HP G71-441NR Laptop, can I upgrade ram to 8gb?

Hi all,I have an slightly older HP laptop, an HP-G71-441NR.It's running Windows 7, 64 bit os,  with 4gb of ram.The ram is 2x 2gb SODIMM DDR2 800mhz. My question is, can I upgrade it to 8gb of ram?And if so do I need to stick with the same stuff or Could I upgrade to DDR3?I cannot find an 8gb ram upgrade which states it's specifically for this model online,so rather than guess I figured I would just ask.I can find 2 sticks of the same stuff in an 8gb setup, but if it wont work with my computer I dont want to have the hassle of buying trying and returning if it's not going to work anyhow. Thanks in advance!

That is correct.
The dv6000's with the nVidia chipset and the AMD Turion processors can only take a max of 2 x 2 GB of memory no matter what. I tested 2 x 4b chips in my dv6810us with the nVidia chipset and Turion processor and the PC would not boot.
I think that more than likely, 4 GB DDR2 memory modules were not available to test when the dv6700's came out, so HP kept the max at 2 x 2 GB for all of their dv6000 PC's--even the ones with the Mobile Intel 965 chipsets.
I also have a HP 8200 Elite CMT desktop PC. HP specs state max memory is 4 x 4 GB of PC3-10600 memory, but some guy just installed 4 x 8 GB of PC3-10600 memory for 32 GB.
Probably again because no 8 GB chips were available for testing. The chipset in my desktop supports 32 GB of memory, so I assume that is why it worked.
I may wait to see if the price for 8 GB memory chips comes down a little more. Currently, you can get 2 x 8 GB for around $100.

Hi,please suggest me some games for Compaq CQ62-105TU Laptop. Can I upgrade my laptop's graphics card

Unfortunately, you cannot upgrade the processor or graphics card on this laptop.
Here is a page from CPU-World that gives the specs for your processor:
    http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bobcat/AMD-E%20Series%20E2-1800.html
You will see down near the bottom of the page that it is not upgradeable. Some laptops come with the processor soldered to the motherboard. Almost all laptop graphics are this way. The only way that you would be able to get a faster processor/better graphics for this laptop would be to purchase a brand new motherboard. You can do an Ebay search for 'HP G6 motherboard' to see what average prices are if you want to go this route.

  • Can I upgrade Ram on my 1G iMac?

I have an iMac running OS X 10.6.8 with a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM...and now have both an iTouch and an iPad2 using iCloud...would like to use iCloud with my desktop machine also but understand I need to upgrade to Lion...when I try to get Lion I get a message that I must have 2GB Ram...can I upgrade Ram on this machine?

Keep in mind that this machine can only address approx. 3.2 GB of RAM (not the full 4 GB) - I know; I used to have the same machine. Mine was running well; however, I tend to do a lot of graphics work and editing video, and it was really slow with that. Lion is a bit of a memory hog; although the minimum states 2 GB, you will not be happy with that - 4 GB is about the minimum for Lion to perform reasonably well. However, if you do use the machine for graphics, pics, movies, videos, etc. it'll be slow going on 3 GB. Your machine is about 5 years old, right? You might want to consider waiting a bit with the iCloud - especially since most of its' functions are for iDevices - not a Mac - until you decide to upgrade to a newer, more powerful Mac. Some of the functions are only accessible via icloud.com on a Mac - if you will search for "icloud on a Mac" for instance in these forums, you might want to read some of the threads.

  • Can't upgrade RAM on new Macbook Pros?

I'm preparing to buy a new Macbook Pro, and have been told that the RAM that comes with the book is the RAM you get. No upgrade possible because the RAM modules are soldered into place. Is that so? I've always upgraded our computers to the max. Thanks in advance.

    That is indeed so.
There still appears to be one model (13" Mid 2012) that is still available that has upgradable RAM.

  • Trying to upgrade RAM from 8GB to 16GB

I purchased a brand new HP:
»HP Pavilion 17-f022ds Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
It has 8GB RAM and im trying to upgrade to 16. Its a 64bit operating system so I know it can be and you can also purchase this laptop with 16GB of RAM. My issue is that there is no RAM cover on the bottom of the laptop like normal HP's ive owned before. Whats up with this? Im a soldier and about to deploy again and im just trying to have a faster laptop and no one has been able to help me. I would have bought the 16GB Ram laptop if I saw it at the time I bought mine.

Based on the HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide for your computer, there may only be one SODIMM slot and it may only support up to 8GB of RAM. It is also possible that the SODIMM slot(s) are not user accessible.

  • Pavilion HDX 9480eg (same as HDX9300) Upgrade Ram to 8GB?

