HP L1706 Monitor and other suggestions

Does anyone know if the HP L1706 monitor is compatible witht the Mac mini? I just purchased 2 Mac mini superdrives for my school and am looking for relatively inexpensive monitors for them. I can spend about $250 each.

Remote desktop connection caused host to lose a monitor and other settings

Hello
After a successful remote desktop login, on the host I can now no longer detect the 2nd monitor. Screen resolution on remaining monitor is off, it's gone over to use Microsoft Basic Display Adapter even though it was using the correct adapter previously.
Both previously working display adapters now show Code 12 error: "this device cannot find enough free resources that it can use". The system has also become very slow, when I right-click the desktop, it takes up to 30 sec for the menu to appear.
Anyone had a problem like this? I have restarted the computer several times, reverted system to a working state last week, done another successful remote desktop login/logout from my laptop to this computer.
Windows 8.1 Pro
Displays: Dell U2412M
Intel R HD Graphics 4600

This error message can also appear if the BIOS did not allocate enough resources to the device, I want to know how much RAM do you have on your computer, because the Display Adapter calls for extra RAM to run the monitor.
If you don’t have enough RAM to allocate, the monitor won’t start, that’s why the computer becomes very slow.
Here I suggest a possible solution:
Adjust the amount of memory dedicated to video/graphics. You can change that in BIOS. there might be an option in your PC's BIOS that lets you change the amount of system memory used for video/graphics.
You'll just need to find it in the BIOS, the BIOS options in the Advanced settings,
the option varies depends on the BIOS version
you can set the maximum memory that it can take to a lowest value.

Dual monitor, and other questions....

I'm sorry for these questions if they've already been discussed... with all the back lash, I'm having a hard time wading through all the comments.
I have a macbookpro.
I use an external 24" monitor along with my 15" laptop for editing. My 15" is used for my canvas.
1: Can I use this set up with the new FCP X?
I use PPro CS5 currently and I like the way it handles media and saving my projects.
2: How does FCP X handle media?
2.a: Does it handle media like iPhoto / Aperture?
2.b: Are projects saved like in iMovie?
I keep all my media on external hard drives.
3: Will this be a problem with FCP X?

On my dual monitor Mac pro, the main monitor has the timeline and canvas. The second monitor has the events I think, basically the bin. You'd probably want to make your 24 the main monitor
FCP X handles media and projects a lot like iMovie. iTunes and iPhoto are accessed just like iMovie. You can save media to whatever drive you want although you can't really drill down to a particular location

Lr CC won't open. Tried signing out and back into CC and other suggested solutions.

I use Window 8.1. Downloaded CC trial two weeks ago and installed Lr 5 and Ps. I created the Lr catalog in a location other than that suggested by Lr 5 (a secondary drive). Lr 5 and Ps worked fine and I intended to buy the Photography package. Then I upgraded to Lr CC and uninstalled Lr 5. Lr CC won't open. The Trial screen appears, I click on "Continue Trial," it goes away and Lr doesn't open. I tried signing out and back into CC numerous times, I uninstalled and reinstalled Lr CC and even the CC app, still nothing. I tried deleting the .lrcat.lock file but couldn't find it, so I deleted all the catalog files and folders (it was just a practice run). There seems to be no way to get Lr CC to open.

Flash Player 10.1 and other suggestions

First off, I want to say thanks to Adobe and the Browserlab team. I understand a lot of people won't appreciate the service, but I have used a number of services in the past and can appreciate the challenges and issues of what Adobe is trying to do. The product is currently not very mature, but even so it is still a valuable service to the Adobe community.
The first issue I have is that I am unable to test Flash 10.1 applications, as the service appears to be using a version of FP older than 10.1. This was consistent across all of the browsers I tested. It would be very nice if, in addition to browser version, Adobe allowed the user to choose which FP version to test. Since I work with Flex daily, this would be extremely valuable.
I also think Adobe could benefit from micro-leasing VM VNC sessions. Browsercam seems to be doing this successfully. I have used it for years. It's expensive ($40/month), but it works well and if you test a lot it's well worth the price. Your sessions last 10 minutes (if I recall) and if you need more time to test you can just create another session.
One of the huge benefits to Browsercam is that you can chose the OS (XP, Vista, Win7, OSX, Ubuntu), the browser version for each OS and the FP version.
There should also be a way to save testing results. Either allowing the user to save them to a library on Browserlab, or downloading to their computer as an archive file.
A slideshow view would also be nice.
As others have suggested, a way to test content that requires authentication is essential.
Lastly, a way to setup a series of tests and let them all run asynchronously would be very valuable.
But let's get the FP issue fixed first, because I need it tomorrow. I can wait until Monday though

