HP G60-630US Notebook - Webcam is unknown device + USB device not recognized pop ups [update]

My webcam and everything was working fine last night. I even used my webcam on the new yahoo I had installed a few days before. When I got up this morning and turned on my laptop, I kept getting pop ups every 3 minutes stating USB device not recognized despite not having anything plugged. I check out device manager and see an unknown device and Imaging Devices missing. When I try to go into youcam, it tells me that the cam isn't detected.
My laptop is  HP G60-630US Notebook PC, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.
There were no changes made last night. Although after all this I tried removing all of the usb and rebooting, but nothing worked. I am still getting the frequent pop ups. PLEASE any help would be appreciated.
Update: I just ran the Bios update and instead of unknown device, it says USB composite device

Try this
Use device manager to manually install the webcam driver, Open Device Manager, right click on the unknown image device and select "Update Driver" then "Browse my computer for driver software", then "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" then click the "Have Disk" button, then click the "browse" button, browse to "C:\Windows\inf" folder and find "usbvideo.inf" and select it , then hit OK, drivers should load.

Do you have firewall or anti-virus software running?  If you do, it helps to turn it off.  Otherwise, click on this link and see if it helps:  http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/itunes/

  • USB devices not recognized

    Hi!
Recently my Satellite P105-S6147 stopped recognizing all USB devices. When a  USB device is connected, I got a popup error message saying " one of the USB devices has malfunctioned....."  I tried all the USB ports with the same result.  Then I checked the device(s) (for example Western digital external USB drive)   by connecting to a different computer and it worked without any problem.
    I tried everything mentioned.
Removed the battery and turned power off for a long time. Removing the USB device drives and rebooting the computer so that windows will reinstall the drivers, editing the registry etc.  nothing worked.  Then for no particular reason, I disabled the USB2 Enhanced controller-27CC in the device manager.  All of a sudden the computer recognized the WD drive and a message popped up saying "this device can perform faster...."  The computer now recognizes all the USB devices, but the problem is that they all operate at USB1 speeds.    This is real problem when transferring large files.
The situation now is as follows.  If I reboot the computer with enhanced controller 27cc disabled, it does not do anything when a USB device is plugged in.  Not even an error message.  I then enable the enhanced controller 27CC.  If a USB device is already connected then the device not recognized pop up message appears.  I then disable the enhanced controller 27cc and the USB device is recognized with the "device can perform faster" pop up message.
I think the problem may be with the USB driver but I can't be sure.  The OS is Vista home premium.  Where do I get the correct USB driver?  Help with this problem is much appreciated.

If it were Windows 7, just for giggles I would try downloading and reinstalling the chipset driver
"Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility for Windows 7 (32/64)"
But you have Vista, and I don't see anything similar for Vista.  Back up your stuff and do a complete restore to out-of-box or upgrade it to Win7 is what I recommend.   Vista seems to be good at corrupting system files.  Plus, if you've never done a Restore, you're probably past due.  I had all kind of weirdness going on with the L505D-S6947 Win Vista after running it 3 years without wiping and reinstalling.  Doing a Restore straightend it out.
You could also try searching the Windows Vista forum.  http://www.vistax64.com/  or wherever the 32bit one is.
    I found this w/ Google:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-hardware/windows-vista-usb-device-not...
USB is not only data, it's power.  Back in the LX and 440BX chipset days, the first USB ports couldn't supply enough power for high-draw devices like document scanners.  The solution was to buy a powered USB hub, one that has an AC power supply.  You'd plug the USB hub into the PC, and then plug your USB devices into that.  And the AC power supply would supply the power that the motherboard couldn't.   That might be a pach, if the problem does turn out to be the motherboard itself.

  • My Zen Micro Problem--USB Device Not Recogni

I'm terribly terribly sorry if this question has already been answered, but I tried searching through the forums and found no solution to my problem. Although my Zen had worked fine for a few monthns (aside from the loose headphone jack grr), my computer recently doesn't recoginize it. When I plug it in, a yellow box that says "USB Device not Recognized" pops up. I tried plugging it in other slots but I still get the same message. I even tried it on another computer and it still wasn't recognized. I repeatedly unistalled/installed the software and drivers from both the cd and website. I also uninstalled the MTP but now I don't know how to install it again. I even reformated my Zen. Oh, and I'm using WinXP. Is there any hope for my Zen? Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

So you were on the v.2 firmware? And now you've switched to v. Or did I read that incorrectly?
If it ceased to recognize your player using v.2, you might want to try uninstalling the player from your USB port (you can do this through the system manager). If you're receiving this error message using v., then try unistalling the player driver from the USB port (again, in system manager), restart your computer, then reinstall the driver. I've had to do that a few times for my digital camera. If that doesn't work, you might try contacting tech support.
    Good luck!

