Hp G72-b49WM Laptop

I got a hp G72-b49WM Laptop for grandson on 11/8/11 for Christmas to use when he is deployed to Kuwait.  He tried to use it on the 20th of Feb and instead of booting up it only has a blank screen with a blinking line on upper left handside of screen.  We hit the esc when it is turned on and it goes to the start up where you can run the system check, recovery etc.  But we run all the test and it says passed, but we hit the f11 and it goes to the blank screen and blinking line at the top again.  Called HP and because it is 18 days out of the 90 day warranty (it was a refur laptop) they refuse to fix.  I order a recovery disk so waiting for it to come in.  Anyone what could of happen and how to fix?  I have a HP myself and love it.  This is why I got HP and not another brand, wish I had now.

Hi,
The following assumes that Windows 7 is installed on the notebook.
If you don't already have one, use another PC to create a Windows 7 Rescue CD.  Download the relevant ISO from the links below.
Windows 7 32bit
Windows 7 64bit
You should use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  Once created, or if you already have this, insert the CD into the notebook and restart to boot from it.  Select the Repair option.
Select the 'Repair your Computer' option and follow Option 2 in the guide on the link below to run Start-up Repair – you may need to run this 2 or 3 times.

If the above fails to help, make a note of any error messages you may get during the procedure and include them with your next post.

  • External speakers on HP G72-130sa laptop

I have been trying to connect Logitech S220 external speakers to my laptop via the headphone socket but can get no sound.
Do I need to do anything on the computer itself (such as load drivers, adjust sound settings etc.).  I have been plugging the green speaker lead into the headphone socket.
    Hope someone can help
    This question was solved.

Hmmm, If you are getting sound for headphone Jack using Headphones...That the system is just fine....Now we are looking at Speaker and audio cable....I hope we have tested to see if the speaker set is working fine...
When it comes to simple setup like these, there are just 3 components that can be a problem area...Sound card, the Jack and Speaker itself....With Sound coming out of the jack using headphone than Sound card and Jack is working...We need to rule out speakers...
Just a wild card, try and install the audio driver from here... ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48281.exe
I don't see, it making to much of difference, but no harm trying....plus I am hoping that OS has not been changed....

  • G72-B61NR Laptop screen black;Num & Caps locks blinks; Hard Drive works fine

Hello everyone! I would like to get a solution to a problem I've been having with my laptop; if no solution, then a reason for my problem would be great. My laptop has recently stopped booting up correctly. Basically the screen is black and will not turn on. The NUM LOCK and CAPS LOCK LED lights flash a number of times before the computer shuts down. When I turn on the computer I can hear the fan and the hard drive running but no screen. I have been able to take out the hard drive from the laptop in hopes of salvaging important documents and I was able to do so by connecting it to a desktop. Is there anyway to fix my screen and save my laptop? Thank you in advance for any help.

Hello soTERRAble, welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you have a blank display with your notebook. I will try to help you with this.
From what you describe this could be indicating that something in the notebook is not working correctly, right now I wouldn't be able to tell you what but can provide you two documents that might be able to identify what.
Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps - this document may be able to assist you with the flashing LEDs your getting when trying to start the notebook. Watch to see if you can identify an error pattern. If you can compare it to the table in that document. This will provide an idea to what may be failing.
Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot - if the above document could not direct you to something failing, then follow this one.
Let me know where the above documents lead you.
Thank you for posting on the HP forums.

  • Laptop crashed after Redirect Virus/Trojan - please help!

