  • What is host bus interface for pavilion dv7 1448dx

I'm thinking of Installing a usb 3 ExpressCard/54 in a Pavllion dv7 1448dx. Does anyone know where I can find out if the host bus interface of the 1448dx ExpressCard slot is Gen 1.0 enabled or Gen 2.0 enabled.
That will tell me if it's worth the efffort to add a USB 3 express card. According to the manufacturer of the card if the interface is Gen 1 the throughput is 2.5 Gbps and if the interface is  Gen 2 then the throughput is 5Gbps.

    Hi,
You are having a fast car, you need a good road to run it fast, and if the laws allow you to run it fast. Anyway, you can buy RAM from Crucial or use the information (including price) to by elsewhere:

  • Cluster Validation Fails on List iSCSI Host Bus Adapters

I have an 8 Node SQL Failover Cluster.
This cluster has been in service for quite some time now, suddenly the Cluster Validation is failing...
When it gets to the "List iSCSI Host Bus Adapters" (which we do no use on any of these nodes) it fails with the error:
"An error occurred while executing the test. There was an error getting information about the iSCSI controllers installed on the nodes. There was an error retrieving information about the iSCSI host bus adapters from node 'node1'. Invalid class "
The test is not performed on any of the other nodes, it just fails.
This is causing a problem when trying to extend SQL to some of the newer nodes that have been added.
I have tried evicting and readding nodes, I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling failover clustering, among other things.
I did notice that on node7, if I attempt validation, and ONLY mention node7, the test will complete on that box only.
Again, we do not even use iSCSI, this is a Fibre Channel cluster.  It's just the attempt by the validation wizard to list the iSCSI Host Bus Adapters that do not exist, that is failing....
Any thoughts?  I did see a similar post which mentioned having a problem listing Fibre Channel adapters that sounded like the exact same error, but there was no resolution there either...

  • Do I need a PCI slot that is a bus master to use DMA transfers?

I want to install 3 PCI-6534, 1 PCI-6602, 1 PCI-6115 S board in a Industrial PC with a single board computer. Do all the PCI slots need to support "bus mastering" to us the DMA of all the boards?

    Hi Chris,
Yes all the PCI slots must support bus mastering. That is the only way for our cards to take control and transfer data via DMA. Most PCs (including industrial PCs with PCI-to-PCI bridges) support bus mastering on all slots. If bus mastering happens to be disabled, here are some steps to change that in the bios:
    1. Reboot your computer. Watch for the message during reboot that instructs you on how to enter the BIOS/Setup. Some systems have these messages disabled, so you may need to check your computer's user manual for the keys to hit. Most computers use a function key (e.g., F1, F2, or F10), but it depends on the system.
    2. Once you enter the BIOS/Setup, look for an menu or option that will allow you to view settings for the PCI Bus. Typi
cal menus will have names like "Advanced" or "Computer Setup". Some systems do not give you access to the settings for the PCI Bus, so if you do not see anything, check with your computer manufacturer for assistance.
    3. Look for an option to "Enable Bus Mastering" and select it.
    4. Save your setting and exit.

  • Bus powered external drive for MacBook

    Hi,
I'm looking for an external HD to use with my MacBook, and I'm a bit confused about power. I'd rather avoid lugging around an extra power supply and international adaptor when I'm traveling if it can be avoided.
Does the MacBook's firewire port provide bus power? Is it sufficient to power a 2.5" external HD?
Is USB a better option if I want a bus powered HD? Are there any clear advantages to one or the other?

For the longest time, FireWire was the only practical solution to bus-powered hard drives. FireWire provides a heck of a lot of power (typically 7 to 8W) while USB by definition provides up to 2.5W per port (if powered). FireWire has so many advantages, but cost seems to be the consideration that's won out.
Current USB bus-powered external drives seem to be feasible because of newer 2.5" drives with reduced power consumption. Still - many drives come with (or they can be bought) cables with two male ends. One end is used for data/power, while the other draws more power from a 2nd powered USB port.
I have no problem getting a 160 GB WD Passport (Black) USB 2.0 drive to work on my iBook 1.42 or my new MacBook. It does take a while to mount in the OS though, although the same goes for Windows.

