HP Laptop and Linksys E2000

I cannot get the HP laptop HP dv6915 connected to a Cisco Linksys E2000 router.  I have updated drivers for the WiFi card but can't get connected via the wireless connection.  Cisco is no help at all.  Does anytone have the magic answer on how to make this connection?

Hi:
The only thing I can think of, is because the E2000 is a selectable dual band router, you should make sure it is set for the 2.4 GHz frequency. If it is set to the 5 GHz frequency, your wireless card won't pick it up. According to the specs on your notebook, it has a wireless G (2.4 GHz) card.

  • Reset Linksys E2000 router and now my HP-6310 is Offline.

I recently reset my wireless Linksys E2000 router...changed network SSID name and WPA security key and now no one on my home network can print to the HP-6310. I am running Windows 7 and when I go to Devices and Printers, &  double-click on HP Officejet 6300 Series, it shows the printer is "offline". My printer is configured as a network printer and is connected to my router via Ethernet cable. How do I get it back online and printing again?
    Would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    Gary

Delete all instances of the printer in Devices & Printers.  Re-add it with this method:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Linksys E2000 (2 Xbox 360's and 1 PS3) Open Nat Problem

    Hi everyone,
I recently bought the Linksys E2000 for my house so i could enjoy wireless internet. The problem is i have two Xbox 360s which one is wired and the other wireless. It seems that i can't have both Xboxs with OPEN NAT and whichever one connects to the router first is the one to have OPEN NAT no matter what. This leaves the other Xbox with MODERATE or STRICT. Is there a way to have both open at the same time? If anybody knows help would be appreciated! Thanks
**I have a PS3 also connected wirelessly, but that one is always OPEN. Didn't know if that would affect my PS3's NAT if i were to change the setting on my router.

Here's a checklist. Got it here.

  • Linksys E2000 drops connection

Hey everyone, I have had my Linksys E2000 for a few months now. But up until now, I havent used the wireless settings too much, I have had everything hardwired into the router.
I decided last week to set up the wireless settings so that I can connect my PC and Xbox's wirelessly. They are all within about 10 feet from the router. The connection is fine for a while, but after a few days it begins to degrade. I opened up a command line and pinged 192.168.1.1 to see results of 150+ms on my PC wirelessly. Wired it was about 2ms.
All of my devices have a static IP address on the LAN, and one of my Xbox's is in the DMZ, still dropping connection often. I moved my PC and DMZ Xbox to another room on the second floor of my house and its still about the same speed.
I set my old wireless G router up and its working fine......but I use my PC as a home media server, so 54mbps is very slow for media that needs upwards of 100+mbps. My ISP subscription is about 12mbps, which I get all 12 of those on a hardwired machine, but a wireless on the E2000 is lucky to get 3 of those.
I have everything set up correctly in the router settings, MTU of 1500, with only Wireless N broadcasting. I also noticed that the E2000 will drop connection much faster if the SSID is hidden. My old Wireless G router is getting pings of less then 1ms wirelessly.
I have the Xbox S models and my wireless adapter is a Edimax wireless N adapter. Could this be a defective router? Any options to try to fix the problems?

I'm experiencing similar problems as well.  I'm going to try these settings out and see what happens.  Reseting my router fixes the problem, but I don't want to have to do this once a week or more.  My WRT54GS worked great, but I wanted the speed that N had to offer.   Its rather annoying because I hate having to go upstairs every time I need to reset my router in order to get an IP address on my wireless laptop downstairs.
This seems to be an apparent problem among Wireless-N in general.  D-Link, Linksys and Netgear all seem to have problems with dropped wireless-N connections on their routers too. Read the reviews on Amazon & Newegg for yourself.

  • Linksys e2000 starting to go bad?

