HP Envy Phoenix 810 suddenly shutwdown

Since the beginning I had my HP Envy Phoenix (so even freshly installed from the factory), after working on it for a few minutes, it suddenly rebooted, for no apparent reason (e.g. no specific heavy software running) . After this 'automatic' restart, this rebooting behaviour is not present anymore.
However, each time I start up my computer, the same sudden reboot behaviour happens. It happens after a random time somewhere between 1 and 10 minutes.
In fact I learnt to live with it.
But then today, this  (or a similar) reboot behaviour suddenly appeared after a few hours of working (having lost some work unfortunately) , it happend a few times in a row. Also no heavy software was running, just some MS Office sofware. At a certain moment, I felt very stressed, because the computer didn't startup anymore, even not when pushing the on(-off) button and even not when having it completely disconnected from powersupply for about 5 minutes.
Luckily after 30 minutes or so it wanted to start up again ... although it resided several minutes on the "HP-logo only" screen.
What could be possible reasons for this behaviour and how to solve it?
Thank you

One change, with the MS Windows 8/8.1 operating system,
is the change in the operation of the Sleep, Hybernate, and Hybrid Sleep Modes.
I would first check those settings.

    Hello,
I bought HP ENVY Phoenix 810-200nc with windows 8.1preinstaled. I wiped up win 8 and install windows 7 proffesional 64 bit, but USB 3 dont working (mouse, keyboard its ok, but external disk no), USB 2 it's absolutely ok.  THX.

Can you post the PCI\VEN character string for the USB device that lacks a driver?
The following image is an example. Right click any device without a driver and select properties to invoke the properties window. See the cues I pointed out in the Properties window to get to the PCI\VEN character string.

  • Hp envy phoenix 810 shuts down by itself when not in use

I purchased a HP Envy Phoenix 810 December 2013 and use Windows 8 365 on it.  This is a home computer and is used for general purposes - no gameing, etc.  It will just shut itself down when we are not using it for awhile, but not on a consistent basis.  For example, early Sunday it had shut itself down sometime, I started it in the morning, and twice more it shut itself down through the day.  I finally turned it back on Monday afternoon, and it stayed on through the evening and night, and it was still on Tuesday morning.  I can't seem to find a pattern to when it decides to shut down.  I've run Norton, Malwarebytes, Superantivirus and haven't found anything.  I have the same computer & software (Norton, Microsoft 365) at work and haven't had a problems with it.  I've updated it with HP's updates.  Any suggestions?

Usually when a computer shuts down it is because of an overheat problem but doubtful it it is a idle.  Be sure that it is no near any heat source and that the fans are clean with no obstructions and use a can of air to clean the inside of the computer.
Another cause is the power supply, either the PSU is faultering or the wall socket may be getting some interupts.  Worth checking out.
Have a look at your power settings in the Control Panel, see this site:

  • Facebook won't load on HP ENVY Phoenix 810-135qe CTO Desktop PC running Windows 7

I just bought a new HP ENVY Phoenix 810-135qe CTO Desktop PC running Windows 7. It arrived Tuesday. I set it up, and for some reason it will not run Facebook on either of the browsers I use (Internet Explorer and Chrome).
I uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome a couple of times, uninstalled the trial of McAfee and installed the Norton antivirus software I bought. Cannot figure it out. Facebooks works fine on all over devices in my home, so it is not a FB issue. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Thanks, Harry. I may have gotten it fixed... I downloaded and ran AVG (I've used it on other computers with no problem) and it flagged a program called browser something-I-don't-remember-what as suspicious. This program may have come installed on the computer and an icon for it was showing up in the hidden icons.  I don't believe Norton or the McAfee trial spotted it.
I uninstalled the suspect program and opened Chrome. A message then popped up, and I believe it was from AVG, telling me that Chrome was configured to use a proxy server but I didn't have one specified. The msg gave detailed instructions to go to the Advanced settings in Chrome and select the LAN box and then uncheck the box telling it to use proxy servers. I hadn't been this deep into the Chrome settings before. In other windows when I was asked if I wanted to use a proxy server I said no. Once I unchcked this box, Facebook  booted up on both Chrome and Internet Explorer. Actually, when I was installing Norton, some proxy server settings popped up and Norton advised me to delete them if I had not specified them. Since we don't use proxy servers, I did. But FB didn't work before I installed Norton.
I had not heard of the iPv6 launch. I will check my adapter setting and see what is selected. If everything is still working on that computer today, I won't disable anything. Thanks again for your help!

