HP external USB DVD Drive not recognized by computer.

Have HP Mini-210 and HP external USB DVD Drive.  When attached, the DVD drive lights and spins but computor will not recognize it.  When checking Device Manager, it says no driver for DVD drive..  I try to reinstall the driver, and then it says I have the best one already.  Device Manager continues to indicate that this drive has a problem.  Tried to download a driver from HP support and it was not available on line.
Copied install disk that came with drive thru dropbox cloud to move it onto the computor.  Was able to install the programs but still have no driver and unable to use DVD drive.

  • 2.5" external USB hard drive not recognized by my iMac

I have a small 2.5" external USB hard drive that my intel iMac will not mount or see. My 12" G4 Powerbook sees it fine and it is formatted in Mac OS Extended. My iMac is bootcamped and XP on my iMac sees the drive but not OS X Tiger on the iMac, (wierd) I have Tiger on both my Macs too.
Why does the intel based OS X refuse to see this external 2.5 HD. It sees a 3.5" USB one I have but not the small one. I know it is software.

    Hey coby,
Well thanks for the star. Not sure I deserve it.
i then tried connecting the drive to each USB port again, and voila! i have found one it works in. I guess my computer's ports must be a little worn.
Hmm well try looking inside and see if there's some smutz in there, if the contacts are dirty or bent or worn.
i was starting to think i would have to go out and get a USB hub to give it some more power.
Is it powered off the USB? If so that actually might be a good idea since that puts a lot of strain on the connectors. Even if it's self powered it might be a good idea since it would take the strain off an obviously flakey USB.

  • USB flash drive not recognized by computer. Have tried all options of which I can think.

Okay.  I have a Patriot S-Mini 32GB flash drive that my Windows 8.1 HP Slimline 400-434 is not recognizing. I believe it recognized it once, and has refused to do so since. My laptop (Windows 7 Toshiba) recognizes it just fine.
All other USB devices function perfectly on this computer. USB mouse/keyboard/USB Hub/Apple iPhone cable.
    1. I have tried unplugging all other USB devices before trying this one. FAIL
    2. I have gone to Device Management and the USB drive does not appear in the list. FAIL
    3. I have uninstalled the USB Root Hubs and restarted the computer. FAIL
    4. I have tried plugging the USB drive into the rear ports that plug directly into the motherboard. FAIL
    5. I have updated the drivers, and have been unable to find a BIOS update as the link on the HP website downloads and says that it is incompatible for my computer. FAIL
...so what the bloody gorram heck do I do now?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Okay, and in the most ridiculous way I have ever solved a technical problem...
The USB flash cannot be inserted ALL the way into the port. It has to be inserted slowly, so that the contacts line up.
I figured this out by trying to connect it into my USB hub and noticing that the red indicator light was going on and off as I inserted the USB drive, flickering on as I inserted it and then off once it was all the way in.
Weird. But hey. It works now.

  • DVD Drive not recognized by Computer

    Hi,
I rebooted my computer the other day and realized my DVD drive is not listed in the devices shown under "my computer".  Under the device manager it has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it.  The driver is current and loaded.  I tried shutting down and restarting to no avail.  Then... I uninstalled the device and now I can't find it anywhere.  Can anyone help me with this please?
    Thanks,

  • External USB Hard Drive not recognized on iMac HELP!!

I am currently using a i5 iMac running Lion 10.7.5
I have recently partitioned a Verbatim USB external hard drive and uploaded all my footage from a wedding. This was done with no problems and the QT videos could be opened from the hard drive.
    A few weeks later, the hard drive does not show up in my finder. BUT it is recognized in disk utility. Here is a screen shot;
    So first I ran "Verify" and it told me to repair disk. After clicking on Repair, I got this;
It is giving me the error message "Invalid B-Tree node"
    Here is more info on the hard drive;
    Name : Hitachi HTS545032B9A300 Media
              Type :           Disk
Partition Map Scheme :           Master Boot Record
              Disk Identifier :           disk1
Media Name :           Hitachi HTS545032B9A300 Media
              Media Type :           Generic
              Connection Bus :           USB
              USB Serial Number :           091004B3066D
              Device Tree :           IODeviceTree:/PCI0@0/EHC2@1A,7
              Writable :           Yes
              Ejectable :           Yes
              Location :           External
              Total Capacity :           320.07 GB (320,072,933,376 Bytes)
              Disk Number :           1
              Partition Number :           0
              S.M.A.R.T. Status :           Not Supported
Can someone give me a step by step on how to get the hard drive working again? It would mean the world to me as this footage is priceless and irreplaceable.
OR can you refer me to someone (Geek Squad? Apple Store?) that might be able to help me out?
    Thanks in advance!

The error message invalid b-tree node size indicates that the directory on the disk is corrupt. The way that it can be repaired is to reformat as disk utiltiy says.
It is recommended that the data be backed up first before either of this solution are done.
Since it is not be recognized by the sytem at all it does sound like you can back it up now.
    Do you have a backup?
If you don't there is every chance you may lose all your data.
You can check to see if a data recovery service can recover any data for you. If you go that route you are looking at spending $$$$

  • DVD Drive not recognized by computer? Help!

