HP Ext dvd drive (EXT MB CRADLE P07456 CNU402170K, 4K0412 Rev V1.01)

I have an HP Ext dvd drive (EXT MB CRADLE P07456 CNU402170K, 4K0412 Rev V1.01) but I can't plug into HP elitebook 840, please assist on how can I use this drive thanksregards

I think the device you are looking at is the Multibay external caddy to use with a mutibay dvd drive. I don't think for a price of ten dollars or pounds or euros you are getting the Multibay device and the drive. No, the netbook does not have the usb+ port with a round plug next to the rectangular usb plug. However, that extra plug in is only needed on certain older units like the tc1100 and tc4200 pen tablets in order to boot from the external drive. The usb+ cable can be replaced with a standard usb A to B cable as with a printer or a mini-usb cable with an ordinary usb connector on the other end. Your netbook is set to boot from a regular usb external drive so you should be able to make full use of the drive without the usb+ connection. If you are actually getting the external box and the external drive for a "tenner" as you say then that is a very good deal. The mutibay externals I have worked with actually came with two alternate cables; a usb+ and an ordinary usb so just ask the seller very specifically if you are getting the unit in the original sealed HP box. If you are not getting the drive you can probably find just the drive for maybe another tenner or 20 dollars us if you can live with a dvd/cd burner combo and a dvd burner is going to be more like another 50 dollars so the mini-external usb dvd burner drive will start to look good by comparison.

  • What is the easiest way to burn data from a ext HD to an ext DVD drive?

I have a Maxtor Touch III with 2 partitions on it. I want to wipe the 2nd partition clean but it has data on it. I just bought a Plextor External DVD-DL drive. So what would be the easiest way to burn the discs? There is about 40Gb worth of data to burn and I have all kinds of backup utilities, (Retrospect Express, Intego's backup, etc....I will admit I am not well versed at using Retrospect, in fact the only way I know how to backup is by doing a Duplicate Backup. So what do you think?

I personally use Roxio's Toast 7 for all my burning needs, and it's the finest so far (also used DiscBlaze in the past). Click the "DATA" tab, and add whatever files you want to burn, that's it.
You mentioned you just bought a Plextor external DVD drive, is it the Plextor 716UF (USB/Firewire)? That's the same one i have and it's fantastic.

  • Bad CD with Ext USB DVD Drive

    Greetings,
Who do I need to contact to get a replacement software CD for the External USB DVD Drive that I just bought. The drive seems to be working but when I put the CD in it sounds like its grinding gravel and it then displays a message that it is not responding. Never can access the software on the CD or even view it in file manager. I've looked around on the HP support site and all it does it run you around in circles and never anyone to email about the problem

I have run diagnostics on the hard drive - there are no failures.
Again to go over my problem -
Restore to out of the box condition from the hard drive fails
All seems to go well until starting windows for the first time has a page fault,
the page fault screen goes away before I can read it, the computer reboots in Startup Repair
Startup Repair informs me Windows cannot repair this computer automatically.
No error codes found in the Diagnosis and repair details the  root cause found is Failure while setup is in progress.
So I use the restoration DVDs and get error 1012.
Reading up on official HP advice related to error I get advice to firmware upgrade the internal CD/DVD drive, which failed some time ago.
There is also information about Build ID numbers. The build ID number  is 71NAv3XrA3 on the label and the same one reported by BIOS setup.
If replacing the internal CD/DVD rom would make the restore processes work better that would be a useful piece of information.
As it stands I have a computer that passes all dignostics, except has a bad internal DVD, that will not accept any of the Restore methods I thought I could count on working.
    Regards Tom M.

  • DVD drive isn't working. Can't install Snow Leopard.

My DVD drive isn't working properly. Is there another way for me to install Snow Leopard? I didn't see a digital download of this software in the Apple Store.

Another computer or an ext CD/DVD player are your only options.

  • Cd/dvd drive not found, can I format hard drive with an external cd/dvd drive. If so how?

My cd/dvd drive quit working and is not found in device manager so I purchased an external cd/dvd rw.  Now I am having other issues with installing software and windows updates so I would like to format hard drive.  Can this be done with external cd drive, if so how do I boot from it?  presario v6000 laptop windows vista 32bit os.

Restart the notebook >> start tapping F10 key >> go to configuration menu >> Boot Order >> select the Ext DVD drive as 1st boot device >> save and exit >> Insert the recovery disc >> restart the PC >> press any key when prompted >> follow the instructions..

