HP Envy x2 CTO 11t-g000 Win 8.1 Upgrade Failure

Ok, I upgraded all my  drivers. I then tried to upgrade to Win8.1 (32bit) on my HP Envy x2 CTO 11t-g000 and upon restart of the PC it hangs. I get the HP logo, then the screen goes blank. I tried F2 and it shows the Blue Screen Of Death (BSD). Saying I need to contact HP to resolve the issue. It seems that many users of HP Envy's are having issues upgrading to WIN 8.1. I have been able to recover to a service point prior to the upgrade, but it seems that I have lost functionality associated with IE and other applications. I get a proxy error.
I'm ready to back up my data and work to re-install WIN8.0, but would really like to move forward with the WIN8.1 upgrade.
Any suggestions???
Thx Mark

I understand that after updating your drivers and then updating to Windows 8.1 the notebook hangs on startup.
You get the HP logo and then the screen goes blank. You tried the F2 but then got a Blue Screen that advised you to contact HP.
Here is a link that may help with this difficulty.Black or blank screen with blinking cursor after entering Windows password
Here is another  link to  HP ENVY Sleekbook and Ultrabook Notebook PCs - Stop Error Occurs When Updating From Microsoft Window...that may help.
Next  I would try to do a Refresh your PC to resolve problems (Windows 8)
You will see that option in the Recovery Manager.  To access the recovery manager power on the notebook and immediately start pressing F11 about once every second. You may see a "please wait"  on the screen. Be patient and wait for it to load the recovery manager as it may take a few moments.  Choose your language and you should then get the choose your option screen.
If the refresh does not help then please continue and do a full recovery back to factory.
Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8)
During the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files to prevent data loss.

  • Win 8.1 Upgrade Disabled Twist Touch Screen Fixed

After a Win 8.1 Upgrade, I had no touch screen function. Calls to Lenovo led nowhere Same with searching Microsoft boards. I fixed the issue on Sunday 6/1- No help from Lenovo or Microsoft.
For me it was finding two "Unknown Devices" in the HID section of Device Manager which did not have drivers installed. After researching and determining that Win 8.1 will not allow unsigned device drivers, and also seeing the "Update Driver" option failing because the drivers on the laptop that fit the problem were getting an 'INF unsigned driver error', I went through the steps to allow unsigned drivers... Charm Bar>Settings>Change PC Settings>Update and Recovery>Recovery>Advanced Startup>-Restart> Troubleshoot>Advanced Options>Startup Settings> Restart and then Chose #7>Allow Unsigned Device Drivers and Restart again... then Updating the two Unknown Devices with the drivers already on the Twist.... and voila- the errors disappeared and the touchscreen returned to full function.
I don't know if this happened to many people, but Lenovo had no idea what to do. They wanted me to ship them the laptop and allow them to roll it back to Windows 8. Posting here to distribute it to a larger audience. Maybe someone at Microsoft should call Lenovo too or Lenovo should call Microsoft. The Twist is a great laptop with Win 8.1 when everything works the way it should.

    Hi Cvj17,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per your query we understood that you are looking driver for Unknown device. In some system after installing all the drivers also the unknown device will show in Lenovo Solution Center, hence confirm it once in device manage is there any Unknown adapter is showing in that.
Please install Lenovo System Update application and run it to verify the driver automatically.
    Unknown Device issue.

  • Cannot get to dual-boot screen after Win 8.1 upgrade

    Hello,
I have an iMac with Mavericks. Recently installed Win 8 to dual-boot. Instrux then were to hold OPT button during startup to be presented with options for OS with which to boot.
Since Win 8.1 upgrade there is no way to get to that prompt. MS/Win help topics not useful (unsurprisingly). I have the original install disk but would far prefer to save my current config of Mav. Thoughts for workaround?
    Cheers,
    Michael C

holding down option key at bootup not giving you the bootmenu have nothing to do with win8.1
even if one never installed anything in terms bootcamp at all then holding down the option key should give the option between osx and the restore to last clean osx version
if you don't get the option then I'd say the cause is not windows as the menu is handled by the bootloader which is before windows takes over

  • T400 - lost Win 7 64 upgrade disks

    Hi everyone
Unfortunately I have lost my Lenovo Win 7 64 upgrade disks (the infamous one delivered by Mentor Media from Singapore). Does anyone have experience of reordering them?
I've sent an email to them (in answer to their original It's shipping mail) but don't hold high hopes.
Any tip would be gratefully received.
    Miguel
    Madrid, Spain

I do not think there is anyway you can get a replacement discs because these are upgrade discs that were send during 2007 window 7 launched. Each set has the window 7 serial number and these are non-replaceable. Neither Mentor or lenovo is liable for item lost.
However, if you are talking about recovery discs, then maybe lenovo itself may entertain a replacement set. Do note that mentor is just a CDROM maker who at that time was contracted to do the window 7 upgrading process.
In your situation and if the win7 is installed on a working lenovo, I would suggest you google and download a software like ABR which can scan and extract the serial number and sometimes the activated profile. You can then download the digital official window 7 x64 bit (google it) and burn discs, then write the serial number on it. Note that since the win 7 has been activated, you cannot resell or reinstall the serial on another machine.