I have HP G72-B66US laptop purchased 10/2010.  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.  I have McAfee Antivirus with current virus definitions and nothing was found but a month or so ago my McAfee firewall started turning off.  I would turn it back on and sometimes it would turn right back off again.  I’ve been concerned that I had some problem undetected by McAfee so I downloaded MalwareBytes.  I actually disconnected my laptop from our wireless internet connection and downloaded the MalwareBytes setup file onto a flash drive using our desktop PC and then installed MalwareBytes on my laptop without taking it back online.  MalwareBytes went all the way through a full scan and at the very end detected the Redirect Trojan.  When I attempted to remove this Trojan with Malwarebytes, my computer crashed.  When I rebooted, it was back connected to the wireless router and McAfee’s firewall was off again.  Now the laptop won’t even boot up.
[A] When I reboot it I get the “Starting Windows” message followed by the HP logo.  Then I get a Windows Error Recovery screen with the following message: “Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.  If Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem.  If power was interrupted during startup, chose Start Windows Normally.”  When I chose Startup Repair, it says “Windows is loading files” and then displays a blue screen with something that looks like rays of light beaming from the top center.  Then it says “Startup Repair”.  Then it shows the Recovery Manager screen in the background with Startup Repair window on top.  This window displays the message “Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically”.  Closing that window brings me to the Recovery Manager screen with 3 sections: “I need help immediately”, “I’d like to identify any problems”, and “I’d like to take precautions”.  The first section contained 3 options: Microsoft System Restore, System Recovery, and Minimized Image Recovery. The second section had 1 option: Run Computer Checkup.  And the third section had 1 option: File Backup Program.
[B] First I chose to back up my files.  I then tried to read the DVDs on my desktop PC and saw the whole thing is compressed, so I have not verified the integrity of the backup.  The Computer Checkup utility provides 3 options: Launch Check Disk for the Windows Partition, Launch Check Disk for the Recovery Partition, or Open a Command Prompt.
Running Check Disk for the Windows Partition, it went through the process of verifying files and then indexes and security descriptors.  I did not see anything that looked bad, though at the end the data flew rapidly up the screen so I couldn’t read it all.
[C] At this point, I clicked the X to close Recovery Manager.  It prompted: “Do you want to exit Recovery Manager and reboot?” and I clicked OK.  This brought me back to the stage described in [A] above.  This time I chose “Start Windows Normally.”  I got the “Starting Windows” message followed by the HP logo.  Then it went right back to the Windows Error Recovery screen with my two choices of “Startup Repair” or “Start Windows Normally”.
[D] I then went back into Recovery Manager and tried System Recovery.  Since I’d been having problems for a few weeks I chose to recover a few stages back, using 4/6/13.  That recover processed for a while but eventually failed.  The problem was identified as StartupRepairOffline.  I don’t know if I can even get my laptop back online since I can’t cleanly boot up, so if I need to be online to run the repair utility I’m stuck.
Please advise how I should proceed from this point…

I am running Kaspersky antivirus and the same problem is coming up like antivirus is turned off..
sysem recovery is not working as well as the recovery discs..what to do??

  • HP G72-a30EM Intel graphic driver problem

Hello, I am trying to install fresh Windows 7 on HP G72-a30EM laptop, and I encountered a problem while installing Intel graphic driver. If I install it (doesn't matter if the one from HP site or the one from Intel site), computer boots to black screen (turned off), but I can hear Windows 7 login sound. If I don't install it, I can only select two crappy screen resolutions.  I have already instaled Intel chipset driver, AMD driver, but nothing seems to work for me. Any help would be appreciated

    Hi there ,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are having trouble with the graphics drivers after a fresh install of Windows 7. I am happy to help with this.  You want to install the AMD driver from the HP website as it is for switchable graphics and includes the Intel driver as well in the same package. AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver. Download that version of the driver and save it to your notebook or some external device. Then, I would advise you to completely uninstall the Intel Graphics driver and the AMD driver as well. Then restart your system, and install the AMD driver from the HP website and see if that works for you.

  • Hp G72-B66US mic problems

    Hey Everyone,
I have experienced issues with my internal microphone after upgrading to Windows 7. I have a 17.3 inch G72-B66US laptop. I have redownloaded the driver related to the RealTek sound system but that did not seem to solve anything. I also went into the control Panel to test the mic out but the green bar next to the icon would not budge even when i scream at it. Is there any other way to diagnose the problem and potentially solve my issue? Thanks in advance!

