HP ENVY 700-210xt CTO Desktop PC/windows 8.1: can't display 2nd monitor

Detail information:
- HP ENVY 700-210XT CTO Desctop PC
- One VGA port and one DVI-D port (used DVI-D to DVI-D cable to connect to second monitor)
- video card is a buildin card on motherboard
- Two monitors: AOC 10X16, Acer 12X15 (with both VGA and DVI-D ports) and both working perfectly if connected to computer thru VGA cable.
- When start computer, both monitors showing 'HP' and circle of stars to indicate Window is starting (so I think DVI-D connection and is fine).
- Then second (DVI-D) monitor shows no signal and VGA monitor continues and everything is fine.
- If I go to Devices/Project/Second screen and choose any of the options: Duplicate/ExtendSecond screen only, nothing shows. After awhile, system says can't find second monitor.
Questions:
1) if it is OK to use two different kinds/sizes of monitors?
2) what else I can do to make the computer to use the DVI-D monitor?

Hi,
If you can't see the basic HP UEFI boot menu information with a DVI connection then you have a hardware issue. It's either your monitors or DVI cable or the DVI port on your PC. It's definitely not a software issue as digital drivers don't get loaded until later in the Windows boot process.
Test the monitors and the DVI cable on another PC to ensure that they work correctly. Alternatively, try a different DVI cable and monitor on your PC.

Here is a guide that should help you. Be certain to watch the video. You will need SATA III cables; power and data. Although, the SATA 1.0 cables will work fine if you don't have the others. I have found that the straight cables have always worked for me.

HP ENVY 700-210xt changed the case. Wifi adapterworking but can't find my network

Hi all, I just changed the case of my HP ENVY 700-210xt and now my wifi adpater cannot find my network. I work as an IT so I have done this before many times but this is weird. The adapter is detected by the OS. I installed the newest drivers with a usb key. I did everything and it just can't seem to find my network. all its saying is that it finds a hidden network which I have tried to enter my network info in and is not working. I know for a fact that my network is ok because I can use my cell phone, my ps4 and my wii U on my network and surf the web just fine. please help.

Here is a guide that explains how to connect to a hidden wireless network. From what you are saying, however, I doubt that you even have one.
Have you tried completely eliminating your network and setting it up again? It makes no sense that it would have worked with the original case and not the new one. Unless, that is, the case is shielding the signal some way. Is there an internal antenae?

HP Envy 700-214 Fails to install windows 10

Earlier this Year, I purchased an HP Envy 700-214 PC 64 bit, with Windows 8.1 that also provided a recovery partition. I have tried to upgrade to Windows 10, from the Windows Upgrade process, which failed 3 times. I then used the Media Creation Tool to download the 64bit iso from Microsoft, when I then burned to a DVD as an image. From my running 8.1, I accessed the DVD drive and ran the setup.exe. It ran through the who initial process of downloading updates and checking the PC for problems and space, It then gave me the options to upgrade and save my personal data. I then clicked on Install, which ran until about 25% completed. I then received a message that the install failed, without a hint of why it failed. I am just about ready to give up and stick with 8.1, as I have never seen such a mis-managed software process as this upgrade in my entire life.....

Hello, Have you used any third party partitioning/cloning software to change partitions sizes or installed an SSD and used partitioning software to clone the OEM factory image to the SSD? The Win 10 upgrade may fail if this is true. On another note the following article by Ed Bott may provide a solution. We know you must upgrade first to tie your device to an activation code so you can install Win 10 on the device again. Ed Bott provides a method for installing Win 10 cleanly that also activates during the installation process. Note, your current Win 8.1 install must be properly activated in order for Win 10 to activate properly. Try setting UEFI (BIOS) settings to defaults before attempting the clean install procedure described by Ed Bott in the above article. Have a recovery option available if this fails. This method is going to require installation of all software you have installed now on Win 8.1. You will be nuking Win 8.1 and starting fresh with Win 10. If it fails you will have to reimage Win 8.1 using a Microsoft Recovery Drive and a good system image stored on external backup drive, third party backup software, or use HP recovery discs to go back to the factory image. Backup the SWSETUP folder on current Win 8.1 installation to use to install HP software on Win 10. You also have Win 10 drivers at your PC's software and driver download site available if you have any driver issues after the Win 10 upgrade completes. Lastly, are you using a wireless keyboard or mouse? If so, try the upgrade or the clean install method (per Ed Bott) using wired peripherals. I have not seen any tips on this but it might help by limiting complexity. Did you run the compatibility checker tool included in the" Get Windows"notification program located near the system clock? Remote Desktop windows 7 ultimate can't use two monitors

