HP HDX Premium DVD player stopped reading dvd/cd

Hi All...
My DVD?CD player stopped reading discs. I can see the files on it, but when I try to access the files, it makes noise as if it's accessing the files, but never does.
Can anyone help with this?

The first and easiest thing to try is cleaning the laser. You can get a laser cleaning disc at any store that sells DVDs, even Walmart. If you can see that a disc is in the drive, i.e. it mounts the disc and you can see the title of the disc in My Computer, then there cannot be a software issue for the drive and it must be that the laser can't work fully.

TSSTCorp CDDVDW TS-H653Z Stopped reading and writing

I have a Pavilion Elite m9550f with a TSSTCorp CDDVDW TS-H653Z. It has been working fine until yesterday and now it will not read or write...but drive will open and close.
Thus far I have tried
1. Removing the Upper and Lower files as recommended in another blog
2. Deleting the drive and let windows find it again.
3. Run fixya
4. Run HP Pc Scan and repair
5. All cables are connected
Nothing as worked.
Please help!

I understand that all of a sudden your DVD player stopped reading or writing on your HP Pavilion Elite m9550f Desktop PC. I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure, I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums, since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Business PCs - Compaq, Elite, Pro.

OS 10.6.8 dvd player stopped working

OS 10.6.8 dvd player stopped working (stutters - no sound) when I am in my usual log-in but does work in my alternate (checking) log-in, disk permissions repair did not help. I trashed a dvd.plist file from my users/Library/Preferences folder but no change. Any suggestions most welcome.

Thanks for reminding me about VLC Player. I had an old version that I occasionally used for AVIs and such but I hadn't used it for quite awhile. Of course, it works perfectly so I'll take your advice and (sort of) forget about the Apple DVD Player - although I hate having a glitch that I can't get to the bottom of.
For example, removing both of those items made no difference.
Re: the two accounts when in safe mode, DVD Player doesn't work at all in safe mode...

No doubt when I eventually upgrade to Lion the DVD Problem will sort itself out. Until then, I have good ole' VLC. I appreciate the help.

My imac stopped reading dvd-r....says its a blank disc

So I have a imac intel g5 with two dvd drives. When I first got it,i could read and write on both dvd-r's and dvd+r's...however for some reason both drives stopped reading the dvd-r's. The computer recognizes them only as blank dvd's. I know for sure that there is data (a bunch of quicktimes) on the disc. In fact, I burned them there myself when the discs read fine, and even double checked them after burning on the same mac and they read fine. So I can also tell you the discs were burned properly and finalized. And the discs even read right now on my friend's PC. Now dvd+r's work just fine. Also, I've already gone to"about my mac" info to double check that the drives are able to read and write both dvd formats, and confirmed that they should and like I said, they worked just fine originally. I am really perplexed.

There is no such machine: intel G5 - it is either an Intel or the (previous generation) G5 PPC. So, since you also show you are running 10.4.11, it is possible that it is a G5. In that case, you have posted in the wrong forum (for Intel iMacs) and you would get much better answers in the appropriate forum for PPC iMacs.
Now, if it is an Intel, there is something else puzzling me: You say you have two dvd drives? How is that - AFAIK, there has not been an iMac made with 2 Superdrives. So could you please explain that with a bit more detail.

Hello everyone,
I am trying to Partition my Hardrive and install Windows 7.
Unlike the guides on youtube in order to partition the Hard drive windows 7 has to be installed i.e. the 'Partition' button in Bootcamp is replaced with 'Install'.
My OS is MountainLion, Bootcamp is up-to-date version 5.0.1.
I put my Fightclub DVD and it read fine, the Windows 7 Home Premium DVD however doesn't even appear in Finder.
Any suggestions are welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Still not working. Have cleaned the reader and other DVD's work, just isolated to my original Windows Home Premium 7 DVD.

Powerbook stops reading CDs or DVDs

My year old PB has had a problem reading CDs and DVDs. It will stop reading after several minutes of working well. Superdrive spins and stops over and over without being able to continue to read discs. Hate to think that it needs to go to the Apple store. Anyone have any suggestions?

and test the Disc Drive.
The early white Intel iMac models had 17, 20 and 24" display sizes and the aluminum Intel iMac models only come in 20 and 24" display sizes?

PowerPC G5 CD/DVD stopped reading CD-Rs

My PowerPC G5 stopped reading CD-Rs. It reads DVDs fine. Never had a problem before reading CD-Rs. Does anyone know if there is a way I can fix this?