    Hi everybody,
please take time to read this. I have my laptop for 2 years right now, and it always worked fine. I use this disk of Roller Coaster Tycoon, because I'm still enjoying the game. The game requires the disk to stay inserted every time I want to play it.
All worked fine. Then, one year ago, the drive showed up but the Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum icon (which would replace the drive, since it's inserted)
DID NOT show up. I tried some things, and I got it fixed with deleting the 'Upperfilters' and 'Lowerfilters' in some place in the system. Rebooted and worked again like a charm.
But THEN, one week ago, the same thing happened. The panda icon was gone and I only saw the DVD station. I tried the SAME thing, but this time it did not work.  Upperfilter was there, but after deleting, nothing was fixed. I really
need help, I tried several things but I think only you guys can help me out.
So I suggest that the problem is that the computer cannot recognize any disk I would insert. The disk works on other computers though. So it's definitely not the disk's problem.
Please, I really really need you guys' help.
    Sincerely, Boris.

  • My laptop won't boot form external USB DVD drive

Hi, I have HP pavillion dv6748us. My internal dvd drive is not recognized, cannot access and not listed in device manager & window explorer. I need to reboot from the external dvd but don't see the option listed in BIOS. Below is the sequence listed in my BIOS. I have recovery disk and would like to know if and how to add external USB DVD DRIVE  into to BIOS.
    Your help is greatly appreicated!
    (1) ATAPI CD/DVD ROM DRIVE
    (2) USB HARD DRIVE
    (3) NOTEBOOK HARD DRIVE
    (4) USB DISKETTE ON KEY
    (5) USB FLOPPY
    (6) NETWORK ADAPTOR

Have you tried 2? The BIOS may see the DVD drive as a mass storage device and not distinguish between a hard drive and an optical drive.

  • Problems Installing Win7 using External, USB DVD Drive

I have a mid 2010 15" i7 MBP which I upgraded to from 4GB to 8GB RAM courtesy of OWC.  I recently upgraded the 500GB 7200RPM HD with a 240GB OCZ Vertex 3 and using an OWC Data Doubler, I replaced the DVD SuperDrive with the 500GB Hard Drive.
I used an External USB DVD Drive to install OS X SL On the SSD without issues. Also, I got all my updates and software installed and working without any problems.
I've been running great for about 2 weeks now, so I decided to install Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. I ran Boot Camp Assistant and partitioned the 240GB SSD in half 120/120. Everything went fine with creating the partition. I selected to Install from the Win 7 DVD media in the USB DVD drive and rebooted.  I got a grey screen.  I turned the computer off and turned it back on.  Holding down Option, I selected the Install DVD from the Boot Menu.  I then got a screen with the Apple Logo flashing intermittently with a Circle/Cross Hatch.  So I can't get the Windows Install to start to save my life.  I know the External, USB DVD works since I used it to install OS X and I have no problems using it in OS X.  I Know the media works because I tried a test install, without activation in a VMWare Fusion VM.
    Any suggestions are appreciated?

So here is the answer.  The Firmware on the MacBook Pro only supports installation of OS X from External Media and will not install operating systems from 3rd Parties.  I tried to install Windows XP, Win7 Ultimate  32 & 64bit, and Ubuntu 11.04 but no success.
Supposedly, the MacBook Air does support installation of 3rd party operating systems from external media, but I have no way to confirm this.
I ended up reinstalling the internal DVD drive installing Win 7 and Ubuntu on the SSD.  Using rEFI, I'm able to triple boot all 3 operating systems.  Then removed the drive again and reinstalled the 2nd HD. Everything seems to be working fine.
I'm looking for someone who has experience in Mac EFI Hacking to see if there is a way to enable booting 3rd Party OSes from external media.  I'm guessing someone could examine the MBA firmware and figure out how to hack that capability into the MBP.

  • Cannot boot to Windows disc from external USB DVD drive.

I have a MacBook Pro 17" Early 2011 8,3. I have tried to use bootcamp to install Windows 7 from a external USB DVD drive. All I get, like many people, is a black screen with a blinking cursor, as if it never makes it to boot. I tried restarting to the OS selection for holding alt, and tried the DVD again, did not work.
I saw a few posts claiming that this didn't work on some models of Mac because of a EFI problem that would not allow booting from a external USB, which is really stupid because it would seems some models can... And MacBook airs can... Can someone please confirm this for me? Has anyone found a resolution?
If not, APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Yes the MBP is currently running Tiger, I want to flatten this with a fresh install of Leopard. I can view the install DVD when in Tiger currently.
I haven't tried what you have suggested, but I have seen various posts suggesting this approach. I've also seen several posts explain how to create a partition on an external firewire Harddrive and this seems to have worked for various people.
This would however mean that I didn't really need the external Lacie drive at all, as I've got access to my G5s DVD drive over the network. The more I search on this, the more convinced I am the USB drive was a bad idea.
Once again thank for the response.