  • Envy TouchSmart m6-k025dx Sleekbook Win 8 recovery with totally messed up hard drive?

I made a recovery flash drive when I first got my Envy. Now, after totally messing up the hard drive and being unable to recover Windows 8 (not 8.1) with the flash drive, I've reformatted the drive and loaded the Windows 10 Tech Preview (which seems to be working quite well). However, Tech Previews don't last forever, and I'd really like to get back Win 8. I still have the recovery flash drive, but there's obviously a problem with the recovery image.
Does anyone know if a generic recovery image is available anywhere?
    TIA

    Hi there @RockDoctor,
and welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Since you say that your recovery media is not good, you can always try to get it direct from HP.
Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive
Also you can look at this if you have not removed the HP_tools partition:

  • Envy 23 all in one Win 8.1 bluetooth doesn't receive photo from phone

Trying to upload a jpg file from my phone to my windows 8.1 Envy 23 All in One via bluetooth.  The PC and phone pair up ok and phone shows it is sending.  When the phone starts sending, the PC's bluetooth device status changes from not connected to connected.  After about a minute, the phone says the transfer failed and the PC status goes back to not connected.   The phones error message says request could not be handled correctly.  Also, the bluetooth icon window doesn't ever include selections to receive file or send file.  HP Support connected remotely, reinstalled the bluetooth driver, deleted the device, paired up again, but no change with the transfer.  HP concluded it is a hardware problem and says to send the PC in for repair. (Still under warranty.)  Doesn't sound like hardware to me, and I don't want to be without my PC and possibly have to reinstall all programs and data when it returned. Thinking of getting a cable to connect directly to the PC.  Any ideas what might be wrong?

    Hi,
Open up Bluetooth settings ---> Share and make sure that box to Allow remote devices to browse, send and receive pictures, music and other files is checked. The click on Open Bluetooth Exchange Folder -->right mouse click for properties, Share and the review your exchange settings.
Check the Permissions on the above image so that your know for sure what you are allowing for transfer types etc..
It is possible that the WIFI adapter is failing during a transfer process if the software is properly setup.
Be patient and Bluetooth transfers can be slow.
You should get a notification on the PC that the file was successfully received.  Additionally, your phone should be indicating an up transfer.

  • Can't restore my HP Envy Ultrabook CTO 6t-1000

Here's the situation.   I have used this laptop for a consulting gig at a company which reimaged it with Win 8 Enterprise using their corporate license.   I just got a new laptop for myself and want to give the old one to my son.   Thus I need to restore it using a windows license I own (besides I was told that the current license would stop working if the consulting gig ended -- don't know whether this is true of not, but regardless, would prefer to "be legal".)
Of course I have the recovery disks that I made when the system was new (and loaded with Win 7 Home).   After backing up my data twice (i'm paranoid), I went to recover.   I successfully booted recovery disk #1 from DVD.   After a few minutes the screen says....."Contact HP Customer Support.  You are not able to resture your system with the media".    This screen is labeled at the top "HP Recovery Manager".     I repeated the process with the same frustrating result.
I don't understand this.    I should be able to recover to original state.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

For a Downgrade you must delete the Windows 8 Partitions
And set the BIOS F10 Secure Boot disabled and activate Legacy Boot
Or you can install the System with a windows 7 ISO

  • Envy 17-J130ea ssd, blu-ray and extra upgrade options

    Hi
Wondered if someone could help me with some upgrade help.
I have a sandisk 120GB SSD and wanted to upgrade the laptop bootable hdd to this containing win 8.1. I know it is possible to do this having just the ssd in the laptop (I know this is a relatively small ssd) but I wanted to know if you could keep the existing 1TB hdd in as a secondary drive? I have read a few posts around the internet and it seems quite difficult to achieve. Would appreciate any assistance on how to make this happen as I will be sending my laptop to a pc shop to perform the upgrade so would like them to know how they need to perform the upgrade (if it is not something simple that a joe public could do themself i.e. myself).
Secondly could someone recommend a blu-ray drive upgrade for this model both official parts and other drives that could fit into the slot.
Lastly any other worthwhile upgrades performing on this laptop? It has 12gb ram so I know that is not needed but if there is anything else worthy of looking into that would be great.
    Thanks
    Abs
P.S. How do you get rid of all the win8.1 apps thing and have it looking like a win7 desktop with start menu working like in previous versions?
EDIT on further research it seems you can put an mSATA hdd in this model and use it as an accelaration drive. I wanted to use an ssd to help speed up the performance of the laptop but of course realise that would then take up a hdd slot (hence my original set of questions).
Am I correct in saying that an SSD drive would give best overall performance but an mSATA drive is not too far off in terms of boot up, program performance etc? I realise that file transfer would be the same speed as the other hdd's in the hdd slots correct?
I'm kinda thinking that it may actually be better to get an mSATA drive as an acceleration drive and load the other two hhd bays with 1TB drives so I have the best of both worlds, a fast performing laptop and huge storage space if you don't mind file transfer not being up to ssd speeds. Have I missed any other pros and cons between the two?