  • Device not recognized (NEW KIND OF PB) (Video Blaster Webcam 5)

    Hello
I have a Dell Optiplex GX0, Pentium-3 730MHz, 384 SDRam, 2 USB ports, Win XP pro SP2. All are fully operational. Newest Creative Webcam driver (2002 for xp, something like that)
My webcam 5 was ok until this morning
    the day before yesterday: ok
yesterday : ok ----------- and then I installed Active Webcam 7.6 (webcam CCTV software)?I configure, etc. It works.
    this morning: ok ---I change some configs :gain / frequence Hz / via the Creative config sofware, it's ok?----------then I use Active Webcam 7.6 : I change the frame rate configuration of this programm (5 +"apply", then 20 +"apply", then 5 +"apply" , 0 +"apply" ) It's okay agin?
In the end I decide to set?5 frames/second, AND THEN......BUG!!!!!!!!!!!Active Webcam 7.6?totally freezes so I kill the process via ctrl+alt+suppr
Even the Creative config sofware freezes when I want starting it. well, I kill it too.
I reboot, AND THEN.......crap.... I see the usb icon on the tray of the task bar?saying "DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED" ......and the device manager of the system panel does not show my webcam 5 any longer.
........well nothing very annoying, I thought, it is worth rebooting, re-install creative software/driver with new/old versions, seeing some topics on forums etc...
NOTHING, I re-intall, plug-unplug before or after (re)installation, verify USB status via the device manager (it says ok, except for the "not recognized device" http://forums.creative.com/i/smilies...miley-wink.gif and via the BIOS (already switch on).
Can you help me please?Thank you for your advice !

Mmmmmmmmhmmmmmmmm? After many many attempt of pluggin/unpluggin, I achieve to detect and keep my webcam detected. It is working a little bit...... I mean everything is ok, but when I attempt to reach the "source" option of Creative Webcam Control, this programm freezes and the webcam LED becomes switched on for an unlimited period. The only way escape it is to plug/unplug again several time. I HAVE AN ANSWERABLE QUESTION NOW?: :smileyvery-happy:--How can I reset my "source" and other options of Creative Webcam Control in order to get the original automatic producer settings ? --Moreover, I fear the register still definitely keep a trace of my old/bugging settings (that's why I get problems even though I re-install). How can I erase Creative Webcam 5 settings and Creative Webcam Control settings in the register, before properly re-installing my new drivers+programs ? Ps : should I keep the old driver, or take the xp whql driver ? (the new driver might be a source of problem ?)

  • USB Device Not Recognized on Windows 7 - USB mouse

I have a 4 week old Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 Home premium that has developed an error: USB errors while trying to install a Microsoft USB mouse on this Laptop.   Interestingly, my Microsoft USB Mouse installed perfectly first time and worked for about 2 weeks, and then failed.   In looking at the system restore points, it tells me that there have been two driver updates to the USB environment since the unit was shipped from Dell.   I wonder if an automatic update from Microsoft has somehow inadvertently updated or replaced a Dell factory driver.
Two nights ago I spent 45 minutes with Dell tech support doing remote control bug fixing on this laptop.  They werent able to fix it (in the time allowed).  They downloaded at least one of their newest drivers onto this machine and rebooted it - and they seemed pretty savvy - but still not working.  So I went ahead a did a system restore to a point about 10 days back because I could see that a USB driver would be affected (as shown in the system restore menus), and I would like to compliment Microsoft on this very cool functionality!
At this point, I've unplugged the USB mouse , used the Device Manager to delete the 'unknown device', and done a system restore back to what I suspected was a working point.   But still getting a 'Device not recognized' warning every few minutes, and still don't have a working mouse.  I don't want to have to do system restores back to pprevious dates, although I suspect this is one solution.