You have to do a little detective work and cross-reference in the Manual but based on your processor (i3-370M), which is used on all models and the specs which say you have the Intel HD graphics (aka UMA) you have Model 1.2 because only Model 1.2 can use that combination of features. Only Models 1.1 and 1.2 can support 2 x 4 gigs of RAM. It is DDR3-1333 SO-DIMM but downclocks to 1066 speed.
It appears you already have the Service Manual but just in case here it is:
    Manual
Bottom line, you can upgrade to 8 gigs but will have to toss the 2 x 2 gig modules that came with the system. And you do not have to use the HP parts. This will work:
    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/memory/ct2k4g3s1339m
Memory has spiked up in price in recent months so this is not a good time to buy memory.

  • G72-B60US

Is there a good replacement wireless network card that fits into my HP G72-B60US laptop.  The Broadcom 4313GN wireless card that came with it will only do 72Mbps tops.  If I plug in a Netgear A6200 USB adapter, the speed goes up to 144Mbps.  I'd like to replace the Broadcom card with an Intel AC network adapter if possible.  I am purchasing a Dual Band router to replace my present Dlink router that has only 100Mbps capacity.

  • HP G72 Low audio volume

I just purchased an HP G72-227WM laptop. I had high hopes for the audio system when the description mentioned Altec. I am highly disappointed! If there is ANY noise in the room, I have to turn the volume all the way up to be able to hear it at all. Is anyone familiar with this? Is there any kind of fix for this that anyone is aware of? (besides an external powered sound system) Or is this just the nature of the beast?

I have had the same problem and many others.  The touchpad has a mind of its own as well.  I am EXTREMELY disappointed with this purchase and wish I could return it to be honest.
Has anyone found a solution to the sound issue?  or the touchpad issue for that matter?

  • G72-C55DX CPU upgrade

I have a G72-C55DX laptop with a P6100 CPU and I was wondering if something like a i5-480M would fit and also I was wondering if it'd help stabilize high definition streaming it will sort of glitch a little right now with the P6100 CPU,
I saw the HP G72 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide but I didn't know if i3s or i5s with turbo boost were supported because it uses a p6100 without turbo boost or if core i3 or i5 was even supported because my laptop uses pentium although I know it's socket g1.
    Thanks for your help.

Come on everyone else is getting help here why am I being ignored? :'( I just want to know if the i5-480M will be compatible with my laptop because my computer is a pentium 6100 without turbo boost and also if this CPU will help stabilize high definition video or is that something else.  Please, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  • HP Pavilion G72-259WM

    Hi,
I have bought a HP Pavillion G72-259WM laptop from my friend.
As the specifications make me feel to go for a system upgrade,
please provide whether I can upgrade
    1) the processor of the laptop for better Cache memory (Inter Corei3 or so on...)
    2)RAM upgrade from DDR2 to DDR3
3)Overall upgrade of system for better graphix.
    4) Hardwares items details for upgrading for Intel Core i3 processor with 3MB cache and 4 GB RAM.

    Hi,
Page #1-1 of the first manual on the following link shows you a list of CPU's supported:
        http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&document=&product=4221435
Your machine can have 8Gb of RAM (given the OS supported this). But it uses "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M" that means you can't change the video card w/o buying a new motherboard. Please read the book, it will help you a lot in decison making.
    Hope this helps.

  • Does your brand new laptop come with a "Certified Repaired HDD"?

The hard disk of my HP G72-B63NR laptop has just crashed. I bought this brand new in Jan 2011 but did not purchase any extended warranty, so I am fully prepared to get a new hard disk and restore the system myself. However, to my surprise, when I remove the hard disk, I discovered that it is a "Certified Repaired HDD" from Seagate!
I googled and found a post from someone saying that their HP computers at work are like that too. Does anyone else have the same experience?
I bought the laptop brand new, so I am sure the hard disk came with the laptop because I have not changed my hard disk. Like I said, I am prepared to get a new disk myself, but this really leaves a bad taste.

Thanks much for the information. According to our database, the hard drive in your system is replaced in July 2011 in a HP service Center.