i have two computers in another office that remote into two other computers here at my site, all 4 computers run windows 7 ultimate, about a week to 10 days ago the two remote computers can still connect to the computers at my site but can only use one monitor
not dual monitors as before the 10 days or so. The use all displays box is checked in the remote desktop client, i have two sonicwall firewalls with a site to site vpn connection between the offices that they use to remote

Manager's desktop - message "No subject categories can be displayed"

One of our users when he runs PPMDT transaction there is a message (on the bottom status line):
"No subject categories can be displayed" and nothing is displayed.
What is the problem ?
Manager's desktop works fine for many users, and in my opinion configuration and roles are correct.

Compaq Presario CQ5814 Desktop PC Windows 7 64-bit no display or video

Hi all, I have a Compaq CQ5814. The display and video has failed. I get no picture, start-up screen, or any signal to any monitor. I've troubleshot this by using different monitors,etc. but to no avail. It is the original integrated vga and dvi i'm using. The power light is solid blue. I understand I have two pci-e x1 slots, and one pci-e x4 slot, but the x4 is hard to find with a good price, and the x1 is also kinda pricey. I'm not sure if this is the motherboard entirely or if I can just add a video card. If I buy a video card, can I get away with using a x16 with an adapter? If so, I can save $$.

Do you hear any sounds such as the Windows chime when turning on the computer? No display when the computer starts up doesn't necessarily mean it is a failed video chip, though it typically is. I also suggest if you are in Warranty to call HP rather than opening the computer and adding components. HP Product Warranty Check Tool
Using an x16 video card will have too large an interface to use in a x4 or x1 slot. PCI E is backwards compatible with the slot. So for example: just say you have a PCI E x1 video card. That card will be able to work in a PCI E x4 slot because it's interface is smaller. If you look at the motherboard image for your computer you can see that the PCI E x4 slot of the top fits a larger card. A card designed for the x4 slot would not fit in the x1 slot. Lastly make sure that your power supply is big enough to power the new video card. Your computer has a 250W (watt) power supply which may not be able to power a PCI E video card. (integrated graphics use less energy and heat) If you search for a video card try locating a x1 if an x4 is not available or hard to find. Try some sites like Newegg or CompUSA.

T60 running Windows 8 won't extend display to monitor

I checked the forums but couldn't find a similar topic.
I have a T60 coming up on it's 8th birthday. About a year and a half ago I installed windows 8. Just recently I tried to extend my work space to a second VGA monitor, in addition to the T60's LCD, in a dual-monitor configuration. I've seen this done before on T60 loaded with XP or Vista.
If I connect a VGA monitor, it will mirror my LCD screen fine on the monitor. But when I try Ctrl-F7 to toggle display options, a message comes up from the right saying, "Second Screen: Your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card."
Not my first time to the rodeo. I went to Device Manager and learned that my ATI display driver had been replaced with "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter." I assume this is some kind of generic driver microsoft pushed out to make older components compatible with Windows 8. So I figured I'd download the driver from AMD.
I actually don't remember the graphic card I have, but searching for my T60 model number (2623D7U) shows it as ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. Unfortunately, AMD never updated the X1000 series of drivers for Windows 8. In fact, I can't seem to find any drivers on their website lower than 2000.
There are some links on various forums suggesting to download the Windows 7 version of the X1400 driver, but apparently AMD changed their website around in February and the links are all broken, and as I said, I can't seem to find any of those drivers on the AMD website.
Just to be clear, everything is working fine as it is, and I don't want to risk screwing it up. But if someone knows how to solve this issue and enable me to gain the ability to add dual monitor mode please let me know. Short of that, if there's a cheap graphic card you can recommend for my PCMCIA slot which could do the trick, I would appreciate it.

