HP LaserJet 1012 Error -9672

I can't add an HP LaserJet 1012 printer to my printer list on my new 10.4 MacBook. I followed the HP online directions to Reset Printing System, and the printer shows up on the Printer Browser (via USB), but I'm getting the following: Error:-9672. HP said it was an Apple issue. Any suggestions?

goatmale229,
Uninstall the HP software that came with your printer using the HP uninstaller. From the hard drive, click Applications, then click HP and select HP Uninstaller. The uninstaller will open. Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall the product.
From the hard drive, click Applications, then click Utilities and select the Printer Setup utility.
Click Add.
If your printer shows up in the printer list, select Printer. If the printer does not show up in the list, choose either Bonjour or Rendezvous as the connection type and then select the printer from the list. Under the Print Using list, select HP. In the list of available drivers, select the HP Laserjet 1200 driver OR the HP Laserjet 1200– Gimp-Print driver OR Generic for the printer driver.
Click Add
Now try to print

Printer appears in printer setup utility but always gives Error: -9672 and then the driver hardly works - jobs are not sent, stopped, stuck in cue, etc.
Hours on the phone with HP after many manual uninstalls and reinstalls yielded the answer that it is an "Apple problem". An hour on the phone with Apple yielded the answer it is an "HP problem".

  • Dreaded error -9672

have set up home network using Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) with eMac and MacBook (Intel), both running OSX 10.4.11 and 2 printers: HP Laserjet 1022 and Canon Pixma iP4500, both connected via the USB slot on the AE. Able to print from both printers via MacBook, and Airport Utility shows both printers are connected via AEBS. Problem printing from eMac: although both printers are found in the Printer List (when using Printer Browser) whenever try to add them get the dreaded -9672 error. What needs to be done to resolve this? (am aware there is a long-standing problem resulting in these -9672 errors)

See the following for possible solution:
HP DeskJet: 5150, 5650, 5850 -- Driver not installed or Error -9672 in Mac OS 10.3 when trying to add the printer under USB to the Printer Setup Utility.
Macintosh OS 10.3 was shipped with the DeskJet v2.3.1 driver. The installation CD's for the 5000 series DeskJet printers listed above unfortunately have an older driver release then the one HP has worked with Apple to include in OS 10.3.
These steps will delete the necessary files to be able to install the 2.3.1 or greater software package to you operating system.
    Resolution:
Deleting the Current driver (drivers) and preferences:
    1. Save all work and close all applications.
    • Open the Macintosh Hard Drive.
    • Open the Library folder on the Macintosh Hard Drive
    • Open the Printers folder in the Library folder
    • Open the HP folder in the Library folder.
    • In the HP folder there should be a DeskJet folder. Drag this folder to the trashcan.
Note: There is no need to empty the trash after this step.
    2. Close all windows that are open at this time and reopen the Macintosh Hard Drive.
    • Open the Users folder on the Macintosh Hard Drive.
    • Open your user file in the Users folder. The one with the little house beside it.
    • In the Little House there should be another Library folder. Open this folder.
    • Open the Preferences folder that is located in this Library folder.
    • In the Preferences folder locate all the files that start with com.apple.print. and drag them into the trash.
WARNING: This will delete all your printing preferences for all printers.
    3. Close down all the windows that you have open.
    Download the current driver:
    4. Connect to the internet and go to www.hp.com.
    • Click on the Support and Drivers link in the bottom right corner of the page.
    • Click the Download drivers and software button and enter in your product. Ex DeskJet 5150. Then hit return on the keyboard
    • For the DeskJet 5100 and 5600 series you will need to select your product from the next page.
    • Select the Mac OS X option on the next page
    • Then you will need to select the driver under software. Select the version 2.3.1 or greater driver from below the software menu.
    • Click the Download now button at the bottom of the page.
    Install the downloaded Driver.
    5. Once the driver is completely downloaded to your computer, double click on the file.
    • It will mount the disk image and open a window with the installer in it. Double click on the installer in the new window
    • Enter an Administrator name and password for the installer and click continue.
    • Click continue on the opening page for the HP Inkjet Installer
    • Read the license agreement and click Accept to continue.
    • Click Continue to the Read Me file.
    • Select Easy Install from the drop down menu in the top left corner and click the install button.
    • When the installer is finished click Quit.
Adding the Printer to the Printer Setup Utility
    6. Open the Printer Setup Utility if it was not automatically opened by the Inkjet installer
    • Open the Macintosh Hard Drive. Open the Applications Folder. Open the Utilities folder. Double click on the Printer Setup Utility
    • Delete any existing 5000 series DeskJet printers that may have been added automatically by the Operating System. Click on the name of the printer and click the Delete button in between the Add button and the Utility button at the top of the current window.
    • Add the printer to the Printer Setup Utility by clicking the Add button at the top of the current window.
    • Select USB from the drop down box at the top of window. NOTE: For the 5850 you will want to select rendezvous or hp IP printing if it is connected through one of it's network connections.
    • Wait until the system prompts you to reload the browser, due to knew printer drivers being detected. Click OK to reload the browser.
    • Click the 5000 Series DeskJet from the box below. Then click the Add button at the bottom of the page.