  • Recommend a good external DVD drive for Mac?

can anyone recommend a good external rewritable DVD drive for my EMac? i want something that will work with iDVD of course... thanks in advance.

LaCie is one. The Macally 500BC Firewire/USB 2.0 enclosure with a separate Pioneer S-Drive is another viable option.
I personally use multiple ADS Tech 1394 Pyro FW Enclosures with a Pioneer 110D S-Drive as well as a few ext. FW HD's and they all work well on mult. G4 systems (completely interchangeable via FW 400).

  • System won't boot to my internal DVD drive

After receiving an imminent HDD failure warning, I replaced my internal hard drive and have been trying to use the Recovery Media (DVDs) I created to reboot my system. I get the error message "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" even though I have chosen Internal CD/DVD ROM as the first boot drive choice. When I go into the Startup Menu at bootup there seems to be a conflict between F9 Boot Device Options and F10 System Configuration-Boot Order. F9 does not give me a CD/DVD ROM choice; only the internal HDD or a USB ext HD or key drive. Under F10 I can change the boot order to show the CD/DVD ROM as the first boot drive choice, but that never shows up under F9.  I am pretty confident my Recovery Media are good. But the system doesn't seem to want recognize any DVD.
It will, however, recognize USB devices. Is there a way I can configure the USB ext HD as a boot device?
By the way, when I reinstall the old HDD, the system works just fine (except for the warnings). And the DVD drive works fine, too.

It is possible the Recovery Disks are bad. Do you have another machine you could test them on to see if they are bootable? F9 should give you the cd/dvd option no matter what boot order is set in BIOS-If there is bootable media detected.

  • Sharing external DVD drive

I have an ext. USB DVD drive (set to Region 1) connected to
one of my iMacs (all their int. DVD drives are set to Region 2).
What do I have to do to be able to watch DVDs
from the ext. drive on the other iMacs?
I've already turned "DVD or CD sharing" on, but it seems to be not enough.
    Thanks for your help!

    Thanks for your answer!
Does Remote Disc appear in the Finder window's Sidebar?
Yes, if you mean the external USB-Drive and the sidebar of the Mac to which it is connected to.
Have you configured CDs, DVDs and iPods to appear in the Sidebar in the Finder Preferences?
    Yes of course.
If Remote Disc appears in the Finder window's Sidebar then highlighting it should give you a list of any Macs on your network that have disc drives and on which you have enabled CD, DVD sharing.
Where should this list appear? It only show the contents of the Disc when I click on it..
I only see the other Macs under "SHARED" in the sidebar. Clicking on them brings their Public Folders.
If you have inserted a disc to share in the drive, the disc should appear if you highlight that computer in the list. If the disc appears, then you should be able to play it as if it was on your computer.
I assume you mean the other Macs now. Here again I just see the other Mac's Public Folders.
Normally copy protected games and videos are not sharable through Remote Disc sharing.
I tried a self made CD and I also tried connecting a USB-RAM-card. It didn't work.
    What am I doing wrong...?

