Hp g60 notebook become excruciatingly slow. 10 mins to start up

Hello:
I have a HP g60 Notebook pc
Product#VU191UA#abc
Out of the blue, it just became uber slow. Takes 10-20 mins to start up. wont allow me to de fragment or check disc. It freezes. I tried to back up HD after 8 hours it fails. I have a toshiba Hd and 4 gigs of Ram.
Looks like the HD is gone kaput. But not sure, Any ideas?

Run the Hard drive diagnostics and check if it passes... Here are the link with the steps to perform System Diagnostics on the hard drive:

Perform Hard Drive Tests
If it gives any errors then most likely the hard drive has gone bad and needs a replacement. If test passed then we can determine that it is due to some software problem..
Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums, but you can use Google to find information on how to install an older version of iOS on any device.

What notebook do you have exactly?
I have to say that a fact that a Vista needs 10sec to open an folder doesnt mean that your notebook runs slowly.
There are many reasons why Vista needs a little bit longer to open a folder.
First of all you have to know that Vista needs a lot of hardware resources; more than a Win XP or other Windows operating system. Furthermore the high amount of background processes can slow down the Vista.
Last but not lease if an Antivirus scanner is installed on the notebook then this could slow down the performance too because every file would be checked by Antivirus before it would be opened.
What you could do is to start the msconfig and you could check in the Startup tab if there are some processes and applications which are not important for you.
Then you could disable it.

Couple of steps. One is general housekeeping and the other is performance related.
If you have an extremely large number of messages in your inbox(es) or sent categories, consider the ones that remain relevant and purge those that are not. Do this regularly. Choose the Mailbox > Erase Deleted Items > In All Accounts...
Afterwards, you can start by rebuilding your Mailbox indexes within your individual mail accounts. For each Account in the left panel of Mail under Inbox, select it, and then from Mailbox menu, choose Rebuild (bottom of menu). When you are done, exit and restart Mail.

Hi:
On the CTO models HP does not provide specs.
To make matters worse, your model does not have a service manual linked to it where you could look up the memory upgrade info.
My suggestion would be for you to run the free Crucial memory scan tool, which will report how much and what kind of memory your notebook can use.

Now, I did find this G60 service manual, and you can look at the specs in chapter 1 and see if you have any hardware such as the processor, that matches what is listed here.
If you have a processor that is listed in the manual, then the memory info listed in the manual should also apply to your model.

Firefox has becomes unresponsive and slow after I tried to install addons (not installed)?

I recently format my computer and reinstall the windows 7, since this was the only solution that I know to fix the problem with Firefox (I previously had this problem too). I download the latest version of firefox 33.0.2 and install it . This version was super fast. But becomes unresponsive and slow, when I tried to install the add-ons. I visited the official website of firefox and search for the addons, when I tried to install some addons, Firefox crashed. From then on, it has becomes quite slow and can't restore previous sessions. Even to type my email address, It takes more than 5 minutes and becomes unresponsive frequently (after I typed each letter).
I want to know whether this is due to some viruses, or this version of firefox is not "stable"

My Slow Mac Mini - will someone once and for all give me an answer!!

I got a 1.25 ghz Mac Mini with 512 RAM running 10.4.4 . This thing has been so slow since I pulled it out of the box. I always get the colorwheel when doing just about anything. No, I don't have a bunch of apps open, just Safari and Mail. I tried closing Dashboard, but that did not help. There is also this lag, when I mouse over my dock, it does not immediatly respond. This is no fun. Does someone have an educated answer for this problem?

If you restart your mini, does it act this slow from the start? Or is it when you use it for a period of time?
Also, open Finder, and click on the Applications section. Look for a program called Activity Monitor (it may be in a folder called Utilities). When that opens, there is a section called Memory (may be Memory Usage). Click on this and sort by Memory on the list. This will show programs that are using significant amounts of memory. My hunch is that a program is eating up all available memory and slowing your mini down. The most likely culprit is Safari. To quit Safari, you have to actual select from the menu, the Quit option. Just clicking on the X will not close Safari.
Post back with the answers to my first two questions. Also, post back with what you find in the Activity Monitor program. There are lots of people here that are more knowledgeable than me, so hang in there, we'll find the answer.

New imac mini cannot start as pick up profile of my old macpro notebook with forgotten password

just puchased a imac mini and started at home where I have a wireless environment with time capsule and a macbook pro notebook. At the start the minimac recognised the time machine and asked it if wanted to take the same profile of the notebook. I said yes and before launching the operating system asked the administartor password of the notebook. Despite the hint used I realised cannot remember the password. I reset the password in my laptop using the operating disk of my laptop (which worked fine). However the mac mini still is askig for the old password. is there a way to go around this as i am running out of options.
can i restart the miniac using a different profile altogher?

You are describing features of Muti-User simultaneous login. The cube spins (away from the currently logged-in User) to give you a fresh login screen. The old User is suspended, and you can log in.