    Hello,
I just wanted to let u know, I had this same issue for about 2 weeks. Basically what happened was a bad install of my AMD Chipset drivers. When I attempted to upgrade, the install didn't go all the way through.
I then restarted my system, and BAM! No Mouse or Keyboard functionality thru USB.
Even when I went into SAFE MODE the Mouse and Keyboard were not functional. The only time they worked was when the computer first attempted to start, BEFORE windows loaded.
So, this means that your issue is a software problem.
I thought it was some other software that I installed, and ran a restore session, but that wasn't the issue. Still no functionality.
I even tried removing my CMOS battery, to reset it, since some people said that had solved their problems...Still nothing.
I then read other forums around the web using my Android phone to try and find a solution, only those solutions were no help.
I was also advised to run: MSCONFIG and Hide all  Windows programs and then stop every other driver, source from loading (of course if my mouse and kb worked, I would have tried that).
I had even read that because I was using USB, that I should try using a PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard connection.
It took me 2 weeks to get the correct PS2 adapter that worked, which would essentially allow me access to my system again...
I  Purchased a USB A Female to PS2 (MDIN6) Male Adapter (for Mouse) from http://www.SFCable.com
This my friends, was a lifesaver. I only have one PS2 port on my system, so I used my mouse to try  every option I had previously read about. Of course you cannot type because the keyboard doesn't work, so you need to know the location of the folder where
the programs you are trying to run are.
So, a little after I got back into my system, and I closed down all programs, the warning screen came up that ALL of my USB Ports failed and could not be updated. I even  Uninstalled every last USB port from the System Properties and restarted, and still
    that didn't work.
I had forgotten that during the time when this problem arose, there was a failed install of my AMD chipset drivers, so luckily I had not deleted the source file and I tried to reinstall, and VIOLA! I'm back up and running and my USB ports are restored
    and everything is working!
I hope this solution is able to help other people out there.
    Thanks,
    JE - [email protected]

  • "USB device not recognized" when ipod plugged in???

    (ipod mini 4gb)
When I plug my ipod into my laptop I get the message: "USB device not recognized." It says the device has malfunctioned!!! If I click on this error message it says my ipod is an unknown device and no drivers are installed for it???
It was working fine until a few days ago. If i reset it I can charge it up but that's all, it still does not appear in itunes or on my computer.
I've tried eveything on the help website but nothing works! Can anyone help?!
    patriot 3050   Windows XP

ok my question is do you have a mac or windows based laptop
here is why and what happened to my ipod mini
my ipod mini was connected to my macintosh charging while i was using my imac and it came up with a system update 10.4.3 i installed it and finished installing it and afterwards my apple wouldn't recongnize my ipod mini or even display it one the screen i found out by myself that when the apple update got to the end of the update it installed new hard drive drivers but also installed the drivers on the ipod mini which locked out the mini's internal hard drive and my mini then stop responding it would play music and charge but wouldn't connect to the computer
so what i did to fix it was this
i went into utilites in mac os x tiger or any version of os x has this and selected disk utility you will notice that the ipod will appesr in disk utility but not on the desktop this is due to a recent system update driver that isn't compatible with the internal drive on the ipod mini so in disk utility just select format the drive in a mac os partition standard works the best it will then format the ipod and the ipod will apear in the desktop again but not as a ipod let me explain when you format the ipod using the disk utility it formats and even erases the firmware of of the hard drive on the mini so when you are done formating the ipod run the ipod updater to reinstall the ipod's operating system and presto your ipod will now work again
warning: i don't know how to fix this on a ipod in windows so if this is a windows based laptop you need to find someone witha macintosh to do this with sorry

  • 2G Nano-USB Device Not Recognized message

2G Nano has been sitting for months. Decided to use it as a backup. When connected to computer (tried on 4 different computers running iTunes) I get a "USB Device Not Recognized" message. It shows up in "Device Manager" as an "Unknown USB Device" not an "iPod". Have performed the required 5 Rs and it still will not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This did not work for me. I have a laptop that was running Windows XP, and it had no problems recognizing the iPod. I was having problems with XP, and rather then reinstall XP, I did a clean install of Vista. I did a settings transfer, so the new install of iTunes came already configured--I mention this since I don't know if it was a factor.
When I plugged in the iPod, I got the USB Device Not Recognized. The usbstor.inf file did not fix the problem. However, the solution at http://www.winvistabeta.com/groups/275128/ipod-usb-device-not-recognized/message .aspx did fix the problem. Do this:
    Reset the iPod:
    1. Unplug the iPod.
    2. Turn the hold switch to HOLD and then back to off.
    3. Hold the Center and Menu buttons for 6 seconds until you get the Apple logo when you release them.
    4. Plug in the iPod. It should now be recognized.
This worked fine for me the first time. Thanks! Jack

