HP envy Trackpad unresponsive and glitchy.

I have had this laptop for about 6 months now and the bug began almost a month after I bought my device.
I didn't think it was as important of an error initially because I tend to carry a mouse with me ususally.
Now it has rendered my device unusable when I don't carry a mouse (which is really annoying).
I really don't know what to do to fix this issue.
Please help.
Cheers.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my trackpad is erratic and glitchy

I've gotten the Macbook Pro with Retina Display for about a month now and I immediately upgraded to Mountain Lion. After about a few weeks, Mountain Lion was working well. Nothing was going on. Then about a few days later, my trackpad is possessed. My cursor is moving by itself, it switches pane to Launchpad to Mission Control, to switching my tabs. I'm not even touching it.
I've tried doing the SMC reset, the killall Dock method, and PRMC one, but the problem is still persists.
I'm going to college very soon and it's scaring me that this is just happening. Can someone help me or is this something that I just have? Is this also what Apple is going to cure?

This happened to me too. After about a week of ML, my trackpad started freaking out overnight. I went to the mac store [annoyed because I didn't even want to upgrade to ML but it's a requirement for some software...] and they told me to get a new trackpad*. Went home to reference the real geniuses [the forums..] and so far deleting the google files has worked : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4315898?start=30&tstart=0
I've also turned off all of the extra features for now - tap to click, etc and using it like an old school track pad. I'll turn them back on one at a time once this has been stable for a bit.
*I mentioned I saw this issue in forums, and the 'genius' said the software engineers don't base their knowledge on forums, but extensive testing in their lab. Maybe if the engineers actually got out of their labs and delved into the real-world problems/ read the forums, the geniuses could provide helpful fixes rather just equipment replacements

  • Random Shutdown and Glitchy Trackpad

Up until now, my Early 2008 Mac Book Pro 17" has been extremely reliable, but recently it's been freaking out. The first thing that I noticed was that the computer would randomly shut-down when it wasn't plugged into the AC adapter. This would happen at 50% or 30% battery life and the computer wouldn't even be that hot. It wouldn't start up even though I knew it still had battery life, but it did when I plugged it in. So that's the first problem.
The second problem is a little bit harder to understand. The trackpad has been acting up as well. At first I noticed a slight click right before the primary click on my trackpad. I didn't really take much notice to it since there wasn't any change in it's usage. Then there wasn't ANY click at all. I would just lightly touch it and then things would get selected. Then when I was trying to type something in gmail chat, the cursor kept going around the screen all crazy and I was positive that I wasn't touching the trackpad. I then noticed that things become selected if I push on the body of the laptop next to the trackpad. I could even scroll on it! So if there's any type of pressure applied on or around the trackpad, it goes crazy. I then tried to use my wireless mac mouse, but even that had problems. It has now become that if I move my computer just a little bit then wherever the cursor is, that gets selected and sometimes it's hard to un-select things.
This is seriously driving me nuts because I use my Mac all that time. I have AppleCare but I'm not exactly sure what I can do with that to get my computer fixed. I don't really have a buttload of money lying around to pay for repairs.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The first thing to do is to shut down your computer and remove the battery and check that it has not become swollen. Apple has from time to time gotten defective batteries that can pop open and swell, and these can exert pressure on the trackpad from below and cause problems. There used to be a battery program for these, but it has been discontinued. However, since you have Applecare, they may replace the battery for you under warranty.
If your battery is swollen, then do not put it back in your computer, but instead call Apple or go to an Apple Store immediately to report it. Double bag the battery in plastic, as it could be leaking noxious fluids.
Maybe your battery doesn't have this problem, but it could still have some problem. Go to the System profiler to check on its condition. It sounds like there is some sort of problem with the battery itself.
    Good luck!

  • Downloading 4.0 onto XP it takes a long conection process, with boxes on unresponsive script and a java scipt app saying type error and is all very annoying so what can I do I want the old firefox back a

I downloaded Firefox 4.0 replacing an earlier Firefox version. I have XP on my computer. When I now click on the Firefox icon after a time a window saying Unresponsive script and underneath script chrome etc comes up. I then press stop script and another window comes up Java Script application and type error. Eventually I get on to the internet but it's all very frustrating. I wish I had ignored the request to download 4.0
    Please help

I can assure you that the sympton is indeed identical. For as the computer got worse, eventually it refused to start up and made 3 beeps. It has done this before, but today more times than before (just like when it first had this problem). Where-ever you go on the internet, it will tell you that the 3 beeps suggest the RAM is at fault. So, the same 3 beeps, means the same problem, which is the RAM.
With that in mind, I re-ask my question with the same reasoning and justification; am I still covered under warranty? (Reasoning/Justification: Considering the original problem was not entirely fixed, though something else was to make the MacBook Pro last a little longer before the reoccurance of this problem).

  • My trackpad keeps quitting and I need to reinstall it

For no reason that I can identify my trackpad stops working and I need to set it up again. I have plenty of battery power, and it is close to the computer. It seems to happen when I am on Safari. I have OSX 10.9.2 on an iMac. It has stopped twice while I have written this message.

Just download it  from the same Appstore account - you don't have to pay again.

  • My trackpad is dead, and I'm looking for ways around this?

So my mac recenty the trackpad on my macbook started acting weird. Literally, one day I woke up and half of the trackpad wasn't working. Slowly less and less of the trackpad would work and now none of it works, sometimes the right click works but I have no control over the mouse. I've tried to turn on mouse keys so I can at least try to navigate by something other than tabbing. I've also looked into apps that would turn my iphone into a wireless keyboard, but I need to at least download the software on my mac and it's proving to be insanely hard with no use of a mouse.
If anyone had any suggestions to how I can use my macbook for the next couple weeks until I can afford to get a new track?
    Thanks?

