HP Folio-2000 Turn fan off/down

Hi there,
Is therew any way I can reduce the noise coming from my Folio laptop? I purchased it thinking it would be much quieter than my 4yr old notebook, but the opposite is the case.
The fan is permanently on, even when no programs are running, and the fan is pushing cool air out the back!
I have updated the BIOS, and tried using several fan management software programs....surely there must be a way to make this thing a little quieter????
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

No you can't. Reason it probably shuts down is because cpu temps peak over safety threshhold at times thus it shuts down to prevent damage.
Cooling systems on hp's are not the best when working so thermal stress on cpu,gpu & mainboard will be bad & failure failure will occur quite quickly.
Fan assembly is very cheap & can be done DIY if you have some skill in dismantling these sort of things & following hp service manual & other online guides.
I expect a new fan & new thermal paste & shimming along with cleaning would do wonders for running temps & long term health of the notebook.

  • Auto Sleep Doesn't Turn Fan Off

If I put my Mini to sleep the fan turns off no problem, but if the Mini puts itself to sleep the fan stays on.
(I think it's the fan not the hard drive, but am not 100 percent sure.)
Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks.
Mac Mini 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thank you. That is definitely helpful as I have now confirmed that the mini is not asleep — no pulsing of the white power light when left to go to sleep on its own. The light pulses fine when I select Sleep from the Apple menu. It just appears that the screen goes dark and then nothing further happens when I just leave the mini.
I have tried various things like resetting the screensaver and sleep times and have also tried throwing out the PowerManagement plist file but that doesn't seem to have helped (although I didn't log out and then back in). Would that help? I get nervous messing around with files in the System folder!
Anybody got any further suggestions, please.

Hi, and thanks for you interest. The problems is that whether I'm using iMovie or FCE I get to a stage where the thumbnail image is present but if you try to play, import or any other action in either app it closes down and a message comes up " The Application Final Cut Express/iMovie quit unexpectedly - Mac OS X and other application are not affected" then asks if I wish to relaunch. I then hit the report to Apple button and afterwards relaunch. I was recommended to use Voltaic which I have tried, it worked but is to much mucking about for something that should work out of the box.
This problem happens on both the iMAC and the MacBook so quite sure it's not a OS software issue. All software update are up to date also.
    Any ideas?

  • My fan continually runs, how do I turn it off?

My fan continually runs.  When I turn off the power and start up it stays off for about 30 minutes then starts up again.  What can I do to turn off and only turn on when approapriate?

You should never turn your fans off, even if you found a way to do so.  Try an SMC reset:
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

I did a factory reset on my late 2008 MacBook from a Snow Leopard disc. It installed fine, but as soon as I began to use the computer (safari) it froze. Couldn't even force quit. So I held down the power button to turn it off, and now it won't start up. It goes to the grey Apple screen and just sits there loud as can be. Help! Please keep in mind I've not done anything like this before and am going to need a little hand-holding. Thanks in advance.

Hi. Don't worry it's nothing serious. Insert the Instal Disc (Snow Leopard) and press the C button while turning on the computer. Once you see the desktop, go to Utility and choose Disk Utility. Select the Macintosh Partition on the left window pane and then click on Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions on the bottom right corner. Wait for both processes to finish. Click on the Apple icon (top left corner) and choose quit. Your computer should restart. See if it reboots normally. If not you can always reinstall the OS following the same steps. Good luck!

  • Macbook Pro is slow, freezes constantly and I'm forced to hold down the power button to turn it off.

    Hey all,
This is my first post/discussion so hopefully I'm posting in the right section and all. Anyway, as of recently (few days) my Macbook Pro 15" (model previous to the one just released) has been been slow + lagging, also when this happens my computer freezes, but its kind of different: I can still move the cursor around and stuff, but for instance, if its google chrome that freezes I won't be able to close it, (tried force quit), after this, my whole computer kinda freezes and I can't close any of my programs, I can't click on the menu's at the top to shut down or doing anything really, eg. change internet connections. Closing my macbook, like shutting the lid doesn't solve anything, only turning it off by holding the power button for a few seconds, which I'm almost certain isn't a good thing. I've had to do this like 3 times today and its getting pretty frustrating.
Something tells me that it might be because of memory usage, but I'm not entirely sure, I only say this because when looking at the available/free memory using iStat sometimes, its really low, like 12mb, 30mb, etc.
Anyway, I know that's quite a lot of infomration but hopefully its useful, if there's any additional information you require that may be of help to you, please tell me and I'll do my best to provide it.
    Thanks,
    Roshen.

    Roshen,
There are a couple of things you can try, but it sounds to me as if it's a problem with your hard drive.
First, open Activity Monitor in your Utilities folder and see how much of your CPU % is being used by any one application (you can sort by %). If any one application/process is taking up more than 15% or so of your CPU, try killing (quitting) the process.
Second, since yours is a 2011 model, it will have come with Lion installed. Shut down your machine and boot up while holding down the Command and R keys. Open Disk Utility and verify your disk. If it comes up with errors, click repair.
If neither of these work, take your MBP into your local Apple Store. You should still be under warranty, even if you didn't purchase AppleCare. All beforehand and make an appointment.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • The icon on the display when i turn up or down or off the sound it doesn't show up

I don't know if this is the right topic for my problem...
I have a pavilion dv6-3299en Rossignol. I uninstalled some extra features and then i had a very small problem.
It;s not much but  I'd like it to be solved.
When i turn up or down the sound or turn it off by pressing the buttons, there was an icon, an image with the level of the sound that used to appear, now it doesn't.
Same thing when the sound is off, it doesn't show any more an image with a red line... I hope you understand what i'm talking about.
With mousepad no problem, when i doubleclick the up and left corner, an image appears which shows a red line over it when it's offor nothing when it's on.
Hope you can help me. It's nothing important but it's usefull.

    Hi Konstantina,
That could well be the problem; try the following.
Download and install HP MediaSmart Music on the link below.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp51001-51500/sp51027.exe
When the installation has completed, restart the notebook and then re-install HP MediaSmart SmartMenu again.

Again, after this installation, restart the notebook and see if the volume OSD has re-appeared.

even if you wipe the drive LoJack is still there, it's installed in a hidden partition so you would have get rid of the entire OS. I caught a glimpse of the culprit and from what I seen he is more of a low life than a computer nerd. It is possible he could have tried to log-in but didn't notice the guest and admin account. While I see what you're saying I still have some hope, from what I've read online it took people more than a day to see that their laptop had gone online. If it can't get replaced LoJack has a $1,000 guarantee but that still doesn't make up for the $3,000 worth of equipment lost.

Ok, sounds like the safe mode boot worked... You probably don't want to always be in safe mode though (some reduced functionality) so does it do a normal boot now? If not, you should then reboot into safe mode and run Disk Utility. Then select Macintosh HD on the left hand side, and click the Verify Disk button. If needed, it will ask you to Repair Disk. If there are errors found, Repair Disk again until there are none. Then try another normal boot and reply with result, wether good or bad.