  • CUPS + LaserJet 1012 problem

    Hi, all!
I have almost the same problem as in this post, but with HP LaserJet 1012. The following info is present on Information tab of Control Center->Printers:
    State: Processing... (accepting jobs)
    URI: ipp://localhost.localdomain:631/printers/hp_LaserJet_1012
    Device: hp:/usb/hp_LaserJet_1012?serial=00CNFD165436
    Model: HP LaserJet 1012 Foomatic/hpijs
I tried two drivers: 1012 hpijs and LaserJet 1012 pxl1010 - none of them helped.
When i send test page to printer, nothing happens. In job status window there are the following fields: job-printer-state-message="open device failed; will retry in 30 seconds...", job-printer-state-reasons="none". Cups ver. 1.3.5-1, hplip ver. 2.7.10-1.
What can be done to allow printing with HP Laserjet 1012?

I'm probably the most inexperienced person here, but from this website:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_print … erJet_1012
it appears that the 1012 isn't fully supported or it just doesn't work like it should.  I quote from their website:
Unfortunately, the new LaserJet 1010/1012 series seems not to be absolutely compatible with older HP printers or it has a firmware bug. Sometimes it happens that the printer stops working and reports the error "Unsupported Personality: PCL". It only continues working when one kills the job and power-cycles the printer.
Anyways, I'm not sure it will work until someone does some tinkering with the drivers.
Probably not the most helpful post, but I just wanted to increase my post count.
    Best of luck!

  • Laserjet 1012 on network with Vista 64 bit laptop

I am currently trying to connect to a Laserjet 1012 that is set up on our home network with a laptop running 64 bit Vista.  I have tried to just rght click and drag the printer from the networked computer it is directly connected to and then try the install option.  This brings up a dialog box stating that it cannot find the correct inf file or drivers to install the printer.  I have tried downloading and extracting the Vista 64 bit drivers from the HP support site but I can not find the inf files needed to complete the install.  Had been running an XP laptop with the printer installed the same way and am currently using another laptop with 32 bit version of Vista that was installed the same way with no problems.  I have tried several different things to get this printer installed but still can't get it up and running.
    Any help will be appreciated.

  • HP Printers - "Error: -9672"

I have a number of users on my network who are having difficulty printing to HP printers. I assume it started after a software update, but I couldn't be sure. All I know is, day by day, fewer and fewer people can print to the color printer.
Nearly everyone is at 10.4.7, but some people on 10.4.7 can still print to the printer and some can't. What happens is, one day, a user goes to print to the color printer, and the blue (Print) button can't be clicked. You can only click (Cancel). I get called in, delete the printer, attempt to re-add the printer and get "Error: -9672".
Here are some of the things I have done to attempt to fix this issue.
I have run disk utility and fixed permissions
I have reinstalled the printer drivers (HP doesn't have anything updated for the color laser, their web site says drivers are included in 10.4, so I have reinstalled from the HP CD included with the printer)
I have installed a newer version of CUPS (on only one machine, as an experiment - it didn't work, so I didn't do it on any other machines)
I have booted from an OS 10.4 CD and verified/fixed the disk AND permissions.
I have cursed and kicked things.
On one machine, I have done a complete system reinstall, run software update to 10.4.7 and still get the same error.
    The offending printers and drivers:
    HP Deskjet 3940 using
    HP Deskjet 3.3 driver
    HP Color LaserJet 3550n using
    HP Color Laserjet 1.4 driver
we have another HP printer in the office that nobody has difficulties printing to. it's an HP 1320n, but it uses its own driver "HP 1320 series" and doesn't seem to have one of those "All in one" drivers that some HP printers use.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

HP Deskjet 3940, HP Color LaserJet 3550n   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Thanks for the effort, but I found that thread using the search function a while back and followed the instructions on the HP site.
No dice, but I only tried it on one of the offending machines.
I'm currently working with someone at apple on the problem, starting with a fresh install of 10.4.5 on one fo the machines and installing items one at a time (software updates, then security updates, then applications, then application updates, etc) in an effort to reproduce the issue. printing is currently working to both printers with a fresh install of 10.4.5. (that's as far as I've gotten in the process for now)
I will repost to the thread if I find the cause of the problem.

