HP G6 1331SA Single Blinking Light

Hello. My sister's G6 recently decided to play dead and all that happens is a single blinking light on the caps lock every couple of seconds, and the fans at 100%.
After looking on the Blink Codes page on HP it seems that it could be the CPU? But I saw a thread which the person has the exact same issue and after replacing the cpu, the problem continued. I've done the usual stuff, power reset, different ram etc. I've also cleaned the thermal paste and replaced it with Artic Silver with no luck.
My boss seems to think it could be the Graphics Card but like I said, it blinks once. My dad has the exact same laptop so I'll try that CPU but unfortunetly I left the faulty laptop at work so I thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas on what else it could be?

Hello @Luke9857,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I have read your post on how there is a single blinking light on your notebook computer, and I would be happy to guide you towards a resolution!
Since the light only blinks once in a sequence, this means the CPU is not functional according to this document on Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps. To proceed, I recommend contacting our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • RAM Issues: 4GB installed, 1GB showing After blinking light

    Hey Folks,
After doing some research online I found that my recent issue, which has come up in the past, was probably a RAM seating issue. The issue where the Fan begins running loudly at hyper speed. I forced a shut down, restarted up and saw no issue. Shortly there after the issue returned. I forced a shut down once more, but this time was met with a blinking power light.
I remembered from past experience that it was a sign of RAM issues so I unplugged, unseated and reseated all four of the RAM on my cards. Initial start up was met with same response. In fact it wasn't until the 6th or 7th seating and reseating, and RAM position switch that I got the computer to start back up. (The initial successful start up was with one card and what should have been 2GB.)  I checked the About this Mac.. and saw Memory listed as 1GB 667  MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM. The 1GB threw me off because at that moment there should have been 2.
Shortly there after I backed some things up and tried reseating the other card with the other 2 gigs in it. This time I was able to start up however the System still shows the Memory as 1GB 667 MHz...
I did notice a single red light on one of the cards and am curious if this is trying to tell me anything, or if this is an indication of a poor installation. Also looking for any advice on why the computer is not seeing all 4 gigs, and if some of them may be out of service.
Any advice would be much appreciated, and please pardon my lingo because I'm not sure all my wording is correct.
    Thanks
MAC Pro 2007/08 running 10.6.8 2x2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon

    Failed RAM.
Stop beating yourself up over insertion technique. These things get mighty hot and they FAIL.
If they have a reseller's sticker on them, like Otherworld computing or 1-800-Memory or such, call them and ask for lifetime warranty replacements. Otherwise, think hard about how much RAM you really need and go buy some.

  • G42-415dx single blink caps lock - options

My beloved G42 has bit the dust. I get nothing on the screen. The light on the caps lock key is doing the single blink. HP docs says this is the code for bad CPU.
    I tried blowing out dust.
I tried unplugging, removing battery, holding power button 15 seconds, plug in and leave battery out and then turn on.
    I tried removing the RAM
I've done every troubleshooting step I could find and it still gives me the single blink and doesn't boot.
    1) is there anything else I should try?
    2) Can I fix this myself by replacing the CPU?
    Thank you

  • W510 won't boot (blinking lights syndrome) - solved...

    Hi,
My W510 problems have been quite similar to the "won't awake from sleep" postings elsewhere on this forum.  Went into hibernation, then could not be wakened and ended up in the blinking lights syndrome state (every 5 seconds, the various lights flash, along with possibly a barely audible single beep; need to hold power button down for >10sec to stop).  But mysteriously, after a few hours I did get it to boot.  Then I did a shutdown (from Windows 7).  Upon returning the following day, and pushing the power button, I get the blinking lights syndrome -- no POST, no ThinkVantage screen - just black screen.  So this **bleep** blinking lights syndrome can be independent of sleep/wake problems.
Cutting to chase, since this is an 8GB RAM machine (from factory), with 2-2 & 2-2, I popped out the 2 DIMMs from the top (keyboard) DIMM slots.  This allowed me to reboot!  I surmise a loosely seated DIMM.  In fact, a **bleep** metal sheet partially obstructs removing/replacing the lower slot's DIMM -- if a factory tech needed to fiddle with DIMMs, I bet this sheet would get in the way! (snip-snip...)
I shutdown, replaced the top DIMMs (bringing it back to 8GB) and successfully rebooted again.
For reference, other possible sins to avoid, that other forum threads have implicated in this blinking lights syndrome, at least for sleep/wake problems are:
       * use of USB mouse plugged into side (3.0, "SS") slot when booting (or changing power state?)
       * use of VGA port (i.e., to duplicate displays)  "          "                "                 "                  "
Both of these wereearlier  true for me.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Sounds like the OS has corrupted, if I were you I would press ThinkVantage Button on boot and see what are my options to repair the OS. You should save your data in case you plan to do a factory restore, RnR has options like "Rescue files" which allows you to put your files on an external drive.
However, in case you aren't using lenovo preload, then you can use XP disc to do a repair installation, you would need to set SATA to Compatibility mode in the BIOS for the HDD first (press F1 to enter the BIOS on lenovo logo -> Config -> SATA -> change the setting to Compatibility -> Save before exiting the setup), when you're in the BIOS, be sure to make the optical drive as first boot device in there, too.
Following are some guides on repair installation:-
    http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm#RI
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/operatingsystems/ss/instxprepair1.htm
As for the battery, once you're successful in restoring Windows, try battery reset, to do so launch ThinkVantage Power Manager -> Switch to Advanced Mode -> Battery -> Battery Maintenance -> Perform a rest.
Also verify if your battery falls under following firmware update by tallying the FRU number (which can be found in the Power Manager):- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-75738.html

  • Linksys Network Everywhere Model NH1005 - Network Cable Unplugged / Blinking Lights

I just replaced a computer on our network.  I connected the network cable to Port 2 on the hub, and it blinks.  I switched ports to make sure it wasn't a bad port, but continue to get the blinking lights.  On the computer, it's telling me the network cable is unplugged.
    Any ideas?

