The subject is fairly self explanatory, I am using a HP Envy dv4 on Windows 8 and trying to use the 'HP TrueVision HD ' Webcam which is not working. When I went to find it in the device manager it was not present. I have restarted my computer already.

    Hey @kleinhansjy ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the webcam in your ENVY dv4 notebook is not working.
Can you tell me if the webcam worked previously, has never worked, or stopped working after updating to Windows 8 (if the notebook did not come with Windows 8 pre-installed).
It would also help to know which exact notebook model you have. For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

Some of the steps may not apply if the webcam is not detected in Device Manager. You may need to show the hidden devices by clicking View > Show hidden devices. You might find the webcam is listed as an Unknown device in the Other devices category.

  • HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC trackpad issue even after HP repair

2 weeks ago i sent my HP ENVY m6 Notebook to the HP Repair center because i was having major issues with the trackpad. It would not move fluidly, and click, and move on its own.
I received my laptop back today anticipating that everything would work perfectly but some of these same issues are still occuring. The touchpad and the cable that connects it were both replace and the laptop was wiped clean.
The toucpad will work for sometime then all of a sudden become glitchy. This is really effecting my usage of the computer. It is a huge inconvenience to pay for a laptop and have a major component malfunctioning. I'm currently using a wireless mouse again.
Since the hardware was replace is there a software problem. This sems to be occuring to so many people.

  • How do I disable the Symantics TouchPad on my HP Envy 14t notebook?

I have tried to modify the sensitivity of the touchpad on my laptop, but it's still so touchy it's driving me crazy. The other issues I looked at here in the Community forum don't pertain to the machine or utilities I have.
I want to COMPLETELY DISABLE it and use a plug-in mouse.  Where is the option to disable the touchpad?
I have uninstalled the Symantic TouchPad driver, but the touchpad still shows up as a device as "PS/2 Compatible Mouse." When I open its Mouse Properties dialog, on the Driver tab, the Disable button is grayed out.
How do I COMPELTELY DISABLE the touchpad and just use a plug-in mouse on the HP Envy 14t notebook?
    This question was solved.

    @kiltinshire,
Thanks for posting back.  As you may be aware there are multiple versions of HP notebooks, most control functions are found in the user guide.  If you can not find it there then you would have to go to how to disable hard ware in windows.  That is a microsoft topic.
You normally have 2 choices to physically shut it off.  First the touchpad has a little button in a corner depending on model.  Use a function key it will have a diagram of a square and a finger.  These methods have been used for years for turning your touchpad off.
Next is just google how to turn off touchpad in windows 8.  Here is a couple links that you may find useful that I found using that search.
    TouchPad and Keyboard
How to Enable and Disable Touch Pad on HP ENVY
Disable Laptop Touchpad in Windows 8 / 7
How to disable laptop touch pad in windows 8
Now if you are actually trying to find a way of permanently shutting off the touchpad so that it does not come on again you will have to dig into Windows help for that.  If Windows sees the hardware at start up it will by default try and load the base driver for it and most likely turn it on when you reboot.
The only other way is to open up your notebook and disconnect the cable that goes from the touch pad to the motherboard so that does not happen.
    I am hoping that helps.
Thank you again for posting and have a great day.

This document is pretty much a catchall of webcam related issues. There is a section specifically for the device not  appearing in device manager. Check it out, unfortunately if it does not resolve with that then it is likely either a loose connection or fault in the device.

  • HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC Cannot Install Cyberlink PowerDirector on Fresh Install Windows 8.1

    HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC
    Product number: F5D54EA#ABU
    Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
I replaced the original system drive with a SSD, fresh install of wndows 8.1 (not recovery disk), now I canot install Cyberlink PowerDirector downloaded from HP sp69386. During installation it fails with "This is not a valid HP drive, Setup will now abort" It obviously requires something to be available on the drive but I don't know what.
    PowerDVD will install just fine.
Please don't mention a Recovery Install it's taken too long to arrive at this stage.
The question is what is the software looking for during installation to satisfy itself that this is a genuine HP laptop and can I replicate that on the SSD.

    Hi @Darren104
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I saw your post regarding the problem installing the Cyberlink PowerDirector software. As the PowerDirector software is DVD software I can't see how a new SSD would cause the “not a valid HP driver” if you had changed out your optical drive then maybe. I would recommend that you give us a call at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

Certain keys (space bar, left shift key, z, x, c, v, b, n, m , comma, period, /) and number keys (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9) on the keyboard of my laptop are not working. I already tried to do several hard resets (disconnecting power supply and taking out battery) but that didn't help. I also "uninstalled" the keyboard using the device manager, that didn't work either.
The laptop was bought in June 2014. I'm using an external USB keyboard right now.
Any ideas how to fix that issue?