Hello all. I'm starting to worry that my e2000 router might be going bad. I had it set up as a wi-fi repeater (same SSID/authentication as the main router), using the dd-wrt ROM, but last night I kept losing the wireless connection. At first I thought it was my computer connected via ethernet  (I was/am using as a server and was trying to replace CentOS Linux with Gentoo)  but my laptop, which is connected wirelessly and my phone kept losing the signal as well. Thinking the problem might be with dd-wrt, I reflashed the latest stock Linksys e2000 ROM, but nothing changed. Today, I plugged my laptop into the router, and I still kept losing the connection. By now, it was using the default SSID and authentication settings.
Any ideas? Could my router be going bad, or is there something I'm missing. I did a factory reset before I reflashed the original ROM and after, but it's still not holding a connection for more about 30-45 seconds.

I haven't had much luck using DD-WRT as a signal repeater but it works well as a wireless bridge.
To setup DD-WRT as a wireless bridge you should have setting something like this:
    Basic setup:
    Wireless setup:
Wireless security must match main router:

  • Issues with Deskjet 5650 and Linksys wireless print server.

I have a iMac DP 1.8, a iMac G3 700 mhz running Tiger and a Toshiba laptop running XP and I am on a wireless network. I use a Linksys WRT54G router for the wireless and I am using a Linksys WPS54G wireless printserver to connect an HP Deskjet 5650 to the network. This was all working fine for the past 2 months until Monday evening when the Mac's lost connection to the printer. However the Toshiba can print to it just fine.
I cannot for the life of me figure out what happened. The iMac DP recently had a security update for intel installed this past Monday, but no updates have been installed on the G3 iMac. I have contacted Apple, HP and Linksys and they have been no help at all. Apple says it's a Linksys issue, Linksys says it's Apple issue and HP is just cluless. I would appreciate any assistance offered.
    Thanks

Paul, I am amazed you were ever able to print via the Linksys wireless server on your mac. I have the identical router and print server, and only the Windows PC's on my wireless network have been able to share the printer on that wireless server. I've been unable to find a driver for my iMac, and could never get the iMac to find the server. Finally gave up and bought an HP 2600n color laser and connected it directly to the iMac via USB. You're right about lack of help from Linksys. There is an Apple folder under "unsupported" on the print server installation CD, but there's nothing helpful in there.

  • Wireless Communication problem between HP Photosmart C309g and Linksys E2500 router

    Hello,
I used C309g  connected to DLink Dl-624 router (wireless connection) and everything was working correctly. Now I changed the router to Linksys E2500 (dual band router) and I've got strange problem I cannot fix.
The printer connects to router, obtaint IP address and network report does not indicates any problem. Also HP Print & Scan Doctor does not report any problem.
But when I try to print from my laptop, the pint start and is quickly broken, and I've got the message that printer is diconnected. The printer stops. When I leave it for a coupl of minutes, the printing starts and after few lines stops again with the same message on the laptop.
When I return to DLink router, everything works correctly.
I tried with 4 different laptops, with different operating systems, and i've gor the same issue. But the laptops communicates well, the network does not break..
I enforced router to use IP reserved number for the printer, used the same IP range and number for my network and printer on Linksys and DLink, does not help.  I've turn off firewall on the router - does not help. I've change the channel range for 2.4 GHz network to 20MHz only - does not help.
What would be the problem with it? Is there something related to dual-band? Any idea?

Well, I did not install the printer drivers from cd, I did it from the Hp webpage. Looking for the potential problems I reinstall the drivers and it did not helped. I also turn off the firewall router application and it also did not help.
I suspect I have the printer firmware up to date e.g my version is WHM1FN0931BR.
I've made some test with router settings:  switch from automatic WPS configuration to manual and tried network mode as wireless b only (default was mixed). This makes the communication between router and printer continuous (no breaks), I could normally scan documents directly to network drive, but could not print at all: the printing option on my laptop pops up, and looks like document was sent to nowhere.. printer did not start to print at all. But other network devices starts to experience connection breaks and performance issues. When I returned to mixed mode, the communication between network devices returns to normal operation, but not with the printer - where I experiences original problems.
My network is quite complex - 4 laptops and 2 TV sets communicates (wireless or LAN 100mbit cable ) via cental router with NAS server (with DLNA) and internet (DSL cable modem). Router also works as DHCP server, where any server type devises (e.g my printer) has reserved IP addresses (based on MAC number). No matter if I try to print from wireless or via LAN cable laptop, no matter what OS is on laptop. I have even tried to connect the printer via LAN (forcing DHCP to give the LAN pronter the same IP as was previously for wireless ), and stil the same: communication is broked and the print starts and suddenly stops.., then starts angain after few minutes - and stops (the same problem as wireless). So I do not understand what the hell is going on. Rest of my network works perfect .. except this printer.. Any other idea, what coul be the issue?