  • My dvd drive not recognized in device manager, getting the yellow explanation mark.

my dvd drive not recognized in device manager, getting the yellow explanation mark. Tried uninstallingdevice drive and scanning for new hardware. scanned for updates, etc. I getting no results. The laptop is a Pavilion DV5. Thanks

    Hi,
It could be that the drive has a Hardware issue, but try the following.
From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, open Device Manager, right click the DVD drive and select Uninstall.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let Windows rediscover the device and check.

  • HT5639 after The Boot Camp for Windows 8? DVD Drive Not Recognized or Reading CD/DVD

after i made The Boot Camp Setup  for running Microsoft Windows 8? DVD Drive Not Recognized or Reading CD/DVD

    thanks for the response
    1. Yeah I thought that's a mandatory thing because i need to be able to control the brightness with my keyboard, updated graphics card, boot camp control panel, etc
    2. No there's no enable for this because Windows 8 recognizes it as a "disconnected device" and asks me to reconnect the dvd drive to the machine (which it obviously already is).
    3. Ive tried those before, also even editing the registry but it didnt work.
It's weird because it never happened before on Snow Leopard » Lion bootcamp driver updates. Just in Mountain Lion

  • EMac External LACIE DVD Drive not reading.

eMac External LACIE DVD Drive not reading.
    eMac 700 MHz running OS X 4.4
Came without DVD or modem internal
    Has 256mb memory
Bought a used Lacie 1394 Firewire DVR External.
Was able to burn DVD’s and CD’s with Toast 6 Light.
Cannot find the “DVD Player” on the hard drive.
    It will read data DVD.
eMac will not read any movies burnt or bought.
I was told I probably need more memory?
Thought running IDVD would fix the problem.
    No Soap.
This machine was giving external modem problems before Tiger was installed.
Before we spend more money or just get ride of the eMac.
    What is the DVD problem?
This same Lacie burner reads and writes DVD and CD fine with our iMac 450 DV 320mb memory. Running 9.2 and X.3

OS X 10.3.x / 10.4.x natively support data burning to external DVD drives but video payback requires software such as iDVD which isn't installed by default on models without an internal DVD drive (the installer sees no internal drive and thinks it's unnecessary). Try downloading VLC Player and see if that will let you play movies.

  • External DVD Drive Not Recognized

Just got a Toshiba portable supermulti DVD/CD drive. My internal drive is fried and figured it would be cheaper to get an external until I can get a new computer. Except, when I plug it into either of my USB ports, the drive lights up and makes noise for about 10 secs, then stops and it does not register on my computer. The drive shows up on the System Profiler, but nowhere else is it recognized. When I try to open Disk Utility, it just says 'Gathering Disk Info' and just pinwheels and is Not Responding until I Force Quit. Any thoughts as to what the issue is? My computer recognizes my external hard drive, iPod and anything else I plug into it and the DVD drive was recognized no-problem by my Dad's new Macook Pro and by my brother's PC. I should say I have the 2007 model Pro. Thanks!

Is the DVD drive externally powered? I.e. does it have a power supply?
For exmple my LG external DVD won't work with a single USB on my Macbook Pro - it requires another usb cable that has a power plug on the end. So both USB ports are used.
It kinda works without power, but it's unreliable, it could be you're having a similar issue?

  • External USB hard drive not being recognized

Hello! I'm sure this has been posted before, but excuse my naivety with this sort of thing...
I have a mac mini 10.5.6 (1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and I run the Time Machine function to an external usb hard drive. The hard drive worked fine (plugged into the usb port on an older keyboard), but I went out and bought a new aluminum apple keyboard (because they look so cool ^_^ ) - I plugged the external usb drive into the keyboard and it wasn't recognized, so I tried plugging the external drive directly into the mac mini, but it is still not recognized. It is not showing up in Disk Utility or in System Profiler
Help? I'd hate to have to give up this fancy keyboard...
    Thank you!
    Dr. E

I believe I had my external drive plugged into the (old) keyboard because with the old mac that I had didn't have a free usb port for it - so when I got the mini I just plugged things back in where they were. But I have always had the Time Machine back up to this drive (connected to the keyboard) though it has been slow (another reason I thought the new keyboard was a good idea).
I tried restarting the computer without the alu keyboard plugged in, but same problem of no drive showing up.
Here is what System Profiler has to say about my drive:
    USB2.0 Storage Device:
    Capacity: 93.16 GB
    Removable Media: Yes
    Detachable Drive: Yes
    BSD Name: disk1
    Product ID: 0x6830

    Available: 53.14 GB
    Writable: Yes
    File System: Journaled HFS+
    BSD Name: disk1s2
    Mount Point: /Volumes/USB
I don't know the brand or model as it has 'always' been in the case that in which it currently resides and I didn't physically buy the thing :\ I do know that no software was installed with the drive as I assumed that when I put all the old info from the original mac to the mini that it was the sort of thing that would carry over.
Sorry I'm not terribly helpful - Thank you!

  • External DVD drive not recognized with Leopard install

I just installed Leopard and my external firewire DVD drive (LG; GSA-5120D) is not recognized.
I used patchburn for Tiger to recognize it but there is not Leopard version. any ideas? thx

I used Patchburn with Tiger. After I removed the Patchburn generated drivers from Library/DiscRecording/DeviceProfiles and restarted, it now works fine.
