Hp g60 418ca, how to restore sound after installing windows 8.

I installed Windows 8 on hp g60 418ca.  I have tried all troubleshooters, guidelines, etc. but have not succeeding in getting the sound working.  There are no windows 8 drivers, but I've tried the W7 and Vista drivers using various compatiblity modes.  I've tried to let W8 update the driver.  The devices DO show up in control panel/device manager and when I test them the volume level bars move up and down, but no sound comes through speakers and/or headsets.
Do I just need to wait for HP to release drivers... what is the best approach?

Hi doug_125,
More than likely HP is not going to support hardware for W8 on any system purchased before Oct 1st 2011. Some updates for W8, most W7 drivers will work in W8.
If you still had Windows 7 installed, you could run the Upgrade assistant software, it will scan your PC and generate a report on what is currently installed on your PC is compatible with W8.

Here is a document for covering upgrading to Windows 8 http://goo.gl/CO6uV
The document is fairly extensive, covering all sorts of issues. There is a section about audio drivers. Perhaps it will help.
Please let me know if it does help.

I cannot find your audio driver on HP's support page, but I was able to locate this one, which is the same driver as yours, just the most recent version. According to what is listed, it supports Windows 8. Give it a shot and let me know if it works for you.

  • NO SOUND AFTER INSTALLING WINDOWS 8.1

Hi, I'm hoping someone will be able to help.  My sister has a compaq 58 laptop and after installing windows 8.1, now has no sound.  The sound was there when 8.1 was installed but after logging off and logging back on again, the sound disappeared.  We reinstalled windows 8.1 and same thing happened.  We have run scans and got sound again but once again logging off and logging back on again, the sound disappeared, very frustrating.
The product code is DOX18ea#abu and serial number [edited Serial Number by Moderator]
    help would be much appreciated.

Devina,  This seems to be a common problem with Windows 8.1. It does not save a working state when logging off. I was afraid to touch my pc when the AUDIO was in a working state. However Microsoft logged me off with no fear and did not save the working state. What a great "glutware" corp. Having said that when the AUDIO is working it appears to work great! Sure wish HP/MICROSOFT could get their act together. Can you say "BASE BAND" , "DSP", "FIR" ETC. Well they think they know the fancy stuff. Now if they could just get it to function for normal people. Can you say "KISS".
ham123 ps: just send it back!! for total care!!!

  • No sound after installing windows 7 on HP Pavilion dv1710us Notebook PC

I recently helped my uncle install windows 7 on his HP Pavilion dv1710us Notebook PC
and there was no sound after installation.. i downloaded several drivers for the realtek high definition audio driver (R2.39, 38, 37, etc)
then i tried the original driver from the HP drivers page and installed it.
usually when there is no sound, there would be a red X on the volume icon, but when i installed the original driver from the HP drivers page, there was no more red X.. Thinking that the sound was fixed, I tried to go on youtube and watch a video... i see the green bar moving up and down on the volume slide, but then i can't hear anything.
So is there any realtek high definition audio driver compatible for windows 7 on the HP pavilion dv1710us?
Is there something I have to do, like right click on the application and then change compatibility settings?
    thanks in advance.

I got it to work with windows 7 32 bit. I just went to hp website to support and downloads section. Type in your model number, then select windows xp as the operating system. Then download the audio driver and save it to your desktop. After the file is on your desktop you need to right click on it and click properties, then go to compatability tab and tell it to install as windows xp service pack 3. Hit apply then install. Hope it works for ya, worked for me.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 Missing Sound After Installing Windows 98SE

I have installed Windows 98SE onto my 4600 whose specs are:
    Model PS460A-04163
    P850 14TX 128M 20 DVD ML
I have no sound at all and all sound options are grayed out. I have downloaded a sound driver from Toshiba (Yamaha AC-XG ?) but maybe it was not the correct one. Can someone point me in the right direction for the correct sound driver. I'm also not sure what "series" this model comes under. Thanks for your help. Sep.

Thanks for that. I have tried the Canadian site however the model type I have (PS460A) doesn't exist on their search selection drop down for Part Number. Perhaps it is know as a different model in other countries (I'm in Oz)? Maybe it doesn't matter and I can just pick one of the other 4600 models - I'm unclear on this. Can anyone confirm? Thanks again.

  • How to restore bookmarks after installing Yahoo Messenger deleted them?

Tried to import from Mozilla program files, gonna uninstall messenger see if that makes a difference...
    Thanks

Best is to first find and undelete the previous profile folder and then undelete the bookmarkbackups folder in it with the JSON backups (bookmarks-####-##-##.json)
If you can recover an uncorrupted JSON back then you can use it to restore the bookmarks.

  • No sound after installing Windows 7

I have a four year old HP Media Center m7060n with 3gb of memory.  The only working sound jack on my system is the front green headphone jack.  I have a Logitech 5.1 speaker system that worked fine until the install.  There are two video/sound related yellow triangles in the Hardware list:
Conexant 23880 Video Capture (Blackbird NTSC dual input)
    Conexant 2388x MPEG Encoder (Dual-input)
The  High Definition Audio Controller and High Definition Audio Device both appear to be working properly.
I have installed every driver that I can find that might help.
Logitech says that my speaker model is compatible with Win 7.
HP doesn't even list Win 7 as an OS when I look for updates ... only XP and Vista.  The updates for Vista have nothing to do with sound.
Windows Updater gave me several new drivers including ones for the two Conexant devices.
So far nothing has worked.  I am using a workaround by plugging the green plug from the speakers into the front jack, but that only gives me 2.0 sound not 5.1.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Christie

    Hi Christieamber,
Try installing the driver that is provided by Realtek (the original makers of your audio device): http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
Just select the High Definition Audio Codecs link, accept the agreement, and then select the Win 7 version from the resulting page.
Let us know how it goes.

compaq presario 1629uk no sound  it has red x sign

    Hi:
You should install the latest RealTek HD Audio driver directly from the RealTek Site:
Accept the agreement and download and install the Windows 7 drivers for the version of W7 you have (32 or 64) bit.

  • Restoring GRUB after install windows 8

I just upgraded my laptop from windows 7 to windows 8 so I lost my bootloader.
    1) Can I get the windows8 bootloader to view my arch installation?
    2) If not , how do I best recover my bootloader?

Probably. I remember several years ago, I did something like that. It implied something like dd'ing to a file the mbr with grub, and adding an entry on boot.ini with that file.
But I don't really remember and that was with grub-legacy. Not sure if it is possible now.
Also, while people here can help you with the second option, the first option is more in the windows area support.
Having said that, if you manage to do the first option, maybe it would be a good addition to the grub wiki article.