    Hi to everyone,
i'm a proud owner of the hp pavilion hdx 9480eg ..."laptop" (it's 2 years old now) and it came with 4GB (2x2GB) 2Rx8PC2 5300S (which means DDR2-SD 667 ram i guess...is that correct?).
Now i like to upgrade the system with 2x4GB = 8GB RAM and get Win7 64bit as OS (otherwise this would be useless...).
The current OS is windows vista 32 home and i don't know wheather there will be any problems with the 64-bit OS and the RAM...especially concerning the BIOS-compatibility with 8GB RAM. Searching for days now and only thing i found out is, that HP does not support win7 upgrade on my laptop because it's to old...
some details to my laptop hardware:
Official name of System in Vista: HP Pavilion HDX9300 Notebook PC (It was selled unter the name "HDX9480eg wich means, that it hase some aditional aspects as for ex. bigger sized hdd than the usual hdx9300)
    Intel core 2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2,40Ghz
    currently 4GB RAM
    GPU: nVidea GeForce8800m GTS
Windows 7 Upgrade advisor tells me, that 32bit win7 is possible and win7 64 bit also possible... only some unimportant software which i don't use anyway could get into some trouble... there are no problems listet that stand in relation to hardwaredrivers...
Can anyone help me and tell me, what is possible and what is not possible? The bigges uncertainty is the BIOS... will it be compatible with 8GB Ram?

Thanks a lot for your quick answer! i just have one more questions before i mark this question as compleatly answered:
From what information/experience (own experience or from other users) can you verify the compability of my dragon-laptop and win7 64bit? I need to be 100% shure, that there will be no bigger problems... because i also need the so called laptop for work...
do you think, i will notice a real difference between win vista 32 and win7 64 on my machine (for ex. in video-editing with photoshop or premiere cs4?)

  • Is it worth it to upgrade ram to 8gb - hp pavilion dv7-2043cl?

I am looking for some advice on whether it would be worth it to upgrade the RAM in my laptop from 4gb to the max of 8gb.
I have had this laptop for over 5 years and I use it for gaming. I am just wondering if I will notice a difference in performance by simply upgrading the RAM, or if the processor speed, video card, etc. are or will be outdated in the near future, and if I should just save that money and put it towards a new computer.
Here is the computer spec page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01705991
Crucial lists the upgrade kit for just under $200.

    Hi:
I certainly can help you with that driver but I would need to know the full model # of your 15z.
Normally, a z at the end of the first couple #'s means you have a notebook with AMD hardware (processor, chipset, graphics).
With that being written, if I am correct, then you need to first install the AMD chipset driver and reboot.
    First file listed.

For the graphics, run the Radeon Driver Verification Tool at the link below and it should provide a driver for you.

The network card driver you need can be found at the link below.  3rd one on the list is what you need.

I have been testing out the new W8.1 release preview and IMO, it is an acceptible compormise between having W8 look and act exactly like W7, and not changing W8 at all.
I can tell you that if my notebook or desktop PC came with W8.1, I would not downgrade to W7.
I can customize it enough with the new changes to make it work 90-95% like W7.

  • Upgraded ram to 8gb but only show 4gb free?

So i upgraded my 2011 late macbook pro to 8gb but it shows that only about 3.5ish to 4ish gb to be free. I had OS X Yosemite 10.10 installed as well. Please help me out!!

Agreed, for the most part: RAM is the fastest medium to keep and process data, so the more is used, the faster your machine will work. Caching/writing to disk (even an SSD), on the other hand...
Now, about those "memory cleaning" apps: there are the good ones, that actually clear inactive memory based on real alloc/malloc instructions left by running apps, and those, not so good, that will clean indiscriminately, shaving at the top, so to speak.
One good app that will work, though in your case it's pretty useless, given the total amount of RAM on your machine, is Purge; you can also invoke the "purge" command in Terminal every once in a while if you want, but it's not going to change the face of the Earth...

  • Trying to upgrade ram to 8GB

I have a Satellite L675D S7016.  It says I can put 8GB in.  I had 4GB (2x2) DDR3 10600.  I got 2x4GB and put them in and system would not boot windows 7.  The Bios says I had 8GB.  So I put old ram back in and everything worked fine.  then I changed the top slot with a new 4GB and it worked.  I swapped it to the bottom slot and it did not work.  I have 6GB in now.  Why can't I put both 4GB sticks in?

It's an old story. If you search the forums here, you'll find similar problems mentioned often. Because Toshiba machines are sensitive to specs, modules are often incompatible. Unless you buy the memory from Toshiba or the best memory made by Kingston, it's a crap shoot. Usually they are compatible, but sometimes they are a bit out of spec.