  • Stuck: Need Disk repair but DVD drive dead and only have USB 1

[1 Ghz flat-panel iMac with USB 1 ports (no USB 2) and also Firewire 400]
I noticed a strange discrepancy (small but concerning) between the size of a folder on hard drive (folder of all mp3's with no subfolders) and the backup of the same folder on a mounted thumb drive.
(The size difference was not due to any invisible .DS_Store files and both folders are displayed in List view format.)
    Disk Utility reports three things:
    1. Incorrect number of thread records
    2. Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
    3. Checking volume information.
Volume free block count",0)   [I might have mangled this line]
(It should be 13438611 instead of 13437937)
Here is the GOOD (but these are useless as explained under the "Bad"):
    - I have a Tiger 10.4 boot DVD for a repair ==>but see below
    - I also have a Disk Warrior disk (never used)
    Here is the BAD:
    - My built-in optical drive [Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105] is -- I now discover - defunct and DEAD - it does not run the Tiger Boot DVD (in pristine shape).
    - I bought an external SuperDrive (unopened) but I believe no boot from USB 1 is possible in PowerPC so a SuperDrive with USB 1 is useless.
    Questions:
1.) Is there any way to boot from some external source (optical drive is DEAD) to run Disk Utility and/or Disk Warrior? -- I see none in this case! (gulp).
2.) More importantly (and this is my fundamental concern): Do the three Disk Utility hard drive issues constitute any direct threat to the integrity of my files?
I have almost everything backed up to duplicate thumb drives over these many months as standard practice.
Are these Disk Utility errors fully isolated to hard drive directory-keeping...or do these directory damage errors pose the possibility of mangling or harming my files or their metadata (filesize, etc.).
Put another way, when files are backed-up from a hard drive under the Disk Utility reports above, do they remain unharmed and undamaged by the situations reported by Disk Utility?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Jeff and Michael,
Thank you both for your generous and thoughtful input.
Michael: As I slept on it overnight, the exact same idea occurred to me of trying a Target Mode to the iMac from my Lion MacbookPro (I have it but stupidly have yet to use it much!).
I did buy a Firewire 800 (MBP) to Firewire 400 (iMac) adapter cable a few months ago!
CONCERN: Would there be potential compatibility issues or risks in running Lion 10.7's Disk Utility against the hard drive of the old OSX 10.4 iMac in Target Disk Mode?
==> Assuming an "it's ok" answer to the Target Disk question, would the majority of users agree that the Target Disk Mode would be more prudent than running:
fsck -fy   in Single User Mode
I have never done fsck -fy before especially because I was under the impression there were issues with Journaled drived but from what I have read today...it looks ok to do)
Jeff: Can't thank you enough for the reference to the OTW DVD drive. I might first invest $10 in one of those DVD lens cleaner disks that I've read about. It's probably not the issue or else why would the drive read commercial Music cds perfectly well!
    Thanks,
    Bilil

  • Windows Vista Home + iTunes = no DVD drives

I am a long time iTunes user, and have been having an issue with iTunes for the last little while. When I install iTunes (I'm on Windows Vista 32 bit, by the way), after the required restart, my DVD drives' icons disappear (I have 2 of them). I can see the DVD drives in the Device Manager, and they say they cannot start. The only I think I've had these problems since about iTunes 7.0, but I don't burn CDs that often, so I've really not felt too bad about it, except that my wife would like to do so. I've done the registry change where you remove the upper and lower filters, which corrects the drive issue, but then presents the seemingly inevitable Registry issue dialog box, without the option to burn CDs. Here are the steps I've done thus far to try to get my computer and iTunes to play nicely:
    1. Tried reenabling the UpperFilter for GearAspiWDM as described here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305422
    2. Tried downloading new GEAR drivers from their website.
    3. Tried uninstalling Quicktime, and then installing it separately.
    4. Uninstalled my other music service software (SonicStage), and then reinstalling iTunes.
    5. Completely uninstalled iTunes, and then reinstalled it (a couple of iTunes versions ago).
    6. Tried uninstalling the non-functioning DVD drives in the device manager, and then scanning for hardware changes. When the UpperFilter was still present, this part failed. It passed after I removed the UpperFilter registry entry.
    Please help!

  • My DVD drive is no longer recognized.

For the past few months my dvd drive would not open when I used the eject disk function. A few times I went into the startup menu and ejected the disk manually. Now the dvd drive is not even recognized by the computer. This dvd drive is the original and my G5 is at least 5-6 years old. Should I replace the dvd drive or is this a software issue?

Hi birdman1999, and a warm welcome to the forums!
It is very likely it is gone, I've not had an Optical in the last 8 years that lasted that long myself.
Does it not show up even in Disk Utility or System Profiler?
Does it boot off the Install Disc if inserted and holding the c key at bootup?
    Here's some options for replacement...

  • DVD drive no longer shows up

I got a HP Pavilion g6-2392nr a few days ago and today I decided to create some recovery disks. This is Windows 8.1 I should mention. I created disks 1-5 but when I put a dvd in the drive for disk 6, it kept waiting for me to insert the disk. I tried another disk and it also could not find it. So I cancelled the creation of the recovery media and restarted. When I logged back into Windows I attempted to read another disk, just to make sure it was working, but the drive never appeared in the file manager, though I do hear it spinning up. After this I attached my usb dvd drive and tried to finish the final disk. This seemed to finish but then it told me to insert another disk. Anyway, when I look at the device manager the only driver I see is the usb DVD drive, but no drivers now seem to correspond to the integrated one in the laptop.
Does anyone know why this might suddenly happen after hours of working fine? I am getting very frustrated because this is just another in a long line of problems I have been having since getting this computer.

Okay, eventually I found a suggestion in one of the troubleshooting guides that indicated that I should remove the battery and power, shut down for 10 seconds and restart. This worked. What I want to know now is, why would this work, and should I still be concerned that there is a problem with the drive?
