HP LASER JET 2840 SCANNER PROBLEM

Received Error 5 Turn off then on, I did it a lot of times already but still not working. Is there something wrong with the scanner bulb? Is it replaceable or just needs some  cleaning. Outgoing fax, copying and scanning are not working. Can I disassemble the scanner unit? I need help please, Thank you.

Scanner 5 errors are caused by the scanner bulb not being able to find home.  Usually this an indicator that the scanner motor may be about to fail.  Usually a power cycle may resolve it temporarily.
-Verify the CLJ2840 has the most updated firmware from hp.com.   There has been some firmware fixes in firmware to alleviate some scanner 5 errors.
-When the scanner 5 error is not recoverable from a power cycle- the printer will need to be serviced with most likely a scanner sub assembly and possibly a formatter as well.

    Hello Rehantoheed,
Thanks for the post.  With this one, we might need a little more information such as error message symptoms, what OS, copy fine?  If you are running OS 10.7 LION, I've included a link below that may assist with this scanning issue.  Good Luck!

  • LASER JET 2840

When you spend $1,000 for a desk top all in one printer you expect to use it for more than a year - especially when you purchased the printer after your previous HP all in one has died - you expect to be able to get HP drums & toner cartridges for your printer for the life of your printer. The specs for the printer give you an estimate that the printer will last for at least five years but here we are one year into the purchase and HP has chosen not to have the drums required for the printer manufactured. I have done a national search and no one has these drums the best I could get was a remanufactured drum that I had to pay more for than the original drum supplied through HP because "these are hard to get" and this I was able to get only because of staying on the phone with HP complaining about not being able to get a drum. I have since found out that HP hasn't had these drums in stock since FEBRUARY.
Way to go HP - you are in controll of  YOUR products and YOU chose not to have the drums - NO IT IS NOT TIME TO UPGRADE IT IS TIME TO BAIL
I was forced to purchase a remanufactured product to keep my printer in use while I shop for a new printer - I will upgrade but please be sure I WILL NEVER - I REPEAT NEVER EVER PURCHASE ANOTHER HP PRODUCT.

I have  HP  Laser 2840 ( all in one  printer).
Just  changed to a PC running Windows 7.
I have spent the last 2 days  trying to install the drivers.
Tried the CD fro  HP, downloaded drivers from HP website..No driver works.
I tried to install drivers one by one..Failed!
I have never  had  such a difficulty with any software or  equipment like I am having with HP.
I can not  print or scan.
Does any one know  of a clever way of installing drivers?
I can NOT believe that HP  has not the people to get a driver on their website entitled: Windows & driver for 2840.
All other  manufacturers have this facility and no problems.
My next  printer will NOT be bought from HP.

  • HP Color Laser Jet 2840 with /mac OSX 10.6.4

Moving everything onto a new iMac but OSX will not recognize the scanner capability of the HP. It recognizes the printing capabilities and printing is fine but it won't see the scanner. Image Capture doesn't recognize the scanner either. HP simply indicates that the drivers for the 2840 are already installed in OSX 10.6.4
    Any suggestions?

Then have HP walk you through getting the scanner to work properly.

  • Problems printing with  HP laser jet 5M and Snow Leopard

    Hello,
Since In installed Snow Leopard on my mac I can no longer print with my HP laser jet 5M.
I know this is because Appletalk is no longer supported, and that I should use the laser jet as IP printer. However, I couldn't figure out how to assign an IP address to the printer. It seems I can't do this by the config menus of the printer. I read somwhere it is possible to do this by terminal (telnet) but I am not familiar with unix.
Can anybody help me to solve this problem?
    many thanks

  • Fix for hp laser jet CM1312nfi MFP printer and OS X 10.10.2

My HP CM1312nfi MFP laser jet printer, with the latest driver 1.5.0, will only print with my iMac OS X 10.10.2, I cannot scan at all, even with image capture the scanner does not work or show up. My wife's Mac Book is running 10.9.5 and printer driver 1.4.1, she can scan with hp scan but only with the flat bed scan not the tray feeder. I can't find a download for the older driver to try that.
Very frustrating to have a perfectly good HP MFP printer that seems to no longer be supported by the manufacturer!!! The printer is working fine with the PCs in the house.
Does anyone have a fix for this?

    Hi ShlomiL,
    Thank you for your answer.
I'm aware of the download you pointed out, but my question was different.
I asked why the new version provided to Apple from HP (and from Apple to the customers) won't work as intended anymore. Until few days ago, all I had to do was plugging in the USB cable and my Mac would install all the required software, without all the additional packages I would not like to have.
I wanted to contact Apple but the software is made by HP, so I thought HP should know about compatibility issues. I know this is a community board but I wouldn't know how to get in touch with the Mac software makers.
If the issue won't be risolved I might just try and install the package from this website, but that would not be a fix for a problem recently introduced and that I thought I'd point out.
    Thanks again,
    Mario

  • Help, Upgraded to Yosemite and now my HP Laser jet 1320 printer will not work!

Two days ago I upgraded to Yosemite on my Imac. Now my HP 1320 Laser jet will not print at all!!! I need a printer for my eBay business ASAP and this is not good. The printer is a driver version 19.8 Is it compatible with the new program? I am so frustrated.

    Hello k1watt,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I see that you're unable to print to your HP LaserJet 1320 series after upgrading to Yosemite on your Mac.  I defintely understand how frustrating this is, especially since printing is vital to your business.  The printer driver version 19.8 is the most current version available.  To troubleshoot the issue however where you're unable to print, please follow the steps in the article below.
USB printers and Bonjour-enabled network printers
Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel.Note:If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
UseSoftware Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
Deletethe affected printer, thenaddthe printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
Resetthe printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, resetthe printing system again. Download and installyour printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.

  • Laser Jet 1020 will no longer print Internet/email. Error message is res://ieframe/dll/preview.js

Laser Jet 1020 used to print just fine from internet explorer. Suddenly it quit printing and I get an error message res://ieframe.dll/preview.js  The bottom of the error message asks if I want to cancel script. Prints fine from other windows applications. From the Internet, the correct printer is selected? Any suggestions?!
    Laura

The issue is caused when Windows creates the printer profile in the control panel that it doesn't correctly create it with the drivers.
We're not going to completely uninstall all the HP software, instead we're going to remove the corrupt Windows printer profile and reinstall it.  Total time for this on an average computer is about 5-10 minutes to completely repair (including reboot).
    1) Navigate to Start Menu > Devices and Printers or Start Menu > Control Panel > Printers
    2) Select each printer profile for the printer with an issue, then select remove device/printer.
    3) Reboot
    4) Navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > HP > insert model # here > Add Printer (or Setup Wizard)
    5) Follow the setup prompts to reinstall the printer profile and it recreates the Windows printer.
    6) Run the HP Update Tool from Start Menu > All Programs > HP if your printer installs it, rebooting afterwards if necessary.
    7) Test by printing google.com (uses very little ink when the test page comes out).
Let me know if you have any questions or issues.
    Thanks,
    Dan

my laser jet 100 color MFP M175nw is not working after windows 8.1 upgrade, driver on your website fails to setup at 83 % with an error message

Welcome to the HP Forums  MillaMagia,
I see by your post that the USB isn't being recognized.
I can help you with this issue.
Are you using the same USB cable? (known good USB cable)
You want to use the normal USB slot 2.0 cable and not the latest USB 3.0.
USB 3.0 are supposed to be backwards compatible.
Try another USB port on the Laptop, some of the USB ports are more powered then others.
I have provided a document to see if the printer is partially recognized in the device manager, which is causing the printer not to be recognized again. (the uninstall from the CD should have removed the entry and the printer from the registry)
Leave the printer turned on and the USB cable connected directly to the computer and the printer's power cord directly into a wall outlet.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
Here is a document for Identifying problems in Windows Device Manager.
Check to see if there are any hardware driver conflicts, you might see a ! mark or a red x beside a device with a conflict or unknown device, look under universal serial bus controllers, look for USB printing support or mass storage device, delete the entry by right clicking and select uninstall, OK.
Let me know how it was listed. (screen shots welcome)
If this is a Laptop then check the power management settings.
Access the device manager. Windows 8-How do I access the Device Manager.
Select universal serial bus controllers from the list, for each USB root hub, right click and left click on properties, for power management remove the check mark for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". It allows the computer to limit or turn off power for this device.
Disconnect the USB, run the full uninstall and reinstall the printer software again.
If you need further assistance, let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Lost printing to HP Laser Jet following installation of upgrade 10.8.2

I noticed from the BB that this issue is already out there, but I am not sure what course of action to take.   I have a IMac with 10.8.2 installed as part of an upgrade from 10.7.x.  My HP Color Laser Jet CM1312nfi MFP worked fine.   Once the upgrade nothing.   From the HP support web site, I read the following:
HP LaserJet and Color LaserJet Printers,  MFPs, and All-in-Ones - Products not supported or with limited support in OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)
which leads me to believe that this printer is "done" and cannot be made to work with this OS.   I am looking for a work around for a perfectly good printer.  HP, while not asked has not offered a solution and my take from Apple is that the new OS is supposed to take care of all the issues, both old and new.   I am willing to uninstall any an all software if it will solve the problem.   I am not interested in returning to another older OS.   I did install the new patch provided by Apple, it did not work and I may need to redo if not done correctrly.   It did not solve the problem.   Has anyone found a workable solution to this problem?   I would be appreciative to any suggestions that will help.   Thanks

Thanks for this response.  I was able to get the printer working following a bunch of "re-tuning" of setting and the like.   To be clear, I did install this patch from Apple.   While Apple or HP is not clear, I found that it was better to clean house of all old printer (HP listings), remove sharing from the network settings, installing the patch at least twice and then selecting the printer a second time around.   Lo and behold, I selected " Print a Test Page" and after what I thought was a long wait, got the completed test page.  As indicated on the HP web page, I did lose the ability to scan via the HP Director software.  Not sure that will be a problem as I can still scan to the external memory card and save the image(s).   Progess and change has its cost and I will have to accept this change as part of that evolution.   The new Mac OS has removed many of the folders etc that I was familiar with from earlier times.   The good news is that I can print and that is what really matters.   Thanks again for your suggestion.
