hp laptop is slow to start checked for virus none found
Hi,
Shut down the notebook. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu. Select the Bios option ( usually f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory. Post back with the details of any error messages.
If both the above tests pass, try the following.
From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'. In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties. Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'. In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start. Agree to schedule the check at the next system restart and then restart the notebook - this process can take several hours to complete before loading back into Windows.
Regards,
DP-K

Is there a program that will check for viruses or other reasons why it runs slow?
For several months my iMac has been running slow or freezing often. Safari often quits unexpectedly as does mail on occasion.
Programs that check for viruses are a major cause of slow Macs, so let's look at doing steps that don't handicap your computer:
1) How full is your hard drive? You need a minimum of 10G free for background processes such as Virtual Memory.
2) How much RAM is installed? RAM for the Mid-2010s is rather cheap at the moment, I upgraded my 27-inch Mid-2010 recently from the original 4GB to 12 GB for about US$55. Installation took only minutes.
3) If you have an external hard drive for backups, are you using something other than Time Machine to do the backups. Many third-party backup programs can cause a performance hit.
The next step is a little longer. It checks to see if some runaway background process is eating processor cycles and slowing you down:
1) Use your computer normally for typical tasks for several hours, then quit any applications you have launched. Do not restart.
2) In Applications > Utilities, find Activity Monitor. If you've not used it before, you have to change a setting. At the top of the AM window is a "Show" option. By default it is set to show "My Processes." Change it to "All Processes" like this:
4) Now highlight the "%CPU"column as shown so the most active processes "bubble"to the top (tiny arrow points down).
Now watch things move up and down for a minute of two. What you are looking for is any single process that is using more than about 10 percent of the processor cycles while the computer is idling. If you see one doing that, post its name in a reply here.
Awaiting your report,

I need help upgrading Itunes.I keep getting an error message that says
Mobile device failed to start check for sufficient privileges.I am running windows 8Same here - did the latest iTunes update and boy am I glad I did that; haven't been able to run iTunes since. Have re-installed after uninstalling as per one of the other help pages, re-booting, and now instead of getting the above error message I get one that says Apple Application support not found. Please uninstall then reinstall. Apple error 2.
Not thanks - Apple, you might want to do something about this I'm guessing since I'm no longer able to use iTunes thanks to your update? -
My MacBook Pro is suddenly slower...is there an easy way to check for viruses?
OpsMgr have methods which can get all host classes. Here my own function which can solve your issue:
function Get-SCOMClassProperty {
param(
[Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Configuration.ManagementPackClass]
[Parameter(Mandatory = $true)]
$ManagementClass,
[Switch]
[Parameter(Mandatory = $false)]
$KeyOnly
function Get-SCOMClassKeyProperty {
param(
$ManagementClass
$ManagementClass.PropertyCollection | ? {$_.Key}
If ($ManagementClass.Hosted) {
Get-SCOMClassKeyProperty -ManagementClass $ManagementClass.FindHostClass()
If ($ManagementClass.Base) {
Get-SCOMClassKeyProperty -ManagementClass (Get-SCOMClass $ManagementClass.Base.Id)
function Get-SCOMClassAllProperty {
param(
$ManagementClass
$ManagementClass.PropertyCollection
If ($ManagementClass.Base) {
Get-SCOMClassAllProperty -ManagementClass (Get-SCOMClass $ManagementClass.Base.Id)
$ManagementClassProperty = Get-SCOMClassKeyProperty -ManagementClass $ManagementClass
If (!$KeyOnly) {
$ManagementClassProperty += Get-SCOMClassAllProperty -ManagementClass $ManagementClass
$ManagementClassProperty | Select-Object -Unique
If you need to do it in SCOM 2007 R2 then you can try my scripts from this examples http://systemcenter4all.wordpress.com/2013/05/15/scom-monitoringclass-functions/. Last should work in 2007 R2 and in 2012. Example in thread will work only in 2012.
For example just run command:
New-SCOMManagementGroupConnection
$ManagementClassName = "Microsoft.SQLServer.Database"
$ManagementClass = Get-SCOMClass -Name $ManagementClassName
Get-SCOMClassProperty -ManagementClass $ManagementClass -KeyOnly | select Name

Just downloaded PDF Editor Pro, version 3.7.0, but it wasn't working. I checked for updates; none, but it showed "an error has occurred." What do I do?
You should check the developer's website.