  • Laerjet 1022 + Express = error -9672 +frustration

    Hi,
Whenever I try to add my Laserjet 1022 w/ Bonjour I get error -9672. I've tried everything I can think of--installed new drivers, deleted Printer Setup utility preferences, repaired permissions. Nothing works. Any ideas?
It worked flawlessly the last time it was set up in May, so I've no idea why it has decided to stop working.
    Powerbook G4 1.67 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I finally figured this one out, so I thought I'd post it in case it happens to someone else.
The Laserjet 1022 doesn't like WEP encryption. I reset my Express to the default settings, and was able to add the printer via Bonjour, and I could print just fine. Then, I added my settings, including 40-bit WEP encryption. Printing still worked! Also works on my roommate's PC. (A side note, I could never get 128-bit WEP to work on the PC––I could add the network, but could never print or surf the net.)
So, to get the 1022 working with encryption:
    1. Add the 1022 FIRST, making sure you can print.
    2. Set your encryption.
    3. Print securely.

  • HP LaserJet 1012 won't print in Leopard

I have a HP LaserJet 1012 (probably 3 or so years old) connected to my iMac (2.16GHz 20") via USB ... it worked like a champ under 10.4 and still works like a champ under Windows XP (via BootCamp) ... but it seems as soon as I moved to Leopard, the printer keeps hanging ... in the printer's status box it hangs on "Opening printer connection" ... then after some time it seems to timeout and the print job registers "stopped" in the que.  I don't know what I do different, but every once in a while it prints (I try to delete que items, I even delete the printer and re-add it ... the computer sees it and recognizes it as a 1012 when I add the printer ... so I can't imagine it is a connection problem)
    Thanks for any assist!
    V/R,  Jay

I contacted HP tech support and they emailed me a fix. My printer has been working fine for the last 24 hours and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Here is what they sent me:
At this point is having issue of incompatibility regarding the driver of some printers and the Software of Leopard. But the driver will be on the HP Web side as soon as our technicians can put it there .
In the meantime you can try this:
    Uninstall
Open your hard drive and look for Library
    Look for Printers Folder
    Choose HP folder
At last drag the whole LaserJet folder to the trash
    Repair
Open your hard drive and choose applications
    Choose Utilities
Then select Disk Utility (double click on it)
In the following window select the name of you hard drive
At the bottom is an option "Repair Disk Permissions"(one click on it)
    Install
Insert your Leopard installation DVD, click on the Optional Installs icon
    Then Optional Installs.mpkg
    Then Continue
    Agree to the License
Then from the Custom Install window click on the arrow next to the Printer Drivers
Then put a checkmark on the Hewlett-Packard Printer Drivers and then click on continue (note: I didn't see this option - instead it just installed drivers for a bunch of printer companies)
Finish the installation and then restart your Mac.

  • Will my hp Laserjet 1012 printer work with my new Mac Mini (OS 10.7, Lion)?

I finally have to upgrade from my Mac Mini OS 10.4.11 to a Mac Mini OX 10.7, and wonder if I have to buy all new peripherals, too.
    Here's what I have:
HP Laserjet 1012 black and white printer
    Proview 17-inch display, PL913s
Epson Perfection 4490 flatbed scanner. (I scan a lot of manuscript pages and must have a scanner with an adjustable top)
    Wired keyboard with numeric keypad
    Wired mouse
Yes, I know they're old, but they work fine!
    Thank you!

    Hello Fiona6,
I use iMac (Snow Lep) and 2011 Mini (Lion) and from both systems my results are:
Wired keyboard & mouse - work ok, I don't like or use wireless types.
My LaserJet 1010 - works ok (Your 1012 should also work, same series of printer).
If your display works ok now, cannot see why it would not work. My mini works with various vga and DVI displays I have at various times attached to it.
Don't know about your scanner though, with my all in one printer/scanner I have had to use OS X Image Capture program to scan. Might be worth a look at Epson's site to check on any software updates.
    Roy.
Edit: Regarding display if you are getting a new mini you will need a new display adapter, minidisplayport to vga or dvi, assuming your display is one of these. This can be plugged into the Thunderbolt port on the new Macs.

