HP G255 Losing WiFi connectivity

Hi, My new HP G255 laptop keeps dropping out of wifi connectivity. I get the little yellow triangle on the signal strength icon. Can you help please? Thanks,

Sorry, I do not remember much about AirPort Utility in Tiger (10.4.11).
It might be called AirPort Admin Utility on Tiger. Look around in the Utilities folder or Applications folder to see if you can find it or something similarly named.
Should be more info and help about the update.....which is called 6.3.....in this Apple support document:
AirPort Express Firmware Update 6.3 for Mac OS X - Support - Apple
Finally, I was not kidding when I said that firmware updates on older devices will sometimes cause them to fail. Proceed at your own risk.

My MacBook Pro keeps losing Wifi connection. Sometimes it says no AirPort Card is installed.  It has also been freezing, and the only solution is to hold the power button to turn it off. Then I have to restart the computer, but everything I was working on is lost.
Any ideas what is wrong or how to fix?

Sounds like your WiFi chip is going bad. Have you gotten it checked by an Apple Store rep ?
Have you deleted the contents of /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration, rebooted and tried ?

This subject has been talked/written about a lot, after Lion was introduced. A solution from Apple has not yet been published, everybody is waiting.

  • IPad Keeps Losing Wifi Connection??

    Hi,
About 2 days ago, my iPad 2 began losing wifi connection. I would have to tap "Forget this network" and then wait a bit and then tap on the network again and type in the password. After that, the iPad would gain wifi again until about 5-20 minutes later, it loses wifi connection AGAIN. Sometimes when I did that it still didn't even work! And it also bothers me because it still has the wifi sign in the top left corner of my ipad screen, even if the wifi connection is not working. This has happened continuously throughout the past 2 days. Sometimes, the wifi would work for a good amount of time before it was gone again, and sometimes it loses connection after like 3 minutes. But all the other electronics in my house are perfectly fine, it's just my iPad 2 that's been doing this.
I tried to tap "forget all network settings" and then restart my ipad, but that didn't help. I'm not sure if it's the iPad's problem (since all the other electronics work) or if it's the wifi.
Please help! This is very annoying.
(And i have a new update which is 7.1.2, but that's been there for a pretty long time bc I always forget to update it. But I don't think that's the problem.)

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • IPad and iPhone keeps losing wifi connection.

    Hi all,
So I'm having wifi connectivity issues that's rather annoying. On a daily basis, both my iPad 1st gen and my iPhone 4S disconnect from wifi and are then unable to connect until i restart my modem. Normally i would think its my modem acting up but no other device on the network has this problem. (All other devices are wifi also) Both my ipad and iphone are current on iOS updates, 5.1.1 and 6.0 respectively. I've tried restarting both devices as well but it doesn't help. Every morning I wake up and every night I get home they both refuse to connect. The iPad stays at my house while the phone remains with me. Any help/input would be great appreciated. Thanks

Although there might be a deeper rooted issue with the iDevices, I did manage to solve the problem another way, I just forgot to give an update in the discussion.
I read in another forum or discussion that the problem might be my wifi signal. I didnt think so at first because it only happened with my iDevices. So, just to be safe, i purchased a high end router designed for extreme gaming and sure enough.. I havent had a single issue with with my iDevices losing connection. From the very moment i plugged it in...no issues. That was about 3 1/2 months ago. All my devices (Laptop, Xbox, Ps3, wii U, Iphone, and iPad) have Excellent connection at all times except when my modem (not the router i purchased)  needs to restarted but thats normal and does not happen very often.
So if youre having any sort of connectivity issues with your WiFi i strongly suggest investing in an good router. I wont ever go without one ever again
Upon request, i will link the one i got, if anyones interested.

  • IMac keeps losing Wifi connection

Hello, I'm having an annoying problem where my iMac keeps losing its wifi connection. I've tried many things including messing around with the network preferences and trying an internet range extender. The only thing I can think of is that the distance from my router to my iMac has 4 walls in between, so maybe thats causing the wifi error. The only way to solve this is to disconnect and then reconnect back to the internet. This gets really annoying when I'm watching a video or trying to upload something. Thanks for your help.

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 5
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • My iPod touch 5 has been losing wifi connection and crashing. It has also lost the correct time. I've reset and rebooted, but nothing has helped. Any ideas?

