HP G60-230US does not boot (disk indicator does not come on)

My HP G60-230US does not boot up. Here's the behavior:
- Power button is pressed and comes on, wi-fi button lit orange
- Power LED near the power cord stays lit solid
- On the front-left side, the power indicator LED stays lit solid, battery LED off, disk LED never comes on and is not blinking (indicating disk is not spinning);
- During the process the caps lock indicator on the left side neither comes on nor blinks
Tried following and problem remains:
- Power off by press and hold power button for few seconds, then power back on as above
- Reset. Battery and power cord out, press & hold power button over 20 secs, then power back on.
- Tried removing battery and power the laptop with power cord alone, still no luck.
It seems that this happened after I opened memory compartment on the back panel, and removed battery once to check its model information. One thing: I did that when the laptop was in sleep mode.
Another fact: battery has become non-rechargeable in past few months and I have been using the laptop with power cord plugged in.
Please help!
Richard

  • USB Ports on HP G60-230US Notebook Not Detecting USB Devices

I've had an HP G60-230US Notebook PC for about three and a half years now, and all of a sudden tonight my USB ports decided to all stop working.  I first noticed it when I tried to hook up my iPod to sync it and it didn't show up in iTunes.  I unplugged my wireless mouse to see if the other USB port would work with no luck, and when I plugged my wireless mouse back in it wasn't detected either.  I tried restarting my computer twice to see if that would take care of the problem but it didn't.
My notebook currently runs Windows Vista.  On a normal day I'll have my external harddrive (WD My Passport Essential 500 GB), my wireless mouse (Microsoft Wireless Mobile 3500) and my Targus Chillmat with 4 USB hubs in the back plugged into my 3 USB ports.  My printer is usually plugged into one of the Chillmat's USB ports.  When I want to sync my iPod I usually unplug the Chillmat because none of the USB hubs on it will detect the iPod.  At the moment my wireless mouse will still work if I leave it plugged into its USB port when I restart my computer, and all the chillmat is doing is cooling my laptop down.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

You may have exceeded the available power capacity of the USB ports in your notebook PC too many times. That can result in non functioning (forever)  ports. That is the specific reason that I recommend only using externally powered USB hubs.
You can check the current carrying capacity of the USB ports and see how much they are using via the device manager.
Open Device Manager and then right-click a USB root hub. Select properties and then the Power tab.
This particular system has many ports available.

  • [Sol 10 11/06 SPARC on Sun Blade 2500] Could not determine boot disk?

    dear all,
I have a problem during installation of Solaris 10 11/06 Sparc on Sun Blade 2500. After I choosing "Initial Install" at "Select Upgrade or Initial Install" stage, appears the following error message :
"Note : Default install is not possible. Default boot disk could not be determined"
I have already concerned that the installation DVD is well burned, and the DVD-ROM is worked, but I'm not sure that the HD itself is well or defect. Could anyone tell me or figure out how would I do?

Most likely you have a disk problem. I think it may not have found a disk. If the install process left you in a shell, I would suggest using format, to see what it thinks. My guess it does not see any disks.
Another option from the ok prompt (also called OBP), is run probe-scsi or whatever the device type it. Check the options available at the ok prompt.

  • Boot Camp not installing Windows 7 - "No bootable device, insert boot disk and press any key."

I need some help with something. A while back, I put a brand new hard drive in my MacBook, a 500 GB model to replace the 120 GB one. I cloned everything successfully to the new drive via Carbon Copy Cloner, but now I want to make a Boot Camp partition on the drive. The SuperDrive in it is defective, so I use an external FireWire drive. So far the Boot Camp Assistant in 10.7 Lion works fine in creating the partition, but when it gets to the part where it tries to boot into the Windows installation disk (32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, or could the 64-bit work fine as well?), it shows a black scree nwith "No bootable device, insert boot disk and press any key." I try pressing keys, but nothing happens.
I also tried using rEFIt, but that didn't work out either.
Here are the specifications of my machine...
    MacBook (Early 2009 model)
2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
    4 GB of RAM
    500 GB SATA hard drive
Dual-layer SuperDrive (defective, may replace it once I have the cash)
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics chip
    Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion
Can anyone help me out with this? Is there some sort of workaround?

Believe it or not, it was the FireWire drive that was the problem! I managed to successfully install Windows 7 using an external USB DVD drive!
Well I am truly staggered, I have tried this on two different MacBook Pros, with three different external USB optical drives. Don't know if you googled as I suggested but you would find hundreds of others who have found same thing. The exception is MacBook Air which works with the Apple writer, but I don't know much about this.
Were you doing any of the special workarounds with refedit etc?
    What model USB DVD drive?

