Hi,
The most likely cause is that the HDD has failed.
Have you had any issues with the notebook freezing/crashing recently before this current problem?
Try removing and re-seating the Hard Drive - the process is detailed starting on Page 53 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
If re-seating the HDD has no effect, try the the following to rule out a problem with the Sata Controller.
On another PC, follow the procedure on the link below to create a bootable Ubuntu CD and follow the steps in Part 3 to 'Try it' to see if this OS will run from the CD. The 'try it' option does not need to install on the Hard Drive, it just runs from the CD.

Let me know if this will run. Also let me know if your notebook is under warranty.

i plug that tv tuner usb to my usb port on HP G42. My notebook not detect new hardware. There not notification on taskbar about new hardware. I use Windows XP SP3. If i use Windows 7 problem was the same. I try that on my PC it work. And i try that on my second laptop its work. Please help me....

The problem I've had in Mac Pro with Hauppauge's USB myTV.PVR (which also had Eskape CD - 32 Bit that ran in Leopard but not Snow) was same message in Vista U. 32Bit : this device can perform better...
which I ignored. The message does not occur in Windows 7. I do have problems with MCE not recognizing the tuner occasionaly but prefer to use Hauppauge's WinTV 5,6,7 App. in any case.

Why is my 8 gigs of ram not fully usable on a Windows 7 64-bit system with an HP G42?

The title contains most of the details, but to re-explain briefly, I recently installed two 4 gig sticks of ram in my HP G42-415DX. The full 8 gigs shows as installed, but only 3.74 gigs is showing as usable. I have verified that I have a Windows 7 64-bit system (Home Premium to be exact), and I have recently updated drivers (at least I'm sure I've updated all the drivers, but it is possible for one or two utility type drivers not being installed) to try to solve the problem, to no avail.
If there's anything more I can provide, let me know.
EDIT: And while I'm thinking of it, they are 8500's.

See if this works...
Run msconfig.
In the System Configuration screen, Boot tab, Advanced Options, if there is a check mark in the box next to Maximum memory. Remove that checkmark and save your changes.
Reboot and hopefully Windows recognises all the Ram ( minus the reserved ) after restarting.
Please give that a try, and post back and let us know if that frees up some system memory for you.

The DC7800 SFF was not designed to run modern games. Modern games for most situations would require a graphics card and a supporting power supply of 400-600 watts which is not available for your PC. Another factor is the dimm speed in your PC which is inherently slow for video processing.

You can also try making a legitmate windows 7 installation media if you can read the 25 character Microsoft W7 product key on the bottom of your PC.
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.

Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.

You Can disable that functionality by disabling "Action Keys Mode" in the BIOS...

HP G42 Notebook Windows 7 - continued to crash - now says Reboot Device not found.

I have a HP G42 Notebook Laptop
Product Number - XZO46UA#ABA
It is a Windows 7 64 - bit PC
What it has been doing is Constantly Crashing and going to blue screens, and when you move the mouse to turn it on the fans ill be very loud, and at times Lap-top will get extremely hot!! Just Yesterday it crashed and then restarted but then it went to a black screen that says (Boot Device Not Found) and i don't think that i have a Reboot Disk!!
And there has been absolutely no Changes made to the PC before this issue had accured.
If anybody can give me any information on how to Fix this problem or if i have to go to HP store or have Technition come out?

Suddenly the system now recognises that the monitor has a 5-touch input and the installation is running.
Not sure what solved it:
- Had Windows check for a frech driver (it was up-to-date)
- Fiddled around a little in Paint just to see if 5-touch input is working
- Activated a second display (not touchscreen)
I then looked at the System information screen again, and the number of tocuh point appeared correctly

G42 processor speed problem

I have a HP G42 i5 Lap top with 4GB RAM working on Windows 7 32 bit operating system.the problem ocurred since 2 months. When I working with the charger there is no any matter. But just plug off the charger processor increase to 100% and can't do any work.Its become like stuck. Then charger replace back(plug in) the problem is solved.I have format my lap and reinstalled windows. But problem has not solved. How can I recover my laptop. Please tell some guidlines. thanks

have a look at the Energy Options of XP (from Control Panel) and set the energy scheme to be "Desktop".
Might be set to a scheme more appropriate for a laptop (battery useage or the like).

New Hard Drive not seen in Bios F23, hp g42 281la

My old hard drive stopped working (couldnt even restore). I bought a new hard drive (the same) and bios F23 doesnt see it.

HP G42 Fan Running in High Speed and Noisy

I had a HP G42 i5 notebook. Recently I send my notebook for repair due to the graphic card problem. I encountered that the fan speed is running in high speed mode after I the repair. I asked the incharge and he told me that they had did the cleaning on the notebook, so the fan will run in high speed and making noise. I did told that person, it was silence before repair and the fan will only run in high speed mode when the notebook's got heat up. But now it's got into the high speed mode even during startup time.
So I would like to get some advice or comment on this. Is it normal that the notebook's fan speed is running in high speed and noisy since startup? Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry for the delay in my reply, as I have been out of the office since last Thur. The instructions would have been the same for your notebook, but not the same BIOS.
This document will guide you through updating your BIOS if you wish. Since the noise is reduced once Windows begins, I would not worry too much about this.

If you know the location and you have all the songs in there, you could try the below:
For iTunes 9:
Choose File > Library > Organize Library
For iTunes 8:
Choose File > Library > Consolidate Library

A message will pop up.
For iTunes 9:
Place a check next to "Consolidate files" and click OK.

Audio problems in HP-G42 465LA.

Hi, my HP- G42 465LA have problems to process audio in real time... i use a program called LatencyMon and it talk about buffer underruns, and i liten drops outs, clicks & drops in the audio, i dont know what else to do (i turned off the wifi, use in the maximum performance energy plan, actualize drivers and bios, and finaly changed windows 7 32 bits to windows 64 bits... Ive analized with 2 latency programs, DPC Checker and Latencymon Here's a capture of latencymon and i detailed down the image, the inform that the program makes of what is causing that problems...

Don't think it is your PC's that are faulty , i have had a TAC case open on this issue for some time now - have recognised it as a defect , and it is currently pending release ,
CSCsm73933 - the bug id is not view-able yet , don't know if it will be
if / when TAC gives me a ES , i will let you know the version so you can request it from them