Get the Vista driver for your machine here: Ati X1400 driver Vista (32bit/64bit)
Run the setup file to extract the drivers, but cancel the installation, as Windows 8 does not like
the Catalyst Control Center. Then you just manually install the drivers through Device Manager
by pointing it to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\VIDEO
I've done this on quite a few T60's and this always fixes the dual display issue, which Windows
does a great job managing.

Can I display 2nd view on external window ?

Hi all
I would like to implement the function that Output views come out on external window.
For example, OnAction method searches data from DataBase and the result appears on external window not original window.
Comparing this function to HTML, I imagine anchor with "target = BLANK".
I try to use 2 methods ,create_window and create_external_window, in if_wd_window_manager.
But I couldn't get my want.
Howcan I do ?

there are two scenrios here.
1. creating a MODAL POPup window using create_window and this will create a window having the the second view with the desired data.
here in this case you have to create a comman context node in the comp contrl and use it both views. then
create second window and embed the second view in it.
now fill the data in the first view in the context node and then use the method create_window to create the modal popup
window and show your data here in the second view may be table or form (whatever you want).
2. second scenario is to create sn external non modal window itself which will open in a seprate browser window.
there how ever you cannot pass the context node itself. masimum you can do is pass url string paramters.
which you can fetch in the second application and disply the result accordingly.

Can't use 2nd monitor for Desktop Video - DisplayPort issue?

I just got my Mac Pro 8 core (2009). I have two monitors connected to it. Anything that happens on the second monitor(connected to the DisplayPort via a DisplayPort to DVI adapter) is choppy. I can't even move or reposition windows smoothly.
Additionally, Final Cut Pro will not let me use the second monitor to play my video out as I could with my previous mac pro (2008) which had two DVD ports.
What's up with this DisplayPort causing these issues?

HP Envy 700-030qe Windows 7 64 bit Drivers

Hi,
I purchased a HP Envy 700-030qe desktop
The computer came with Windows 8 preinstalled.
I'd like to downgrade it to Windows 7 64 bit, however HP website only has Windows 8 64 bit drivers available for download.
I tried it but it doens't run on Windows 7 64 bit.
I was only able to find Windows 7 64 bit drivers for Network Card and ATI.
I still need the rest in Windows 7 64 bit drivers for my HP Envy 700-059CB. Can someone help?

Intel Rapid Storage Technology and the Envy 700-330qe

I have a new Envy 700-330qe CTO. One of the suggested driver updates on the hp support is for Intel Rapid Storage Technology. I initially thought that this was a driver for hardware like my old Pavilion had (it had an Intel Matrix Storage Manager board which managed RAID 0, 1, or 0+1). Now I see that it is a RAID software emulation program. Nowhere in the documention that came with the machine is there any mention of this machine's capability to run any form of RAID. I do have two HDD's and they are the same size, so theoretically I could run RAID 0 or 1 if I so choose, but nowhere is there any mention of a way to do this. I did see that the BIOS must be set to run RAID.
I am NO expert. I was wondering where I can find further into on how to set up a machine with RAID. Thus far, I have not even taken a peek at the BIOS (not even sure how to do this, so some of you may think I am stupid). I guess I get a bit bent out of shape when a product has features that should be out in the open but appear to be hidden. Any help would be reallyhl appreciated.

I am sure that you noticed that the HP configurator doesn't offer an option to cache a RAID configuration. The Intel IRST MSATA caching functionality does rely on the RAID setup process to activate caching on one HD.

Akeva62, welcome to the forum.
The front cover, just below the red line in the photo, that has the HP logo should slide down. Once it is down it should reveal the card reader. I know that is the way my HP Envy Phoenix works.

Unable at times to move a firefox window to a 2nd monitor

I have 2 monitors. I open a firefox window on the primary, I then try to "grab" the window and move it to the 2nd monitor. I can't "grab" the window. After multiple attempts I can finally "grab" the window and move it.