I received a phishing email supposedly from my bank and clicked on url - didn't enter any data though.Bank says to get ipad checked for viruses,but I understood ipad has built in security.I've cleared cookies in safari via settings. Anything else to do?
I know this has been solved as you reported, but I think you need to check with your e-mail provider. Did you also get this same e-mail on your computer? If you use the same ID for e-mail on computer and ipad, it should have appeared on both. It's very common spam. Check your computer to see if on it, the e-mail is in spam, or, if you deleted it on your ipad, check your recently deleted e-mails.
You might want to consider changing your password, though people sending spam, don't need it. My e-mail provider had me change my password, not because I was getting spam, but unknown to me, I was sending it! (You'll still get some spam, though.) It's when you learn that you're unknowingly sending spam...that you must change your password.
Hope this helps.
(Ss I was sending this, I just got an e-mail notification from the Nigerian... it got to my e-mail instead of going to spam.) -
I try to open mozilla this last week and it will not open it for me. It sais it is open already but there is nothing on my computer. I had mcafee check for viruses and said there was none. I tryed uninstalling and reinstalling but it did not help.

Firefox updates hang on download when checking for viruses
When downloading the new version of Firefox it hangs up when checking for viruses. Once I am able to escape, it has always loaded the new version. This happens every time when updating Firefox. Everything else downloads fine. Using Norton. Running Windows vista home premium 64 bit.
I think you are correct. I also had trouble downloading a Windows update. They advised me to disable Norton Sec. long enough to finish the download and it worked fine then. Thank you, lige

My ITunes library failed to start after an upgrade, now I'm unable to open or re-install. Receive an error message stating that "apple mobile device failed to start, check to see that you have sufficient priveleges to run system". Any help with this? I've tried un-installing and downloading only to get the same message again.
Thank you to "turingtest2", solution for someone else worked for me as well!

Help! How to check for virus on IBook G4
Okay, I have been getting the multicolored swirly ciricle thing when I try to do anything online or though word on my Mac, it is significantly slower and has done this before. The tech support guy showed me how to scan for viruses and restore it after they were found. Can anyone help? Thanks.
Welcome to the iBook Discussions!
Since there have not been any viruses released in the wild that will infect a computer running Mac OS X, it's not a virus that is causing the trouble. If all you want to do is search for a virus, you can use ClamXav. But, we can be fairly certain this won't really clear-up your trouble. Is there any other troubleshooting you've tried? Have you used the Disk Utility (in your /Applications/Utilities/ folder) to "repair disk permissions"? Have you started up from your Mac OS X install disk and used the Disk Utility there to "repair disk"?

Acrobat 8 Pro checks for updates non stop
I have acrobat 8 pro on a 10.5.8 computer. I was able to update it to 8.2.1 by downloading and doing the updates manually. But now the updater is running constantly. It doesn't find any new updates, and as soon as I click on Quit, it starts all over again. When I click on Preferences and uncheck Check for Updates, that doesn't make any difference and it goes back to looping the adobe updater. I have several other computers that I did the same procedure on to get to 8.2.1 and they don't have this problem. Any ideas short of doing an uninstall/reinstall?
Thanks for chiming in, Bill, but it seems like you missed my comment about checking my other computer, same OS, same Acrobat 8, and it installed fine into 64-bits. It didn't ask for any files from other disks, and I've been using it on that system for almost two years in that environment. I am puzzled, though, as to why all files needed for installation of any program would not be included on the installation disk.

Check for virus and spyware on iPhone - iPhone reset all passwords and profiles
Is there a way to check to see if there are viruses and spyware installed on an iPhone 5S (7.1)? All of a sudden my iPhone prompted me to re-enter all my mail passwords, re-create a passcode, re-enter my iCloud info, Facebook password, Twitter password and deleted my MDM profiles. My phone has been freezing up lately. All apps, photos, messages are still there. My Touch ID was retained and works fine.
ThanksThere are no viruses or spyware for iPhone, therefore no way to check for something that doesn't exist.
The iPhone is not a Windows PC and susceptible to all the malware Windows users have to endure.
If you have chosen to hack your iPhone (jailbreak it) thereby removing the security Apple builds in, then there could be something, but that'd be your own fault, and you won't get help here with a modified iPhone.
The problem is more likely to be a mis-configuration of your MDM profile. Speak to whoever provides that.