  • Windows host view of VBox host only adapter

This question was brought to my attention a few days ago by someone who thought the Vbox hostonly adapter got its IP address from the user's router.  I had a difficult time setting him straight, but he did have a configuration that is puzzling.  On the host Windows system, drilling down from the control panel ...
Where I have assigned an IP address, (see screenshot)
He had "obtain an IP address automatically.  His hostonly adapter was running with the default value of 192.168.56.1.
Until now, I had never really had a reason to take a look how the host sees the hostonly adapter.  I had only ever looked at it from the VBox manager.  So there is a gap in my understanding here.

    Dude! wrote:
The Host-only adapter provides built-in DHCP services and a network proxy for the virtual machine to access the host computer system. The VirtualBox DHCP server can be configured in the Network settings of the VirtualBox application preferences.
The virtual machine guest OS can use static or automatic TCP/IP addressing. The default IP range for static addressing is 192.168.56.2 to 192.168.56.99. Using this adapter, the virtual machine guest OS can access the host system only by using the Host-only adapter in place of the actual configured host system IP address. The default address of the Host-only adapter is 192.168.56.1. VirtualBox will automatically do the necessary traffic forwarding.
Yes, I understand all that, and nothing new there.  What I am confused about the is the host's view of the VBox hostonly adapter, as a network adapter right along side the standard "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection", etc.  In particular, why the host says the adapter is configured to "Obtain an IP address automatically" (DHCP).  We know that this adapter is created and configured by the VBox manager.  We know that the VBox manager gives it its IP address (with the default being 192.168.56.1).  So why does the host OS think it is assigning a DHCP address to the adapter?  And why would THAT not be constant across different machines?  ( Well, maybe I know the answer to that second question.  We are dealing with Windows here.  And we know that no two Windows systems are ever the same if they've been out of the shrink wrap for more than five minutes.)

  • USB Ports & USB Card Bus Adapter

I have a Satellite A15-S127 that I bought brand new when they were released the end of May, 2003. In general, it has and still does run great. A few years back I went from using WindowsXP Home, which came pre-installed, to WindowsXP Pro. Just after that the 2 factory installed USB ports in the back of the laptop stopped working. I tried to get them back working and couldn't so I bought a 2 Port USB Card Bus Adapter, which has worked great giving me back useable USB ports.  Well, all of a sudden when I insert the Card Bus into the laptop, everything locks up. I can do nothing but remove it and hold down the power button to shut it down and reboot. I even bought a new Card Bus Adapter and it does the same thing. Now I have no useable USB ports.
Im hoping someone can help me to either get my originally installed USB ports working or to get my PC card slot working again.
    Thanks
        Logan Krewe

I wanted to add to this...I did plug in a CF card the other day and that was recognized.  I then tried my external hard drive directly again in a front USB port and it worked for a while (an hour or so).  Then it suddenly was not there anymore as if I'd ejected it even though I didn't.  Tried to put it back in and nothing.  This tells me it may be a hardware problem since it "recognized" it for a bit.  It's very frustrating.

  • Editing with Bus-powered External Drive

    Hello,
I have a MBP and usually edit using a bus-powered USB drive. It works fine, but I'm wondering if I would get a performance increase if I use a bus-powered Firewire drive. I know Firewire is faster, but if the drive is a 2.5-inch 5400 RPM that's powered by the Firewire port, does it matter?
    Thanks.

Yes, FireWire is indeed faster than USB. FW400 is about 40% faster and FW800 about 70% faster for typical throughput. This will be true regardless of hard drive (assuming the same hard drive in any case.)

