  • Laptop Keyboard problem, some keys get randomly ignored

    Hello,
This is a problem that occurs with all razer blade notebooks when running linux (does not occur in Windows 8); some keys get randomly ignored when you type at your normal speed, and it is very frustating especially when typing passwords or programming. At the moment we have to type very slowly in order to get all keystrokes caught. The keyboard has antighosting technology, maybe that info is useful.
This is the further we went in this post:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=161634
In that post, a forum partner proposed to modify "drivers/hid/usbhid/hid-core.c" and set "interval = 1;" right after the mouse pooling interval was set, around line 1134 of the file. When we use that modified kernel, the keyboard feels a little better but i still get ignored keys when typing at normal speed.

Does anyone know, based on their experience, what could be the cause of the keyboard malfunction?
Does this type of error occur for some other notebooks too?
It would be great if someone could point me in the right direction for where to look.

Did you try a different port.
Please let me know if this worked .

Hi. Well in this case the problem is with the Razer Blade Laptop's keyboard, therefore i cannot choose another port. You gave me an idea however, i will try to get any usb keyboard, plug it into the razer blade and make sure it works so that i can discard any major problem.

  • USB UltraNav keyboard problems

I have a model SK-8835 external USB Trackpoint UltraNav keyboard attached to an advanced minidock model 2504 and a T60p model 2007-CQ8 running Windows XP. I have the latest BIOS and drivers and Windows fixes.
I have the following symptom: when I use the middle button to scroll, sometimes the scroll function ends up being left on when I release the button. The external keyboard stops responding to mouse clicks. I have to click on the mouse buttons on the internal laptop keyboard to get out of scrolling mode. But then sometimes I can't click on buttons in the Windows task bar.
I have a second problem: I have disabled the touchpad on the internal keyboard via the "Ultranav" tab on the Mouse settings window. But I can't find a way to disable the touchpad on the external keyboard.
I tried to install the "Think/Travel USB Keyboard with UltraNav Hotkey driver v2.0.1.3" (q5kyb07us13.exe) from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-60649 but I get this error message and it refuses to install: "A newer version of the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver is installed. If you want to install the older version of the Driver, please uninstall the current Synaptics driver by selecting "Synaptics Pointing Device" from the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel, and then run setup again." But there is no such program listed in that control panel.

    Hi mlinehan,
it seems like you are having a problem much less similar to mine the first time i used this keyboard.
it works flawlessly now for me after doing this:
1.download and install the keyboard driver (lenovo.com)
2.download and install the hotkey driver (strange you are having a difficulty installing this, if you successfully install this it is possible that the problem is just gone imho)
3.download and install keyboard customiser (lenovo.com, if you do want to customise the short-cut functions)
well, since you are stuck at step 2 at the moment, i doubt that i am much of a help here anyway, hope it helps.

  • Inherent design flaw in HP laptop keyboards

Anyone struggling with random behaviour when typing quickly (windows shutting down, blocks of text being deleted etc) may be interested to know that there is a flaw in HP laptop keyboards. This has been seen on an HP550 laptop, it's not clear how many other models contain the same flaw.
They have implemented shortcuts in the keyboard firmware such that Right-Shift together with two other keys creates a completely new keycode. For example Right-Shift + N + U, generates a Ctrl+A keycode. Right-Shift + R + T generates a Plus(+) keycode. The problem is that the timing in their implementation is completely flawed, so anyone who types fast / touch types will find that these keycodes are generated during normal typing. You will find that while typing a block of text, the whole lot is suddenly deleted, or the window you are working with is closed down, and several other problems. Essentially you press one thing on the keyboard and the keyboard does something else completely.
This flawed design is only implemented on the Right-Shift key. Those of you who do not use the Right-Shift key while touch-typing will not get this issue.
If you do use Right-Shift, however, you will need to retrain yourself to touch-typing using the Left-Shift key or otherwise modify your touch-typing. HP do not acknowledge that this is a flaw, claiming that it is "a feature not a bug", despite it being a significant difficulty for those that touch type. Their UK customer service manager Oliver Dyson refuses to accept that it is an issue, so be aware before purchasing HP laptops that any of your staff who touch type may have difficulties, and HP will not resolve the situation for you.

  • Solaris on x86 Dell Laptop - keyboard driver!

    Hello,
As some of you may have a Dell Laptop I am asking if anyone has
had any success installing Solaris 8 for Intel. If you have please
    drop me a line.
So far I have worked my way past the hangs during the install's
configuration of /dev. I had to remove all references to cardbus in
the "Edit Device" settings of the device configuration assistant.
But then I hit the second problem where the first keypress at the
language selection window sends repeating characters until the keyboard
buffer is full. In other words it goes nuts because the Solaris driver
does not support the Dell Latitude CPi laptop keyboard. I know it is
not a supported configuration but I have little option since Sun are
no longer interested in supporting laptops in Solaris 8.
I already know there is a USB keyboard workaround but I dont
fancy myself hauling around a seperate keyboard just so I can use
    Solaris 8.
More specificallly I am looking for driver settings to make the
existing keyboard driver work or an alternative keyboard driver to solve the
issue. Sun can you help out here?
Any suggestions appreciated, especially some input from Sun.

    Hi knightweb,
Did you checked the BigAdmin center to know if your box is compatible / known to work ?
The installation program says your drive is RO ? Are you installing from a CD ? If yes, be sure that the disk choosed to the installation is not the CD drive (I don't know Dell 6350 anyway)
Did you tried to broke the last partition if there's one with fdisk ?

  • Laptop keyboard giving wrong characters

    Hi there,
I am having HP pavillion DV 2760 en since early 2008 and facing these days a very unique problem.
when I press ASDFJKL:" and ENTER keys they print another charater of lower string by pressing of single key.
    like charters prints this way
    A = ZA
    s = xs
    d = cd
    : = /; etc
I have gone through many forums and have checked there is no NUMLOCK issue at all and some of the peoples suggested cleanining and some replacing the keyboard. Can you please guide me how this problem can be solved?
My  Left Arrow key also went insane it works upside down. Is it a virus or is it something hardwre issue. yeah there's nothing spilled over any sort of liquid on my keyboard.
I am using VISTA home edition 32bit and yeah I had changed recently DSL router and after that this problem became very prominent but I remember keyboard used to malfunction earlier as well like printing " instead of @ and vice versa. I hope this much details would be enough and waiting for your your feedback as its making me mad while working..
    Thanks
    Zee

    Hi,
    Thank you for your feedback.
I will check this way also. But it seems to be solved for now but not for arrow keys actually. I was told to shut dowm system and take out battery for some time. And turning it on my keys were back in normal except arrow keys...
I tried to clean my keyboard and there I saw some dust and hair actually stuck inside I have cleaned them to maximum possible but now the issue is there's a plastic covering back on the alluminium or mettalic lower part of the keyboard. it is transparent and looks glued.  If i rip off this sheet to clean the dust and particles stuck between that sheet and metal part then  my question is what kind of glue to be used to put it back. You can see at step3 and step 4 here.

  • I updated to Yosemite, now my laptop keyboard does not work in MS Word for Mac. Help!

I updated to Yosemite, now my laptop keyboard does not work in MS Word for Mac. Help! Any suggestions for fixing this?

Did you ever get a solution to your problem? Because I am having the same problem. I was actually in the middle of using Word when the keyboard stopped working. But it works in other apps, including in Excel.
Thing is that my laptop just got back from Apple for repairs and they replaced everything but the display - including the hard drive.
So not only do I have plenty of hard drive space, but it should be virus and error free otherwise.
I have only installed a few programs and redownloaded some of my files from places like Dropbox, but otherwise is essentially a new system.
Oh - and it came with Yosemite, so I did not upgrade to Yosemite and still Word doesn't work.
I've always had trouble getting Word to play nice with my Mac but that was also with the old, full hard drive.
This is a fresh install. And since I lost all my files, I only had like 1 old file I have downloaded from email and accessed and was in the process of
creating a new file when it crashed. I got no error, the keyboard just stopped working (to type). I also cannot even get Word > Preferences to even open,
    so it is completely unresponsive.
I did a Google search and under the Microsoft communities two suggestions to that person were that there may be multiple copies installed -
I have only the one - and that one is in the wrong place - again, I only have the one and it installed to the Hard drive (visible in Launchpad / Apps).
Another suggestion was that there was some problem with the updates. I ran updates and they installed fine. That helper suggested that the user
may have had different updates that worked for the other Office apps (Excel, PPT etc.) but not Word and that was at least part, if not all of his problem,
but all my Office apps show the same update version 12.3.6, so that cannot be the issue with me.
I've not yet tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but as I got no errors on the original install or updates, I'm not sure if that would fix it.
I've found that Mac just doesn't play nice with some programs at all.
And even though I have a factory installed version of Yosemite on a new, fresh hard drive, even when I booted up, my iPhoto app (which is empty) crashed. I am not sure if my iPhone or iPad was charging at the time, but I don't think so. iPhoto that I still have not even used has crashed several more times since, most notably when plugging in my iPhone / iPad to charge, namely when I declined to upload photos (by default) to DropBox. That may not be related at all, but thus far seems the only other problem I have encountered until this Word problem.
I'm on a MacBook Pro, Sept. 2009, running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 factory installed from Apple repairs running Office: 2008 for Mac (Home and Student edition).
Please advise if you found a resolution and what it was.
    Thanks