  • Xbox 360 and Linksys E3000

    Hello,
I'm having quite some trouble with the new E3000 and my Xbox 360 Slim Model. I thought that the E3000 had like 4 antennas which should broaden the SSID Broadcast/Wifi Signal. Now when I try to scan for wireless networks on my Xbox360 it can't find the signal the E3000 is broadcasting. The E3000 is on the bottom floor and the 360 is on the first floor. Before this I had a WRT54G Linksys router and that one had no problem getting signal to the Xbox360. The E3000 shouldn't have this problem right, because it has more antennas. Another weird thing is that my laptop, which almost sits next to my 360, has no trouble at all finding the SSID/WiFi broadcast...
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I just want to connect my E3000 to my Xbox 360.
PS: I have upgraded to the latest firmware.

Xbox 360 and Linksys E3000Bad news guys. Whatever you were told about the xbox 360 being compatible with wireless n at 5GHz was probably misleading. Please work through the following link: Work your way through this:- http://www.unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/faqs/114-troubleshooting-and-improving-wireless
Pay attention to the following, and I quote from the above link:
"...The Internal Wireless N Adapter for the Xbox 360 S 250GB
As well as all of the points above to consider you also need to be aware that some Wireless N routers can work at 2.4GHz and 5GHz or both. <<<<The new internal Wireless N adapter will only work at 2.4Ghz>>>> so ensure you have this enabled. It has also been found that in some cases it does not work with WEP and prefers WPA2-PSK (sometimes called Personal) with AES encryption (not TKIP) so in summary for the internal wireless adapter these configureations seem to work best-"
We could have saved everyone a lot of time if the XBOX 360 support would have just admitted this from the start. NO 5GHZ compatibility from XBOX Wireless N adapter.
If there is a way to upgrade the wireless N adapter in the XBOX please post for the rest of us.

  • Help setting up my Linksys E2000 to play a game

I just recently bought a Linksys E2000 router. Works great while searching the internet and such.. But I get huge lag spikes while playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.  I know its not my computer. When I take it to work and hook up to my jobs wireless connection I can play lag free. Also if I disconnect the router and hook up directly to my cable modem I can play lag free.  SO I am fairly certain that the problem lies in my router settings..  Can any of you help me out? I don't have the slightest idea how to set up a router. I know the game says my Nat needs to be completely open while playing the game and that I should forward certain ports. I have no clue how to do either of that.. I will copy and paste some instructions from the forums for the game for you all to see. Thanks in advance for  any ideas.

Required Ports for Modern Warfare 2
In addition to the required ports for Steam, Modern Warfare 2 requires the following ports for multiplayer:
UDP 1500 (outbound only, no forward needed)
UDP 3005 (outbound only, no forward needed)
UDP 3101 (outbound only, no forward needed)
UDP 28960 (inbound/outbound, must forward to act as a multi-player host, but no forward or inbound traffic needed to find and join games)
    Steam Client
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)
UDP 27015 to 27030 inclusive (Typically Matchmaking and HLTV)
TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)
    Dedicated or Listen Servers
    TCP 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

You don't really have to set up a static IP for your computer. All you got to do is reserve that IP in DHCP reservation on your router. Get the MAC address of your computer, put that in the DHCP reservation located on the setup page under Basic Settings. Choose the IP you want, within the scope of DHCP. Make sure to save it. So everytime you connect to the router, it will assign that IP to your computer.

  • How to get a open NAT type with a linksys E2000 on PS#

I called customer service and they were completely clueless, told me I had to pay for the Tech support to fix it. • Linksys E2000 router is incompatible with Linux?