Your laptop actually has 2 hard drive bays so all you have to do is move the original 1 TB drive to the second bay and put the SSD in the primary bay. You will need a second hard drive caddy/cable you can buy from newmodeus.com.
    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=542
    Youtube instruction video
The problem, you are going to have is getting Windows 8.1 on 120 gigs. That is too small to use the HP recovery disks.
You could clone the original drive over. The original factory install is likely much less than 120 gigs. You could back up all your data, then do a recovery on the 1 TB drive and select minimal recovery-OS only-then clone the 1 TB drive as recovered over to the SSD. This is going to be a bit of a challenge but is doable.
Here is a Blu-Ray reader (not burner) drive on eBay:

    Here is the Service Manual:

Optical drive replacement is very easy. See page 46. You would need to swap the faceplate over.
To make Windows 8.1 have a start menu I recommend a program called Classic Shell.
    http://www.classicshell.net/downloads/
It is free and I have used it on many Windows 8/8.1 computers. It causes the system to default to the Windows 7 like desktop and have a start button you can configure as you like it.

I can't answer the question from personal knowledge, but I have had several HP computers, none as nice as that one.  I am a musician who is very picky with how music sounds on my computer.  I have never used anything but the integrated sound.  I am using 12 year old Polk Audio speakers with my h8 1228 and they sound very good.  My next speakers will be Bose USB computer speakers.  They provide their own power.  They are rather expensive, but worth it.

  • After Win 8.1 upgrade, Acrobat 9 Pro suddenly won't run

I have Web Premium CS4, and Acrobat Pro v. 9.5.5.  I bought a new  Window 8.0 computer 90 days ago, installed the suite, activated, and everything ran fine. Yesterday, I upgraded to Win 8.1. Now, when I open Acrobat Pro, I get a pop-up message saying that it was installed as part of a suite, and to open another program in the suite first. When I click OK, Acrobat closes. I have tried opening nearly every other program in the suite (Bridge, Flash, Photoshop 64-bit), they run OK, but Acrobat will still not run, and there are no activation messages.  I checked my Adobe account, and my version of Acrobat Pro 9 is still listed, with serial number.
I'm very disappointed, as I use Acrobat Pro quite a bit, and currently it will not stay open at all. Other than telephoning Adobe for help (no free support # listed), or using on-line chat (no link available), or e-mailing them (no address listed)...what can I do to "activate" it?
I've tried opening Acrobat Distiller and get the same message, but when I close it, I see a brief flash of what appears to be an input box with activation stuff.  It only appears for half-a-second, so I cannot do anything with it.

Bill, thanks for that info. I don't think I would ever expect to get any support from Adobe on these programs, since I stopped buying revisions after CS4. I was surprised that I was even able to successfully install the CS4 Web suite onto Win 8.0, and Win 8.1 probably adds another couple hundred million lines of redundant code from our friends in Bill Gates-Land.
However, my A-Pro9 problem did resolve unexpectedly!  I tried opening all the suite's programs, one at a time, and then Acrobat, with no luck. Then I realized that the suite had installed both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Photoshop (I use the 64-bit version) onto my new 64-bit computer.  So, when I opened the *32-bit Photoshop* for a minute, closed it, and re-opened Acrobat 9, it went back to working normally.  I'll take it!

  • Satellite P845t-10G does not go to sleep closing lid after Win 8.1 upgrade

    Hi,
I own a P845t-10g and since I upgraded to Win 8.1 the laptop does not go to sleep (or shut down) when closing the lid.
However, when opening the lid, it wakes from sleep mode.
I tried installing latest Toshiba systems settings utility and all updates on the support site.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks!

Did you check the option called: What closing the lid does?
Click on the 'Power Options' icon in taskbar (or in control panel).
Then click 'More power options'. Now a new windows will open. On the left side panel click on 'What closing the lid does'.
Now you will see two possible mode: battery and plugged in. For each mode you can set the action for closing the lid.
BUT one question: did you upgrade the Win 8.1 following the instruction from Toshiba?
http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-message/ Did you install all the Toshiba Windows 8.1 drivers and utilities in the right order!?

  • Windpad 110W Win 8.1 upgrade can no longer boot under AHCI

I recently upgraded my 110W to Win 8.1, but then discovered that it would not boot after the first reboot.  As found in some forums, changing to IDE mode in BIOS allows it to boot, but performance is somewhat slower.  I have tried chaning the storahci registries and restarting under AHCI (as suggested in numerous forums) but it didn't work.  I think it is possibly related to some driver issue as there were issues when I tried to update to drivers newer than those on the MSI site (I now have the MSI drivers loaded).  Any suggestion as to how that can be solved?
Also, shutdown and restart seems strange.  The screen would go dark pretty quickly (as usual), but the power light on the side would stay on for about 2 minutes before it would reboot / shutdown.  As suggested by some, I have turned off quick boot, but it is still the case.
    Thanks.

It's possible that the driver isn't compatible for windows 8.1, so either you can try to find the driver for windows 8.1 or I would suggest to roll back to windows 8.