I recently purchased a Phoenix 810 with Integrated Bluetooth 4.0 and Wireless LAN 802.11a/b/g/n/ac featuring Dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) 2 x 2 MIMO technology.  when I purchased the system I used the Bluetooth to connect to external bluetooth speakers with windows 8.1.  I could easily see this menu option in my network option in the control panel.  Recently I tried to use the speakers but could not however they show in my system devices.  I also tried to add new and discovered thar Windows is not longer showing anything with Bluetooth in the control panel.
I have downloaded latest drivers but Windows still does not recognize bluetooth in the control panel anywhere.  Any idea why I could setup and pare bluetooth deviced and now I can't?

I am running Windows 8.1 with Bluetooth and Bluetooth does not show in the Control Panel.  Look for the Bluetooth icon on the task bar.  See the below image.

Hello,I am looking to add a new harddrive and a ssd drive to my ENVY Phoenix 810qe Desktop,Anybody have any experience with this can tell me what I need to do? I would like to know what brand drives I should get, also any brackets and screws I would need.would any 3.5 wd hardrive fit into the slots?..Thanks!!!

    Hi,
Please post the HP product number for your PC. How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers.
Most 3.5" hard drives and 2.5" SSDs will functionally work in your PC.
The big challenge is finding the correct adapter, screws and possible slide guides.
HP Partsurfer would be the place to start for acquiring the required hardware.

  • My Book 3.0 (1TB, USB 3.0) detection problem with Envy Phoenix 810-135qe

I have  a My Book 3.0 (1TB, USB 3.0)... The older My Book not the newer one... "My Book Essential" or something like that.
I was using it with W7 x64 backup utility on an older HP desktop (HP Pavilion a6560t) without issue up to the day my new HP Envy 810-135qe arrived. I downloaded the latest drivers from WD support, and the thing PnPed fine off the non-powered USB 3.0 on the back of the 810. However, the 810 drops connection after sleep, hibernation, lock, or simply just over time. I've run diagnostics on the WD and the cables, all checked out fine. I tried shutting off power saving to the USB 3.0s in device manager (just a guess), and that seemed to work for a few weeks, however I'm still having the detection issue periodically. All of my drivers are up to date on the HP side. I'm fully reformatting the WD now to see if that might somehow fix the issue (I'll update in a few days on how that worked out).
Anyone have any idea what's amiss? I suspect something with the BIOS. HP chat support has been no help (they go through the same checks I've already done myself) and they got really spooky on another chat when I asked about adding a SSD as the boot drive (I knew it was an issue from here and other forums).... Handed me off to second tier support, and all they would tell me is that they couldn't tell me anything... Basically, no support for any config except for how it was shipped because it's a "custom build" (yes, buyer's regret big time).
Secondly, anyone running a similar config with a en external back up that's running smoothly? My WD is getting old so I was thinking of one of the newer portable USB 3.0 HDDs (both 2.5 and 3.5). My specs follow.

    Anglogator, welcome to the forum.
I have the exact computer (See my signature below.).  I have installed a Samsung EVO 840 500 GB SSD.  It works absolutely great.  Samsung SSD's seem to be the only brand that boots without changing any settings in the UEFI Firmware.  If you decide to buy one, I will be glad to walk you through the installation process.
I also have a "WD My Book Essentials" 2 GB external hard drive.  It works perfectly without making any changes to the BIOS.

  • Envy phoenix 810-209 rebooting problem

    I've got a rebooting problem.
everytime unplug my computer and plug in,turn it on,then exactly 10 minuites after,my computer has rebooting automatically once.
and i keep using, then no more rebooting happened.
But i turn it off, unplug it,plug in,turn it on,then it happen again exactly 10 minuite after.
    Please help me.....

    Hi,
That is a tough one to diagnose.
Do you have your PC set to display bluescreen error messages?
Open Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings.
    Open Startup and Recovery.
    Uncheck Automatically Restart.
    Click OK.
You should be able to see any error codes when this happens again if the computer is blue screening.
That should not happen under any circumstance. But if I am following what is happening, and your PC only does this after you turn it off and remove/restore AC current, why are you repeating this action?
Does your PC work correctly, including rebooting and cold boots, if you don't unplug from the household power supply?

  • 8.1 64 bit Desktop Envy Phoenix Slow running system

I just purchased the »HP ENVY Phoenix 810-130qe CTO Desktop PC
I have updated all required updates, updated firmware for router and modem. The system is running 8.1 64 bit, in Windows 11. It is continiously freezing on webpages. it stops  scrolling to reload, This problem is in hotmail.com (direct from explorer), myfitnesspal.com, facebook, foxnews.com. It is becoming very frustrating on a very expensive desktop directly purchased from HP. My husband has a new ASUS 8.1 and has no problems with downloads or uploads or freezing. I am within my 20 day return of this system. And I did return this same system a month ago due to this same issue. Please help in this. If Windows 11 and 8.1 are having issues, please let the consumer know that it is being worked on.

Update!      so far 2+ hours and not a single freeze or slow load.
I was on  Microsoft.com forum site:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie11-iewindows8_1/internet-explorer-with-windows-81-very...
And I believe I've got the help to fix the problems.  see link above.
The problem is HP SimplePass, specifically, OPBHOBrokerDsktop.exe and HPSimplepassBHOBroker. Killing both of those processes solved the problem. They are running by default on the new machines.
I uninstalled HP SimplePass and all is good.
A web search of SimplePass Windows 8 brings up hundreds of hits where people are having difficulty with it working on Win8.1.  Fact is, working or not it's killing performance in a big way.
Woohoo!!!    so far so good!           After hours this week working with internet provider, router, and HP.    Simple answer!!       Hopefully HP can work on the issues in HPSimplePass,   but in the mean time I"m not running on my system.

  • HP Envy Phoenix shuts down when gaming

    Hello!
So I'm having some problems with my brand new computer. I'll dump the info below. Anyway, it works perfectly fine with other processeses such as Photoshop and Chrome, though the moment I launch a game that has anything higher than 2D graphics, it will crash, shutting down a mere 5 - 10 minutes after launching and playing the game. While playing, the graphics render perfectly and there is no lag whatsoever. But it'll just shut down with no warning at all after a certain period of time.
I've eliminated hard disc problems as well as software viruses, since I've tested the games on other computers. If it helps, the games I've tried to play are the Sims 3, Skyrim and Phantasy Star Online 2. There's no overheating, and the CPU looks perfectly fine from what I can see.

    Hello again Akairuka,
Since the computer shut down without warning in the middle of the hardware test, I recommend backing up all of your important information, and performing a system recovery of your computer. To do this, please follow this document on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8) as well as this resource on Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8). These steps should help you restore your computer back to its original factory settings.
Once your computer has been restored, please re-install one of the video games that caused the issue in the first place. If the problem persists during gameplay, I recommend contacting our technical support at 1-800-474-6836. • Upgrade My HP ENVY Phoenix 810qe Desktop

Hi I Have HP ENVY Phoenix 810qe Desktop With Windows 8.1
Can I Replace My NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745? With The NEW NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Thank you for the additional information.
There are two main considerations when adding a video card: 1) the wattage that it takes to run it properly and 2) the length of the card.
You can determine if the card will fit by making a template and trying it in the space provided.  It should fit with plenty of room for good airflow.  You should add an inch for any additional PCIE power connectors
Here is the computer.  It has a 500W power supply unit (PSU).  The GTX 970 requires a PSU of at least 500W.  The PSU in the computer would work if you didn't do any further upgrades.  The length of the card that I reviewed was 9.5".  HP offers a GTX 745 4 GB card.  These cards are made specifically for HP.
As you can see in my signature below, I have an Envy Phoenix 810-135qe.  It is a great computer.  I added a Samsung EVO 840 SSD.  This made it even faster.

  • Can I install a SSD on an optical drive in a HP Envy Phoenix

I just purchased a customized HP ENVY Phoenix Desktop - 810-350se CTO with a Raid 5 configuration (3 x 2 TB), but I noticed and researched that it seems that is better to have a SSD installed to have your computer access data faster, of course, I want to use it for the OS installed on it.  So I have two questions?
1.) Can I change the configuration so I can add an SSD on a optical drive? (This will be the 4th drive). Since I am already using 3 HDD on a Raid 5 configuration and there wouldn't be any more space left, I am assuming that I can only use an empty optical drive space and install an SSD?
2.) Is there a limitation of how many drives and capacity HDD can be installed on the motherboard?
My proposed solution is to keep the 3 HDD and install a  4th drive (SSD) on the optical drive and use it for the OS (Windows 8.1).
Any suggestions and/or recommendations is highly appreciated it.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Your PC is already using a Windows 8 boot loader and if you load the SSD in UEFI mode then you will add another Windows 8 boot loader to the eligible boot device menu.  This will lead to confusion.  I would suggest that you avoid this situation by trying the following procedure:
Be sure to create the external HP recovery media
Install the SSD on port 1 or 2
Disable secure boot in the BIOS and switch to legacy mode
Boot into the Intel OPROM and rebuild the RAID 5 array
Boot back into the BIOS and enable UEFI mode
Boot the external HP recover media and load the SSD (SSD recommended size is 240 GB or larger)
Once you are up and running then go into Disk Management and format the RAID array as GPT
The above procedure may or may not work but it's what I would first try.

  • HP ENVY Phoenix h9-1420t CT slows down 100x after 30 minutes of startup, requires constant reboot

Windows 8, now Windows 8.1 does the same. After about 30 minutes everything is so slow.
For example: at first start, start up Control Panel is less than 1 second. After 30 minutres, Control panel takes 1Min 45 seconds to open. A Internet Explorer search goes from 1 second to over 1 minute.
Control Panel shows less than 3% total CPU and only a fraction of the total RAM is used. There are no strange applications running.
Running Paid version of Kaspersky. Run Microsoft Defender - no virus or registry errors.
Twice HP support instantly determines (with no facts) that it is a "virus" and had me install the Windows 8 OS from scratch. This didn't change anything either time. I am a little upset at all that time wasted because it requires installing all of the updates, then MS Office 2013. That is all we are trying to use on this machine. It is not a gaming or web surfing machine. We can't use it for MS Office because it failes to respond after about 30 minutes.
I have updated all the November drivers for motherboard, drive and others listed.
I manage over a dozen computers, this is a problem for the HP Envy Phoenix since day 1.
We are holding off on ordering any more HP in 1 qtr 2014 if this can't be fixed.
We won't accept it has a virus again unless HP can at least provide some proof or reasonable instructions.
We are very open to getting this fixec, but have spent over 100 hours of time and lost huge productvity. Our employee is working on an XP machine so they can stay more productive.

    Hi Tesla3D,
One item of possible interest in your post is running both Kaspersky and Windows Defender.
You should turn off Defender in Control Panel.
That could be what is slowing down your system.
Note to self, check date of post!