  • "USB Device Not Recognized" error when I connect iPod to my PC

I have a brand new 5th gen (I think) iPod.
I have been able to connect it successfully to my home laptop, download music to it and play it so I know the iPod works per se and the cable is ok too.
Now at work (where tons of my music is) when I connect it to my PC here and I get a "USB Device Not Recognized" error pops up from my taskbar. When I click on the message it pops up a "USB Device Not Recognized" window which displays a list of USB ports, and shows "Unknown Device" for the one where the iPod is connected.
I think its probably USB1.something as opposed to USB2.0 but from what I understand that shouldn't matter.
    Can anyone suggest anything ?
I've tried the 5R's as far as I can, and I read through this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=500559&tstart=15
but there didn't seem to be anything conclusive.
    Thanks for any help,
    Jill

First make sure the latest iTUnes is installed on this work PC, IF your allowed to install things on it, the latest iTunes version is 6.0.4.2 and can be downloaded from the apple site (Hit iPod+iTunes tab at the very top of this web page)
Another thing is what version of windows is the work PC? Is it windows XP Windows 2000 Or windows Me 98? iTunes will only run on XP and 2000

  • USB device not recognized win7 iPod Touch 1g

My computer will not recognize my 1st Gen Ipod Touch 8gb when I plug it into my USB port. I get a message USB Device Not Recognized. I've tried everything from resetting the iPod, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and all other Apple related programs, to fiddling with the settings in my Device Manager. It will only recognize it as an Unknown Device, not even an Apple device.
What should I do? I just got this thing through a trade, it's clean, wifi works fine, in great condition. I just don't know what to do! It won't show up in iTunes at all, won't show up as a mass storage device, nothing. I am running Windows 7. I've also tried using different cords, different usb ports, and another computer. None of that made a difference.

  • Windows won't recognize my iPod - USB device not recognized

This is really frustrating. So I got a 4gb iPod nano on Saturday, took it home, set it up and everything was going just fine, no worry's. About 4 hours later I went to adjust my songs and it would not come up in iTunes. A little pop-up box said that the "USB device not recognized - one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it." After owning my iPod for less than an afternoon, I now have an ipod that I can do nothing to including change the music, charge it, etc. It works normally otherwise, it just won't connect to my computer. I then plugged in my older 256mb usb stick, and the same message, it too does not get recognized by windows. So I then tried a brand new 1gb usb stick that I had and the same result, not recognized by windows. I updated my itunes to the latest one after purchasing my ipod (version 7.4.3.1) and have looked up everything that I can and tried everything I saw to try, but nothing, absolutely nothing, worked. However my usb mouse, usb joystick, and usb printer all still work, but my moniter that has four usb outlets on it causes the same message, if I plug in the cable that connects one usb on my computer to the four on my moniter, windows can not recognize it. When I look in my device manager at the "unknown device" under the usb controller list it says that there is not driver for it, however I know that the drivers are either on my computer or built into windows. Any help? Anybody have an idea about what to do? Is it something in my windows registry has changed because of the new itunes, etc.?

Now that I've had some sleep, I realise I didn't really provide information that may lead to some specific help. Here goes - when I first plugged in the ipod nano (8gb), It displayed the screen it was supposed to - I could see the lightning bolt through the battery icon and knew it was charging. The icon for the ipod also appeared in the left-hand listing in itunes (in the section that existed under Library, before the sections Store and Playlists). This section now does not appear (I can't remember the title of this section, but it might have been 'devices'). In fact, I'm pretty sure this problem started when I clicked on this icon - nothing happened and it disappeared - so did the display on the ipod, which is not just the apple. This means itunes has only Library, Store and Playlist in the left-hand colunm. While I accept that computers do not work on normal logic, this seems to me to indicate that the drivers are fine, the system is fine, my laptop is fine - its the ipod or the usb cord. This morning as I tried again, this time my laptop gave me the option to 'click on the balloon to solve the problem' - let me quote: "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognise it, replace the device". Come on folks - one of you will surely know how to fix this (short of me taking the ipod back to the store to get my money back).

  • "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices has malfunctioned..."

