HP Laser 1020 woes on XP

c:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\hewlett_packardhp_la26dd\
Hi, needs some suggestions here.
For my home network, I have two PCs (2000, XP).   I had my HP Laser 1020 for some years installed on the  2000 box, shared for the XP  machine to access. No problems for all these years.
Then a few days ago I upgrade the 2000 box to Window 2003 server and downloaded the 1020 drivers for it from HP.COM. I installed it and it was all ok locally. Then I created a share \\pc2003\laser. On the XP box, I deleted the old shared printer  and added it back in for the new share.   The shared printed was installed, print tested etc.
However, and I didn't attribute what I have been seeing to the shared printer on the XP box, but I had began to see Explorer slowing down, the desktop icons would refresh more than usual or maybe that it was slow enough to notice it.   I had also installed new stuff on the XP, like a video capture driver and SilverLight. and especially the XPS Viewer which added the Microsoft XPS Document Writer printer.   Everything was working as far as printing.
But then last night I started Office Visio 2003 to draw a document and I wanted it in Land Scape Mode. Under visio, you click FILE | PAGE SETUP and toggle the landscape radio button.   Well, the page setup dialog would hang and you have to eventually kill Visio with task manager.   It was only when I went  to the Page Setup that this occurred.
So what did I do before finding out it was the HP laser 1020 drivers?
Figuring it was the latest stuff I installed:
I removed SilverLight,  same problem.
I removed the  CamStudio video capture software, same problem.
Under Visio help, it has a Detect and repair.  Did that, same problem.
Googled  the net for "Visio 2003 Page Setup Hangup",  nothing really relevant.
I created a new account on the XP and logged in to get a fresh desktop.  IT WORKED!
So what was the difference?  I haven't yet realized it was the HP Laser 1020 drivers,. so I ran VISIO.EXE under a debug utility called DEPENDS.EXE which shows everything (DLL files) that it loads.   It starts visio, so I did the FILE | PAGE SETUP and noticed that visio was stuck trying to load the HP DLL file:
 SDhp1020.DLL
Now, I am writing this and I see there are several of two of  them under c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers,
c:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\hewlett_packardhp_la26dd\
c:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\
so I can't tell you which one it was but it was enough for me to try delete the shared Laser printer on XP and that fixed that problem with VISIO and also my GUI speed is back. Explorer speed is back,  desktop icons are not refreshing.
Suggestion?  Can I use an older driver that use to work fine on this XP box?
PS:  The additional drivers on the 2003 installed location does have [X] for XP selection.  That was automatic I believe.
Thanks

There is a SAP note of 40+ pages that lists printers and the suggested driver to use in SAP - search OSS with PRINTER DRIVER key word and you will probably find it.
A lot of printers work using POST2 or PCL4 or PCL5 setup in SPAD.
Another option is to print to the printer as a frontend printer so you are using the windows printer driver for it - Try a printer of type 'G' access method (Frontend Print using Controls) - this is the newest supported method.  Does not help if you need to use printer in background.

  • Failure to calibrate

Frequently when I try to burn a cd using iTunes 6 I get a failure after the intialization with a message that that the burner failed to calibrate. There is no pattern. Sometimes it happens on the first try after launching itunes. Today the first burn worked. The second took 5 tries. This is a flaw with iTunes 6. Does anyone know a fix for this?

The lens-cleaning discs with fibers that actually make contact with the lens are bad news. They can easily scratch your lens and make your problems worse. I recommend the compressed-air method. It's tricky not to blow more dust onto the lens than what you started with.
I had been running the same Matshita UJ-815 that came with my 1GHz PB for a year or so without problems and then around the time I moved to NY (early-2004), I found that I couldn't get media that would burn, neither CDs nor DVDs. Before I started having real problems, the comp was still picky about media and would not burn Sony, TDK or Maxell media but after I moved, not a single brand would work. It would show the "failed to calibrate the laser power level" message every time. I temporarily solved my problem when I bought some media when I was back home visiting the Midwest and the discs happened to burn fine in Toast and in iTunes. Then about halfway through the spindle, only one of five discs would burn. I tried the firmware flashes without success.
I was going to take it to Tekserve to see what they could do but then someone told me that I should just buy a new drive and install it myself. So that's what I did. I just installed a new Superdrive (Matshita UJ-85JS/UJ-845-B) the other day and it works like a dream. It was good to get in there and clean the computer too! I am happy that I'm finally able to burn discs again, having been essentially crippled for a very long time. I know this doesn't answer your question but I just wanted to share my laser calibration woes as well. Hope you get this sorted out.

  • Laser Jet 1020 will no longer print Internet/email. Error message is res://ieframe/dll/preview.js

Laser Jet 1020 used to print just fine from internet explorer. Suddenly it quit printing and I get an error message res://ieframe.dll/preview.js  The bottom of the error message asks if I want to cancel script. Prints fine from other windows applications. From the Internet, the correct printer is selected? Any suggestions?!