The screen on my iPhone 5 (iOS 8.1.3) went dark after unplugging it from the PC. I could still could see a backlight on the screen, but unresponsive. iOS was hung in this state.
I opted to try a reset holding power and home button, which succeeded in turning off the phone.
After that, the screen went completely off. Power button didn't appear to turn on the phone.
Upon plugging back to iTunes, I discovered, even as the screen was pitch black, the phone was actually able to power on, or off if I repeated the reset....I could hear the USB connection chime on the PC every time I powered on or reset. The iOS was in some sort of corrupted state with no screen output.
I couldn't restore to factory settings, as iTunes requires I disable "Find My Phone" on the phone itself, which I couldn't do without screen output. Also tried to put the phone in "Recovery Mode"...didn't work either.
I finally succeeded by:
Logging in via web browser to iCloud, locating the phone with the "Find My Phone" web app, and triggering [Erase]. iCloud reported the phone was successfully erased.
After a minute, the phone rebooted itself and screen output worked again.
I then restored my data and settings from my last backup using iTunes without further issues.
Hope this helps others.

I've tried http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 and other suggestions first, which turned out unrelated.
I've finally fixed the issue by plugging the cable in the USB 3 ports in the back of PC instead of the ports in the front, the iTunes saw the phohe and the recovery started automatically.
In the hindsight, I realized that the either the required prerequisite iTunes 11.1.5.5 update installed a USB driver incompatible with my PC's front side USB ports that I always used for my iPhone syncing prior or it was always
incompatible, but worked in all modes except the recovery.

Monitor and i/o hardware advice for fcp6 editor

I am a videographer who mostly creates content for the web. I have an upcoming project for local broadcast and would like to get a calibrated video monitor for editing. Can anyone advise on a monitor and other hardware for someone on a budget. Matrox? Ideally it would be a flat screen monitor that isnt too big.
I shoot DVCPRO HD (hpx170) to p2 cards, then log and transfer to FCP 6. I keep my media on a 4TB esata enclosure. I have a G5 dual 2.7 mac powerPC and will probably upgrade to a new intel tower when they come out in June. Presently I don't have the need to capture uncompressed HD but wouldn't mind having the ability to do so if possible. The HPX170 doesnt have an hdmi out, so I don't think I could do so with a matrox. Is it possible to get uncompressed HD out of the HPX thru HD/SDI into a mac g5 and fcp6? or an intel macbook pro?

For reference, I have the same G5 dual 2.7 PowerPC tower, FCP6 and shoot DVCProHD to P2 (An HPX500 for me). My research findings were that neither the AJA I/O HD or the Matrox solutions will work with a PowerPC for HD - we both need to upgrade to Intel machines for that. Both my tower and my Intel macBookPro work great with my AJA I/O for uncompressed SD, but as we know, HD is another beast all together.
For what it's worth, I don't think that outputting material RECORDED to P2 as DVCProHD will give you anything by "uncompressing" it - DVCProHD is 4:2:2 8-bit and won't get any better... (live feed from a camera may be another matter).
Bottom line - Both the Matrox and AJA solutions have been getting great reviews with Intel machines, I guess the writing is on the wall for us!

Thank you. I didn't know about the universal access adjustment. All the way left is a little better, but still much fainter than on my own imac. I'm not sure why apple uses grey typeface, but it's so faint on this imac monitor that it was difficult to find the "reply" option on this post. Are there any other suggestions? thank you

What do you mean by "HD to VGA adapter converter"?
Do you mean have an HDMI to VGA adapter connected the the Mini's HDMI port?
Or maybe you plugged n the the included HDMI to DVI adapter and then connected a DVI to DVI adapter?
In either case that will not work since VGA is analog and the Mini's HDMI port is digital only.
You need to purchase a mini displayport to VGA adapter. It plugs into the Mini's Thunderbolt port.

I have confirmed with apple that it cannot run the LED monitors that apple sells.

I know there were many more problems 5 yrs ago with 3rd party monitors and have been some issues in between also.
Apple does have what is needed to use multiple 30 inch displays and the 5770 is pretty mainstream and standard.
It is also about the only card being sold outside ebay and a couple places in case you want to take your chances with Nvidia 8800GT 1st gen model or ATI 4870.

The next time you have the problem, note the exact times when it starts and ends: hour, minute, second.
