HP Envy Touch Screen / Touchscreen dead after Windows 10 install

Tonight I upgraded from Windows 8 whereby my touchscreen worked perfectly to Windows 10 whereby my touchscreen on my HP Envy laptop is totally non-responsive. Is there a fix for this problem? Does HP have a new driver or software that will fix this problem? Is this a Microsoft problem that we have to wait until and update? I have read where others have experienced the same. I cannot imagine Microsoft not supporting touch screens since it is required in tablets, phones and many cross over laptops and computer monitors these days. Please help

Update. The Edge Browser did not work until after several shutdowns and restarts over a couple of days. It was initially "not responding." Now it is working and the touchscreen capability is working - on the Edge browser. The touchscreen capability is not working in the Chrome browser but all other functionality is.

  • My HP Envy touch screen stopped working after getting an HP Bios update yesterday

Can someone please tell me how to fix my touch screen. I received an HP BIOS update which caused my touch screen to stop working. I've tried re-calibrating it but it won't accept my touch which tells me the screen is no longer enabled.
I tried finding where to enable and could not find where to enable finger touch. I've also tried looking for driver updates and the driver appears to be up to date.
    Thanks

I have a different type of TouchSmart, but this may work for you:
Press the Windows logo key + X (if using a Windows 8 computer -- if Windows 7, click the Start button, type Device Manager, and click Device Manager in the search results).
Select Device Manager from the list.
Click the little arrow next to Human Interface Devices to expand the list.
Click the touch screen driver (in my case, NextWindow Voltron Touch Screen).
Right-click, and select Enable from the list.
Click Yes if a dialog box asks if you are sure you want to enable the touch screen driver.
On some models, it isn't obvious which device in the list controls the touch screen. I have read in other posts that some people have fixed the problem by disabling and re-enabling each device.
If that does not work, you might try going to hp.com (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html) and clicking Drivers & Downloads.
In the search field, enter your product name or number, and then click Go. Select your operating system from the drop-down list under Select your operating system, and then click Next. If there are any available graphics drivers under Select a download below, click the plus sign next to Driver - Graphics, and then click the driver name. In the Download options and information window, click Download . Follow the onscreen directions to download the driver. Restart the computer.

  • C55T-A Touchscreen dead after Windows 8.1 Update

After updating my C55T-A5296 to Win8.1, I've lost all touchscreen functionality.
    Order of operations:
    1. Turn laptop on
    2. Run Service Station, run all updates. This included an update to BIOS v1.20
    3. Run Windows Update - Install all updatres.
    4. Download Windows 8.1 from Windows Store, and install.
    5. Reboot several times during install.
    6. Perform initial setup in 8.1, to include Wireless config, user info, etc.
    7. Run Service Station again - No new updates available.
    8. No touchscreen.
    9. Spend two weeks on the Internet determining that other Toshiba laptops have the same issue, and THEY got a new BIOS update to fix it.
    10. Give up and call support.
    11. Swear to never buy a Toshiba product again.
On the advice of support rep, I've wiped the machine back to Windows 8, and touchscreen funtionality was restored. I then went through the process of re-updating to Win 8.1, and the problem repeats.
In DevManager, I see "unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed)" I am unable to locate any TouchScreen device drivers for my model.
    Anyone have any advice?

  • Touch Screen is Dead

My HTC Incredible 2 Touch Screen has dead spots and when stopping buy the store I was asked "Do you have insurance, because if you did I would just give you a new phone. But your touchability is being lost so now you have to buy a new phone."
I am 19 months into my contract. Please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the insurance for the first year only?
I was told the best solution is to turn my phone on and off until the screen was usable. Come on, is this tech support?
I visited this website and it gave me steps to follow to reset the phone, claiming the touch screen prolems were caused most likely by a 3rd party app.
OK, so I reset the phone to the factory default.
Now the touch screen has more dead spots and I cant even do the initial set up on the phone. I am worse off than before. I am eligible for an upgrade, but do I want to spend more money to get into more problems with the same type of phone?
I hesitate to visit the store just to be told I need a new phone. I have not met anybody who hasn't heard the same solution, turn it on and off, if that doesn't work buy a new phone.

