HP Envy h8.1534 drops wifi after Windows 8.1 upgrade

After upgrading my HP Envy h8-1534 from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1, now my computer drops out of my wifi network after about 10 minutes or so abruptly stopping work.  I cannot pick up the Wifi again as it will not find the system - I have to reboot my entire computer, whereupon it will pick up the network.  Other devices on the network - Toshiba laptop, iPhone, Kindle Fire -(not always on at the same time the network drops on the desktop) don't seem to be affected, and still connect.  This is a HUGE problem.   All indications appear that it's a driver issue but HP assistant tells me that all my drivers are up to date.  My security has not changed since I had Windows 8.0 and it worked fine then.  The computer did not drop off the network like this before I updated to Windows 8.1.   Please help!

Welcome to the HP Forums  MillaMagia,
I see by your post that the USB isn't being recognized.
I can help you with this issue.
Are you using the same USB cable? (known good USB cable)
You want to use the normal USB slot 2.0 cable and not the latest USB 3.0.
USB 3.0 are supposed to be backwards compatible.
Try another USB port on the Laptop, some of the USB ports are more powered then others.
I have provided a document to see if the printer is partially recognized in the device manager, which is causing the printer not to be recognized again. (the uninstall from the CD should have removed the entry and the printer from the registry)
Leave the printer turned on and the USB cable connected directly to the computer and the printer's power cord directly into a wall outlet.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
Here is a document for Identifying problems in Windows Device Manager.
Check to see if there are any hardware driver conflicts, you might see a ! mark or a red x beside a device with a conflict or unknown device, look under universal serial bus controllers, look for USB printing support or mass storage device, delete the entry by right clicking and select uninstall, OK.
Let me know how it was listed. (screen shots welcome)
If this is a Laptop then check the power management settings.
Access the device manager. Windows 8-How do I access the Device Manager.
Select universal serial bus controllers from the list, for each USB root hub, right click and left click on properties, for power management remove the check mark for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". It allows the computer to limit or turn off power for this device.
Disconnect the USB, run the full uninstall and reinstall the printer software again.
If you need further assistance, let me know.
    Have a nice day!

First of all you need to get into safemode
for that press f8 or del key while starting the computer
then you will get many options there you must go to safemode
Secondly ,after getting to safemode go to 1.control panel ->2.Device Manager->3.Disable AMD HD Graphics
    Thats all
then restart your computer to get into normal mode
May be if you upgrade your amd hd driver your black screen problem will be gone

  • S20 Lan Network drops out after Windows 10 upgrade

Upgrade went ok and everything seems to work ok, but the network drops out after some downloads. Adapter gets disabled and cannot be enabled unless i perform a reboot. The network adapter is a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet. Installed the latest Lenovo System Update but that did not find any new drivers.

The network speed went down from approx 50 Mbps to 1.8 Mbps after the upgrade! So it is surely a network driver problem.

  • Unable to start after Windows 7 Pro upgrade, am I crazy?

I'm now on my fourth try and I'm about to lose my patience.
I purchased a T400 6475-B14 with Vista, 32 bit.  I purchased a copy of Windows 7 Professional upgrade.  I am installing the 64 bit disc.  Currently the machine has 2GB of ram, but I ordered 4GB (2X2GB) of RAM from Lenovo and it should be here in a few days.  Additionally, since the machine is still under warranty Lenovo is sending me the restore discs (I think that's what they are called) and they should be here in a few days as well.
On my three previous attempts I upgrade the OS and everything seems to be fine.  However when I go to the Lenovo site it can't detect my system.  That seems a bit odd, but I can deal with it.  I put in all of the machine info and download the Toolbox.  Once I did that tells me to download the System Updater, but for some reason it forwards me to the link for Vista/XP.  I then manually find the System Updater, Win 7 64 bit, download and install it and it finds and installs the PowerManager, Connections, Recovery and Repair, etc.
I don't seem to have any problems until I shut down the machine.  When I go to restart, the machine hangs at the 4 color Microsoft logo.  After a few minutes (5-10) it gives me the option to try and restore to a previous point and fix the machine.  However each time it tells me that the system is unable to repair itself.  I then reboot and hit the F11 button at the THINKPAD screen and restore to a previous version.
Last night, after the two previous restorations failed to give me a stable machine I completely reinstalled the OS.  Everything seemed to be working fine again.  However this time I rebooted after each update, to see where the problem might be.
I had downloaded all of the System updater info except for the R & R and C++.  I installed C++, but it didn't require a restart.  I think installed the R & R, installed it and then machine rebooted.
Then the same thing happened again!!!!!!!!
I went into the diagnostics and it came the the following:
    Root Cause Found:
A recent driver installation or upgrade may be preventing the system from starting.
    Repair Action: System Restore
Result: Failed.  Error code = 0x1f
Repair action: System filed integrity check and repair
Result: Failed.  Error code = 0x490
    Time taken = 945178ms
I'm going to re-install Windows 7 again, but this is starting to really drive me crazy (granted it's a short road, but still!).
Can anyone help me understand what I'm doing wrong?  I'm not trying to do anything crazy and I'm following the instructions to the letter but I still can't seem to get my system to work!!!!!!
Any/all help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    GBA

    Hi,
You are doing (trying to do) exactly what I did when I punted Vista (good riddance!) and updated to Win 7 Pro 64 on my T400.  I don't see anything obvious that you are doing wrong.  Here's what I did:
Installed Win 7 upgrade as a clean install. Then ran Windows update.  Then installed ThinkVantage System Update for Win 7, and let it do its thing,  No problems.
Is that the updater you installed?