  • Why won't my trackpad work properly and the cursor will move on it's own and open windows and menu's randomly?

I bought my Macbook Pro less than a year ago and the other night I was watching a TV show in itunes and I couldn't use the track pad. I was able to finally shut the Macbook down and the next morning I rebooted it. It was still acting weird and the trackpad was jumpy and would randomly start opening windows and menus as if someone was contriolling it remotely. I used my bluetooth mouse and it seemed to work ok until tonight when I was copying some files wirelessly (or trying to) and evey time I tried to select files the cursor would jump to another screen and open a menu and then select all and open all my file folders. I was able to get that to stop openin ght ewindows but I still can't use the track pad and the machine acts like it is possesed and has a mind of it's own. I have made sure file saring and screen sharing are off and the battery shows to be normal from doing the control+battery test. What is going on and how can I get this fixed?

Look at this Apple support article and see if this is of any help:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1449
In addition, check the MBP battery which resides under your trackpad.  They have been known to swell up and interfere with the trackpad operation.
    Ciao.

My magic trackpad fell yestarday and the switch button appeared blocked and it is not possible to make it working. I contacted Apple support and it is not competent in giving a solution. They only suggest replacement and pay a new one. They simply do not repair it. It is a very poor solution since there would be other solutions. Anyone may help me with a solution?

Hello folks!!!. I found out a solution. I simply take the start button off with a screwdriver and now the trackpad works properly. Since it initializes automatically when the computer turns on, the magic trackpad works without the need of using the start button. The only drawback is that there is a loss of aesthetic because the trackpad has now a gap, which was occupied by the button, but it is not easy to notice. It seems to be a better solution than that given by the apple customer service, which was to pay a new one.

I am using OS X and am trying to set up a HP ENVY 5660 e printer and the drivers are not listed.  I read somewhere not to use the install disk.  What do I do?

Your suggestion was a good one and what I found was that to use this and any other printer I looked at is that I need to update the operating system to a later version.  I have been reluctant in the past to do this after reading update horror stories and since this computer does what I need and very well.  Was glad I moved over from windows and this is the first problem I have had.  Thanks for your help and any other suggestions you may have.

  • Why do I always get a message saying unresponsive script and I often get a message that Firefox is unresponsive

I get a message quite frequently, like every time I'm on the computer, that says Warning-unresponsive script and I can click continue if I want. Also Firefox is unresponsive quite often. A quick visit on the computer turns into an hour long event.

  • Multitouch Trackpad, Windows XP and spurious selections

I've got a MBP unibody, 15", running Windows XP in Bootcamp. I've updated to the most recent Multitouch trackpad driver. What I'm seeing is if I swipe across the trackpad rather quickly and raise my finger during the swipe (the finger doesn't come to a stop before lifting off the trackpad) if the cursor ends up on a selectable item (a link, an icon, etc.) then that item is erroneously "clicked" (though there was no click involved). Thus, quickly tracking over a web page might end up clicking a link even though I was only sliding my finger. Or, if I've got a window selected and I swipe all the way to the edge of the screen, the cursor stops at the edge of the screen but then inserts a click right there, effectively deselecting the window. I've not seen this reported anywhere and wondering if anyone has seen this phenomenon. It's easily reproducible on my machine.
    Thanks.

I don't have a fix, but I have called Apple about this problem.
They have a bad response to it too. Out of the 10 people I've talked to, 9 of them blame Windows for my problems and refer me to Microsoft to get an adequate driver for the APPLE trackpad.
Sorry I can't help, but Apple can't help me and I'm left with an expensive and useless laptop for college since I cannot even use the trackpad in Windows for some of my college engineering programs.

  • Difference of Envy Touchsmart 20" d030 and d013w?

What is the difference of the Envy TouchSmart 20" d030 and d013w models.  Looking at the spec sheet it appears the only difference is that the d030 has 6gb memory and the d013w has 8gm memory.  Is that the only difference, are they otherwise identical?

It looks like you did pick up on the only difference in the computers.  I do understand that the model numbers designate, sometimes, where the particular units are sold.  That might be a difference.
They might not both be available in the same areas.
Have you found them to both be available in your locale?  I'd be interested.  And I didn't see anything on the prices.  Are the prices similar, if they're available where you are?

  • Looking for Hp envy sleekbook 6 top and bottom casing in pakistan

I am looking for Hp envy Sleekbook 6 top and bottom casing.. Plz tell me where can i find it in pakistan.

I bought a new ENVY and spent more time troubleshooting 'NO INTERNET CONNECTION' 90% of the time. After spending HOURS on the phone with HP SUPPORT and resetting router and adapter over and over, the issue came back! Everyone elses laptops in the house connected just fine. I finally got so ticked I did a recovery...BIG MISTAKE since it deleted many apps however, I'm not getting the NO internet connection anymore. Now I have to do a backup of files and a reset. The HP tech wanted to sell me another warranty that "included cracked screen" coverage. He said the 2 yr warranty didn't cover it and the longer I waited the more it would cost. After reading your post I am confused...does the 2 yr warranty cover it or not? Sorry to hear about your issues as it must be extremely frustrating...I'd be upset!

  • Trackpad will click and select but will not move cursor

After breaking the trackpad in my early 2008 MBP I replaced it.
Upon startup the trackpad will click and select but will not move cursor... I have tried all system resets short of wiping and reinstalling OS.
    Any suggestions?

Because the click has to deal with a physical button press while the movement has to deal with the trackpad detecting the movement of your finger on it.
Just for giggles, if you hold down the Option key on bootup and get to the boot menu on it, does the mouse work then?  If so, then it's an OS issue (could be a setting or some .plist that's jacked up.