Brosiek, thank you for your post and explaining what you did to attempt to resolve the issue. There aren't any settings in the phone that could cause parts of the touchscreen to stop working, so that is why there wasn't much troubleshooting. It does sound like the phone needs to be replaced. The warranty is covered for one year unless you have an extended warranty. Insurance is for when the phone is damaged, lost, or stolen. Also, you mentioned purchasing the same type of phone with an upgrade. When eligible for an upgrade, you can choose any phone that we have available, but the pricing will vary. Upgrading would be the best option at this point unless you have an extended warranty.

  • Lenovo A1 - Touch screen not working after digitizer replacement

After dropping my tablet and breaking the digitzer, I ordered a replacement digitzer from a company in China. (It took about a month to get it) After watching this video, I was able to install my new digitizer and it finally looked new again....well at least the screen!
But.....when I powered up my tablet, the touch screen wasn't working..... I emailed back and forth with the company and they told me to install drive program, and send me a link to a site with a video, this site may have contained more than the video, but it was all in Chinese and I couldn't figure it out even with Google Translate. So I started researching. I thought I would try and load ICS on it, I thought, "Whats the worst thing that could happen?" it wasn't much more than a brick at this point anyways.
I found this website that let me through installing ICS on it. I had absolutly no expectations...but IT WORKED!!!! MY TOUCH SCREEN IS NOW WORKING!!!! I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!!!
When I was researching for this problem, there was absolutly no posts anywhere for "Touch screen not working after new digitizer". So I wanted to share my experience.

Yea you are correct.....it must be a hardware problem. You must contact service centre of Lenovo and get help from there.

    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the touch screen on your notebook is not detected after updating to Windows 8.1.
This would be the best place to start: Troubleshooting Touch Screen Issues in Windows 8. This is a great document that covers touchscreen issues from start to finish. Do not be alarmed that it states the document pertains to TouchSmart PC's, as the steps are the same.
It would also help to know which product you are using so I can give you more detailed information, such as driver downloads.

  • Aspire R7 572G touch screen stopped working after a windows 10 upgrade, pls help

I did a windows 10 update, but to my dismay I lost my touchscreen functions. I checked the properties on MY COMPUTER and it now says, pen and touch input not supported. Help pls

Hmmm.. I upgraded my R7 572G but my touch screen is ok. I'm not sure what you did. However, my problem was the screen does not auto-rotate in Windows 10. So I went to this folder to run as administrator to fix the auto rotate problem and it works. C:\OEM\Preload\FIXAUTOROTATE\EnableRotate.cmd

  • HP Envy touch screen no longer working

Not certain when but my touch screen is no longer working on my HP Envy?  Think it might have occurred during the Windows 8.1 upgrade.
Please provide a simple way to restore.  Pen and touch is no longer installed?

    Hello again dmcarswell,
Thank you for responding to my post requesting additional information. I am going to recommend that you review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 8), which in the section "Software and drivers installed" has the instructions you need to follow. As long as the drivers are available and you have an internet connection the HP Support Assistant should automatically find, download and install the drivers for you.
Now if you are still experiencing the same issue after doing this you may have to go into the Device Manager and manually uninstall the Graphics driver (ensuring it is deleted). Once you have done this manually download and install  the driver from the HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j063cl Notebook PC Drivers page.
Please re-post if you require additional support. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
Please click the "Thumbs Up" on the bottom right of this post to say thank you if you appreciate the support I provide!

  • Yoga 13 touch screen stopped working after update KB3000850, please help!

Hi, my Yoga 13 touch screen has been working fine until yesterday. The laptop came with Windows 8, and last year I upgraded to Windows 8.1 without issue. Yesterday, I installed optional update KB3000850 from Windows Update, and immediately the touch screen stopped working. I have tried the following methods, all without success:
    * Uninstall KB3000850 from Windows Update
    * Use Windows Restore to restore to the point before yesterday
    * Re-install Intel Chipset Driver from Lenovo official driver page
    * In Device Manager, uncheck all the "allow system to turn off to save power" options for the USB input devices under Human Interface Devices then restart
    * Two-button shutdown and restart
    * Install Lenovo Driver Manager and let it check for new drivers
    * Download Cando multi touch panel driver (Note: I could not install the driver because all I got was a .cab file which does not allow me to install)
As of now my touch screen is still not working. Computer Information page from Settings shows that there is no touch or pen device for my screen.
Can anybody help me with this? Thanks!

Very true, this has been a known problem since the first day Lenovo released the Yoga 13.
I need to send Lenovo a bill for my time spent rebooting.  So far i am on my 8th reboot.  In the past, around 5 reboots after winddows update would work.  This time... who knows.
Of course it always happens when you have a deadline.
Please post back if you have found a better soultion than system restore.
Thanks for posting this issue.  More users need to bring this to Lenovo's attention.

  • Touch screen wont boot after outage

Hello, My Home touch screen will not boot after outage. It was working on backup. Outage lasted 4 hours.Just a black screen, power indicator light is not on while plugged in. thanksJOhn

If you undo the stand and remove the battery cover you can access the battery and remove it (after removing the power). Then put everything back the way your found it and plug in the touchscreen it will be a full power reset. If it still donesn't work you will need a tech to look at it. You might need a small screw driver to get the stand and battery cover off the touch screen.

  • I have a iq 804 and tried to upgrade to win 8, but the screen goes black after windows update.

i have been working with microsoft support for 5 hours everyday for the last 5 days. they could not help, now they ask to wait for hp to come out with new drivers to support win 8.any idea if they are going to add those since my computer is 3 years old

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart IQ804 Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped with Windows Vista 64-bit and was introduced for sale on or about 27-Aug-2008... making it almost 5 years old. Due to its age, HP has no intention of providing specific support or drivers for this model. Please read HP's position below.
    THIS is HP's position on Windows 8 support and any HP computer not originally supplied with Windows 8;
    1) Not all Windows 8 features may be available on all PCs.
    2) Your particular experience with Windows 8 will be determined by the capabilities of your PC.
    3) HP is providing upgrade instructions and drivers will be available for most Windows 7 systems sold after 1st October 2011.
    4) If you want to restore the original operating system after upgrading, you must create HP recovery media before you upgrade.
    5) Please note that if you purchased your system prior to October 1, 2011, HP has not tested these PCs or developed Windows 8 upgrade instructions or drivers for them. Upgrading such systems may be difficult or impossible.
    and
    Important information regarding additional limitations and requirements;
    1) Screen Resolution Requirements
    2) Limitations with DVD playback software
    3) Limitations with Blu-ray playback software
    4) Limitations with TV Tuner software
    5) Secure Boot & other UEFI dependent features
    6) Limitations with touch screen capabilities
"Windows 7 (also includes Windows Vista) PCs with touch screens will not have full Windows 8 touch capabilities after upgrade. HP PCs with touch input hardware designed for Windows 7 will provide a comparable experience for only two touch point applications after the upgrade to Windows 8. HP Windows PCs with touch input hardware will not support Windows 8 applications that require more than two simultaneous touch points. Additionally, Windows 8 edge swipes may not be available due to the recessed bezel on HP touch systems shipped with Windows 7."
    7) HP TouchSmart Magic Canvas and HP TouchSmart applications are not compatible with Windows 8 and must be uninstalled before upgrading. Note that content created using the TouchSmart applications such as Graphitti will not be available after upgrading.
With all of that said, you may be able to install Windows 8 and it may work but many of its features may no longer function under Windows 8.

  • G62 b05sd screen goes black after windows logo

    Hello,
My laptop has been turning of at random lately and now the screen turns black after the windows logo appears, though the start-up tune can be heared. I've tried connecting it to different external monitors yet it doesn't work. I've been able to start-up in safe mode and tried updating BIOS using both HP support assistant as well as manually. HP sup. ass. also doesn't indicate updating anything. The battery is essantially dead, yet i've used the laptop for a long time using the adapter only.
My next step is to do a windows system recovery, but I want to see if the issue can be resolved differently.
    Thnx

    Hi @frankkilsdonk ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP G62-b05SD Notebook and issues with freezing on the Windows logo. It is trying to load something . I would look at what is in your startup file in Windows.
You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. If you installed new software on the Notebook you might want to uninstall it as this could be the issue as well.
When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues.
    Thanks.