  • Re: rollover keyboard problem with a Presario C769US

This Presario C769US  OS Win7 Home 32 bit works just fine except for 1 game that I play a lot away from home.  Like if I have a few hours to kill before a meeting starts.  This older games are simple to play using just the keyboard.  So I don't have to lug around cd/dvd's,  joysticks and manuals.
1 game Bio Menace requires certain keyboard cmd's to be entered during game play in order to turn the cheat menu on.  1st  C+A+T   then C+O+D  >  a box opens up and type in 91827 then hit enter.  (Here is were the Rollover cmd error starts)  I next press and hold J+I+M wait a 1/2 second then press space bar.   Then let up all 4 keys at the same time.  If timming is correct The cheat menu pops up.  I checked the keyboard with a keyboard testing prog.  When I press J+I+M everything works fine.  But holding J+I+M down and pressing space bar,  The space bar just doesn't get seen as been pushed.  This is the 2nd laptop that I got.  The 1st one an Acer one laptop had the same kind of keyboard problem.  Now my primary home computer is a Gateway laptop model MD2614U  OS win7 32 bit and that big old Toshiba M60 laptop (before the screen croaked)  is the one I carryed in my backpack.  Now the Gateway laptop and the Toshiba laptop both could handle the J+I+M then space bar cmd with no problems.    Is there any way to fix this rollover problem in the Presario laptop?

  • Laptop keyboard stopped working suddenly

my laptop keyboard has stopped workin suddenly... i was entaered pasword and as the desktop opened the keyboard working stopped, my notebook is Pavillion-g6 2136tx and i've installed windows 8 os. please help me as soon as possible......

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to see if this will launch the Start-up Menu - if it does, select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

  • Thinkpad G40 keyboard problems after updating from W98 to W7

    Hi community users.
I'm new here with a, for me, typical problem.
I’m having a problem with my Laptop keyboard IBM ThinkPad G40, type: 23884SG, Windows 7.
Since I updated from Windows 98 to Windows 7 the keyboard definition is wrong. I’m not able to find the right configuration of it on base of the standard list of country and language definitions in W7.
Who can help me with this.
I already installed some drivers from the Lenova site but nothing seems to help.
So the problem is that I can’t find the right service from the country and language menu to the keyboard in W7.
    All suggestions are very welcome.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dirk

    Hi Vince,
Thanks for your response to my problem.
Problem isn't the choice of the specific language. The problem after the update is that I'm not able to choose the right combination of language and the type of keyboard selection in Windows 7. The selection list is long: from South-Africa to Sweden.
Although most of the characters on the keys on the lower part of the keyboard correspond with the ones on the screen but especially the keys on the upper part don't.
So I'm searching to a correct selection of the combination language and specific type of keyboard. Or there must be some driver witch can be download.
    Looking forward to the feedback.
    Kind regards,
    Dirk

  • Replacing a standard laptop keyboard with a backlit keyboard ??

Is it possible to obtain a backlit laptop keyboard replacement for a standard laptop keyboard? My computer is not that old but I use it late at night and the backlit keyboard would come in handy. Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase an upgrade for this?

    Hi,
Most likely you need few more things than just a keyboard with lights. First thing is you need somewhere to plug cables for lights that means you need a new motherboard and depending on your video card you may need new card, new cooling system ....
    Hope this makes sense.

  • HP Envy laptop keyboard "bubbling"

    Hi
I'm a newbie to these forums so hope I am doing this right.
I have a brand new HP Envy laptop, with the specs as below. I am having a problem with the physical keyboard bouncing up and down when I type. Its almost like there is an air bubble under half the keyboard. I can still use it but its annoying and I expect better quality for the almost $1200 price tag of this laptop. It was only bouncing a bit when I got it, but it seems to have gotten worse the longer I use it.
SO... I did reach out to HP support and they gave me instructions on how to take it to the HP service centre to get the keyboard replaced.
My concern is - I have over $2000 of design and business software on this machine now. Does anyone know if when they replace the keyboard they will have to reformat the harddrive and delete all my software? I really hope not! Also any idea how long this procedure will take? I am hoping they can do it while I wait so I dont have to give up my computer as I use it day and night.
Please advise if you know about this. thanks!

    Hi,
I have a G56-130sa laptop with a keyboard problem ... the 'L' key only works intermittently ... it sometimes takes a few hits to get it to work.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated very much.