  • Problems with Twist Before and after Windows 8.1 Upgrade

I'm not sure if this is a problem on Windows' end or Lenovo's, but here it goes. Problems AFTER Windows 8.1 update:
1.) When I close the computer, even though the power management settings are set to put the computer to sleep, it only goes to sleep about 50% of the time. If I don't catch it, that means the battery will drain completely while I'm under the impression it's sleeping. The kicker is, even if I do catch it, I can't get the computer to turn back on. The screen stays black until I hold the power button down and force the computer to turn off and restart it.
2.) iTunes will not open. I don't get any numbered error message, just a message that it failed. I've tried running iTunes in compatibility mode, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, to no avail.
    Problems BEFORE:
1.) When I first got the computer, it was super quiet. Now the fan is pretty loud and buzzy. It seems that it may even be brushing something, because if I push the bottom up ever so gently, the sound goes down by half. Not a huge issue, but especially noticeable when I'm in tablet mode.
I know that at least the last one isn't a unique problem. I can kind of live with that, but the first two are really driving me nuts.

I made the mistake of loading W8.1 on my Twist without realizing how raw and bug prone the preview really could be.  The backout would require reloading a lot of applications, and this is not my primary PC, so I am toughing it out.  Saw updates load.  Current build is 9431.
I am currently uninstalling software and updates until I get a stable environment again.  Here is some general feedback...
I have not had an issue with the Lenovo System Update running.  I suggest you do ONE update at a time.
50% of the shutdown/reboots fail and I need to hard power off with the power button
Manually loading the latest Intel video driver software caused MAJOR problems.  Many programs simply did not run and everything was locking up.  Backing that out motivated me to remove other stuff.  The Lenovo System Update is offering to install a driver which I will attempt after all other firmware and drivers are updated.
I use the Classic Shell v3.6.8 on the desktop.  I thought the 8.1 would return the start button, but I assume that Classic Shell is overriding that.
Like others, I have had trouble getting the Juniper VPN software to load and work.  Trying to back everything out, but the virtual juniper nic is still showing up in the device manager.

  • Sql Server 2008 side effect after Windows 8.1 upgrade

    Hi
After installing Windows 8.1 upgrade, I can't see a SQL SERVER instance.
I had Windows 8.0 Enterprise and SQL Server 2008 R2 installed and an instance named SVR12/SIMBD
All Windows 8.1 upgrade worked fine, no crashes no creepy messages
But now I can't to connect to the instance, nevertheless SQL Server Management Studio detects the instance  SVR12/SIMBD
Looking at services runnings there are a Service named
SQL Server instead SQL Server (SIMDB)
    as before the OS upgrade
Thanks in advance for any help, I'm stuck
    Saludos David

What do you mean by "I can't see a SQL SERVER instance"?
Start by using SQL Server Configuration Manager to see what SQL Server instances are installed and if they are running. (If you don't have an icon for Configuration Manager, try C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mmc.exe /32 C:\windows\SysWOW64\SQLServerManager12.msc )
Or start services.msc and check the services that are installed and running.

  • Wireless button (f12) not working after windows 8 pro upgrade

Hi: I have seen several posts from forum members with the Broadcom wireless adapters with the same issue as you are having. I don't know if anyone was able to resolve the issue. I had suggested trying the Windows 7 broadcom driver and see if that works. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-107849-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5255857&sw_lang= If you decide to take this suggestion for action, and the driver doesn't install automatically, try manually installing it by going to the device manager, under network adapters, click on the Broadcom wireless adapter. Click on the driver tab. Click on update driver. Select the Browse my computer for software method and browse to the installation folder that was created when you ran the file. That file is located in C:\SWSetup\sp57965. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and hopefully the driver will install. That is the only idea I can come up with. I am very surprised by this as Broadcom usually has good drivers that work. Paul

I am having the same problem. Bought a dv6-7138us with Windows 7. Upgraded to Windows 8 via promo offer. F12 (Wifi toggle) key worked fine. Then updated new BIOS version "F.13". Now I cannot toggle the F12 key. The Wifi is permanently turned on (which is better than having it stuck in off), but I would like my toggle ability back.  Sometimes I go to the coffee shop to type something and I don't want to run down the battery constantly searching for a Wifi signal when I don't need the net. Have you guys found a solution yet? I tried putting the PC to sleep then waking it, but the Wifi key is still stuck in the on position. Thanks.

  • Lenovo B590 I3 slow after Windows 8.1 upgrade

Am looking for the best fix for slow laptop after Windows upgrade from 8 to 8.1

Dear, alanj9za and somran. Mostly laptop runs slow issue occurs due to broken Windows registry entries. Fixing registry will help you to boost up your laptop. You need to download and install a Registry Cleaner program to fix corrupt or broken registry entries. To download a reliable registry cleaner, go to famous website download.cnet and search there Reginout. Which I personally use and recommend the friends. After downloading run all of its tools one by one except Internet Optimizer, to clean all the junks and registry errors from your computer.

    Hi
    can anyone help,
I have trawled the web to no avail.
I can no longer project the laptop screen to my plasma,
I have tried the Win + P buttons and nothing happens, turned on amd off with the hdmi cable connected etc.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Palacio
So you upgraded the system to Win 8.1 as mentioned here:
    http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-message/
From my point of view some of the Win 8.1 drivers are either missing, not upgraded or not installed properly.
Check this driver installation order and update the drivers if essential:
    Intel Wireless Display - Uninstall
    2 Windows 8.1 update - Install
3 TOSHIBA Desktop Assist - Upgrade
4 Intel Display Driver - Upgrade
5 AMD Display Driver - Upgrade
6 Realtek Audio Driver - Upgrade