This didn't work for me, so I did a bit of searching and TONS of pages later in google, I found an answer. Here are the steps for people who also were in my situation:
    1. Take off bottom case
    2. Unplug battery - blurry image here: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/03cC79r5Dx4/0.jpg
    3. Press and hold power button for 5 seconds
    4. Plug a charger in, and it should start booting up
    5. After shutting down again, reconnect the battery and close the case up
    6. It works! (hopefully, if you guys had the same situation I did)

  • Lock of choice boot disk is not persistent

    Good evening,
I want to lock the system preferences start to ensure that the iMac does not seek a boot disk on USB devices.
So I select the internal disk OS X and locks the settings by clicking on the padlock.
While I don't shutdown the iMac, the lock remains closed.
But each time I restart the iMac, I noticed that the lock is open again for the preference of the startup disk.
    Is this normal?
Why this configuration is not persistent between restarts?
(Contrary to other locks them securely locked remaining)
    I forgot something?
    Thank you for your help.
ps: I also did a PRAM reset, without success.

  • Iphone 4 is not recognized by itunes, will not sync, charge indicator icon does not come on when hooked to usb charger

When I hook my iphone 4 up to itunes, it does not show up on the left. It will not sync, and the lightning bolt charging indicator on the phone does not come on although it appears to be charging over time because the battery level has increasd.
I am running Mac OS X, up to date as is my iTunes. I tried the steps from the website troubleshooting guide and nothing worked.

Additionally, charging through other devices such as my car charger has the same symptoms.

at least that the operator has confirmed to me that he called me. I also have problems with either the start of the mac with the power off. I can not understand if it crashes or is just very very slow.
Finally, I have a problem with the external hard disck. I often said to have been ejected incorrectly (not true) and I start to restore the startup recovery disk because disk utility is ineffective from the normal operating system .. is a shocking thing, but how you reduced. in four years it had never happened. seem to have windows or worse. Wake up.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • I have a disk in my mac and came not get it out?  I use the command E key to eject but it does note come out?

I have a disk in my mac but it does note come out useing command e to eject? how do i get it out or do I have to get it jixed?

    Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

  • PSCS5 will not open from external boot disk

Because OS 10.8.2 was the worst update in Apple history, for the first time ever I decided to  do the 10.8.3 update on an external boot disk before sacrificing my internal disk. I used Super Duper to make a bootable clone of my internal , booted from the external and then did the combo update. It seemed to be  ok although they didn't fix the scroll bars in Safari as I had hoped. The first app I tried was Photoshop CS 5.1. It tried to open but I got a window that said "could not inialize scratch disk because disk could not be found". After I clicked OK on that, another window said  "could not open because disk could not be found" .  I have never tried to open Photoshop any version from a bootable backup before and I don't know what this means. The scratch disk for Photoshop is set to be my internal drive Macintosh HD.  Why would it not find it?  If I were booting from my internal and had set the scratch to the external it would find it. Why would the app be looking for itself on another disk?
After recloning my internal which is still 10.8.2, I have not yet booted from the external to see if the problem was somehow caused by 10.8.3, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. People have reported the usual weird behavior of an upgrade already on forums, but not this paricular problem
I am runninga 2011 mini with dual i7 and 8 GB of RAM.

Just to be clear, resetting the Photoshop prefs is troubleshooting 101. I'll admit that since Photoshop CS and OS X, the need for resetting the prefs has gone way down (although I had a lot of problems when Photoshop first included GPU).
However, if you EVER have a hang/force quit or an actual crash, you should seriously consider resetting the prefs because, well, in a hang or crash, that's when pref can get corrupted...afterwhich Photoshop can misbehave and cause problems.
But in this case, resetting the prefs was a fix for the issue where the exact directory path for a scratch disk no longer existed and thus kept PS from even launching...
Although the OP hasn't given an update, I'm 99.9999% sure his Photoshop is back to launching correctly...and that the issue was fixed by trashing the prefs.

  • Mac os x 10.4.6 x86 boot disk not booting on my power pc

I have a g4 power pc (550mhz) and i have the disk. I put it in and go to system options/startup disks. Click that and hit restart. It restarts but goes right back to desktop like normal. I open the cd hit install. Enter my password and reboot. and it reboots as normal. I hold option when booting and only the HD comes up. How can I install this OS!?

What Tiger install DVD are you using? You need to use a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray) (See Can I use another Mac's system restore disc on my Mac? ).
    More info.
After you install the base 10.4.x, update to the final Tiger version 10.4.11. Here's the link for the 10.4.11 combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US

I do not have a recovery disk. What should I do? Do I need a new hard drive or something? Help!

    Good morning,
I am having the same problem with my daughter's laptop.  It is a satellite C655D-S5518. Serial #2C231282Q and part # PSC0YU-032029.
I have tried all suggested options above but still no luck.  When I hold the zero key and turn on the computer it just beeps and won't go into the recovery screen.  My 9 year old daughter saved up to buy this with her own money in May 2012 and when I called the tech support I was told to have my credit card ready to pay for phone support.
I shouldn't have to pay for support two months after purchase...
    Please help!