I'm running Windows XP with external hard drive. When hard drive is connected, iPod will not sync and I get message stating "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices has malfunctioned..."
When disconnect the external drive, he iPod appears in My Computer. However, iTunes is on external drive; therefore music is not syncing onto iPod. I've attempted the 5 R's as well as searching for iPod in Device Mananger. When iPod is conncected, it is listed in Devce Manage as "Unknown Device."
I've changed drive letters on boh iPod and external drive and get the same message. Please help.

QRe: Zen MX Causes "USB Hardware has Malfunctioned" Msg from Windows XpyUhh, Yes.
I used to same cable to attach my Motorola Razr and the computer correctly found it and identified it as such.
I also tried another cable (brand new) same thing.
I went to recovery mode and did a "CLEAN UP" but no dice.
I also got my I.S. tech guy to look into it and on the USB page it say "UNKNOWN DEVICE"? when he tried to delete it it did not help, it just reappears as "UDVC"? Also in looking into it it seems to have no drivers.
He came to this site and tried to do somethinm through here but it did'nt work.
Now in listening to it last night it began to 'skip' or what I call 'HICCUP" terribly. Where a song starts and stops, during the middle of it. ? It's always done it a little but it has been getting more and more common and now? It's WAY worse about it.
It has never been dropped, or nishandled in any way. I bought the clear hard case to protect it. And only has about 300 songs on it. Never used for anything else. No vids no pics, nothing.

  • USB Device Not Recognized - USB device attached has malfunctioned & Windows does not recognize it

I have an HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook running Windows 7 Home Premium and the USB ports worked fine for an HP deskjet printer and an older Casio digital camera. Then one day, the laptop decided not to recognize the Casio digital camera and gave the error message "USB Device Not Recognized" and also indicated that the device attached to the computer has malfunctioned. This prompted me to buy a new Canon digital camera. Well, a new camera did not fix the problem. Now, anything connected to either of the 2 USB ports will not be recognized by my laptop. Help!  I'm at a loss to figure this out.  I've tried the suggested Microsoft help below:
Suggestion 1: For the issue with USB devices, uninstall and re-install all the USB controllers. This lets the controllers recover the USB port from its unresponsive condition.
The USB controllers represent the USB ports in Device Manager.
    a. Click Start, type device manager in the Start search box and hit Enter.
    b. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Note: You might have to scroll down the list to find this item.
    c. Right-click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click Uninstall to remove it.
    d. Repeat the above step for each USB controller that is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    e. Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.
    f. Check the USB device to see whether it is working.
This did not correct the problem.  Then from device manager, I tried updating drivers on all the USB controllers and root hubs. While some may have received downloaded software updates, it still did not correct the USB device not recognized problem after restarting the computer.  I'm hoping someone knows of the fix to this situation and can pass it along to me. Thanks for reading and posting any help.
    This question was solved.

    Hey 655micha,
I'm sorry you're having an issue with a USB device. Do you get an error window that pops up? If so what does it say? Have you checked Device Manager? Is is just one device that isn't working? Has it ever worked before? Is it just one USB port in particular that isn't recognizing devices?
What model do you have? Here are the steps to find your product number. FN + ESC is the easiest way to find that information.

  • Getting 'USB device not recognized' message when I never did before.

    Hi there
I am constantly getting a USB device not recognized when I plug in my nano. I never got this before and as a result all it does is charge. It is not showing up in iTunes anymore so I cannot remove or dowload new songs on to my nano anymore. I have tried to go into control panel and the USB Hub device manager to deselect the power outage option but that did nothing. Please help! I seem to encounter trouble with any accessories Apple sell, whether they be earphones or USB cables.
    Thanks

Does anyone know how to fix this?

try to update the driver in your device manager.. right click on palm handheld then update driver...
    if not successful..
    try this..
Force Un-installation of the Device Driver.
    Close all running programs.
    Open the Run Application.
    Click Start.
    Click Run.
Type “cmd” (without the quotes) then click OK. The Command Window will open on the default directory C:\Documents and Settings\<windows login>\.

Type  “start devmgmt.msc” (without the quotes) then press enter. The Device Manager should open.
    On the Device Manager
Click View from the menu bar.
    Click Show Hidden Devices.
Look for categories, Palm OS Handheld, Other Devices and Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
Expand Palm OS Handheld (if available) and uninstall all PalmHandheld.
    Right+Click on the PalmHandheld.
    Click Uninstall.
Repeat Steps A and B until all PalmHandheld are Uninstalled.

    Restart the Computer.
After Restart, wait for all the components to be loaded on the System Tray especially the Hotsync Manager.
    Perform Hotsync.