  • HP Laserjet 1012 and AP Express--PUZZLED

I cannot get my HP Laserjet 1012 to print wirelessly from my Airport Express. I had an Airport Extreme before and I it worked flawlessly.
In the Printer Setup Utility, the 1012 printer is recognized quickly—no problems with that. But it can't find a driver. Under "Print Using" I select "HP" and get the long list of HP printer drivers. There is no Laserjet 1012. None of the others seem to work. What do I do?
I downloaded the latest driver off the HP website for 1012 but it said it could not install it because I already had it installed! I have no idea what is going on. Please help!!

What you might try is to reset the MacOS printing system - see Mac OS X 10.4: About the Reset Printing System feature

  • Hp Laserjet 1012 printing via Bonjour on 10.4.6

I recently upgraded my OS from 10.3.9 to 10.4.6 and I couldn't find and install drivers for my hp LaserJet 1012 when connected through Airport Express. Printer is visible as a Bonjour printer. USB printing works just fine, so I assume the drivers are somehow installed. I was able to use my printer through AP Express when my PB was running 10.3.9.
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    Powerbook G4 12" Rev B   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi, Kappy. Thanks for the response.
    Actually, it's neither article.
The one I'm looking for appears at the bottom of a help page (Mac Help) when I do a search on "compatible printers". It's listed in the "Open this for me" sdection at the bottom of the help page and is entitled "Printers compatible with Mac OS X".
When I click on that link, I end up at a web page that says "Looking for something on the Mac OS X site? The page you tried was not found."
This whole exercise is turning into an absolute nightmare!!! The day before yesterday, following the suggestions in one of the Apple documents, I re-installed the HP drivers from the supplemental installations on the Tiger DVD.
I then deleted the printer in the System Preferences and re-created it.
When I tried to print, in OS X, it printed without a hitch! I then tried an application in the Classic environment and this also printed without a problem. I figured that my problem was solved and had been solved by the re-installation of the HP drivers. I left the printer on, as usual, shutdown the Mac, as usual, and went to bed.
Yesterday morning, I figured I would confirm that my problem was indeed solved; just before leaving for work, I turned the Mac on, and tried to print. Guess what? It wouldn't print at all. Nothing happens other than what I've been getting since installing 10.5.2: "Waiting for device", etc...
Next step: I'll partition one of my drives, re-install 10.4 from the original DVD and won't apply any upgrades. I won't migrate any users either but will just create a dummy user. This should allow me to print, since this setup had been running without any problems for a few years. Then I can always re=boot from that system whenever I want to print... But what a hassle!!!

  • Printing to Airport Express connected Laserjet 1012 very slow after update to 10.6.8

After updating a pair of computers that we have here to 10.6.8, printing to our Airport Express connected HP LaserJet 1012 has become incredibly slow. I timed it and it is taking 2:30 to print a blank page, whereas printing the same blank page under 10.6.7 (on an external drive connected to the same MacBook Pro) happens within 2 seconds. One thing that I have noticed is that when I bring up the HP Printer Queue the computer says 'connecting to printer' for 20 - 30 seconds, then sits at 50% complete on the printing for some time - anyone else running into similar problems?

Because I am not experiencing the same issue I have not needed to apply the CNET article. But just to be clear, did you follow the instructions to the letter?
If you did and it's still not working then you can begin narrowing down where the problem is by following some basic trouble shooting steps. First thing I'd try is creating a new user account (call it TEST ACCOUNT) and leave it alone, then try printing from that account. If it works then you know it's a software issue in your normal user account. If it still doesn't work then what I'd do is:
    1. Download 10.6.8 Combo Update at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
    2. Disconnect all peripherals (including the printer)
    3. Backup using both Time Machine and/or a Bootable Clone using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner
    4. Restart from the Bootable Clone or the Snow Leopard install discs.
         a) choose language
         b) Click Utililities Menu
         c) Disk Utility
         d) highlight the internal HD and the First Aid tab
         e) Repair Disk Permissions, Verify Disk & Repair Disk.
         f) exit Disk Utility and restart in Safe Mode
    5. Install the Combo Update
    6. Restart normally and test the system
    7. Begin connecting peripherals one by one and testing each.

  • HP LaserJet 1012 - Wireless from Mac to PC

    Hi all,
    Here's my situation:
I have a desktop PC running Vista that my HP Laserjet 1012 is connected to - works fine. Wired connection to Linksys WRT54G.
    I have a MBP 2.33GHZ C2D connected wirelessly to the WRT54G.
I would like to be able to print wirelessly from my MBP to my Laserjet 1012 while still keeping it connected to my PC. I did a few searches and got a bit lost I'm afraid. I tried sharing the printer (and I believe I successfully "logged into it" on the printer menu on my Mac) but I was unable to locate the printer.
Any ideas about the easiest way to do this? Thanks!