Make sure you are using a patch cable and not a crossover, the easiest way to tell is to compare the ends of the cable side by side and make sure the colors are in the same order.

  • Stop the sleep blinking light in lenovo g-470, whining sound from the power adapter , HEEEEEELP !!!

Hi, hope anyone can help me.
I own a lenovo b560 and a g470, the sleep light will blink when I go to sleeping mode, anyway the problem is not the light, the problem is the whining sound it produces the power adapter when the light start blinking, in both machines I hear that whining noise, but in the g470 is much louder, I don´t know if this is because I have a faulty adapter or something, the strange thing is that both adapters make the noise when I sleep the laptop, when I turn off or hibernate the whining sound disappear.
Also, I notice that the whining sound alternate in 2 types of sounds, one is high in pitch and the other lower, the high pitch is when the blinking light turn on when go to sleep and the lower pitch of the sound is when the light go off, and that is repeating until I resume the laptop, it´s very annoying, especially when I´m in a quiet room.
So my theory is that maybe somehow I can turn off the blinking light when the laptop goes to sleep and then maybe the whining sound will go away, but I don´t know, it´s only an a idea.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks !

  • Macbook Pro I get a light for a few seconds then a blinking light, then nothing, no start up, nothing.

I can't restart my Macbook Pro after putting it to sleep.  I now get a blinking light, then nothing.  The computer will not start up, even after doing what is recommended in the mannual.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Were you able to solve it?  How were you able to resolve it?  Thanks for any help you can send my way.  mt

Thanks for the help.  Unfortunately I live a 5 hour drive to my closest Apple store, so making a "Genius" appointment is not possible at this time.  I have tried re-seating my memory cards, I have also tried using the original memory cards that I replaced in favor of more memory.  I got the 3 beeps and 5 second pause 3 beeps indicating that the RAM doesn not pass integrity check.  Am I still at the "Genius" appointment?  Thanks for your help.

  • HP PSC 2355 Blue screen of Death and Error message/ blinking lights.

Hello, I have a HP PSC2355 that we recently moved, after we moved it started randomly locking up with the Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD), it would give an error:0X880529ec on the BSOD, further down the screen were the characters 1:H+x?+  The (ON) light was Blinking Green, the (!) light was blinking orange.  This will happen regardless if the PC was on or not, it will happen when trying to print, sometimes only getting 1" of print at the top of the page.  Currently running Windows XP, SP3 connected via USB.  I highly doubt it is a PC issue as it will happen when trying to use it as a standalone copier.  Sounds internal to me, I do have electronics experience ( I repair televisions )  If someone has any ideas, let me know.....
I might also add, you dont have to be printing for the error to crop up, you can just plug it in and wait, later you will see the BSOD and the blinking lights.

Well, decided to try to print from another computer, d/l the smaller driver only package (26meg), did a fresh install after finally getting the printer to stay on for a few minutes, it took forever on the first part of 8 on the installer (cable already plugged in), and it has been on for many hours now, printed many things, yet to have an error.  Dont know if the driver installation did anything with the firmware on the unit or not.
    Differences:
    Celeron Laptop (virus/trojan free) now
Was on a P4 desktop that had not been so lucky with the trojan/viruses.
Upstairs on my dining room table now
Was in basement in wife's scrapbooking room.
    Dunno, time will tell.......

    Still will not print...help?

    Hi Hamlin,
The blinking lights you are seeing could be alerting you to a carriage jam, caused either by a paper jam or a foreign object.
If this is not the problem, review the following HP troubleshooting document for help in diagnosing your your problem.

  • Blinking lights office jet pro 8600

HP has been very cooperative in clearing my problem.  I am on my 3rd office jet pro 8600 plus, N911g.  After a short period the blinking lights appear "turn printer off, then on" no other message.  It's OK for a brief period and then the lights reappear.  I have done everything HP support says....I have also moved the printer from room to room thinking that might help....still the same problem.  Any suggestions, or must I just accept the lights.  I am using Windows 7.  Also an HP Laptop.  Love HP and the printer.

    Welcome to the forums Migee,
I saw your post about your Officejet 8600 showing blinking lights and the message to turn the printer off. I would like to share my suggestion that might help!
Update the printers firmware: Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates
Plug the printer in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Let me know if that helps. If not, please let me know if the printer is still in warranty with HP and we will go from there.

Did you ever fix this? My daughters is the same. Treated with tender loving care, we reset to factory and it disappeared but was back again after 2 or 3 days. Still in warranty so going to take to the genius bar, however a bit concerned that because it belongs to an 11 year old they are going to assume she's damaged it.
