HP G62 B50SQ CPU Whine [HELP PLEASE]

Hello,
I have one HP G62 B50SQ laptop 2 months old now. Two weeks ago, it didn't powered on anymore so I sent it for warranty. They replaced the motherboard and the AC adapter. Ever since the laptop is emitting one very high pitch sound from the processor area which, as I identified on the Internet, I suppose it is CPU whine. The sound gets really annoying if I connect any USB device to the laptop (mice, or external hdd). Also the sound is present with the same intensity on AC or DC. I confess that it is very disturbing because I work most of the time in a quiet environment and I would like to know how it is possible to fix this. I've read on the Internet about disabling C4 state in BIOS, but the BIOS version that I currently have (F.47 , 2/15/2011) does not have this option. Also, If I send it back does the warranty apply or it is something that I should be supposed to live with? Thank you for your replies.

10.4.7 CPU Whine!!!! Please HeLp.. Newbie!!!!

Hi Guys..
I recently got a MBP (week 23) standard config.. As far as i remember i didnt notice the whirring or buzzing sound (known as CPU whine) until i upgraded to 10.4.7..
Well its pretty faint but i can easily here it when i am in a silent room n the thought that i have it now really makes me hear that n indeed this bugs me.. This is my first ever Apple product n first ever laptop (I am a newbie)..
I talked to a guy on apple support n told him about the issue n he said it might be the inverter buzz n is a hardware issue.. BUT i told him tht it cant be hardware as it goes away whn i turn on the photobooth or i do CPU intensive tasks, so it seems to me that its a software thingy..
So i have two quetions:
1) Is it a hardware issue or not??? If it is then i am gona send it back (ny suggestions on tht too will be appreciated)..
2) Other than the slight whine, ITS PERFECT, totaly NO ISSUES.. Jus wondering tht i turn the photobooth on to make it silent what effect does it make on the battery??? Cant figure out
Any help will be much appreciated as i need to make a decision tht whether i m gona send it back or keep it (plz provide suggestions on tht too if you can..)

Yes, I already talked to one of the Apple staff in Ireland (I lived in Swiss) and they admitted that it IS the hardware related problem. They said the build is not somehow fully compatible with the core program of MAC OSX causing the noise from CPU and, quite a few times, with the power invertor.
You can search my posts here for more information about this issues. What I would recommend you to do is try to get a hold of Apple store, ask them for a replacement (you can even put the noise on phone for them to hear as I did). You have to be quick before your 14 days of return expires. That what I did and now I am waiting for my new one to arrive.

T420s - experiencing CPU whine that is getting worse

Hello there!
I have a Lenovn T420s with an i7-2640M CPU @ 2.80 Ghz, Optimus, and 8gb RAM. I got this laptop as a replacement from Lenovo since they severely damaged my other T420s while trying to repair the bezel.
This laptop is experiencing CPU whine that is getting worse and worse. There was no CPU whine at all whatsoever when I received this replacement in December, but now it shows up whenever I scroll up and down a browser window, click on a link, or do other normal tasks on the computer.
It happens regardless of if I am on battery or using the AC adapter. I've also read the other T410/510 page about the CPU whine and saw that the only fix was to get a new motherboard, CPU, and GPU. I also saw this post: T420s High pitch whine but it doesn't look like it has been updated for a while.
I have a 3 year warranty on this laptop, but I am hesitant to send it in without knowing if a good fix has been found. I already had a terrible experience with sending the laptop in for service, and had an even worse experience when the tech came on-site to work on it.
Anyone else with this problem? Has Lenovo come out with a solution?

I'm experiencing coil whine or "CPU whine" on my T420s. It's completely intolerable.

I suffered through 2.5 years with this problem on my T410. I sent it in once to resolve the problem, but it wasn't fixed. I figured the issue would be resolved in subsequents ThinkPad generations and I'd put up with it until it was time to upgrade.
But the whine on my T420s is much worse. It is impossible for me to use it in a quiet environment. But beyond that, some of the tones and clicking it makes are audible from feet away even in an environment with air conditioners running and people talking. I've tried (and recorded) every important combination of power settings. With all power management turned off in the BIOS and with the CPU limited to its lowest setting, it is ALMOST tolerable (but not quite).
I am willing to do whatever it takes to fix this problem--I do not mind parting with the laptop for a while. I would be happy to send it in for an engineer to look at and fix. I would be happy to take it somewhere. I would be happy to attempt to fix it to my own satisfaction if I am guaranteed it will not void my warranty. If none of those are options, I guess I'll send it in for motherboard replacements until I get a good one. But I'm going to have this fixed. Because this beautifully-engineered machine is impossible for me to use as it is.
As I understand it, coil whine results from faulty or low-quality coils or capacitors on the motherboard that resonate at different power levels. Unless this is from a rare bad batch (which I doubt because of my experience with my T410), this is a result of using bargain-basement coils and capacitors or not adequately testing the units from different suppliers. It's probably the matter of a few dollars or cents in manufacturing the computer. Beyond that, it can often be fixed with a drop of glue.
I put the recording album up to demonstrate that this is an actual problem, and to familiarize those who haven't heard it with the problem. I hope it helps other in diagnosing the coil whine.

Mavericks Upgrade now computer constantly crashing..Help please?

I upgraded my IMac to Mavericks this week and computer constantly crashes since. I can only work in safe mode. I have been in contact with Apple and they have not been able to find the solution. I have seen others post their error log on here & am hoping someone can help me find the solution to resolve this? I have run disk repair & erased & reinstalled completely but nothing seems to be working. The computer sometimes crashes while just typing in the password to access the computer.
ANY HELP PLEASE?

Hi i want to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OS X Mavericks or OS X Yosemite. My software update menu dosnn´t find any updates available. Help please, what can i do to upgrade to OS X Mavericks or newer version?

Hi i want to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OS X Mavericks or OS X Yosemite. My software update menu dosnn´t find any updates available. Help please, what can i do to upgrade to OS X Mavericks or newer version?

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, the computer's also incompatible with Mountain Lion and Mavericks; if desired, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

Help please!!! with AMD 3200+

Just Purchased a brand new xp 3200+ to run on my K7N2 Delta ILSR, I had been running a 2500+, Anyway at this point the system is totally unstable at default (200) mhz fsb, It will not even last one cycle with sisoft sandra's burn in wizard and reboots just logging into the system.
However when I set it up to run bios setup defaults it's solid as a rock. But it's recognizing the processor as an xp 2500+ and running at 1.8 ghz, with the 333 mhz fsb. I originally thought this might be a ram problem, so I took out each stick and tried to run it at 3200+ one at a time, same problems all over again. tried turning off agp fast write, loosening the memory timings, every thing i can think of.
Do i need to re-install windows??? any help at all would be greatly appreciated I would hate to think i just paid all this money and have to run at 1.8 ghz

As I said in the post, I tried Loosening the memory timings, to no avail, Heat is not a problem here, temps are staying in the 40's at default settings, I have a huge leaf blower fan on the processor (tornado) along with the slk 900a bios is 7.8, I am not concerned with Sisoft sandra scores at all, the only reason I ran it is to try to determine the problem by putting first the processor and then the memory, then the video under load, when I say it's unstable I mean it's rebooting when I'm trying to type this message, I tried to include as much info as possible in this post, about the system, including the part about the ram, timings i've loosened them to 11,4,4, and the cas latency to 3,
kudos to the guy who said to bump the voltage, i'm at 1.7 cpu core and it's only restarted once in the last hour so it seems to have stabalized a bit I just think it's ironic, that I went from the 2500+ to this cpu so I wouldn't have to OC to get it above 2g and now tha't what i'm having to do,,,,it has however upped the temps about 5 degrees to 48 idle, and 53 load, how high can i take the core voltage without damaging the cpu???