  • Setting parameters for synching pci-6534 cards via RTSI bus

    I have been performing high-speed,
buffered, looping output with one pci-6534 card.  I am now adding
a second 6534 card that I need to sync to the first card via the RTSI
bus.  I have successfully used the RTSI bus to see the master REQ1
and ACK1 signals on those channels of the slave (seen at a connector
block), using the "RTSI control" vi.  I simply set the master and
slave as transmitter and receiver, respectively, over the RTSI bus.
The question is: Once I have used the RTSI control vi to share the
necessary signals, do I need to do anything in my "dio config," "dio
write," or "dio start" vi's in the looping output code for the 2nd 6534
card to let it know that its REQ, ACK, STPTRG, and CLK signals are
coming from the bus?  For example, in the buffered pattern looping
output vi, the "dio start" vi has choices of "internal" or "RTSI
connection" for its clock.  My master board's code simply uses the
internal.  Does my slave need to be set to RTSI connection, or,
once I have shared the clock signal over the RTSI bus, is that
effectively the internal clock for my slave too?
I apologize it this question is confusing.  Unfortunately, so is the issue.

    Hello bwz,
When you are performing synchronization across the RTSI bus you need to specify that the slave device should get its clock signals from there.  You would use the digital clock config VI to do this.  If you look in the example finder, you will find synchronization example VIs that do the same kind of thing for analog input.  To find the examples, open the example finder by going to Help >> Find Examples >> Hardware Input and Output >> Traditional DAQ >> Multiple Device.
If you are just getting started developing your application, you may want to consider using DAQmx.  There are many more examples available to look at for this type of synchronization.  To find these examples in the example finder go to Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx >> Synchronization >> Multi-Device.  To use your PCI-6534 with NI-DAQmx, you must have version 7.4 or later.  The newest version is DAQmx 7.5.  You may also want to look at this tutorial about synchronization with DAQmx.
    I hope this helps!

  • BX MASTER-how to set up PCI slot to be a BUS MASTER

Hi, trying to install NIC EN1207D ,but when I go to check IP address ,it says "Media disabled".Running WIN ME ,installed drivers OK ,ACCTON(NIC manufacturer) says it needs to be installed on PCI BUS Master .How do I do that on this mobo .Thanks. ?(

I think they mean install the card in a PCI BUS Master slot (try another slot).

  • Hyper-V locks up PCI modem port on host machine

I have a Windows 2008 Server with a PCI US Robotics Fax/Modem card installed.  Additionally, this Win2008 Server is running a virtual machine (Hyper-V) that is configured to be an SQL server.
When the virtual machine is OFF.  I have no issues with the Fax/Modem on the host.
As soon as I start the VM, I cannot query my modem and all Fax/Modem functions stop working.  The issue is the COM3 Port assigned to the Fax/Modem is being opened and never released by the VM.  As soon as I stop the VM, all Fax/Modem functionality
returns to normal and I can open COM3 and query the modem.
    Thanks, Jim

I installed a USB Modem (Creative Modem Blaster).  This has the same issue; actually both modems have the same issue (I left the internal US Robotics modem installed).
Not all VMs are stealing my modems.  I have a Server with about 5 VMs and none of the VM's are stealing my modem.  I installed another VM that is being used as a domain controller and this VM does not steal my modem.  BUT, this one VM is stealing
any modem I connect except a modem connected to the serial port.
The VM in question is running SQL server under a cluster with 2 nodes.  It is using 3 of the 4 NICs, 4 CPUs and 8GM of RAM.
Does anyone know of any reason a VM would grab a hold of a modem and not let it go?

  • Synchronization of PCI devieces via the RTSI bus using the measurement studio for Viusual Basic 6

    Hi everyone,
I would like to synchronize a NI 4474 A/D card with a NI 6733 D/A card via the RTSI bus. Is there any way of sharing the timebase using the measurement studio for VB 6.0? It seems like it could be possible using the traditional NI-DAQ .DLL but I would prefer to do it with the ActiveX API.
I am quite desperate, since all my attempts to use the CWDAQTools1.RouteSignal and CWDAQTools1.RouteRTSI command failed miserably :-(
Thank you very much in advance!
    Federico

    Thank you very much indeed!
Unfortunately it doesn't really work... I cannot use the DI options since my A/D card (NI 4474) does not support DI/DO... When using the other option (CWDAQTools1.RouteRTSI) I keep getting an error message that this command is inapropriate for my device (even though it does have a RTSI bus and allegedly it also supports time sharing...)
    Looking forward to your answer!
    Kind regards
    Federico