The issue is caused when Windows creates the printer profile in the control panel that it doesn't correctly create it with the drivers.
We're not going to completely uninstall all the HP software, instead we're going to remove the corrupt Windows printer profile and reinstall it.  Total time for this on an average computer is about 5-10 minutes to completely repair (including reboot).
    1) Navigate to Start Menu > Devices and Printers or Start Menu > Control Panel > Printers
    2) Select each printer profile for the printer with an issue, then select remove device/printer.
    3) Reboot
    4) Navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > HP > insert model # here > Add Printer (or Setup Wizard)
    5) Follow the setup prompts to reinstall the printer profile and it recreates the Windows printer.
    6) Run the HP Update Tool from Start Menu > All Programs > HP if your printer installs it, rebooting afterwards if necessary.
    7) Test by printing google.com (uses very little ink when the test page comes out).
Let me know if you have any questions or issues.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Can't print to hp laser jet 1020 printer connected to airport express

Hello All - I recently bought an airport extreme so I am doing some re-configuring of my home network but I am having issues getting the desired out come.
I have the airport extreme connected to the modem. From the extreme in another room, I have an airport express connected to the airport extreme wirelessly (I set that up through the airport utility without any problems.)  Now I want to connect my usb hp laser jet 1020 printer the airport express to print from.  I have a windows 7 machine.  I can see the printer connected to the airport express through the airport utility.  I have tried to use the bonjour print service to set up the print connection.  Bonjour sees the printer connected as well, I run through all the prompts and click finish, but when I go to print something, it goes to print que and nothing happens. (side note, the printer works just fine when connected directly to the computer).
So I guess my question is, it appears the computer sees that my printer is connected to the airport express. But some point along the way, when I go to print, the message gets lost or goes to the wrong place. I am on the right track?  Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

Does "plugged into it" mean that the printer is connected using USB or Ethernet?
If USB, have you run Bonjour for Windows to find and configure the printer?  (Pages 16-17 in the Setup Guide)

  • HP Laser Jet 1020 Printing is Moody - Drivers can't delete

I have a W7 Laptop & an HP LaserJet 1020 which has been working like a charm. I left for a month with my laptop.
Upon my return, my printer has become 'selective':
From MS Word - It will print a blank page
From a PDF - Nothing will print, yet no error message
    A picture - will print
(I have yet to check MS Pub.)
I have tried to uninstall the drivers but it tells me that there was an unexpected error.
I tried using the CD to 'repair' the drivers, but the problem persists, and I couldnt delete the drivers after 'reinstalling them'.
The one that saves the solution earns a halo

Sorry that you are having a problem with your printer from MS Word and PDF. It seems that a communication error may have occurred.
Perform a hard reset on the printer. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. Leave it out for 30 seconds and plug it back in.
    Also reboot you computer.
Then try to print. If it doesn't print, then try to UNINSTALL the software and drivers again.

  • HP Laser Jet 1020 printing again the last job

    Hello there!
I have a printer HPLaser Jet 1020 which, after reboot, of the computer when switching ON the printer, it immediately begins printing the last job that was sent to the printer before the computer had been switched OFF.
I have checked the printing queue before turning OFF the computer and it is empty.
This problem does not happen every reboot, but happens very often and I haven't been able to find the pattern, nor the cause. I've tried it in two different computers and the same problem occurrs. Has anybody else had the same problem?
By the way, I have Windows XP in both computers and the drivers have been downloaded from the HP web-site.
    Thanks!

  • Hp Laser Jet 1020 network printing fail over win7 and Vista

Printer prints fine when is connected to computer trough USB but when shared over the network between Vista or 7 and another PC tries to print.  Jobs stays in the queue labelled 'Printing' but nothing happens.
Printing over the network only works when 'Print Spooler' is manually stopped and then restarted on the PC the printer is connected to for each job!
Printer used to work fine under XP with network sharing.
On local and networked PC, the printer use port "USB001"
Searching trough many forums i found this problem sill remains unsolved for 1020 and some other printers.
I have to admit that i had test all available versions of a driver.

Have you tried to setup the Local Port using, \\Win7Computername\Printername on the other computer?

  • How to check in hp laser jet 1020 Plus , how many printout in one toner. cartridge

I change again-by-again in HP Laser 1020Plus toner but not recevied any information like how many printout this  cartridge . please give me any solution.

Any of the laserjet models that have a front panel (touchscreen) and the option to print a Supplies Status page can provide this information. The Supplies Status page shows how many pages each of the current toner bins have printed since installation.
Make sure to check that the printer has a Supplies Status page in the Reports submenu of the Setup menu. Hope this helps.
example: the Laserjet Pro 200 M276nw has this feature.

  • HP 1020 plus laser printer support on mac os/x snow leopard.

I have a HP 1020 plus printer and manufacturer refuses to provide drives for mac os/x. There is a free version of a driver by third party but it does not work well and there are some issues with cleanup of old files which are getting in the way of installing it on my mac.

    hi ramesh,
if you're using SAPGUI for Windows than you can rely on SAPWIN for device type or you can upload your own device type. HP has provide specific driver for SAP on this website (http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/cache/37011-0-0-225-121.html)

  • HP 1020 vs. Epson EPL-6200L

    Hey all!
I am looking to buy a simple black/white laser printer and currently I think it will be either HP's LaserJet 1020 or Epson's EPL-6200L.
I am tempted towards Epson for built-in drivers in Tiger as well as much faster printing (20 pages per minute). On the other hand 1020 has USB 2.0 vs. 1.1 on 6200L, and it a little smaller.
What would you suggest both printing-wise and Tiger-compatibility-wise?
    Thanks a lot,
    Artemiy.

Solved! It was probably a permission problem; used to kubuntu I had added my account to sudoers and blocked root so during printer configuration i used my account/password as credentials; even if they are accepted there is a problem with sudo configuration that make it unusable with cups; so root account is necessary. Using root make other settings useless: inserting !usblp in rc.conf, modify device node permission. Adding own account to lp group is enough.
To use HP scanner add your account to scanner group and uncomment hpaio line in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf
