HP Envy dv6 Trackpad issues

I have a Hp Envy dv6 with nVIdia GT630M graphics. A lot of times, my trackpad has died on me and has left me in the blind. And recently, after installing the new updates on 01/11/2014, the multi-finger gestures on the trackpad do not work. It would be a big favour if you can help me out here as it is getting really frustating to use my laptop.
Thanks,
SassaW.

  • Battery/charger ENVY dv6 7210us

I have an HP ENVY dv6 notebook PC, model 7210us, serial number: (Personal information removed), product number: C2M11UA#ABA
BIOS: F.25, Processor AMD-A8-4500M APU. This notebook is about 2 years old.
The problem is with the battery charging. Specifically, when plugged into the A/C the indicator states: "0%, Plugged In, Charging".  However, the battery is not charging. This problem started about a month ago. And it was around the time that I upgraded to Windows 8.1.
Thinking it was either the power cord or battery, I purchased a new battery and changed out the A/C power supply & cords.
First, the A/C supply change did not solve the problem, still 0%, Pluggd In, Charging.
Second, I replaced the battery with a new one. Initially the tray indicator stated 50%, Plugged In, Charging. But again, the battery was not being charged. It would remain at 50% until unplugged and then the battery would take over and begin draining. This continued until the new battery registered 0%, Plugged In, Charging.
Thinking it may be a driver issue:
Third, I followed youtube example where I uninstalled both battery and charger drivers located in Device Manager, powering down, reinstalling the battery and A/C then restarting the PC. The devices would reload on boot up. What i noticed was that the indicator, in the tray, would begin 'tanking' up, graphically showing that the battery symbol was 'filling'. It would do this for about 10 seconds, then stop, displaying an empty battery. Still the message 0%, Plugged In, Charging.
Fourth, I upgraded the BIOS to F.25. I used the HP Support Assistant to identify and install the upgrade. It was successful. I then tried the Third option again, with the same results, 0%, Plugged In, Charging.
Fifth, While in the HP Support Assistant, I ran the Battery Check tool and both batteries and both are O.K. per the HP Tool.
Sixth, I've followed HP Support note to hard reset, by removing the battery and A/C, holding the power button for 30 seconds and powering up, same problem.
The indicator light, located adjacent to the A/C plug into the computer, is 'orange' in color, indicating that it is charging. but again, 0%, Plugged In, Charging.  I've left the notebook plugged in for days, same problem. Also, I've left the notebook UN-plugged for days, same problem.
As I mentioned above, this problem started 'around' the time when I upgraded to Windows 8.1. Once upgraded, I immediately had issues with the built in WiFi not working. It was as if the notebook could not recognise the built in hardware.  I ended up using an external USB WiFi. Once installed, the internal WiFi began operating properly. The WiFi problem took my attention, so I cant be sure that the battery/charging problem happened at the same time; but I'm pretty certain it did, as it took a while for the battery to discharge as I keep it plugged into A/C when in the office.
I contacted HP support; but unfortunatly my notebook is out of warranty and HP requires payment for phone service. I did speak to both Hardware and Software specialists, but they were of little help. They did say that the problem was either soft or hardware and that they could determine software and fix that over the phone.
I am told that the charging system is seperate from the operating system. That there is a dedicated circuit on the System Board that could be the culprit. I'm not certain that's accurate.  I was hoping that the upgrade to 8.1 caused a software problem.
Can anyone give advice or help in identifing where the problem is? Or if this is a known problem?
I've tried to list as much detail as possible. Thank you in advance for your help.
    Sincerely,
    /Bill

    Hi @eusbs ,
    Welcome to the HP forum!
This is a wonderful place to find information and get input on your issues!
I grasp that after updating to Windows 8.1 you are experiencing a battery issue.  Thinking it could be the battery or power cord you replaced both the the issue remains.
You have tried troubleshooting the issue  to no avail.
You are correct there is a dedicated circuit on the motherboard that could be the issue.
I know you ran the HP Support Assistant to get the HP updates, but have you done all your Windows updates?
I  realize you have tested the batteries but did you try to calibrate them?
Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 8)
You could try a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).
I believe this will take you back to Windows 8  your original OS.  If you are again able to charge the battery, then it is not hardware.
If you are still unable to charge the battery after the refresh it is most likely the motherboard.
If it again charges, reinstall the Windows 8.1 update and if the issue remains please contactMicrosoft  support for assistance as it would seem to be  the update causing the problem.

  • Monitor problem with envy dv6-7214nr

I have a problem with my monitor.  At the very top there is a single line that keeps flashing.  What could the problem be?  A bad monitor?  Or something else?

    Hi Antlan,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY dv6-7214nr Notebook and getting a flashing line on the screen. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a system restore. You could check for a BIOS update.
    Hope this is helpful.

    Hi,
It's possible. However, there is no reason for that and it could be a bit tricky as one of the SSDs must be a mSATA drive. Means you have to dismantle the top cover to access the mSATA slot. One SSD in the mSATA slot and a common hard drive is a decent config for any computer.

  • HP Pavilion DV6 Webcam Issue.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6-6033cl with Windows 7 64 bit installed.
I have an issue with my webcam, it appears to turn on randomly every now and then.
Not longer than a week ago I thought this may have been a virus and I deleted my entire hard drive and installed Windows on the empty partition.
The webcam light just keeps turning on, I have no current software that uses it and i've only had windows reinstalled for about a week, I have a couple of virus protectors and nothing seems to make the webcam light stop until I restart the computer.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Resored envy dv6 notebook and windows 8 won't load i dont have the discs

I bought an HP envy dv6 notebook used with Windows 8.  The person I bought it from did not remove her password or fingerprint scan, I was unable to reach them (i bought it out of state).  I did some research and found the best thing to do was a complete system restore - which i followed the directions and did.  I do not have the original driver disc.
I am now in a contant loop where it comes up with the first password which I successfully changed but would like to remove.  When it starts to load the administrator it goes into a constant loop of Windows did not load properly. Restart the computer.  And I fo around and around,  I have tried everything I have found on here and many other sires and still I am unable to get it to work.
I have a Windows 7 disc but I am afraid to even try it since I was told that the reset to factory settings would work and it doesn't I do not want to do anymore damage.
I did notice that the born on date say 00/00/0000  I am not sure if that is part of the problem or not

  • Touchpad not working in HP ENVY-dv6

    Hi,
I have the same touchpad problem in my envy dv6 7382la laptop. I tried all possible solutions  detailed in the forum but none work. However i want try updating the Bios. There is a problem installing the last  version for win8 in my win8.1 OS???
(the page have not the last Bios version for win 8.1)
    Thanks,

    Hi tinti80,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having trouble with your touchpad. I am happy to help you with this.
Like you, I checked and I cannot see a specific Windows 8.1 BIOS on the HP ENVY dv6-7382la Notebook PC support page.
In the absence of the BIOS the best bet then would be to be sure all the other device drivers are up to date for windows 8.1
You mentioned that you did the troubleshooting detailed in the forum for your issue, but it looks like your post was moved so I cannot see what may have been done or what process you followed. Just in case I have included the following:
Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8)
Please double check that you have done all of those things.
If that does not help then in the absence of a windows 8.1 BIOS to try, I would try calling technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • Trackpad issues on Macbook Pro 15"

Hi!  I'm experiencing trackpad issues with a Macbook Pro 15" Model A1286. The battery had recently swollen after a long and productive life of about 5 years. Assuming this was a fair life/usage for a battery I have ordered a replacement from Apple.
While waiting for the replacement battery and following advice from other users, I removed the battery and have the power lead connected to prevent damage from the swollen battery.  However, the trackpad now only appears to work the cursor movements around the screen and does not register clicks without the battery in place - it's as if it's got nothing to push against.  I'm guessing that the swollen battery may have caused damage to the trackpad, but won't know until the new battery arrives.
Do I just need to be patient and wait for it's arrival or are there any suggestions of how to rectify this please?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • Trackpad issues on Macbook Pro, new June 2009

I have been unable to resolve a trackpad issue that began this afternoon on my Macbook Pro. The computer was new in June. I was playing an online computer game, and it seemed that drag was locked on even though I hadn't changed any settings. Movements of the mouse dragged the window. The drag would not release with 1 click, 2 finger click etc. When I tried typing, the letters selected and replaced as soon as I typed new ones. After several restarts with the same behavior occurring, I reloaded the Snow Leopard 10.6 OS. I originally installed it about 2 weeks ago, and it has been working fine until now. After the reinstallation, the trackpad will not register most clicks of the trackpad. It will register taps, but it refuses to let the user click and drag. I have Microsoft Vista installed in Boot Camp and the trackpad is operating with the same glitches on boot camp. Clicks of the trackpad do not register most of the time. If they do, I have to click very hard, and even then it doesn't always work.