  • Resored envy dv6 notebook and windows 8 won't load i dont have the discs

I bought an HP envy dv6 notebook used with Windows 8.  The person I bought it from did not remove her password or fingerprint scan, I was unable to reach them (i bought it out of state).  I did some research and found the best thing to do was a complete system restore - which i followed the directions and did.  I do not have the original driver disc.
I am now in a contant loop where it comes up with the first password which I successfully changed but would like to remove.  When it starts to load the administrator it goes into a constant loop of Windows did not load properly. Restart the computer.  And I fo around and around,  I have tried everything I have found on here and many other sires and still I am unable to get it to work.
I have a Windows 7 disc but I am afraid to even try it since I was told that the reset to factory settings would work and it doesn't I do not want to do anymore damage.
I did notice that the born on date say 00/00/0000  I am not sure if that is part of the problem or not

  • HP G72-657CL Notebook PC - Keyboard Malfunction

Hello.  I need an assist please.
HP G72-657CL Notebook PC - Keyboard Malfunction
    Windows 7
    There are no error messages.
My bestfriend (who is the owner of this notebook) reinstalled Windows 7. I do not recall why.  Then she loaned it to me while she is out of town.  Windows 7 began its required updates and some where in that process the keyboard began to malfunction.  By that I mean that the cursor will jump to another location in the field (area/paragraph) that I am typing in and the characters will appear there. Of course, I erase them and click the cursor back where it belongs and continue typing.  It will function correctly until it does it again.  Most times, it will go back to where ever it jumped before.  Sometimes it will seem to leave the field (say I'm commenting on Facebook) and the characters don't appear at all.  (It has jumped or relocated twice since I have been typing this.  I have corrected what appears so that you can read it.  Make that 3 times.)
[I installed and uninstalled Safari because I that that might be the problem.  It wasn't. I let Internet Explorer update to the latest version.  I installed Chrome. That is what I primarily use.  I installed and uninstalled Bing.]
Following instructions, I have deleted the driver and restarted the computer in order to reload the driver to no avail.  I ran the Microsoft Fix-it tool which worked for a brief time the first time.  Subsequent attempts did nothing.
I went to the HP/Support page to get a new driver or the original driver for the keyboard.  Following instructions, all I could find was a driver for the touchpad. So....that not being the problem, I did not download it.
I need to move forward and install MS Office and everything else (including anti-virus/malware software) that belongs on here, however I don't see the point in moving forward when typing is a problem.  (Makes putting in passwords a real pain.)
I don't want to have to re-install Windows 7. (I don't think she left that disc with me anyway.) I don't know where to find the driver and I can't find any other solution or location for the correct original or up-to-date driver.
In case you are wondering, she left it with me because to use to get some work done.  This is not happening very effectively as I am sure you can imagine.
Oh yeah, it works perfectly with an external USB keyboard. Also she is on the phone and says that she wiped it and reinstalled Win 7 to get rid of viruses and junk. Also found out it was a 64-bit that someone made into a 32-bit for her but everything was working just fine.
Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

    Hi MovingForward,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I see you are having a problem where you cursor keeps jumping around when you are typing. The reason you can't find a keyboard is that there no keyboard driver to download it is a generic driver that comes as part of the Windows operating system. Uninstalling and starting the computer is the only way to reinstall the keyboard driver.
If the cursor is jumping around this is most likely going to an issue with your TouchPad not the keyboard. I had similar issues when I first started using a notebook because I kept accidentally touching the TouchPad and experienced the same frustrating issue with the cursor jumping. What I would recommend that you disable the TouchPad and plug in an external mouse and see if you are having the same jumping issue. You can disable the TouchPad but either double tapping in the upper left hand corner of the TouchPad and a light should come on. If your notebook doesn't have that feature then there is section on disabling the Touch Pad in his HP support document Using and Configuring the TouchPad. Please give that a try and let me know how it goes.

  • HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC - Keyboard not working

HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC - Keyboard not working
My Windows 8 - 64 bit  laptop keyboard stopped working. I tried to uninstall and reinstall as explained in the support pages. but doesn't seem to work.  Is it dead?   what is the solution.  Please help
    Thank you

    Hi,
While this could be a hardware issue, it's always worth trying the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand Keyboards, right click the entry 'Standard PS/2 Keyboard' and select Uninstall.
    Shutdown the notebook.
Then unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Note:  If the keyboard doesn't work when trying to access or navigate the Bios Menu, then this is probably a hardware fault.

  • HP Envy Touchsmart 15-j004sa keyboard skipping keys

    Hi,
I have just purchased a HP Envy Touchsmart 15-j004sa keyboard and am very happy with except for one thing. The keyboard keeps skipping keys.
This is most prominent around the centre of the keyboard. Where they keyboard seems to flex (is this normal?)
It appears that in order for a key to be registered as being pressed I need to press it directly in the centre of the key, which may be why it happens mostly with keys near the centre of the keyboard.
Is this something that can be fixed? I have seen reports of other users experiencing the same problem.
I dont want to return the laptop as it meets all my other requirements but this issue is just too frustrating to live with if it can not be resolved.