Backing up catalog from inside of lightroom extremely slow (30 min)

I have a catalog that is just under 5gb, if I navigate to the folder where it is stored and copy paste it onto my backup drive it copies in under 2 min. However, if I chose to backup my catalog on exit from inside lightroom it takes over 30 minutes (not counting testing etc). Obviously I can backup my catalog manually, but it would be nice if the built in backup feature worked like it's supposed to.
I'm running win 7 64
lightroom 64 same probelm in 4.3 and 4.4
the catalog and lightroom are stored on a ssd drive
backing up to a NAS ( my typical transfer speeds are 60-80 MB/s)

I tried to the local ssd with only a small improvement. Like I said, if I navigate to the catalog manually and copy and paste it to the NAS it takes under 2 minutes... (80+ MB/s), but done through lightroom it just crawls. Lightroom either has a bug, or it's doing something much more than just copying the catalog to the selected directory. I've tried it with and with out check and optimize.

A 5 GB Lr catalog is a hefty catalog. But 30 min seems a bit long even for that. I suspect that the NAS drive or its connection speed are slowing things down.Try this: Create a catalog backup from within Lr to an internal drive to check whether that will speed up the process.

Lumia 635 getting slow and uploading videos starte...

I have had my Lumia 635 phone for about 2 weeks now and I have had nothing but problem's out of it, It started running slow and video's started cutting in and out on all of them, I have done a factor reset 3 times now nothing is working.So I would say do alot of research on the phones you buy Lumia 635 you have to pay for alot of things.

Are you encountering the issue with recorded videos or when streaming videos? You may try closing apps running in the background. Press & hold the back key and then tap the X to close the apps that are not needed. Also, check and increase the available memory of your phone. See this link. We'll wait for your response.

IPhoto and photos app becoming non responsive/ slow and crashing...

Ok so I need some help!
I've been importing my photos onto my iPad with a camera connection kit. Everything has been fine for a while, I've been able to edit , do effects, export, navigate between windows and sections within the app.
Now for so,e reason the app has become INCREDIBLEY slow and at some times unresponsive. Every time you go to touch or edit a photo after about two minutes of using the app, it freezes and I won't be able to do anything. Then all of a sudden it will work then it will stop and become unresponsive again.
Also my camera connection kit on the import using the photos application has become slow as well. The app used to fly through the import of 100+ photos giving green ticks within a second at a time.
Now it's around 20 to 30 seconds per photo to import it onto the iPad.
I have 5gb left on the iPad on a 64gb iPad.
I've tried a hard restart of the whole iPad as well. I've also tried closing the app and re opening it from scratch.
In my entire photos library I have 705 photos - average size of photos are around 3.3mb each
The iPhoto app it's self is now running at 2.2 gb in total
I really don't want to delete iPhoto app and reinstall as I'll loose all my edits that I've done. However in saying that it seems to be the photo app that's the problem as well due to the connection kit speed issue . All other apps work fine and the rest of the iPad works as usual . So it's just photo and iphoto that is having problems.
Has anyone got any idea on how to fix this???? I'm away on a trip and am wanting to use my iPad to offload and edit photos ASAP :(

Disk Utility does not work on user files. Only on system and applications. Give the following a try:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

Why have iCal becom so extremly slow on iPad?

I don't know if this is an iCal, iPad or MobileMe issue.
I loved iCal on iPad and it has been my preferred place to edit my calendars. But lately it has become so slow it is almost unusable. When I create a new calendar appointment it takes several minutes before it displays on the screen. Meanwhile the spinning wheel is showing. Yes, I am on high speed WiFi (50 Mbit/s).
I do not have that problem when adding items from my workstation, laptop or iPhone.
Is there anyone out there having the same experiences and how to solve it?

The answer was simple. Just set the sync to 3 or 6 months in the Preferences.

My MacBook has become very very slow

My MacBook has become very slow for the last 2 weeks and often gets hangs with mail/address book applications. I have tried disc cleaning and permission repair but no change. Anybody has solution?

That confirms the hard disk requires replacement. There is nothing you can do about it until you return to school.
If you want to attempt a repair using your sister's Mac you need a FireWire cable with the proper connectors on each end. Connect the two computers, restart yours in Target Disk Mode by holding the T key as you start it, and run Disk Utility on your sister's Mac. The option to repair your hard disk will appear.
I don't believe the error you describe will be repairable.
If you have any information on the computer that you do not want to lose forever, copy those files from your computer to your sister's Mac. Since the disk is already damaged some or all of your data may already be lost.

Notebook 80GA is very slow

I brought my notebook 2 weeks ago and I am deceptioned with its performance. It is very slow in all operation. Browses, Office etc. What can I do to solve this problem?

Welcome to the Forums.
Just to verify, do you have the IdeaPad G40-70 / 80GA shown in this page? If yes, which one is yours?
As for the slow performance, can you try the following:
1. Ensure that the power option is set to High Performance.
2. Open Task Manager and check if there's are processes that's eating up resources (CPU, HDD, Memory, etc.) and try ending these task and observe.
3. Boot the machine in Safe Mode with Networking and check if the performance is still slow. If the system is looks very responsive, perform a clean boot to temporarily disable non-microsoft services/apps that might be eating up the system resources and observe in normal mode.
