (USB flash drive) then make a backup copy in case the USB drive fails or is lost.

RAID is not an option/not available/missing in BIOS Storage Options?? HP Envy 700-047c

Hello - I have an HP Envy 700-047c. It came with a 2 TB HD. I put in another 2 TB HD same model/type. The system in the BIOS and Windows 8 sees the new drive. However, when I boot and go into F10 BIOS/HP Setup utility, go to Storage menu, select Storage Options, my only option is SATA Emulation and the only 2 select options it shows are AHCI and IDE. This is where I should see RAID option - it is not there.
I tried changing SATA ports on the motherboard - no help.
I tried disabling Secure Boot and UEFI and chose Legacy - no help.
I updated to latest BIOS for this PC - no help.
I installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology software and can see the 2 drives within Windows but there is no create option on the Status page like there should be (because you need to enable RAID in the BIOS which the option is missing).
I looked on the motherboard and don't see any jumpers that are labeled RAID (ie. some physical trip).
I called Intel and they confirmed the Intel chipset I have is RAID capable but to contact HP to see if they turned off. I contacted HP and twice they said they are not trained in RAID and do not support it. I contacted the local Microcenter tech support and they found a link on this website talking about how to go to the area I'm in - but the RAID option is not there.
Does anyone know how to get RAID enabled on this HP 700-047c in the BIOS/Setup utility? Help!

UPDATE BY ORIGINAL POSTER TO BELOW - The below is not accurate about RAID being disabled on "All" HP home line computers per research from Big_Dave (Thanks!) - It is what I was told by the HP Escalation Team Friday however - not just my MB but all - which we are seeing is not correct per the customizable Envy model in the following post. It may just be certain models or just my current model's MB...?? I struck thru some of the detail, but leaving it mostly intact so others can see the misinformation I was given.
Thanks for passing along. Below is what I found out about how RAID is disabled by HP now.
I also had an email going back and forth with HP support and they sent to HP Escalation team who I ended up talking with yesterday who researched it for a day and found out that HP has disabled RAID on the motherboard for all of their home PC line! As we were thinking above. Only servers can do RAID now is the word. Hard to believe they'd do that. The rep said he believed it had to do with people calling HP when they lost data due to setting up using RAID 0 and thinking that protected them (all it does is make a big disk, no redundancy like RAID 1).
To me that is no reason to turn off a feature of the Intel chipset. They also don't make this clear to any HP employee as no one I've talked to (3 now along with chat and email) knew that HP is crippling the capabilities of the MB and chipset. I even have a several year old HP Pavilion that has RAID enabled on it under my desk and has saved me twice from disk failure (running RAID 1 mirroring).
I'm pretty disappointed with HP decision to do this and that it's poorly recorded (in fact not recorded at all) it so that I wasted hours upon days trying to figure it out with tech support people. If HP wants to remove a much needed service such as RAID it should be mandatory for them to disclaim that right in the Specfications sheet. RAID IS DISABLED AND CANNOT BE TURNED ON ON ANY HP HOME CONSUMER COMPUTER.
Note: I even called AMI (American Megatrend, Inc.) with HP on the line who said they sold the MB to HP fully capable of RAID which is what led the escalation rep to research to whomever he talked to and found out HP is disabling it out the door to their unaware consumers.
I also asked if HP tech team disabled it, would they be willing to send me a BIOS flash to re-enable it - ie. make that an option for those who are knowledgeable about RAID and can setup. The response was they probably won't. I pressed a little but didn't get anywhere - seems like a reasonable request to me/option to keep people happy.
Luckily I'm within my return window and will be taking this computer back. Sad considering how much time I've put into it thinking I had a computer capable to do what I need.
Anyway - please help spread the word so HP can get this into their knowledge DB and boards that RAID is GONE - removed purposefully by HP.

Envy 700 w/Windows 8.1 Boots Past Advanced Start-Up Options Menu

I have an Envy 700 desktop with Windows 8.1. I'm trying to install a non-signed driver. I've gone through the documented process that is supposed to bring up the Advanced Startup Options screen, however when I do the Re-start it boots right past it and to the HP logo and proceeds to boot right back into windows again.
In fact I can't even get it to the menu to boot into Safe Mode without going into Command mode, msconfig, and manually checking the box to start into Safe Mode. Even then there's no way I've found to get to the Advanced Startup Options menu to stop doing signed driver checks.
Also I'm afraid some day if I have a real problem I won't be able to even get into Safe Mode.
Anyone have a solution...it must have something to do with the HP boot process not Windows.

I was never able to get the Advanced Startup Options menu to display more than maybe half a second before it continued to boot. I knew which menu item I wanted to select so just kept tapping the 7 key which is for disabling the driver signature checking and it did continue to boot as it has however my menu item did take affect so I was able to load my unsigned driver.
This issue has to have something to do with the HP routine I'm guess as it just blows right by the Advanced Startup Options to show the HP circle logo and boot normally. Hopefully there's some ideas on how to actually fix this...thank you for your support!

Very poor sound quality on bluetooth headphones through HP Envy 700-074 desktop

I recently purchased a pair of Bose AE2W wireless bluetooth headphones to use with my HP Envy 700-074 desktop computer. After successfully pairing the headphones the sound quality is extremely poor. I know the headphones are not the pronblem since they sound beautiful when paired with my iPhone or iPad.
I have tried updating the driver, but I have the most current version installed according to the computer. Adjustment of the Beats Audio controls or any other sound controls does not help.