My daughter's iPod touch 5 first crashed when listening to iTunes Radio, then it started losing my wifi connection, especially if We went to safari to search. The screen continues to crash, by turning dim then black very suddenly, or green with lines then black. I've rebooted. I've reset. I've tried backing up onto iTunes for a restoration, but have lost many pictures and some apps. One other strange occurrence is that the time has changed on its own. It's like it's possessed. Please help.

It states the iOS 7.0.2 is up to date. Also continues to lose wifi while trying to check this.
The crashing is what is slowing time down, I think. It's a half hour off already

  • Ipad3 losing  wifi connection after IOS 7.1 DL.  FIX??  I have reset, rebooted, etc.  This is unacceptable.

my ipad 3 is losing wifi or not letting streaming content happen after DL of IOS 7.1.  WIll not connect to the internet either.  Fix?? I have rebooted everything. HELP! now i have a $600 brick.

it sounds from your description like you have not made peace with your router.  suggest you reboot the router and the pad (as you have probably already done).  In settings, wifi - "forget" the network, the rejoin.  You will need to re input your password.
In one case, I needed to actually change the password in the router, then rejoin - that seemed to wake it up.
To test what is happening, go somewhere that has a public wifi - like a starbucks or Macdonalds - Make sure your wifi works there.

  • IPad (3rd gen) losing wifi connection during BBC iPlayer downloads

    Hi,
I am having a strange, app-specific problem with my iPad 3rd generation (wifi only, 64GB) running iOS 6.1.3.
When I use the BBC iPlayer app (version 2.0.5.33) to download a TV show to watch offline, my iPad almost always loses wifi connection a minute or two into the download, and it stays disconnected until I go into Settings > Wifi and select my home network again. If I resume the download in iPlayer, the same issue will typically recur within a minute or two.
I am not having any other connectivity problems with this iPad, and other sizeable downloads (e.g. from iTunes, from the App Store etc) are not having the same issue. Similarly, I can stream live BBC iPlayer content without issue - it is just the iPlayer downloads that seem to create this condition (which then effects the whole iPad / all other running apps).
I have tried to "forget this network", resetting network settings and restoring my entire iPad - none of these have stopped the issue. Interestingly, during restore of the iPad I received ugly BIOS-esque messages relating to AppleBCMWLANCore, which have disappeared after a hard reboot (power + home buttons together) - does this indicate a problem with the iPad hardware itself?
Anyone else experiencing something similar? Any suggestions to fix this? Or am I dependent on the BBC updating the app?
    Cheers,
    James

    Hey James,
I would try out standard third party application troubleshooting and see if that resolves the Wi-Fi issue. :
    1. Update your device software
    2. Check for app updates
    3. Install another app from the App Store
    4. Restart the application
    5. Restart your device
    6. Reinstall the affected application
For more info on each step, check out the full article:
iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
If none of those steps work, then you would want to contact the developer of the application for further assistance.
    Regards,
    David

  • Wifi adapter in Windows 7 losing wifi connection

    Hi,
a problem occurs while i'm running windows 7 64bit bootcamp on my mpb 13" late 2013.
It's with the broadcom 802.11ac network adapter, driver from bootcamp installation. Even though signal strength varies from 3 to 5 bars, it happens every now and then that i lose connection. Right clicking connection and repairing doesn't work. I can fix it by moving towards my wifi router making signal strength excellent. (this is rather annoying, and should not be necessary)
No such problem in OSX, wifi connection always fine.
Is there some magic setting in device manager (there's a list of parameters that I don't comprehend) with which I can prevent this from happening?
    Cheers

    Hi Axel,
Now that you know your local network works correctly for a computer not connected to internet or intranet, you have to do this:
1- For "No Connection" error (it is not necessary for the sap system to work), it's normal.
Create a local intranet with a 2nd computer if possible and make a configuration for home network after you will see "Connected"
    2-Use of Pc hostname
You must configure the "profile parameters" by using transaction RZ10 and activate services (it's not easy, you have to take your time).
    3- Webdynpro
To see the result of the webdynpro appli, you may know that not all web browser versions are compatible. The recent browsers don't work, use iexplorer8 or mozilla but not google ==> you will solve the problem of "timeout".
    After that:
Activate the "internet communication framework" by using Transaction SICF. It takes you to "Maintain Services" and then fill Hierarchy Type ==>services, execute to reach at this step:
default_host/sap/bc/gui and icf ( If you've installed sap java, you will see both sap and sap_java)
do a mouse right click and select "Activate Service" and choose activate all.
You can now test the sample via web browser by using locahost.
    Best regards.
