HP G6000 re booting problem and restore wont complete
Hi
I have a HP G6000 which is my daughters machine. Been working ok but she tells me last night that its broken and keeps restarting. Tried hard reset etc but same thing.
So i decided to back up data by booting to safe mode and copying her stuff to external hard drive. Then proceeded to do a factory restore from the reapir partition. This loads and the machine sat their al night whilst it did this without doing any rebooting or problames etc. Anyway when i hit the finish tab it reboots trys to load windows and then hit me with a error message (presumably whilst it tries to finish the install) about a parse error. I have had a number of different error messages about failed installation etc but so far been unable to repair the installation.
I have run both the bios memory checks and HDD checks and the aslo the HP versions on the restore partition. Both say passed all tests.
Can anyone provide some guidance on what is going wrong?
Thanks
Kevin
A video driver isn't going to cause F11 not to work or to not finish the recovery. If the F11 is not working to the point of getting back to the original desktop in a factory state, then it is a deeper issue.
Look at it this way. An F11 recovery restores the C: image from the recovery image (D drive). The recovery image contains the exact same software the unit came with out of the box. If it was a software issue, such as the driver, the exact same issue would have been present from day one. I take it the system worked fine out of the box when it was first purchased.
I have seen this too many times and there are two things that will cause the parse error: hardware or corrupted partition (since this is where the F11 recovery gets the software from). Since you tried using the F11 and this is failing consistently and the two major hardware components that cause recovery issues has passed (memory and hard drive), I do not believe it is a driver issue at this point. My professional opinion and experience with these issues tells me that the recovery disks should take care of this issue. This is especially true if the error is occurring before you can get through the Windows setup (sounds like it is not getting to that point).
However, I will wait to see the result of your work IT person as I could be wrong.
To verify, the recovery was started with nothing but the battery and the charger cord? Also, no keys were pressed once the recovery started until prompted?
Let me know the result.

Udev kernel 2.6 boot problems and questions
Hello there.. During these days I'm trying to install a new linux kernel. I have the insane Idea of installing an old kernel. I compiled the "new" old kernel and I can't manege to get it to work efficently..
I keep receiving a message this message during the boot.
Failed to start udev Kernel Device Manager
Although I followed the requirements for undev related to the kernel 2.6
Why am I trying to install and older kernel? Well, the my reason is simple: my laptop keyboard that it's so annoying.. Every once and then it's not recognized at boot and it force me to reboot the system even for 4 or 5 times consequintely..
With the kernel 2.6 I never had such problems and so I thought It was worth trying..
Another interesting question that keep coming to my mind is related to the kernel that it's been update after pacman -Syu.
I notice that in /usr/src there is a a new directory eithe the new kernel called linux-3.9.5-1-ARCH, well if I try to build the kernel inside thi directory I get a message
linux-3.9.5-1-ARCH]# make
scripts/Makefile.build:44: /usr/src/linux-3.9.5-1-ARCH/arch/x86/syscalls/Makefile: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/src/linux-3.9.5-1-ARCH/arch/x86/syscalls/Makefile'. Stop.
make: *** [archheaders] Error 2
The linux-headers are seems to be correctly installed to me...
Any Idea or explanation or suggestion would be very appreciated.
Thank youArch userspace is too new to survive with an older kernel. This isn't going to end well for you.
If you want your keyboard to function properly, I suggest you file bugs against the relevant parties and work with them to get actually get it fixed rather than go down this bizzare rabbit hole.
edit: even our LTS kernel (3.0.x) is too old for Arch userspace.

High There
There seems to be some Booting-Problems with my 1.8 Ghz Power Mac G5. Sometimes he started properly an other times i only listened to the cooler an no starting tone. I installed a new HD already. If i want to go in the sleep-mode it won't come back. There were also some issues in the starting process when he stops booting properly. As i said the HD is new and works properly when i finally getting started but even then he managed to crash down from time to time.........CheersHallo phleg, und ein herzliches Willkommen im Forum!
Boot off your original G5 Install Disk while holding down Option/alt key to select AHT, then run the extended Apple Hardware Test.
Get Temperature Monitor - 4.51 to see if it's heat related...

TOSHIBA Canvio Connect (EZ) Boot up and Restore Problems
I just recently purchased a TOSHIBA Canvio Connect (EZ) portable hard drive to back up my HP Pavilion. The backup went well. Following the Canvio instructions I created a boot drive on a USB Flash drive. Then I booted up the PC using the Flash drive and pressed the F12 Key as per instructions. I tried several times booting using the drive and pressing F12 but most of the time the computer just comes up normally and twice I got a screen that read UEFI Boot Services with the option to select UBFI IPV4 Net Card or to select UBFI IPV6 Net Card. The screen shown in the instructions said I would have option to select USB to bring Up EZ.
HP Pavilion. ... pressed the F12 Key as per instructions
You are dealing with the computer's BIOS/UEFI now. That has nothing to do with the external drive.
The instructions probably assume a Toshiba computer. You'll need to consult the HP people.
HP Support Forums
Ask them how to set up the UEFI in your machine to boot from a USB flash drive.

MSI P7N SLI-FI LGA 775 nForce 750i booting problem and error message
Got this board a week ago and I'm having some issues with booting-sometimes. I power it on and it just hangs there doesn't do noting. I hit the restart button and it powers on, but gives me a red letter error message that "previous overclocking has failed and settings were restored to default". But I never overclocked it. The settings were at default in the first place. After it boots and goes into Windows I have no problem at all, works great. But as soon as I reboot it i hangs again until I restart it or power it off. I tried different power options in the bios, but I get the same problem. I checked the MSI web site for BIOS update but there isn't any. So if somebody knows a solution to this problem let me know. Thanks.
I know the 7600GS doesn't recommend a PSU with a lot of power(15 - 17 A), but you're running two of them in SLI. Your PSU only has 18A on the +12V rail. This could very well be your issue. Below are some good single +12V rail PSUs, Corsairs and PC Power & Cooling. You can also look for Silverstone single rail PSUs, but they tend to be pricier. If you can't get anything other than split-rail, post back and we'll try to make some recommendations.

Nokia e7 wont boot up, and it wont hard reset!
Hi there, i have a problem with my Nokia E7, i wanted to download nokia belle for my phone via the PC, suddenly it said on the PC that phone is disconected, it said that i have to hold switch button for 10 seconds and reconect it to the PC again, it didn't work. So now i cant even boot it up or hard reset when i try to boot, it wont, i hold the switch button for 10 secs and it does the tripple effect vibration, and thats all it does, Please Help!
Same thing is happening with my Nokia E7. It just died yesterday afternoon and it seems like it's not even charging - the light blinks for about a minute or two, and then it just stops (so I am assuming it is not charging?). I have tried the 8-second hard reset that I have read somewhere around this forum. I have tried charging it using the Nokia charger it came with, and also the USB adaptor. It's showing the same symptoms.
The screen also on my E7-00 also froze a lot, (since I bought it last year). All the problems that I have read around here, seems to be systemic of this particular Nokia brand/model. I have been a Nokia phone user for the past 15 years or so. My last one, An N95 served me very well (heavy business use for FOUR YEARS). I upgraded to this E7-00 and I cannot believe the problems I've been having with it, considering it to be as expensive as it was/is, and that it's supposed to be a BUSINESS / SMART Phone.
The phone is nicely designed but at this point, I just need it to work! Is there any other tip anyone can give me aside from pressing the power button for 8 seconds? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! -

Z68A-GD65(G3) boot problems and random crashes
Hi all,
Built a new system last week:
i5-2500k
MSI Z68A-GD65(G3)
MSI 6950 2Gb TFIII
8Gb Corsair Vengence DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel
Corsair HX650W PSU
Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB SSD
Posted fine on the first power-up but then hung at 'Starting Windows' just as the logo starts to fly-in. After a lot head scratching, removal of GFX, an HD with an image of W7 on it already (exact same issue), RAM swops etc I discovered that the top pair of USB ports appear to be suspect. If any device is plugged into either of them then the system will hang at that point. If I use the lower (non-USB 3.0) it boots just fine.
I'm also experiencing an issue in games (BF3 and DCS A-10 so far) whereby I have a random freeze. The sound will go nuts and the lights on all USB attached devices go off (which make me suspect the 2 problems are related)
Anybody able to offer any advice? Do support monitor these forums (newbie ).Quote

Avoid unnecessarily resetting the SMC or PMU for troubleshooting purposes
Note: There is NO magic time required to clear the PMU. A firm, complete push is all that is required.
The PMU reset button is a momentary contact switch because the reset only requires momentary contact.
Another myth is that more than 2 chimes during a PRAM reset resets better.
A reset is a reset.
If you need more than is done in a PRAM reset after 2 chimes, use the NVRAM reset in Open Firmware.

what does "DOS" mean ?? " boot in to DOS ", as you used it ??
Disk Operating System
That would be "DOS like" as in like the screen that you use in booting a Windows machine.
It's the black with white text screen that you get when you boot to Open Firmware (CMD+OPT+O+F)

I'm not 100% certain on this, but I believe BIOS version needs to be 1.E (maybe 1.D) to properly support that RAM you have. You might check on the G.Skill forum about that. It might also be worth checking the CPU socket for any bent or damaged pins with a strong light & magnifier. If the other mainboard works perfectly with the exact same components, & the BIOS version is the exact same, that can only mean there is a problem in the CPU socket or the mainboard is in some other way defective.
my ram is 1.50v which supported by my board. the board that im using now and the board the have a problem is the same. But im not sure about the bios, i'll cjheck it tomorrow to make if they have the same version.
everything is exact set up. didnt change anything, the mobo that i was using might be defective. at least i will try to update to check if it will fix the problem, -
I'm not that advanced with motherboard technologies, so I'll ask my question in Layman terms. I have a HP Pavilion 761n that comes equip with a MSI board, AMD Athlon, Win XP and 512 DDR SDRAM memory. My first signs of problems began when under normal computer usage the screen would go black then come back on and the system would then be frozen and need to be restarted. This would happen after about an hours worth of on time. The time then went down to 30mins then 15mins and sometimes even at the "welcome to xp" screen it spontaneously restarts itself. I thought it might be a video card problem, but I have tried installing an invidia agp with no luck. Any suggestions on what the problem might be or where I can start to diagnose the problem? Thanks.
Where and how could I check the power supply? Where is the CPU heatsink/fan? Would I need a special device, such as the one to be found @ CompUSA? I did have an enormous amount of dust in the computer, I tried to clean it the best I could, but I may have missed such places as the ones you listed. Thanks again.

App store and itunes language problem and restoring phone
Hi, I recently purchased an iPhone 3G 8GB off of eBay. The phone is unlocked and jailbroken. I want to remove the jailbreak and have a normal iPhone, but still have the phone unlocked. The phone is a Rogers phone and the carrier I am usign is Fido. I have heard that if I try to restore the phone, it will be bricked, and also that I will not be able to unlock it ever again if I do manage to restore it. What do I do? Because I really want to get the phone back to its normal settings. Secondly, my app store and itunes menus are in french. ( the bottom dark gray area where it says selection, search, update etc.)But the description of the apps and thir names are in English. Same for iTunes. I bought the phone from a man in Quebec. I changed the language to English, and the region to Canada, and have tried rebooting the phone and syncing it with my iTunes. But the app store and iTunes bottom menus are still in French. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

You cannot. If you need to use the phone with Fido, sell it and buy a Fido-locked phone. Since jailbreaking violates Apple's EULA and voids the warranty, the only advice you can obtain here is to sell your phone, or restore it and get service from Rogers.
Secondly, my app store and itunes menus are in french.
A restore will fix this. -