Hardware Interrupts HELP please

Hello,
My problem is this: when i open my PC everything works perfect, but when i execute a "heavy" programme(like games or a full system scan etc) after a while the CPU reaches 100% and the system is responding really slow(30-45 sec after the mouse click).I have downloaded the processexplorer and clearly the problem is the Hardware Interrupts.
I had the same problem 6 months ago, i formated the HD and everything was normal again.Yesterday the Hardware Interrupts started again.I couldn`t find anything to do(i`ve searched a couple of forums) so i decided to format the disk again hopping that everything was going to fix again(at least for some months) but unfortunately today and after trying to play Command and Conquer Tiberium Wars the system crashed and (based to processexplorer) the hardware interrupts was the problem again.

I also thought that maybe the Video Card or the CPU temperature is increasing and causes the hardware interrupts but the CPU temperature doesn`t go higher than 37-38 degrees Celsius and the SYS temp is 1 or 2 degrees lower. For example right now i am copying some files from a DVD and the Hardware interrupts are using avg. 30% of the CPU and the CPU temp is avg. 32 degrees Celsius and the SYS temp is avg 29 degrees Celsius. The temperatures are taken from the Core Center programme from MSI.If there is any other way to see my CPU`s and system`s temperature please tell me to check it.
As for the Hard Disks I am checking now one of them and there may be a problem.I will do some tests and i will inform you as soon as i can.

Advice: CPU whine

I've noticed over the last couple of months that my beloved MacBook Air (purchased June 2009) has developed an annoying CPU whine, more commonly associated with the early MacBooks and some MacBook Pros.
Just to clarify, the noise resembles a static crackle and originates from the left side of the keyboard, in the vicinity of the 'tab' key. It is easily differentiated from the gentle hum of the system fan, located in a more central location. Varying the fan speed using smcFanControl doesn't appear to affect the whine, which also persists regardless of power source - AC or battery. Just as a troubleshooting step, the noise disappears with QuietMBP set at 80 or 90. Tellingly, the frequency of the noise varies with the slider setting in QuietMBP as well. Unfortunately, this has the detrimental side-effect of increasing system idle temperature by 7-8C. :'(
I can't remember whether my beloved has always exhibited this noise, which then proceeded to get louder and discernable over time, or if it followed the application of an OS update. I first noticed it when running 10.6.1 though, and it is beginning to drive me nuts.
I will have some time soon to get it looked at by an AASP. What I'm wondering then is if anyone has had any experience with this problem, specifically with their MacBook Air, but also in general. Any advice or insight would be muchly appreciated by a poor graduate student being driven ever so slowly to the point of insanity. Oh, let the crackling stop...

My Macbook 13" does it and has since I purchased it in late November. I've brought it to the Mac store, spoken to "geniuses" and scoured the net looking for other people reporting the problem, and hopefully someone with a solution. I have found little of the former and none of the latter. The previous comment seems to make sense to me though. What I can contribute is that it seems to me be related to power consumption. The whine actually starts when my Mac is using little power, such during idle moments or low CPU usage. Crank the CPU up and the noise seems to go so that it is less noticeable or maybe even gone. My theory is that there is a power saving feature that when it gets engaged produces the noise.
I refuse to install the quiet program because I'd sooner return the machine. This is a defect and if it cannot be fixed then I will hold Apple accountable to their warranty. If you ask me, Apple is aware of the problem and is not making it known. Call me a conspiracy nut, but I found this thread through Google. When I went to click through to it, it mysteriously was not available as if it didn't exist. Other threads on the discussions board worked fine. So I loaded the Google cached version. Today the thread is loading. Go figure.
Additionally, I am contemplating trying a SMC and/or PRAM reset but I'm unsure of any possible side effects of trying those out.
Please anyone with additional info post. The whine is incredibly annoying and interrupts my actually being able to get work done, thanks.

