I'm having problems with the Keyboard on my new G62, specifically, the function keys.
I was playing a game online, and went to hit a keyboard shortcut (Alt+F12) and instead of hiding the windows in game, it turned off my Wireless. I started experimenting, and found this out:
Just pushing the function keys (f1-f12) does what pushing fn+function keys should do. Alt+Function keys does the fn+function keys behavior, and fn+function keys doesn't do anything at all. This is not supposed to work that way. Can this be fixed easily, or do I need to get a new laptop?

You Can disable that functionality by disabling "Action Keys Mode" in the BIOS...

  • G62 Keyboard not working...tried the other forums

    Hey guys,
So I'm super handicapped when it comes to computer fixing...I've always relied on my computer science school friends to fix it and most recently I've been using TeamViewer so my friend in San Diego can help fix my laptop while I'm in  Canada.
I have had this G62 since 2010, so everyone says it's time for a replacement get a new one..but i LOVE the look of this one because it has that nice textured feel to the casing and in a nice metallic finish, that was the only reason I bought it aside from price. It was I either get a Dell from my friend that works there or get the HP that looks great and suited my style, and still had the same capabilities as the Dell for half the price on regular MSRP.
So the keyboard now is not functioning so I can't even log on to my laptop because it's password protected. Well, certain keys work, but specifically the "M" doesn't work and that's the first letter of my password, so when I press M it thinks its Enter. It's been intermittent like this for the past few months and I've been struggling to get my life back on track after going through 2 lay offs in 2 years so financially a new one isn't an option.
It all started with the battery not charging and overheating and causing the black screen of death...so my SD friend told me to take it out and just use the plug in thing...AC adapter I believe it's called ?
that's what I've been doing and ever since then everything's great until this keyboard incident...Now...Sometimes it does work...so when it does work then I do my thing, surf the net, type stuff up etc...and I'm a writer so this is really killing me because I need to make a website and I don't want to have to rely on going to my mom's house to use her HP desktop as I'm doing now.
So as I'm typing when it's functional, sometimes the key "w" will close the window i was currently on. or the "Y" closes the tab i was browsing...it's whacky stuff, like someone's taken over my laptop!! Please help!!! Starving artist in need of your help!
and whoever can fix this problem for me, if you want a Mazda, I'll hook you up

I suspect all you need is a new keyboard panel, they can be had for around $10USD
You should be able use your notebook by plugging in a USB keyboard as a temporary option or more permanent if you so wish, these can be had free by loan from a friend or cheap from market, garage sale & even new they can be very very cheap.
Keyboard replacement on your model is very easy & case of removing screws with keyboard symbol from base & tilting out keyboard panel to remove the keyboard flex cable (10 minute job for someone into this sort of thing)
Full instructions on keyboard removal can be found in the hp manual for your model in the support section of hp website.
You will also find youtube videos of the process which you may find helpful.
Your best option is getting one of your technically minded friends do the job & use a usb keyboard until you have sourced the replacement keyboard panel & arranged for someone help fit it.

  • HP G62 keyboard mouse pad does not work in Windows, works in BIOS

Attaching USB mouse and keyboard works, however Restoring to last known good settings, System Restore, Removing battery and holding power for one minute, etc. None of this works.  When I look in Device Manager I see no issues there.  What is the next step?  I feel like I've tried everything recommended!

try to download and install the updated driver/sw of the touchpad from the support website.

  • G62 -110SS Keyboard Troubleshoot

    Hey there guys,
I purchased a G62 laptop two years ago. It's a great laptop for basic tasks and multimedia.
However, it's been a while, my keyboard stopped working for no reason.
Once I started up windows and all of a sudden the high pitch noise appeared and it actually blocks start up process, so I had to shut it off. Since then, the keyboard responds only while in press F1 or F10 for BIOS information and it does work inside the BIOS information black/blue screen.
Whenever I try to press a button, it gets locked and fills all spaces with random letter, and it is impossible to stop without restarting the laptop. Time to time the high pitch noise appears again while booting.
I would like to replace the keyboard with the new one, but I doubt that it will help.
    Please, hope for your help!
    Thank you

    Hey there,
Thats odd that the keyboard works to get into the BIOS but not anything else. I would first try a hard reset.
    To Perform A Hard Rese:
Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for 5 seconds) Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook. Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook. There will be a switch/button to eject the battery. Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected. Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.
This will remove all power from the computer and then reintroduce it, which most of the time fixes issues like this. Let me know how this works for you and it if does not work post back with any new details.
    Thanks,
    Sean

  • HP G62 Laptop Keyboard.

This Laptop is, without a doubt, the worst product I have ever owned, which is most probably why Telus offered it as one of their loyal customers 'Specials'.
After all, why would any Company, especially one as established as HP, decide to introduce a 2 keystroke function key operation when EVERONE else stil uses the tried and tested 1 keystroke function key operation.
Regardless, the keyboard has a number of what I would assume are special characters which must serve some purpose, but there is no documentation to explain how to use these.
Can anyone help in this regard.
    Many Thanks.

