HP Envy m6 Broken Hinge/Split Screen
Hi!
So I purchased this HP Envy m6 from Future Shop in Canada. 2 years later, it seems that the plastic covering left hinge (if the laptop were positioned as if you were using it) has broken off, and as a result the screen near the hinge has actually split open so that you can see the wires inside the screen. Attempting to close the lid will result in the split cracking open more, and to close it fully you need to push down on the screen to close the crack.
I am afraid to use my laptop further out of the fear that the crack will enlarge. Enclosed is an image of the issue. The screen itself works fine and so does the laptop.
What should I do now? Thanks.

Hello, I seem to have the same issues as a lot of sleekbook users. I now have a split between the screen and the cover near the left hinge that happened when I went to close the computer. I have never dropped the computer or mishandled it in the 2 years that I have had the product. Is this issue a design issue? Has anyone had success with HP resolving this issue for them? Thank you!

I've been reading posts from others who've been having the same issues with broken hinges on the HP envy. My daughter's laptop is, of course, now out of warranty and a hinge is broken. If so many people are having the same problem, is there anything that can be done? It isn't that old, and I'd prefer not to have to buy another one.
You could order a new hinge kit by entering your Model number at HP PartSurfer:

Broken hinges on HP Envy Sleekbook
Hi - I hope someone can help. I bought a HP Envy Sleekbook for my home business less than a year ago from PC World in Bath, UK.
I have the same issue of broken hinges and damaged screen surround as a number of people on here. The problem has simply arisen from opening and closing the screen - the laptop has never left my house, nor been dropped or mistreated in any way.
Could somebody please point me in the right direction to get it fixed. I have the original receipt dated 31/01/13 and box.
Many thanksI have forwarded your post to the right people for their review. You should hear back from someone shortly via Private Message on this forum.

Broken hinges on HP Envy 15 Touchsmart j100 TX Notebook
I bought a HP Envy 15 Touchsmart j100 TX last year. Within the first few months, the right-edge of the hinges beneath the monitor loosened. I showed it to a HP Gadgets and Gizmos retailer (from where I got the laptop) and they said its just a couple of loose screws, that I can screw in and keep using. Which is how I used it for over the year.
But now the right hinge has completely come off and I submitted the laptop for repair. The warranty is expired a few months back, and the repair was estimated at INR 17000, approx USD 275, (both top cover and base need to be replaced). There was no physical damage, no crack, nothing. I am not sure how they ascertained the need to replace pretty much the whole laptop body.
I feel disheartened and cheated. If I had been given the right advise by the retailer, I could have gotten things fixed in time within warranty. Now looking at all these forums and seeing how common the broken hinges problem really is, i feel terribly stupid.
HP, how can you let such things happen to your customers? What should I do now to get my laptop fixed, other than paying atrocious money?@kinshuksunil

Hi,
The hinges on my HP Envy have broken from normal daily use (opening and closing). It is now all but impossible to close and then reopen the machine, forcing me to leave the machine open 24/7 (also making it impossible to transport the machine).
This seems to be a design flaw and I would like to know if HP has had a recall on this particular piece of hardware. The problem is really frustrating because it has turned an excellent machine into a very crippling liability.
I recently opened a case and recieved a phone call from a case manager but was unable to answer. When calling back I never could get a hold of anybody.
Thanks!try this phone no

Like may others, I also have a broken hinge on my ENVY m6. Looking at these posts it seems to be a frequent problem and something HP should stand behind. I'm out of warranty, but am not ready to purchase a new computer. How can I get this repaired?

BROKEN HINGE/SCREEN!!! My last HP was two years old when the right hinge started acting funny, I babied it but to no avail it broke. It broke on the inside as well as the outside, like came unattached inside. I chauled it up to being used heavily and bought a new HP (because I love them). Fast forward almost one year to the day of the new one purchase date and boom, broken again. What is funny if that my warranty was up 3 days ago and now it breaks. Seems like the hinge cover is fine, it is actually inside where it is broken. I opened the screen today and it almost came completely apart. What is the deal?
I too am suffering Toshiba`s broken hinge problem. When I called they said that they do not have a problem and never have known one break(what liars they are) when I called them up with a broken left hinge same as you. They wanted £200 to fix it and £80 just to send back to me, as they had sent it to Germany from the UK to see if there was a problem??? I have asked my Bank to refund my money that I bought the laptop (Toshiba Satellite) under the "goods not of merchantable quality" law in the UK as I had bought it on my credit card. Toshiba certainly do have a manufacturing problem with their laptops and should recognise this fact instead of employing people to deliberately tell people that they do not have any recorded problem with their hinges. I will never buy another Toshiba product ever again as the so called Guarantee is not worth the paper it is written on....

Got it in May 2010. The left hinge is almost coming off. Called up Toshiba support and after 20Qs, was told that this is a physical damage and will not be covered. It will cost 150-250$ to get this repaired. I was not satisfied with this as the laptop has been handled well and have never seen this kind of issue with any other Dell laptops I have. When I pushed back, I was told that some supervisor will view my case and probably respond on Monday (12/20/2010)
On a hunch searched for broken hinge on the site and saw a number of posts about this problem.
I am now even more convinced that there is a manufacturing defect which Toshiba has not bothered to solve. My cynical view is that getting 150$ for each of these problem might be netting a good margin.
Have posted this to add my own experience and be counted.
Will update once I speak to the aforementioned supervisor on Monday

I need to get the parts to fix the broken hinge. I see parts online for a DV7-3165DX (for example) and other similar model designations. Which model does QE360UA#ABA equate to?
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi!,
HP Partsurfer indicates the part you need for your model #: QE360UA#ABA is HP Spare number 665599-001 Hinge kit.

Broken hinge on a Macbook Air - how to fix it?
Hi,
I have a Macbook Air which has worked perfectly all this time, but a few days back one of the hinges broke. The system still works fine, but opening the lid seems to strain the body structure. Upon opening the bottom cover, I noticed that a wire is running through the broken hinge, which seems to be getting strained when opening and closing. I'm presently in India and I took it to an authorized service store, but they said that it requires a screen replacement and I think they're just trying to "upgrade" the repair to a more expensive option!
Has anyone faced this problem before or can recommend what parts should actually be replaced? I don't want to do it myself, but I want to go into a better service center armed with details on what they have to do!
Thanks,
Sid

Satellite 2450 -101 Broken Hinge - Disassembly guide required
Hi does anyone know where I can get hold of a disassembly guide to replace my broken hinge? I have the part but want to make sure I strip it down correctly. Any help gratefully received.
Hi
I would also not recommend removing and opening the notebook by yourself if you have no enough experience. You could damage some parts instead of repairing ;)
Every notebook technician could do this job for some bucks. so asks someone in your area.
By the way; I found an interesting website how replacing Satellite 2435 LCD screen. This notebook is similar to Sat 2450.
Maybe its useful:

I wrote this code to get the date for the first day of the week. So if todays date is 05/01/2002 it should out put 04/28/2002. The problem that I am having is that it will give me 05/29/2002. If I run this in a plain java file I get the correct date.