Analyzing the "idle CPU whine" issue

I have been waiting for a solution for the "idle CPU whine" issue since I returned my MacBook Pro because of the whine.
First of all, we need to filter out all the posts where a person says that he does not have the whine but has not heard a whining unit. So, we need to focus only on experiences of people who hear the whine or do not hear whine but have heard the whine in another unit.
Secondly, I think that the build week number has no significance on the whine issue. More interesting would be to have people sending here the last part of their serial number, which supposedly is some kind of configuration code, and stating if they have the idle CPU whine or not. Maybe we could get some new information out of that.
Do also state, if you have actually compared a whining and a non-whining unit. If you have not compared the no-whine opinions are useless as they are merely opinions without a reference to a faulty unit.

T510 on its way-- CPU whine question

The CPU whine ( likely inductor noise ) that I keep reading about makes me a bit concerned that I may have made an error in judgment .
Does anyone know what percentage of units have this problem ? Also what are most people doing to help reduce the noise level ?

Yes, there are (my friend ordered a T510- the same one I have) and has no problems with whine.
I think it's a bit "luck of the draw", but if it whines, tell them to send you another one.
You do have a 14-day money-back guarantee on it (I believe this covers free replacement as well), so if you have the whine, tell Lenovo they can ship you another one- if they do it for hard drives (ship you a drive, you ship your old one back AFTER replacement) they should do it for full units too.
I would, however, call their sales desk and make sure of the time period to exchange a laptop (I believe it is 14 days but I could be wrong) and make sure you can keep your laptop while they ship one out to you. Continuously exchanging them should do the trick if they all whine/have any other problem- maybe it will spur them to actually fix the problem after they have to pay lots and lots of shipping charges.
I don't know when the T520/T420 (based on Intel Sandy Bridge processors) is coming out, but I certainly hope it doesn't have the same problems.

CPU WHINE FIX

I'm wondering if anyone out there had their macbook sucessfully repaired for the CPU whine issue. I'm sending in my macbook tomorrow and I'm wondering if when it comes back - it will whine again (sooner or later).
If you got yours fixed - can you tell me please what components were replaced?

Since suddenly yesterday, my computer reboots itself always
during the Windows XP start-up, right before it should
display "Welcome" (Choose user profile) screen. This started
yesterday when I was just surfing the net and listening to
some mp3s, I hadn't installed anything new for a while.
Now I can't get the system running even in safe mode, nor does
System restore help. After the progress bar of Windows XP
Home Edition, the machine just beeps and reboots.
There seems to be no heat problem (specs below), because I
can get to the bios settings by pressing Del, and I can
browse them as long as I want.
I am pretty sure that there are no viruses, my McAfee
updates itself very often. I have a ZoneAlarm firewall to
protect agains hacking.
I've had some reboots earlier, maybe twice a week. This
began after I changed my processor to AMD Athlon XP 3000+.
But now something made my setup completely unstable.
I know I don't have the latest bios drivers, the old ones
did not work (had to use System Restore to get the PC
running after installing them, but I didn't have a chance to
install the latest ones before this catastrophe happened).
Should I do a repair install of WinXP using the install cd?
What should I do, and what might be causing the problem? Any
help is greatly appreciated. Specs are below:

You motherboard does not support an XP3000+ unless you have BIOS 1.8.
Do you have any BIOS updates? I recommend the latest one.

You mean CHIPSET drivers, VIA 4in1? BIOS is not part of OS
The AMD XP3000+ CPU that you have, is it the 333Mhz FSB version or the 400Mhz FSB version?
You board does not support the 400Mhz FSB version.
You RAM, are they the same make and model
Are they both PC2700 or PC3200?
Have you tried 1 stick at a time?

There are no updates to either OS 10.5.8 or Safari 5.0.6.
If you need a later version of Safari you must first upgrade your operating system to a later version of OS X.

You can choose a background for the text from Maps and Backgrounds. Just drag a background to the end of the timeline, adjust to desired duration then drag title above it.