Hi All, I have Cisco/Linksys E2000 router setup for home wireless network. I had been setup while ago and well working since then. Now the challenge: I need to know or to change the wireless guest network password. Linux support says it can be done ONLY using a local application, not the web interface. And only from Windows computer. In my situation, I have Linuxes, blackberry, players and other network equipment but no Microsoft software. I did not know that router doesn't work with Linux when I bought it. Had anybody resolved similar issue? Thanks Yu

Sorry the software is only supported on Windows or MAC.  You will need this to administer the Guest network.

I currently have a DELL Inspiron E1707 Laptop and I connect to the internet via my Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Router.  For the past 2 days I can connect to the internet but sites take forever to load or just don't load at all.  I went to Intel PRO/set Wireless Troubleshooter and the event viewer says:  CTA Plugin is not installed or supported.  I have googled this problem and still have not found a solution or where I can install the plugin.  I did find that this is somewhat common and has to do with the CISCO system/Linksys Router.  I hope one of your specialists has a solution to this problem.  Please get back to me regarding this issue.  Thank You!

  • Using Airport with my laptop and a wired desktop

Long story short, I deleted my Airport Express settings on my laptop and set up a new wireless network. After doing so, I can no longer do any sharing with my wired desktop computer. I'm assuming they are no longer on the same network. I've had it working properly ever since the Airport was invented, but I don't have a clue what I did at the time to make sharing between my laptop and my desktop possible. If I recall, it just kind of happened "magically." Can anyone explain how it's done or point me to instructions for doing so?
    Thank you!

Ok, great thanks! Since you are connecting the AX directly to the Linksys via Ethernet, we just need to reconfigure it as a bridge to allow the Linksys to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for both the wired and wirelessly devices.
I'm assuming that you have the earlier 802.11g version of the AX and will be using the older AirPort Admin Utility for administration.
To set up the AX as a bridge, either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to an available LAN port on the Linksys router, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility (located in the \Applications\Utilities folder), make these settings:
    Network tab
    o Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
    o Apply the new setting.

  • Cisco and Linksys products mixed environment

    Hello All,
Before I ask my question, I would like to know if it's OK to ask questions regarding both Cisco and Linksys products in this forum, or if this forum is just for Cisco OR Linksys? I just want to make sure before I ask my question.
The devices we are talking about are UC520, Catalyst Express 520 Switch, and 2 Linksys SRW224P Switches.
    Thank you!

Thanks for your response, I can now describe my problem....
We are using the UC520 as a PBX System, VPN Server, and what-have-you. On the expansion port, we connected the CE520 Switch, and we have many phones, and some other devices connected to it. Now, on ports 5 and 6 of the UC520, we connected the 2 Linksys Switches we've had for a couple of years now. Anyway, on these switches we have a few computers connected, but what I am having problems is 8 IP Cameras (PVC2300 also by Linksys). What we wanted to do was to create a new VLAN (2) on the UC520 to house these IP Cameras (all of which have static IP addresses in the subnet 192.168.0.1/24). We need the office manager's laptop to be able to see the cameras, but this laptop is in VLAN 1 (192.168.10.1/24). I opened up at  case with TAC and they helped me create the VLAN and all this, and now they said it should all be working OK, except it's not, and they said it has to do with the Linksys switches (which they can't provide support for). I am not a networking wizard, I consider myself a very basic IT guy when it comes to this, so I am not sure what I'm supposed to do on the switches to have them communicate correctly with the UC520 and VLAN 1 and 2. Right now, the computers connected to the Linksys Switches are actually in VLAN 1, and can access the IP Phones Web GUI, so I don't know why this new VLAN is not visible by the Data VLAN.
I hope I am clear, and if you have any questions I will be glad to answer them.
    Thanks for any help provided!!
Our topology is something like this:

I had a new motherboard installed in my laptop and cannot hookup to my wireless connection. There is an unsecured network named 'linksys' which I assume is my router. So I tried the 'wizard' and everything was going smoothly until I put in the default IP address (192.168.1.1) and then it wants a subnet mask which I don't know. What am I doing wrong?