  • G62-340US keyboard doesn't work in Windows, only during boot

My HPG62-340US is running Windows 7 64-bit and I have been having an unusual issue with it.
The keyboard works during the boot process. I can enter BIOS, etc  and use the laptop keyboard - but when Windows loads, the laptop keyboard becomes inoperative. The touch pad works OK, and the lights work on the keyboard, but the keyboard does not respond when you press any key.
I can attach a USB keyboard, which will work OK. When I press the "caps lock" on the USB keyboard, the light comes on the "caps lock" on the laptop keyboard, but the laptop keyboard does not work. It also will not work in safe mode.
I reinstalled Windows, hoping that would correct the problem, but it did not.
    Help!
    Jim

About 9 times out of 10, the keyboard wouldn't work.  The 1 time that it did, I logged in and removed the password.  Updating Dropbox seemed to solve my issue and it had been fine for over a month.  However, over this past weekend I decided to install the new Trackpad++ drivers to enable gestures in Win 8.  After installing PowerPlan and then Trackpad++, everything was working ok.  I decided at this point, I would set a password for the account again.  Once I did that, I was back to having keyboard problems again.  When I finially was able to get in, I removed the password.  Upon a reboot, the keyboard didn't work.  I removed PowerPlan and Trackpad++, still didn't work.  I uninstalled Dropbox...still didn't work.  I disabled all 3rd party startup applications, and it still didn't work.  I got fed up, and last night I wiped out Win 8 and reloaded Win 7.  I'll wait until Apple officially supports it, and even after that, I'll give it some time before upgrading again.
I will note that when I upgraded to Win 8, I did not do a clean install.  I didn't want to go through the hassle of reloading software and setting up the OS again.  Maybe a clean install would have been better.  I was at the point of frustration where I didn't even care to find out and I was just going to go back to Win 7.
Sorry that I'm no help. If you figure anything out, let me know.

  • HP G62-455TX Graphic Card malfunctioning

Problem is the laptop screen flickered and went off several times, displaying error message that AMD crashed. I reinstalled the drivers replacing the older with the older version and then with the latest version given on the website.
But in both cases, the laptop screen totally went blank not even showing the BIOS screen. I connected it to the external monitor to get the output. It shows a bluescreen dead screen and restarts. However, it boots up on the safe mode (but on a external monitor).
However, The laptop screen is off blank throughout.
I tried booting it up with Linux-Fedora 20 XFCE, but it gave error in loading Radeon graphic card, and it did not even boot up.

I see that the display flickered several times and then displayed a black or blank screen.  You connected an external monitor and on startup a blue screen displays and restarts.
You tried booting into Safe mode but nothing displays on the external monitor.  Notebook display remains blank.
You tried booting with LInux but it also gave the graphic card error.
Here is a link to Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot to assist you.
Here is the HP G62 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide.  You will notice there is no recommended replacement graphic cards.
You would need to replace the motherboard or system board.
    I hope this helps.

  • Keyboard delete and caps lock keys not working after update

Shortly after a windows update two keys, delete and caps lock do not work. I have tried the following
    1. system restore..it says it cannot restore as a file is missing. I have used this function before without any problem.
    2. Update key board driver (standard PS/2)..it says latest version is installed.
    3. Uninstall and reinstall.
    4. Reset using the remove batteryt hold down power key option.
The caps lock and delete does not work in Notepad or MS Word.
It seems unlikely that the two keys themselves are damaged as it is unlikely that they would both fail at the same time and the problem after the windows undate is suspicious.
I am using Windows 7 Home premium on a 64 bit HP G62.
    help appreciated as ever
    thanks

Here's another test...since your laptop has USB ports get or borrow a USB keyboard and try it and if all those keys work and test then the results would mean your laptop keyboard has stop functioning as least you narrow done the problem.

  • G62-144DX notebook does not start

    Hi,
Out of nowhere, I had a problem with the wireless operation on a G62-144DX notebook w/ Windows 7 HP 64-bit. I noted the wireless indicator light glowing amber (disconnected) instead of blue (connected). In attempting to download the manual from HP (and get the exact model # to diagnose wireless issue) I removed the Battery while the AC power was connected (to read the model # on label under battery) while the notebook was upside down with display open. Since that point I have been unable to turn on the unit. I tried a reset procedure (found online directing to hold power button down for 15 seconds with battery out and AC disconnected) but to no avail. When I press the power button it is normally supposed to light up and the notebook should boot, but it does not. I have verified (with a voltmeter) the AC power adaptor is working and battery is charged and in good condition.
Can someone suggest what I should try next?
    Thanks!

Maybe you are looking at the wrong side.  My laptop has ram on both sides, one on the underside access by a panel and one on top under the keyboard.

    Hello, everybody
I have got a HP G62 notebook and some of the "special" keyboard buttons are not working ( in other words, nothing changes ).

    - sound on/off button
Anyone had any experience with this ?

While the keyboard binding part might not be that hard, I am stuck with figuring out how and what to get for the VGA and HDMI port switching ( see below ).