Classic 160 ipod / windows vista media player stops working

After I download itunes and Quiktime along with my ipod classic 160, my windows media player stops playing dvd's & cd's. Any fixes known. I've tried regedit using the register editor 3 times with no luck. Like the ipod but to uninstall itunes everytime I want to watch a dvd / listen to a cd, is a pain in the backside. Thanks for sharing. PS. I've contacted Gateway,Apple,Microsoft with no luck. Statements mostly heard are sorry can't help and to contact the others I previously typed. Pass the buck. wish I had bought the zune.

Try to remove the old (Npdsplay dll in the plugins list) WMP plugin in case that is used.
The embed for Firefox has autostart="1" not not autostart=false (0) like the object for IE.

quick time player stop every ten minutes? my video is on the hdd so any ideas i have a 4gb ram and 10.5.8

before I had a symbol on my dock of quick time, now i don't have it
when i go to system preferences i see quick time there, but i can't put it on dock, it doesn't let me
i watch the videos from www.etvnet.com, and before it would always open in quick time, but now i have to open videos in VLC player.
if i try to find application for quick time among all application on my hard drive, it's not there..
maybe i accidently delete it - i don't know.
The question is- if i deleted it, can it be restored? can i download it again from my Mac Os X Install DVD?

DR4-A stopped reading!

After I used the Add Hardware Wizard, everything worked fine. The day after I installed PowerDVD(bundled) it stopped reading anything other than DVDs. I uninstalled PowerDVD to see if it was somehow interfering. Now, the drive will recognize DVDs but, of course, can't read them. It still doesn't even recognize any other type of disk.
I tried re-installing it with XP and physically disconnecting and re-connecting it. I tried reverting to restore points and get an error message when I try to open Sonic MyDVD that says it can't initialize.
I downloaded the firmware patch and made a boot disk. I don't know why, but when I use the boot disk, I lose keyboard control at the A: prompt and can't load the patch.
Any ideas on what the problem is and what to do? The rest of my hardware seems to work fine.

After you've un-install windows and re-install, did you do immediate XP update? Try to download the MPEG4 codecs from http://www.3ivx.com and install the DVD player again and see how it goes.
For the flash, I suggest that you can try using CD Boot Flash and see if it works out.

MacBook Pro stopped reading discs

My 15" late 2008 macbook pro has decided to stop reading discs;
the only discs that are read are the OS installation discs, while other CDs and DVDs are read as blank.
I've used a cleaning disc and I've done a PRAM and SMC reset but it's still not working.
My current OS is 10.7.5.
Has anyone else had such an issue before?

Since you say that you have used a lens cleaning DVD, I suggest an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and see if they can assist you.

I am experiencing the same issue with a new external DVD burner, a Sony DRX-840U. When I load a CD into this external drive it appears in iTunes but when you go to import or play the CD iTunes indicates playing or importing for each individual track for just a moment. The end result is that nothing is ever imported or played. I am experiencing this on two different systems. One a notebook running Win2K and the other a desktop running XPpro. If I use the internal DVD drives on either of these systems everything work just fine. Yet I am able to use this new external DVD drive with every other application. For example Window Media Player has no problem playing or importing the same CD that iTunes fails on. The last person indicated that if one set the DVD drive in question to be the drive of choice under preferences>advanced>burning that all was ok. I my case this Sony external drive is the drive listed as the drive of choice for burning yet the issue still exists.
As this appears to be an issue that others are also experiencing help from Apple Tech Support would be greatly appreciated.

MBP stopped reading DL discs

Looks like a common problem, which I'm adding my $.02 worth.
My Superdrive has stopped reading burned DVD+DL "Dual Layer" discs. It was reading them just fine, but recently, it has been spinning them and then ejecting the discs after about 20-30 seconds of "whirring".
This only just began within the past few weeks. Prior to this, I was able to read Dual Layer discs with ease in both the Mac environment and in my Boot Camp Windows XP partion.
Out of the blue, the Dual Layers were being ejected. About 3 out of 10 times, the Superdrive would read the disc. Now, it has completely stopped reading the discs. Regular DVD's are fine...I have not tried a Dual Layer movie DVD yet.
I have also attempted SMC and PRAM restarts to no avail. Is this due to a firmware update, or could this be a sign that the Superdrive is failing and needs to be replaced?
I really hope someone at Apple will address this. I haven't seen a solution to this issue yet.

I have an IMac 10.5.2 from about 5 years ago and recently my flash player stopped responding. I tried to update my flash player but it tells me I need an updated system to install the player. Can anyone help me figure out how to solve this problem?

Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3.183.23 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 or later is for Snow Leopard onwards.

You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:
